BKB Super Mod

BKB, i have a sugestion for the next updates:
change flags/shields of Hungarians and Bizantines too; turn them more accurate.

For the Hungarians just see these link:

For the Bizantines, i think the most accurate is a red flag/shield with a golden double-head eagle, topped with a golden crown, similar to several coat of arms of some eastern europe nations, like Serbia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and so on.

BKB, I have also played medmod, as I am sure alot of you have done.

The BKB mod units are definitely cooler -- there are so many more choices so that you can make your faction's flavor consistent with your playing style. I liked it.

How difficult is it to move the cool BKB units to the medmod??

Went to the address you posted and tried downloading the files zip and Z01. Guess your not supposed to download Z01.
The ZIPfile downloaded but when I opened it these error messages came up. It did let me install several files after these however. I'll post the details of what did download if nescessary.
Feeling a little cautious about installing. Have I downloaded the Winzip prematurely when I should have downloaded Winrar or ???

Just ignore my wittering. I've found the WinRar file. The .Rar bit isn't visible on the download page thats my excuse anyway, or maybe I'm just a bit impetous. That besides ETA 3mins. (I guess the zip file isn't ready yet.)

p.s mbrasher, its very easy to move units from MedMod to BKB so guess its as easy to do the reverse. Just make sure you use Gnome editor and correct the appropriate factions and other relevant details. I prefer to add the units to BKB that way you don't have to sacrifice those lurvvvely New factions and the campaign map. You can script in alot of other stuff from MedMod yourself.

BKB, about Klibanophori, I don't have any idea. It could be cool to make Kataphraktoi armed with good bow (MTLG), lance and sword (they are considered to be the best medieval soldiers), good statistics and balance this with longer creation time and higher price, because they were trained in tactics and strategy, too while Klibanophoroi (or Klibanarii) would be heavy assault cavalry better in melee, but without bows and slower. This is only idea, because their equipment differed. Sometimes thy were used only like cavalry, sometimes like horse archers.

If you want to be historically accurate, Klibanophoroi should not be used after the battle of Manzikert in 1071, so they should only be available in early.

It would probably be ok to make them available in early, since it probably look a little while before they were completely phased out.

A good lineup for the Byzantines would be:

Stratiotoi (Byzantine Lancers)
Trapezitoi (as Spanish Jinetes)
Skutatoi (Byzantine Infantry)
Peltastoi (as Skutatoi, padded Bambakion armor, round Theuros Shield, spear & javelin)
Psiloi (Trebizond archers)
Kavallarioi (Byzantine Cavalry)

plus the assorted mercenaries.

I agree with Stratiotai, Psiloiand Skutatoi, but can't with Peltastoi (those were men with special shield throwing spears, but in greek armies not in byzantine, I think). I don't know Trapezitoi and Kavallarioi. There is forum about this http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin....t=15040

I've got an idea about military academy. It seem that this building is pretty useless (except turks of course).
This idea is, that after construction of this building you could be able to train generals. It would be small unit probably mounted on horseback useless for combat but with high speed (12,24,26 or something like this) and command. What do you thing. Byzantine Peltastoi were not the same as ancient Greek Peltastoi. I believe they were an economic measure. They were Byzantiums Medium infantry.

Do a search on Byzantine Peltastoi (or Peltasts), you should find something.

OK my comments so far BKB:

Shamans ROCK Good work and good description Very professional.

Cumin Warriors are well balanced. I put them against a group of 200 byzantine warriors first, and the cumins lost but took roughly 100 byzantines with them. Good balance between bows and swordplay. I then placed them against Fuedal menatarms and the fuedals won of course, with 45 remaining. All in all a very well balanced and needed Cumin unit.

A few gripes now. I noticed assassins still cant be trained by the cumins. I assume spies cannot either. Any reason for this? Otherwise shrines work now, gonna be lots of fun Once you name the kings Khans instead of King and possibly rework noble titles Duke of ... doesnt seem right for cumins. Perhaps Lord of ... or even Khan of ... would be much better than Duke.

BKB full marks on the shaman. I just downloaded your patch to see it( i havent got mtw yet).When i heard you were going to make one, i was a bit sceptical, but it looks fantastic, i can't wait till i get the game next week, so i can see it in action, because of course i will be getting your mod straight away, as i hear you are one of the best modders around. keep it up.

I believe Tudun would be an appropriate governors title for the Cumans.

