I will keep my gun to protect me instead of waiting 20 minutes for the police.
Society can't protect from any thing you listed (except for hunger)

Fear, if there is crime there is always a bit of fear.. How many people walk around the worst part of town at night unless they have too or are criminals(yes I know there are exceptions)

Well, define capitalist. I think there´s a fundamental right of property. It is just when those who work hard own more than those that work less hard. If something can be ruled by the market, it should be ruled by the market. The purpose of governmental intervention is not to make everyone equal but to give everyone a chance. Society should help the poor but differences are not necessarily bad.
I mean capitalism like it is in america.
Well, my knowledge of "how it is in America" is not profound enough to make that judgement.
I don´t like Microsoft though.

What if you are married with a bunch of children? Your wife leaves you. You have to pay for the children and the wife. You are lucky to see the children at the weekend. You have to sell the house. The money is not enough to pay the bank. You think about your misery day and night. After some time your boss tells you that the company has to reduce their headcount. You are fired. Socialsim does not help to keep the familiy together but it helps if you have material problems.
Same if you have an accident and cannot walk any more.
P.S.: Why are you obsessed from the idea that you have to protect you with a gun? Is the situation that bad in the US? This idea is so strange to me!
All you need is a spandex suit, "the Police" albums and candles, the intruder/rapist/pervert will run a mile :)
Serioulsy, guns can be a detterent and a (well the opposite of detterant) cos Canada, i think its canada, has the most guns but the least gun crime or something like that....whilst in America, they have gun crime all over the place but not everybody owns a gun
I think Japan has the least gun crime.

I am not obsessed with it...but I like knowing if i need to I can. I like having the guns for wild dogs and things like that more then people....If you never need to use the gun on people thats good...If you do need to use, think about what would happen if you did not have it.
I ask again Would you rather be armed or wait 20 minutes for the police?
