some good tips are, as a beginner:

In your first games, join a squad and let your squad leader give you orders to show you what the gist of the game is.

Play either Special Forces or Assault. They are beginner friendly kits which are not complicated. I recommend you avoid the temptation of being a sniper all the time.

Avoid mods like the plague! The game is good enough without them to mess up online play. Only play Ranked Servers online.

You don't need the microphone with the headset; it's not essential. I have one, but I never need to use it. There are few players who actually use them because of the following:

The messages can easily be ignored.
The messages drown out other sound and is annoying if you are trying to listen to the battle.
Most people ignore them.
Most people won't understand what you are saying (I find that there are a lot of people from other countries who don't speak coherent English). You can avoid this by going for servers you know will generally only have Americans, English or Australians playing.
Trying to speak to your team members in the middle of the game is tedious and distracting.

So it's mostly typing like ol' bf1942?


But what is wrong with mods and I how do they mess up online play? I had some of my best game times playing desert combat on bf42.

Whenever the squad leader is talking, I always listen. They usually give you good advice on where to go (defending your squad leader protects your mobile spawn point), and is a LOT easier than typing a sentence in the heat of battle, even in shorthand.

I haven't played that mod,so I don't know how good it is.

If you going to play MP alot (I hope you will,it's good), then here a few tips.

Bunny Hop. it may be "illgeail" in alot of servers, but alot of people,including myself, do it anyhow. Bunny Hoping is when you jump up and down serveal times to avoid getting kill, and you kill the other person instead.quite annoying.

Second, If your Hummve take a Anti-Tank Shot, BAIL OUT!! Don't Risk trying to move any further, unless you see the guy and you actually know you can run him over before he can reload and blow you to hell. Trust me, I been on Both Ends. I had people try to run me over,only to get shot by me and killed or by someone else when they run me over.


If you wanna take out a Tank, hit it once, usally in the front or on the turrentk, then duck or run off to a safe spot,reload, and repaet the process 2-4 times,mabye 5 times max in bad cases, till it blows or untill he comes out, then if he comes out for you, then of course, you need to pull out your gun/pistol/knife, unless you wanna use a Anti-Tank gun, Like I do :) :)


Also, It's ok if you Fly a Chopter to their "main" base where their UAV/scans are. I do it all the time on the Masthuur City and Sharqi Peninsula Maps. I hop in my Apaches or My Most Favortie Choper, The Black Hawks (BHC :) :) ), then I fly to their base,cap or uncap, or close to it, and bail out and do my work.

Thanks for the tips, hopefully I will get it installed today (the new cpu doesn't like our monitor, so it is going to the shop to have something set lower) I really don't get the computer stuff that well...but that's how I understand it. Supposedly it will only take a few minutes to do.

Well, you can communicate quickly by holding down "Q" and then you'll understand how.

Mods are unofficial, unnecessary and not very popular. If you really want to use them, go ahead. Good luck.

yea, I say just go with the expasion packs..

So, I've finally got his game myself plus the expansion pack. Quite a hectic game, this. Being used to AA this is an entirely different thing, admittedly you still shoot people, but everything is on a larger scale.

Anyway, I do have a question for all those Battlefield vets patrolling the arena: how exactly do I unlock weapons ?

Also, how do you all normally proceed once the game starts, do you join squads or zerg rush the enemy from the get go ? What works for you, and which kits do you use to make it a success ?

I usually kill a fair amount of enemies, but always die at least twice for every enemy I kill - there always seems to be just one more bloke behind the one I just shot. How do you guys stay alive and rake in those double digit points ?

You get 1 Unlock Weapon per Promotion. I unlocked the G3 when I got Promoted to Staff Sergeant on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday (don';t remember)..