Ruler = Khan
Regional Governor = Tudun
General = Tarkhan

This title should more appropriately be used for the Avars and Khazars.

Beg is also another option, this is the same as an Ottoman Bey.

One thing I noticed I didnt like about the pagan shrines. It seems they spread paganism rapidly in adjacent provinces. Poland and Hungary were within 20-30 years 50% pagan And i only had a small shrine in the adjacent provence. Is there a way to make paganism not effect adjacent provinces? That would be much more realistic and fun

Those shamans ROCK One pass in constantinople and I had 10% of my Greeks praying to Odin Byzantine Empire is having MAJOR problems with the aggressive west, while the turks are far more passive. The Croats are very powerful, very agressive, and I am still amazed by the potential of these croat light cavalry.

Croats: Balkan warbands (IMHO best unit of the game), Croat light cavalry (second best unit of the game), über generals ( http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...gc-stunned.gif seven star king??) and a nice starting position between weak Hungary, even weaker Germany, uninterested Venice and the struggling Byz Empire.

Balkan warbands are overpowered. Im sorry, but getting these very good spearmen, or better, heavy halberdiers, for a spearmakersworkshop is powerful. The Croats recruit them from start
Croat light cavalry is fast, powerful, and well defended. They can easily dispatch other cavalry (even kats as they are very slow), take control of the battlefield and smash anything they want. Well, that's not necessarily bad, but in combination with the balkan warbands they're really effective.
The biggest problem are the Croat heirs. They've got 6 stars or more, and this gives their units effectively another 3 valour. Of course our Byzantines have that too, but they also have the suckiest starting position of the game, while the Croats are a lot saver.

England was broken again this time. They attacked the French immidiately, were massacred, had a civil war, and then war with the rest of the isles... I hope they'll do better next game.
Genoese and Venicians are really passive in my games. There is actually almost no struggle on the Italian peninsula at all... But maybe that changes when I play a different faction.
The battle on Iberia, in Scandinavia and the balkans is really good. Neither side can gain the upper hand, as the most powerful forces (Almoravids and Byzantines) face usually a coalition of all the others. Valencia survives until El Cid dies. His 9 stars save his little kingdom, but his sons cannot keep it up. Spain is quite weak actually, but together with Navarre and Aragon they can hold their own against the Almoravids.
The Norse, the Danish and the Novgorods are fighting in equal force a battle for the baltic. They're almost equally powerful, as the novgorods can't get up a good navy, while the Scandinavians can't get up an equal land force.
Cumans are doing well, as are the other eastern europeans. As no one fights eachother there until the Byz are whiped out it's usually a silent place http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif

Going good, the patch has solved many problems, but haven't dealed with the little overpowered Croats (Im paranoid about them, I know http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/wacko.gif). Raising the building requirements for certain units should deal with it.

Hmm, i think i might bring up the requirements for Balkan warband and lower the strengths of the CLC.

Well, the byzantines (and all the other orthodoxians) get very easily alliances with other orthodox christians, and rarely alliances with other religions. Not bad tho It just suprised me as it wasn't the case in the original game.

Back to this point - it was a plain case of forgetfullness. One note: Its not the shamans that are spreading the paganism. Its the alters. I moved all my shamans away from the adjacent provences and still paganism is rising. It just doesnt seem right to build a shrine and then see adjacent christian states fall to paganism. Although its to my benefit its unrealistic, and detracts from my enjoyment. I'm loving playing as the Byzantines. Trying to fight the Genoese, Cumans, Hungarians, Turks, and Egyptians all at once, with hardly enough money just to retrain the casulties. Awesome. Thats cool, glad to see the Genoese start a war. I was a little worried from peoples feedback that the gens/ and venetians weren't doing much but i think it depends on the faction you are. Saw Venice get into a war with Sicilians over Naples when i was England.

Ok a possible bug, I modified the start date to 890 (I think the 1086 start date is too late) and I played as the Valencians. After pumping out the first set of heirs, my first king died and the others took over, one by one as they died. NONE gave birth to any males. 2 princesses came out but no males... And I went through 6 MARRIED kings. WTF?

With all due respect i don't think thats a bug. Maybe It could be something to do with your starting date change

I dont think so. I did the same thing with my Cumin game and heirs were produced as normal. Im gonna start a normal start date valencian game and see what happens. perhaps there is a set date for the next heir to be born? Like El cid? Maybe the game wont give heirs till he is born...

ok when I set the date to normal starting date I produce heirs as normal. It appears to be a valencian issue. I like to start all my games earlier, and would like to know possibly how to fix this...

