You serious about that? Leif Eriksson or "Leif den Lykkelige" (Leif the Lucky) was son of Erik the Red who discovered Greenland and he (Leif) went on to colonise N. America, everybody who has read any history should know that :embarassed:
Erik was Norwegian relocated to Iceland (he got outlawed), Leif was Icelander relocated to Greenland with his father as the latter got outlawed on Iceland as well.

The Norse Leif Eriksson was the son of Erik the Red, and was supposedly one of the first Europeans to set foot in North America, circa 1000 A.D. Attempting to sail to Greenland from Iceland(I think), a storm blew his ship(s) off course, and he eventually reached land somewhere in Northern Canada. After exploring for some time, it is believed he reached modern-day eastern Canada(the exact site is debatable) and named it Vinland after its wild grapes. I can't remember who exactly established the small settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland and Labrador, nor do I remember the exact details. Anyways, they eventually dispersed due to civil strife and vicious skirmishes with the native First Nations, the "Skraelings", of the area.
This is from my memory. I believe this is now generally accepted as being factual. Here's the wikki link:
L'Anse aux Meadows
The one blown off course was Bjarni Herjólfsson, Leif bought his ship and went to explore.

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
Care?
What has Leif to do with Gaza, did he discover Gaza as well?

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
Nope, far too hot for him, but GA asked and I replied and corrected MM's mistake. My profession is history, so I feel a duty to reply to the questions I can answer adequately.

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
Just a question: Gaza campaign is still in EBII team release program?
I just want to know if it will still be released some day or if it was cancelled!

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
We're currently in testing and also finishing the last details like stratmap character models. We even have an aproximate release date, but as in every non-profit team, any planning is always dependant on multiple things. But we're moving on.

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
Thank you very much!!!
This is really awesome!!! :2thumbsup:
Can't wait to play EBII!!!

Thanks, mane, though I do not entirely remember posting that insanity. For my part, history is only a minor degree secondary to my major.

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
Is it OK if I make this into a new topic, just so that people can see it, as I dont think many people look at this thread anymore?

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
What aboute this prologue for the gaza campagin...
And it happened, after that Alexander son of Philip, the Macedonian, who came out of the land of Chettiim, had smitten Darius king of the Persians and Medes, that he reigned in his stead, the first over Greece,
And made many wars, and won many strong holds, and slew the kings of the earth,
And went through to the ends of the earth, and took spoils of many nations, insomuch that the earth was quiet before him; whereupon he was exalted and his heart was lifted up.
And he gathered a mighty strong host and ruled over countries, and nations, and kings, who became tributaries unto him.
And after these things he fell sick, and perceived that he should die.
Wherefore he called his servants, such as were honourable, and had been brought up with him from his youth, and parted his kingdom among them, while he was yet alive.
So Alexander reigned twelve years, and then died.
And his servants bare rule every one in his place.
And after his death they all put crowns upon themselves; so did their sons after them many years: and evils were multiplied in the earth.

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
There should be a law against bumping this as the sudden realization that this isn't the thread for the Gaza Campaign Release may be bad for those faint of heart..

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign

-
Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
There's gonna be a Gaza campaign... Noone said otherwise
-
Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
There's going to be, we just don't want to have too long a gap between it and the next release.
-
Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
So what do you think aboute the prologue?
It is taken from the first book of maccabeans.(not shure if they are spelled like that...)

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
I think that prologue is wholly inappropriate. Why? Because the perspective is all wrong. The Gaza campaign is an introduction to EB II by playing out the campaign of Ptolemy I against Demetrios/Antigonos which culminated in the battle of Gaza, the perspective of some Jewish authors 2 centuries down the line is completely irrelevant to it. Plus it doesn't actually introduce the setting or campaign at all.

Mkay what about this:
Quote:
originally posted by Diodorus Siculus Book XIX chpt 80 ff
Now Antigonus' son Demetrius was staying on in Coelê Syria lying in wait for the Egyptian armies....
Ptolemy, since his undertakings had turned out as he wished, now sailed away to Egypt; but after a little while, spurred on by Seleucus because of his hostility toward Antigonus, he decided to make a campaign into Coelê Syria and take the field against the army of Demetrius.
He therefore gathered together his forces from all sides and marched from Alexandria to Pelusium with eighteen thousand foot and four thousand horse. Of his army some were Macedonians and some were mercenaries, but a great number were Egyptians, of whom some carried the missiles and the other baggage but some were armed and serviceable for battle.
Marching through the desert from Pelusium, he camped near the enemy at Old Gaza in Syria. Demetrius, who had likewise summoned his soldiers to Old Gaza from their winter quarters on all sides, awaited the approach of his opponents.
j/k Diodorus Siculus didn't really post this here, IIRC he was banned on the org like ages ago.

This thread should be locked. My heart started beating like crazy, I jumped up from my chair, made a little dance, sat down only to notice it was the 2008 thread...

I changed the thread title to "Preview: The Gaza Campaign". Is that better?

Not at all! That made me think this was a new thread. Dammit, Ludens, you almost killed me!

Re: Announcement: The Gaza Campaign
You could all just look at the date on the thread.
Of course, even the knowledge that any official announcement would be in a new thread of its own does not stop me compulsively checking what any new post on here says. But in that we are all the same, so what can you do about it?
