Quote:
Just a slight change in the rules regarding the imprison option; while this prevents the player from using any abilities for the night phase, it also prevents them being targeted by those of others too.
People in jail cannot be targeted by abilities, that could explain why there was no kill last night: Arpeg was targeted to be killed, but they couldn't do it because he was in jail.
Seems plausible. As much as Arpeg being the killer.
So, Chaotix's ability, and the jail option are not only a roleblock, but also a protection.
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
Well either way we seem to benefit from sending arpeg to jail.
Unvote; imprison: Arpeg
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
A little over one hour remains for votes and bids.
The current bids stand at sixteen gold for the Clasp, ten gold for the Ring. :3
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
Vote: God Emperor
Susipicious minds.
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
The phase ended at 9pm GMT, thus I will have to discount both Beskar's vote and the late bid I received a few hours ago.
However, following a serious spate of broken rules, QuickTopic mistakes and more, I'm in half a mind of whether or not to outright end the game now because I feel that everything's in tatters currently... for me, things couldn't be going any worse in terms of the behind-the-scenes stuff.
I believed that I had made the rules crystal clear and that any PM featuring QT links stressed that you must be careful what name you're posting under, and still rules are broken and mistakes are made... if this was any standard game, I wouldn't mind, but in this game every single role has an impact and has it's enemies/allies, and these occurances are tearing apart the foundations I've worked hard at for the last two months.
This is my first small-sized game and only my second overall, and I'm really at a loss with how to proceed with this now; I feel as though the game is ruined. :/
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
Sorry to hear Secura :shame:, hope it's salvageable.
If the situation warrants, consider mass modkilling offending parties, even if it greatly lessens the game's length it would still be preferable to abandoning it, and it could be worked into the storyline.
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
Indeed have a darkspwan incursion into Orzammer and have them all killed.
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
You've been doing an excellent job, Secura. It would be an absolute shame to see this game have the plug pulled on it. Personally, I would advise trucking on. If disciplinary action must be taken against certain players, do it, but please, don't let the rest bear the punishment as well by ending the game. Even if you feel like the game has been "sabotaged" by the actions of certain players, we'll all still enjoy the experience more than we would if the game was ended, and, I think, you'll get more out of hosting the game by seeing it through to the end.
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
Thanks guys; I've really got to speak with the offending party and gauge the extent of the damage caused really, but I'm hoping that it's nothing major; it just means that one or two players now have the identity of two major roles... but if those roles die prematurely, it's of no fault but their own, no reason to punish everyone else for it as you've said. :3
I have work in a few hours and won't get home until 3:30PM GMT or so; I'll be working on the end of phase writeup as soon as I get back. It seems that, in the furore surrounding ArpeggiateTHIS' roleblock, you have all forgotten that there was a warhammer to vote on too... for shame! :P

Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
If they do screw up so horribly bad that the game is unplayable... maybe we could restart or something without them?
And anyway, I'm gonna be gone Fri-Mon, so don't freak out over my gone-ness.

Duly noted, just send in your night orders... it's likely you'll miss half the day phase and that's all, that way.
Anyways, to everyone else, the writeup will be delayed until the afternoon tomorrow, but it is currently the night phase and I will take any orders via PM. :3

End of Day Three
https://i884.photobucket.com/albums/...oyalPalace.jpg
Inside the Throne Room
By the end of the third day, it had become clear to Duncan that the king's guests seemed to be making some sort of headway into finding Lady Dordan's killer; where before there had been baseless accusations, now there were solid arguments based upon evidence, circumstantial or otherwise. The Grey Warden cleared his throat, drawing the attention of the crowd.
"I must applaud you on your progress today", he smiled wryly,
"it seems that, in your quest to find the the Lady's killer, you have set aside any claims to Reenk Roink's discarded warhammer... most commendable."
The tanned Warden handed the heavy-set weapon to his nearby second, who struggled to carry it out of the room; Duncan chuckled lightly to himself, before turning back to the guests and gesturing for a spokesperson to come forth.
Chaotix knelt before the throne, and triumphantly stated
"with my efforts, we have collectively decided to throw ArpeggiateTHIS into the prison cells for the night!"
Duncan nodded silently while the crowd murmered in agreement with Chaotix; before the Grey Warden could even contemplate issuing an order to detain ArpeggiateTHIS, the palace guards had already dragged the new inmate away without protestation.
"Before we depart for the night, I believe that there is something you should see", Duncan continued, passing a handful of scrolls to the various guests,
"it appears to be a request for business, perhaps one that you may consider should you have the time and coin"
You unfurl the scroll to read a neat, purposeful script:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
As you prepare to sleep, you find a second scroll placed neatly upon your bedside table, and you unfurl it to read a somewhat haggard text, though you assume that this is to maintain anonymity:

I currently work at a windsports centre, and recently someone crashed one of the quad bikes that we use for patrolling the beach into a building causing a few hundred pounds worth of damage; following the incident, only the senior members of staff are permitted to use them, even if lower-ranked staff (such as myself, the only woman to have done so at a competency rate on par with the men) have received full training for it... and I kinda found myself saying "why have the actions of one person ruined things for forty others?"
That same principle extends to this game; I'm not going to punish everyone for the actions of a few people, so I've just carried on...

Fear not, the writeups are mostly done; I've got to organise a replacement for civplayah, if his posts in Beskar's game are anything to go by, so once that's done, you can start voting each other again! :laugh4:

Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
End of Night Three
https://i884.photobucket.com/albums/...ion/Estate.jpg
In the entrance hall of the Royal Palace
A lone guard, tasked with preserving the integrity of the throne room while the residents slept, shuffled uneasily on his feet; the atmosphere of the king's regal abode had changed dramatically within the space of a few hours and, while he enjoyed working during the day and interacting with visitors, he immensely disliked the night shift. His heavy-set hazel eyes scanned the entrance hall from right-to-left; where before there had been guests arguing about matters of life and death among the warm hospitality of the palace's servants, there was now silence and a chilling sensation that shook the guard to the very core.
Seconds, minutes, hours; the guard found himself struggling to stay awake as time passed by, and even drifted off into sleep at one point until he was woken by clunking footfalls upon the nearby stone. A squat figure, clearly dwarven, had emerged from the corridors that led to the various chambers of the king's houseguests, clad from head to toe in some of the finest armour that the guard had ever seen, clearly crafted by the most skilled of the Smith's Caste. The platemail-clad dwarf nodded curtly from beneath his visor, passing the guard and heading down the opposite corridor; his pace was quick despite the weight of his armour... he had somewhere to be.
-----------------------------------------------------
Double A tossed and turned in his bed, struggling to sleep. He was used to having the bedspace to himself, but had found himself spending these hours with some female company of late, and she was prone to taking as much of the bed covers to keep herself warm at the expense of her lover. Exasperated, Double A climbed from off the bed and threw a thick, earthen-hued robe on, shuffling his feet to get some feeling back into them after several hours of lying down; he moved towards the stone door that led out into the corridor... perhaps a quick walk around the palace would clear his mind.
*SLAM*
The door flew open, throwing Double A backwards several feet, whereby he collided with a nearby pillar; his vision blurred and body aching, the dwarf squinted through watering eyes, attempting to make out his attacker but to no avail. Nearby, Double A's female friend had awoken with fear and surprise visible upon her pale face; in seconds she had thrown herself beneath the bed, cowering at the masked attacker that stood in the frame of the door.
Several heavy footfalls later, the assailant had stormed over to the fallen Double A; in one smooth motion, a darkened gauntlet had firmly grasped a sizeable bunch of the dwarf's woolen robes, and hurled him across the room with a loud crash. Silent in both tone and resolve, the plate-clad assailant proceeded to attack Double A with his fists, each blow magnified in force by the steel gauntlets.
The female below the bed trembled and shuffled around nervously as she listened to the violent beating that was happening around her. Her frantic movements led the construction to grind across the ground somewhat, causing a nearby leaning object to fall to the stone beside her with the heaviest thud she had ever heard; she could make out a long metallic handle and what appeared to be a solid mass of alloyed metal and stone at the end of it.
Double A hit the ground beside the weapon, having been thrown once more by the unknown attacker; his features bore an array of cuts and bruises that painted his face in hues of scarlet, blue, indigo and black, and still he maintained an aura of defiance that his foe found both amusing and worrisome.
"You picked the wrong target tonight, my friend", Double A spat bitterly, rubbing a sleeve across his blood-streaked lips; in the blink of an eye, he flicked his right foot upwards, flipping the metallic shaft upwards from the ground and into his hand... the maul's sleek handle had found it's master, fitting his grip better than any glove or gauntlet could.
The plate-clad assailant roared, unhooking his axe and hurling it towards Double A, the chain rattling in the air in the wake of the curved blade; with a deft flick of his hands, the dwarf had parried the blow with his own weapon, sending the axe hurtling off and into the ground where it stuck fast. Sensing the opportunity, Double A charged at his foe, turning a full circle before catching the distracted attacker square in the chest with a horizontal strike.
Following up on this, Double A maintained the momentum of his offense, raining down several blows with the hammer; each was met with a resounding clunk as it struck against the platemail, each was swung with as much force as the last, each kept the attacker from regaining his previous advantage. It had become clear that the battle had now shifted entirely against him, and it was with great reluctance and greater speed that the platemail assailant retrieved his weapon and fled before he was pulverised.
Double A slammed his weapon against the ground and stood triumphantly among the debris; a grin, visible even among his bushy beard, met the young woman as she crawled from beneath the bed and wrapped her arms around his waist.