Depends. If you on Masthuur City map, and you sprwan on the uncaps bases, head towards the BlackHawk/Cobras Helocopters first. THen join a Squard or make a sqaurd to rake up time for your ribbons..

don't waste all your ammo clip/clips on one or two enemies.. And RELOAD OFTEN. Some of my bad mistakes was, instead of killing easy/hard tagets quick or in a minute, I would shoot my last 4 rounds, then pull out my pistol, but die 2 seconds later. If you in a middle of a bad gunfight, and got time to Reload, DO IT, if not, and got someone near you, pull out your pistol and hope for the best and reload in a safe spot ( unless you dead)

Also,Don't teamkill m8. you will lose 6 points if you get punish for a TK, 3 points if you got forgiven and turst me


I TK 6 people the toher day by Accident, and lost 24 Points

so be careful and have fun

I think I might get this game.

very good game. I say buy the Dexlue Edition. it comes with Both BF2 and SP or SF or whatever the expasion is. having at least 1 expasion makes it very good also IMO..

newbie needs more help.

I am having more fun playing in squads than alone; the only problem is once I leave one for some reason (leader walks up to me and shoots me in head while there are no enemies around for no reason, or just isn't that good) both have happened.

Any way skip ahead 5 min after that and it won't allow me to join another squad or rejoin my old one.(keep in mind the squads I try to join are not locked)

Also how do I unlock the other guns? I've gained three ranks and still can't get one:help: (so technically i should be able to get one right)

Be sure you are spawned into the game before attmpting to join a squad or start one.
While you are roaming the world of spirits this feature is locked to you.

I think playing with you Americans would be a problem as it would be too far for you to join the Euro servers and it would be too far for us to join the US servers. The ping rate would be monstrous which would lead to serious lagy gameplay.

That may be true, it probably is, but we should give it a try nonetheless.

I propose playing an all infantry map (my favorite maps at the moment), preferably on a (64 player ?) jalalabad server. :2thumbsup:

actually i was wrong about my promotions,

1 was real (I got a private first class)

The second didnt count (does quitting the game still give the promotion) or it may have been one of the 3 or 4 time my computer restarted on me for no reason.

the third one was just a badge.

but even so I should still be able to get a gun right? what do i need to do.

Also I am happy to say the new cpu can play with all the video settings on high without a problem:beam:

If i get one more game where I do pretty good I should have the promotion.

I like Jalalbad, Dragon Valley, Shraqi Peninsula,Mshtuur City, Dailin Plant and Wake Island. I not fond of infraty only maps,only play them so I can get my medic/Spec ops/Assault stats up.

You do that, hope to see you on at one time or the other.

That said, my pc has the strange tendency to automatically connect with some server right after I load my account. Why is this ? I'd like to simply chose one myself, and not get automatically connected to some other server - as I always immediately brake the connection.

yes, it sometimes happen to me. Just click the ESC button to break it off of course, and come join me in the NSDQ server then :D :D

min 186, max 198 -> average of 189.

that is a bit steep for my liking...

I try to play on servers that are <100 for the smoothest gameplay.

NSDQ server isn't that laggy for me, but proably because I got 6MB Cable of course.

I get you the IP's of the other 2 servers I play on.1 is under 98 I think, other is over 128.

Btw I realize why almost all the people who still pay 42 and are good at it hate BF2....their strategy won't work, BF2 requires you to do more then run in a circle around the other guy pop off a few rounds.:2thumbsup:


If you dont believe me, log into a 42 game and ask about bf2....no one will like it.

Yeah, in BF2 you have to bunny hop up to them to win a gunfight!

I find BF2 as lame as vanilla BF1942 to be honest. Too arcadey, with shoddy ballistics.

I still play the Forgotten Hope mod for BF1942, and eagerly await the new version of the mod using the BF2 engine.

The fella who said mods are pointless is wide of the mark, though they do tend to be a bit more niche.

I used to play the Desert Combat Mod for BF1942, hence I like BF2.

bf2 should have died a long time ago :P

Maybe the game could have been decent without some support - now i'll only play if it's with people i know, as you can't rely on the community to provide a fun game