BKB, i'm playing with the cumans after installing the update and it's really cool. The cuman warriors are great. The shaman is even great now it's possible to convert catholics, ortodox and muslims to paganism, eh eh eh

Are you thinking to make shamans available to other pagan factions as well? like the Mongols?

hey don't know if you guys already fixed this but I stayed up a night and fixed the deadpage coords for all the new units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/gc-zzz.gif. I'm sure it only works with the super early campaign but that's no trouble.

I haven't looked at the Valencian issue, and if I'm honest I probably won't as there are many other aspects I need to look at to get High out.

Ok two major unbalanced units I discovered.

Nubian Infantry. These medium infantry (my ass) can wipe out an entire unit of Fuedal men at arms without breaking a sweat. They plow through ANYTHING. Hell they even take a charge from cavalry like nothing. Another unit like this:

Ruthenian Infantry. If the poles had these badboys in WW2 the friggin nazis would have been smashed These things cleave through just about anything. Im going to run some tests... but these units are WAY overpowered.

Not to rush you BKB, but do you have an ETA by any chance for the High?

Ok some tests:

120 Nubian Infantry vs 120 Fuedal Men at arms = 90 Nubians left, Fuedals smashed.

120 N.I. vs 200 Italian Infantry = 95 nubians left, Italians destroyed

120 N.I. vs 80 Fuedal MOUNTED knights (note I took personaly command of the knights, came at a slightly downward slope and did a full running charge into the nubians) = Initial charge killed only 5 nubians, I then got them down to 61 left but I had 2 knights left and they ran... CLEARLY these units are overpowered. Please knock them a few notches down. As well as the Ruthenian Infantry.

Playing the .05 release as Pope, and noticed 2 things...

OK I downloaded .6 and installed it. The Cuman Pagan Shamans are very cool, but possibly a little overpowered. It takes maybe 3 or 4 years and I can have a territory almost 90% Pagan. I think that is maybe a little too powerful. Also a couple of Observations in regards to that fact: It seems generally alot harder to convert Islamic provinces, with Catholic coming in a distant 2nd and Orthodox is just plain easy to convert. Any reason for this, I am monitoring the Zeal of each province and while it does have an effect on conversion it doesn't seem to matter with the Islamic provinces. Also there are no Cuman Princesses, a new pic for the Chancellory (on purpose?) and no picture for Royal Court. Now as I've only done a Cuman campaign I can't say if the no Royal Court picture and new Picture for Chancellory are across the board or just Cuman related. I will continue to play and let you know of anything odd I see. Also I'd like to enable Pricesses for Cuman can I just go to the Unit file and change that or do I need to stick another portrait folder somewhere as well?

Cuman princess? Ummm I dont think they valued there daughters as diplomats or pawns. They were probobly married off young and forgotten...

I dont think its the shamans that giving you such pagan growth. Its more likely the alters. They effect adjacent provinces as well as the provence they are in. I mentioned this to BKB before, he said he will fix it.

This may not be entirely out of line.

I believe Parts of Greece were pretty much Paganized after it was overrun by the Slavs. It wasn't until Basil (very beginning of 1000's) brought in Sicilian and Calabian Greek settlers that the Peloponnese became Greek Orthodox once again.

Just copy and paste it to the location in your MEN folder under texture folder. Theres a file in there called Dead coordinates or Deadpage coordiantes. Works fine too Excellent

I've sent picture for ending of Bohemian faction for you, so you don't have to bother with it.

I've found some problems.
Klibanophroi are overpowered. Speed 12/21/23 (or something this way) and bonuses 9/6/8 and MTLG make them too strong. Remove from them MTLG and give it to Kataphraktoi and Byzantine Cavalry and change the speed. To Kataphraktoi 9/20/22 (or something this way, like other heavy cavalry), to Byzantine Cavalry 12/21/23 and to Klibanophoroi speed which Kataphraktoi Currently have.

I've also found bug when Andalusian Cavalry march speed is set to 20.

About Croatian Cavalry, I don't thing that they've had fastest cavalry of the world. Their speed should be the same as Alan Mercenaries have.

What about my idea of training generals in Military Academy?

Not sure if I'll do the Generals. Would seem strange having the same ones for each faction, and it'd be too much work to do different ones.