Day Four
Voting concludes at 21:00 GMT, 29/07/10
https://i884.photobucket.com/albums/...ondQuarter.jpg
On the streets of the Diamond Quarter
Town criers pour onto the streets as the city guards begin to light the torches, illuminating Orzammar for the day; the criers begin to shout the same message over and over to anyone who walked by.
"News of the hour! Rumours abound that Beskar has lost his possessions on a secret trip to the surface, in blantant defiance of our ancestors! The Shaperate declares it an outrage!"
---------------------------------------------------------------
https://i884.photobucket.com/albums/...marCommons.jpg
On the streets of the Commons
The merchants of Orzammar had been busy arranging their wares long before the guards had emerged; it took hours to haul equipment from homes to stalls, and then there was the presentation of it all... cuirasses fixed upon training dummies, swords propped up against walls. piles of sparkling gems and boxes lined with various tonics.
There was only one item available that day:
---------------------------------------------------------------
https://i884.photobucket.com/albums/...oyalPalace.jpg
In the Throne Room of the Royal Palace
King Endrin Aeducan was once again a missing presence that morning, and thus it fell to Duncan once more to usher in the guests and lead proceedings; ArpeggiateTHIS accompanied the tanned Grey Warden into the throne room and took a seat in the middle of the gathering crowd, recently released from his night in the cells.
"I am glad to see that you are all present and correct, ladies and gentlemen", Duncan began,
"I have news regarding the death of Lady Dordan."
The hub-bub of the guests subsided entirely, with each person present listening intentently to the words of the human, who proceeded to continue with a solemn tone to his voice.
"While we haven't determined the exact cause of her death, we have established that there was no harm inflicted upon her body, physical or magical, but there is still much to learn... in the meantime, the king is adamant that you are getting close to the true end to the tale, so I will take my leave and allow you to debate matters further."
Duncan clapped his hands, bowed and left the throne room, leaving his two Warden companions to keep guard over the guests.

Which are different then the ones coming off of you? They seep through your pores like a pile of crushed lyrium through the stone. The fine Lady Dordan was indeed murdered but are we not all brothers of the stone? As such we should be more...savoir-faire in our accusations, especially when aiming them at such a fine(available?) lass as this john. I suppose that is a lesson that is lost on a commoner such as yourself.
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
And what's this about you visiting the surface? All dwarves are taught how such acts are strictly forbidden. If these accusations be true, your name shall be stricken from the shaperate. Let us pray that this claim is nothing more then mere rumor, conjured by the hoopleheads of dust town.
-
Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
Ahhh, lovely fresh Orzammarian air. The finest you can get without going outside! With this fiasco over, I hope that you'll look upon my name with grace in future.
Also, I'd like you to note the Dwarven Shortsword that I have so kindly sold to the traders. I, for one, do not wish to attack anybody in this grave period of time. I would hope that one of the Wardens would purchase my sword to prevent it from being used to ill intent.

Having read this, I'd like to add that if you don't have a weapon and you're sat on a stack of gold, why not buy the sword? A blade doesn't always serve for an offensive approach...

How long does someone remain in prison?
Imprisoning lasts until the following day phase.
Do they need to be voted back out of prison?
They are automatically released.
Do people remain in exile until death or can they be brought back into Orzammar somehow?
Exile means that player has been removed from the game; I'm reluctant to kill some characters as they could be used in future stories. :3
Is our host Secura a fellow Dwarf?
Let's not turn this into a racial debate, good sir!
Do I need to learn how to count?
Maths is a critical part of the curriculum!

Assuming you were caught doing so. There are surface dwellers who maintain contact with Orzammar to engage in trade and the like. The crier said it was done in secret. Is there any way to prove you have not forsaken the stone?

Unimprison, Imprison: johnhughthom
john is blatantly taking the easy vote and bandwagoning for Beskar. He hasn't exactly been acting like the exemplary dwarf lately, either. I think he's the best suspect we have so far; much better than a victim of rumors or a stumbling drunk.
To whoever asked me before- no, I didn't imprison anyone personally, I wanted to be sure of Arpeg's alignment since his innocence was highly in question.
-

This is actually my fault, I think.
In some role PMs, I wasn't particularly clear about personal goals or abilities that pertained to achieving said goals, which has led to either strategic use or outright reluctance in regards to said abilities; thus, you're seeing a game where there's been a single lynch and two failed kills, but very more. I've been PMing players and filling them in on the why's and whatfor's, explaining personal goals a little more... if you need any answers regarding your own and you're unsure, PM me.
I'm hoping that we'll see a little more activity once things begin to escalate and the bodycount rises. :3

[No I didn't... anyway, how am I susposed to know why some one randomly makes a false statement, I will demonstrate -
Did you know that Johnhughtom names his cats after Beethoven symphonies?]

End of Day Four
https://i884.photobucket.com/albums/...oyalPalace.jpg
Inside the Throne Room
Without King Endrin or Duncan to officiate proceedings, the guests had descended into all-out verbal conflict with Beskar being the principal aim of their anger and fear; using the town criers as a basis for their arguments, they levelled several accusations at the dwarf which he attempted to swat away with solid reasoning, with somewhat limited success.
"Why would I go to the surface when it's strictly against our laws?", he stated firmly,
"I value my caste and do not wish to relinquish my rights!"
"So then, you are saying that the rumour is false?", Renata asked, eyes narrowing at Beskar with a mix of suspicion and surprise.
"Precisely!", the accused dwarf boomed authoritatively,
"someone is casting aspersions on my good name!"
The crowd returned to their tumultuous talking; Beskar could hear some murmurs of agreement and support on his behalf, but there seemed to be a growing consensus that a night in the cells might be the best option until the claims against him were proven to be true or false.
"The thing that I don't understand", johnhughthom said quietly,
"is why someone would do this?"
Beskar snorted derisively, a disapproving look evident in his eyes and curled lips. He had a feeling that his fellow guests might turn on him eventually; there was a sense of inevitability in it, like the metal of a newly-sharpened blade eventually dulling over time or the painful death of a dwarf tainted by darkspawn blood in battle... he had, in all honesty, expected it sooner.
"Is it not obvious? Someone doesn't like me!" he roared as the two Grey Wardens accosted him from the room, each holding one of the dwarf's arms; the guests could still hear his indignant protestations as he left the palace, and it was with a heavy heart and tired mind that they all trudged off to their respective resting places for the night.

The round will be extended up to midnight GMT; I'm still waiting on a few orders. >.<

Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
Alrighty, night orders are all in (bar one person, you know who you are!); I'll get to work on a writeup and polish off the one from the previous night phase... they'll be up sometime tomorrow. :3
As an additional note, I've changed my mind regarding how end-game performance is determined; you'll notice in your role PMs that each goal (victory, personal or survival) carries a percentage rating that says how much it is worth to a final score... I'm going to utilise a points system instead after seeing how much sense it made in Lylat Wars and some other games I looked back over.
This shouldn't have any significant impact on how the game plays out, and it should make final standings alot more clear. :3

No more Disneyland, let's kill someone! Maybe the traitors will feel some pressure if they are threatened by our methods.
@Chaotix: Has our jailor imprisoned someone last night?

Re: Dragon Age: The Aeducan Succession
Chaotix was stolen from yesterday, and he is known to us as being an important person in our investigation. This may mean that the thief stealing from him has no intention on watching the town finding the killer and our enemy may be amongst the paupers. It would at least make sense to place a thief amongst the poor. Johnhughtom was claiming earlier on that he was very poor, and as it is, I don't see we have better option that to remove the beggars one by one.
