I was on the right path; after giving up on the UK, I moved to Denmark, then Sweden, and had just drilled down to Norway, when Louis of the Eagle Eye found it. Good work, Sir.
The 'it's is not a river but a ...' comment gave it away. Rather a pretty town from the looks of it. Here's the 3D version of Sigurd's picture:

Rome?
If you look at the picture there is a muddy river, almost gray. This gets me thinking of Asian rivers. There is also lots of dark red tiled houses with the occational blue roof. This is also pointing to the east.
A lot of small housing clustered together with no streets also points to a culture different from Europe.
I could suggest Ha Noi in Vietnam as I know there are lots of buildings there with dark red tiled roofs... but the Red River don't have a turn like that...
I guess I should look further...
Yes.. I found it.
But I let someone else try this one. I was on the right track though... just a tad too much to the west.

This is taking too long...Quote:

Maybe try for an easy one, Sigurd, to get some interest going in this game. If I'll leave answering it to somebody else. Assuming I guess it of course.
Alright...
this one should stand out:

Blimey this one's tough and
I instantly recognised it and I know exactly where that picture is taken! Such a pity I promised to leave it to somebody else...
A hint? I've no idea where that might be.
Athens maybe
If Redleg didn't get it, I guess a clue is in order.
What you see on top of something that once was a volcano, is a war memorial.
Oh, and it is called [something that is usually found at parties].
Edinburgh
Don't see the party accessory though.
Not Edinburough...Quote:

The party accessory is something you drink.
lol I guess it's another city with a war memorial on top a volcano. Looking at the picture it's obviously not a castle, what was I thinking.
edit: it's some kind of tower now that I look at the picture
It is not coincidental that I mentioned volcano.Quote:

OK... continuing with the cities near water theme:
Archeologists report evidence of humans living here for more than 3,000 years. Now a teeming metropolis of over 10 million people, this city has played host to an Olympics:

Seoul is correct. Your turn, Xdeathfire.Quote:

Choose another city and don't leave its name as the filename. [Taiyuanks8
simplifies the task a bit too much.] I would say it would have been considerably
harder without that. Mind you, you could just take my guess that it's Taiyuan
and we could do an oh-so-crafty edit before anyone notices. ~;)
I noticed. :inquisitive:Quote:
