Patience, young tribunes, patience...
p.s. By the way, that a really interesting avatar you have on the RTR forum, Tincow, throws a whole new light on my mental image of your personality :laugh4:
That's the avatar I use everywhere but here. I tend to talk out of my ass, so I figured it was appropriate.Quote:

The last two are adopted, right? The candidates in my campaign are so boring.. every single one is a Former Tribune with 4 years of former service, most of them being True Romans as well.
By the way, anyone noticed the certain order of avatars? In my campaign, since I adopted one less before the batch of coming of age kids, my avatar is an adoptee, while Pansa's avatar is the first kid, MS's avatar is the second and so on. My current avatar is an adoptee, and a good one too!
Also, are we having problems with governors? Having a tribune in all legions, I only have governors in Capua and Roma.
It's normal that all the patrician kids have military service, right?
The report has been edited with a small, yet important, update.
I think we're going to take a beating from Macedon. Now that we are at war with Macedon it might be worthwile to once again try to make an alliance with Illyria and Thrace. We're just lucky they are still pretty weak. I fought it out with them once on VH/VH where they had the entire Greek Peninsula and Thrace. They produced about three full stacks every turn. Turned into a 100-turn conflict before I finally crushed them. I'll post in a link of my sort-of-AAR when the RTR forum is back up.
Sounds like a nice summary of my current campaign, DDW. I've got modern-day Italy, Corsica and the Peloponnese. No prizes for guessing which took the longest, hardest and bloodiest fighting on both sides, while it was only a measley three provinces.
I say "Yay Macedon!":dancing: . I now have an excuse to become a full blown war monger :skull:
....we only have three legions there, the fighting will be hard and deadly....this is gonna be great.
I say let's get 'em :duel:
Well, it looks like things are getting interesting. :2thumbsup: Macedon is usually a worthy opponent. :sweatdrop:
I now have three avatars to allocate. I think I'll take Numerius Aureolus as a second Quintus would be a little confusing and Marcellus looks more like a fun Upper Senate member to role-play.
In terms of the other two youngsters, my immediate query is whether anyone in the Upper Senate with a non-general avatar wants to switch - e.g. with a view to stepping down into the Lower House? Specifically, GeneralHankerchief and Braden have both been really active in this PBM - are they happy to keep their spies or do they want a young general (both are 16)?
Otherwise, I am inclined to give one general to Shadeswolf who has a decent voting record; the other is open to offers.
BTW, I've compiled a list of people's voting record and will update the FAQ with it. As we progress, I think it is a more relevant primary criterion for assigning avatars than seniority (which I'll use as a tie-breaker instead).
EDIT: Forgot to welcome Hannibal99! Welcome! I've added you to the list of players in the FAQ. Please feel free to post contributions in the in-character thread and to vote in future motions. I'll assign you an avatar in due course.
BTW, I am elevating Destroyer of Hope to the Upper House. He seems inactive in the PBM and it would be risky for a First Consul to rely on him to fight a battle. I'm happy to reverse this decision if he asks me to.
Finally, are we agree on updating to 4TPY 1.9.3 as TinCow recommends? I'm particularly interested in our Senate Fixer's (DDW) stamp of approval. If he could indicate how I should revise the installation instructions in the FAQ, I'd be grateful. This is probably an issue we should finalise when he has navigated the Rapidshare issue.
I'll move to the Lower House, but I'll wait to do so until Rapidshare has everything needed to run the PBeM properly.
If it's OK with Braden I'll take Marcellus Aemillius, whose traits/retinue could make for some fantastic role-playing.
for my reference: Marcellus's avatar is 323, 800 posts req'd.
I am not really worried about the 4TPY 1.9.3 upgrade. If it turns out to be buggy it will be easy to downgrade again, but I would be suprised if this is the case. It should not be possible for the 4TPY mod to corrupt the savegame.Quote:

Since I tested it out, I've been trying to get RTRPE 1.6 with the latest Metro & Naval Mod working on the BI engine. I'm particularly keen on trying this after reading about the more challenging AI that results, but I've hit a brick wall and can't reference the instructions again until the RTR forums come back.Quote:

The mod files required to play as a lower house senator in this campaign have been uploaded at RapidShare.
It is a 7-part spanned zip file containing :
1. RTR_Platinum.exe
This is RTR Platinum 1.4
2. RTR_Platinum_v1.5_Patch.exe
This is the upgrade from RTR 1.4 to RTR 1.5
3. M_Nmod.exe
This is the version of the M&N mod compatible with RTR 1.5
4. HarbourLandBlock.zip
This is a zip containing the map fixes and installation instructions
You will need a vanilla RTW 1.5 install before installing ! If there is need I can upload the RTW patches also.
Before you can commence play you will have to delete all occurences of the map.rwm file in the total war directory and its subdirectories (don't worry if they reappear later, that's ok).
Here are the download links :
http://rapidshare.de/files/25686658/senate.z01.html
http://rapidshare.de/files/25688655/senate.z02.html

http://rapidshare.de/files/25778395/senate.z06.html
http://rapidshare.de/files/25778948/senate.zip.html
All files are 76 MB. The last one is 16 MB (Total : 76 * 6 + 16 = 472 MB).
The files have been zipped with WinZip, but any decent extractor will suffice I expect. There is no guarantee as yet that my upload is not corrupted. That will have to be tested. Any volunteers ?
EDIT: Econ21, would you be so kind as to adjust the instructions in the FAQ ?
thanks Death looking forward to voting
Edit: Woops generalhankerchef took marcellus
Argh, I don't know which to download. I've got all the mods except the landblocks.
Should I just re download it all? But I want to keep the save game I have... Decisons decisions.
Well, unfortunately you will need to download it all to get the landblocks file, but I can upload just the landblocks tonight if you want that. I do not think installing the landblocks later on is savegame compatible, so you will need to delete the map.rwm files and start a new campaign unfotunately.Quote:

Tiberius - the landblock fix is very small, so I've uploaded it onto the Org's PBM uploader. The file is called HarborLandBlock.zip.
I’d dearly love to play in the Lower House but I still don’t have a working PC at home (apart from a pretty poor laptop for emergency access only).
I’ll stick with Decius for now.
OK, I'll assign Marcus Aemilius to GeneralHankerchief and await his instruction for transfering him to the Lower House.
Quintus Naevius goes to Shadeswolf.
Hannibal99, if you are active posting and voting, you'll probably be at the top of the list for the next general spawned. There are no active Upper House Senators now without avatars.
With Quintus's Bio post now blank, I'm turning it into a general info area for family members. Starting with the next update I will include info on the names and ages of underage family members, so people will know exactly when to expect more avatars to be available.
Good thinking, Econ21, now why didn't I think of that ?Quote:

That would be great, GeneralHankerchief. I'll try to make some time to test it myself this weekend. Luckily the download should be a lot speedier than the upload :laugh4:
There was some discussion about allowing people with low post counts to access the avatars (Org avatars - ie pictures) they wanted. At one stage, it looked like this was going to lead to all Org members being given free access to all the standard (non-custom) avatars. I've now raised this issue in the Watchtower:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=66971
It's a poll, so if you want you can vote without having to post a reason.
Just out of curiosity, what ever happened to that Macedonian army that was kick out of Aquileia after you guys bought the province? Is it still lurking up there in ambush or has it moved off? If it is still there, looks like an easy target for Legio II, with it being trap and isolated, right?
The Macodnian army is still up there. It is literally stuck between the Venetian fort and Aquileia, and cannot exit without attacking.
The problem is that shifty157, whose avatar is the commander of the nearby legion, has been missing. So, I'm not really sure if he'd be available for a battle.
shifty is pretty regularly posting on the Org, but mainly about modding. If you drop him a PM, I'm sure he'd let you know whether he was available to fight a battle or not. Or I can contact him if you want.
Ok econ well i wont be on alot this month. im going somewhere... ill be very active after that.Quote:

It was a defeat, and your men can't respawn after that, quite a shame.
econ: DoH is active on the org and I pmed him telling him that it would be a good idea to get active or drop his avatar, but he ignored it after reading it.
But no shame on X-danger, of course. In fact, kudos to him for not reloading - I would have been tempted to (impenetrable forcefields not being a feature of most Ancient battles).Quote:

Looks like the AI marched onto the battlemap right into an unaccessable part of the map ~:(
I've seen units get stuck on the map plenty of times, but never trapped behind a un-navigable feature.
I've fought on that exact same battlefield before, but was playing with timer off. It's ridiculously annoying because the AI won't move at all. There actually IS a way to get at them, but it's very difficult. There is a gap wide enough for a single soldier to walk up on the left side right at the red line. It's difficult, but sometimes if you move a unit right into that area, then tell them to attack a unit close by on the other side of it, your men will move up there at a walk in single file. This takes forever and obviously results in high casualties since your men are heavily outnumbered when they get in there, but when I fought it I didn't have much of a choice.
It's a stupid buggy map and there's nothing that can be done about it. Try to avoid fighting in that exact same spot, since it always appears there.
As far as the Senate is concerned and for the official battle results chart, I don't think we should count this as a defeat.
Ok, I am beginning download of the Rapidshare files, although it was later than expected.
Judging by the amount of time it'll take I probably won't finish it/know whether it's buggy until Monday. Will keep you informed.
EDIT: Stupid Rapidshare makes you wait 70 minutes between downloads. This definitely ain't getting finished up tonight. Oh well...
Edit 2: Two out of six downloaded. So far the downloads themselves have progressed smoothly, but of course that means nothing. I'll do the other four (plus the one from the Org uploader) tomorrow.
Maybe you could post a screenshot of the battle's location on the campaign map in the library at the time of the next Senate session? It does seem familiar to me - I recall having my reinforcements stuck behind some such rocks. IIRC, I found a way to extricate them (it involved withdrawing, then redirecting etc). But it was very frustrating.Quote:

A small Greek army has "besieged" Corinth, where you are located. They are of little actual threat, and this is merely an insulting gesture. You are to sally forth and destroy them.

You may hire up to one unit of mercenaries to leave as garrison in addition to any troops of your army you won't need at Athens. If you do march on Athens, attack the army located just south of it. If you capture Athens, please occupy it with no enslavement. Good luck.

DDW, a problem/question.
Your first Rapidshare file, senate.z01 can't be unzipped. It "does not appear to be a valid archive." I am waiting for my waiting period to expire so I can re-download.
The others can be unzipped, but the only thing is that the only thing that shows up in WinZip is the still-zipped file, plus a couple extra MB. The only one that's worked properly is the landblock, which I DL'd from the Org uploader.
Is this just my technical non-knowledge or something bigger? Thanks.
Hiya GeneralHankerchief,
Thanks for going to the effort of downloading all this stuff.
It is actually one (1) big zip file split into many parts. You need only unzip the file marked .zip (senate.zip) and it will unzip the other files.
So just select the senate.zip file, right-click, and select ''extract to...'' and create a senate folder (or whatever).
Econ21, it might be handy to add this explanation to the download links
If this poses problems I will start downloading these buggers myself tomorrow.
Thanks for the help, DDW. :medievalcheers:
My problem was twofold:
1. I didn't download the main extractor file thinking it was the landblock.
2. I renamed the files senate01, etc. when downloading which messed up the extracting.
Currently installing RTR Platinum, will update if it's successful or not. But so far all looks good. *crosses fingers*
UPDATE: I tried FLYdude's midterm savegame and it immediately crashed. My best bet will be just reinstalling everything, since I don't know what triggered it. I can do normal campaigns however, so it's probably not a problem with RTR.
I've been doing some research (read: DDW helping out YAKOBU) and I think the problem lies with the maps, since I have BI. I may just have to uninstall the expansion and go from there.
Please try this.
Install all the stuff and delete all the map.rwm files.
Fire it up and start a new campaign. This should generate new and correct map.rwm files. Now try to load a senate save once again. Perhaps it crashed due to a lack of an existing map.rwm file.
If you use BI you need to patch up to 1.6 before installing all this stuff, but in theory, it should work. I can't test that as I don't have BI, but I believe some people have been using it in this PBeM.
I'll download this stuff myself when this horrible heatwave is over which is killing me (second one in two weeks ! I think 20 degrees is way too hot ! It's 35 degrees out here ! I'm feeling wretched :skull: )
Worked like a charm. Cheers DDW, you now have another son! ~
(And seriously, thanks a lot. I feel for you with the heat wave, it's been around 36, 37 these last two days here.)
Just to confirm, I am now in the Lower House.
Yeeha !
That's excellent !
Econ21, could you add the text about first starting a new campaign after installing and deleting the map.rwm files before loading the savegame ?
GeneralHankerchief, Are you running it with BI now, or with plain RTW ?
Well it seems that my charcter, Marcus Laevinus, died a heroes death in the battle around Scodra. A shame really, as I returned to the story only days before - coming back from being absent for some time.
With the death of my current avatar I suppose I need a new one, do I have a choice in the matter if so, which characters are currently available ?
:balloon2:
It definately does work with BI.. (Working example: Me)
I am not sure if we have spawned any new generals since the interim session, but you'll be first on the list when we do.Quote:

Thanks GeneralHankerchief and x-dANGEr,
It is good to know it works on both editions and that the downloads are not corrupted. On the issue of Future Princeps Senatus, I suggest the charcter with the highest rank, and in case of a tie there, the highest age, gets this. I am unsure who that is at the moment.
Well, Dutch_guy, I'm sorry your charcter Marcus Laevinus perished. Try to see it in a positive light, at least he did not die of plague or assasination, but as a true roman hero on the battlefield.
Has anyone managed to log in on the RTR forums since friday ? They have been offline for a very long time now it seems. Either that, or I am the victim of phishing.
TinCow, where can I get the 1.9.3 version of the 4TPY mod ?
Well yes, I suppose that's true. Though an assassination could have been fairly interesting for the story line...Quote:

On the future Princeps Senatus, the PBM says FAQ says that we will take a Senate vote. I am wondering about confining candidates to those in the Upper House. My first thought was confine it to former First Consuls but they don't need the influence - they rack up enough through battles etc. But it might actually be worth something to those in the Upper Senate. Any reactions?
We should use the cheat console to get rid of the disinherited thread from Verginius.
Minor point, but being the fact that the Future Princeps Senatus is the same thing as the faction heir, he does get the increased bodyguard size which could be critical. Although it will be impossible to tell who will be doing a lot of fighting far down the line we could base it off of immediate need. For example, Verginius' legion is hurting right now and I'm sure TinCow wouldn't mind the extra horses.Quote:

Very good point - I thought faction heir/leader was just a matter of influence, but the bodyguard issue is a biggie (I really appreciated it as Quintus).Quote:

Cheers.
Shouldn’t we be in the process of nominations etc by now??
It seems like ages since the last Consulship ended…..could be just me and an odd sense of the passage of time.:dizzy2:
Yes, things are slowing down - it's been 3 weeks. But it's not that much slower than before (we were averaging 2 weeks per Consulship before). If you look at the PBM uploader, you'll see one reason for the slowdowns - lots of battles are being fought by members of the Lower House; sometimes there are 6 savegames per turn. Personally, I like this - it creates a sense of collegiality and is one of the things that differentiates this PBM from others. AFAIK, we are up to Summer 261, so there should only be another three turns to go. I think we should aim for a Senate session starting early next week, so the new ruler can be in place for the weekend after.Quote:

Yes, I was wondering that too. OK, how about this - when a First Consul is elected, he makes himself the faction heir and removes the disinherited trait from whoever currently has it? (Although to be honest, leaving the ex-First Consuls with the disinherited trait actually sounds fitting).Quote:

I find relying on massive Praetorian bodyguards to win your battles for you to be a bit cheesy. I like econ21 his idea of making the faction leader the senate leader, but I am also not sure the game will like that. I'd recommend against doing that without testing.Quote:

Gah.. I had displaying problems with Alexander yesterday, and it appears I have them with Rome Total Realism ..
Any help would be appreciated.. And I think Simon should take over my battles till I can play again.. This is annoying gah!
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=67167
Doh! This leaves one battle pending right now. If the decision is reached that someone else should play it, the savegame is up here, else I can autoresolve it. The battle can't really be avoided as it's the Greeks that attacked.
Knowing auto-resolve all too well we should try all we can to get someone to play it.....and here I am, with NO computer at home still (*sniff*).
I'm gutted!
I'll fight the battle  - I'm curious to see how the campaign is going anyway, as it has been a while since I loaded up a savegame.
I hope you can get your computer problems sorted out, x-dANGEr. Keep us posted on your progress. Yesterday, mine cut out - just too hot, I think. Luckily it restarted when it had cooled down.
OK guys, just to let you know, this will probly be my last post for 7-8 days as I go on holiday tomorrow.
I would say make sure to keep me out of the battle, but that hasn't been a problem so far and I've been itching to get stuck into Macedon/Greece ~;)
Maybe I can actually fight my first battle of this game when I come back
*waves*
Funny thing, up until now, you haven't commanded a sufficient force to take on a full stack army. Reinforcements arrived last turn, but you were just one movement point short of getting into a battle. And now this. Oh well, better luck next time. ~;)Quote:

Auto-resolve isn't that bad though.. I use it in my campaign.
I've already decimated the Greeks and Macedonians, while the Parthians died an early Eastern death. The whole of the area between the Adriatic and the Aegean is mine, as is a little southern part of Gaul.
By the way, it's only 254 BC and already the Marian reforms have happened. :inquisitive:
Any idea why?
Auto-resolve works if your odds are 1:1 or greater. You're likely to regret using it if your odds are lower than that.
In RTRPE 1.5 the Marian reforms occur when a Roman city other than Rome builds an Imperial Palace, or whatever the top level building is called.
Ah, too much enslaving I suppose ~;p
Now both Roma and Capua have massive populations and lots of -pop growth.
By the way, a tip for First Consuls:
When reloading a game and you use enslaving, check that all the cities that should have massive population growth do. If they don't at first, just tweak with the tax rate, eg make it go Low->Med->Low. That gets it back to normal.
Ok. My problems are solved thanks to Braden.
So.. Put me back on the slaughter list!
@Simon: I hope you haven't tortured my men.. ~;)
A few things to note. The campaign is still rolling along at its own pace. There are usually two or three battles per turn. Because our generals are spread all over the world, online at different times, there are usually delays of several hours between battles. On average, I'd say that we have one to two battles in a 24 hour period, depending on who gets into a fight and when. That works out to a pretty slow average progress rate, but there isn't much that can be done. The good news is that we have entered Autumn 261, which, according to my calculations, leaves us with three turns to go.
Now, I haven't been writing a continuously updated report as during the first half-term. The reason for this is it felt kinda silly during a major war, like something a reporter would do rather than a general. I'd rather write it in the style of a good old-fashioned after-action report. In the meantime, you have a steady stream of battle reports to keep you amused.
We have acquired a new general, however. This guy:
https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y2...8/pacuvius.jpg
He married Placidia, daughter of Tiberius Coruncanius. He's in Pella right now.
Well a slower pace was to be expected I suppose, as the turns get longer and the battles more frequent. And as you mentioned, the time zone differences aren't exactly helping either.
I am happy a new general popped up, as I am currently not represented since my other avatar, Marcus Laevinius, died in battle.
Now I'm not aware of other Lower house members without an avatar, or for that matter Upper house members, so will I be represented in the senate - perhaps in battle - by Flavius Pacuvius ?
Also just to let you all know, I've recently installed the RTRPE 1.6 version and will in the near future probably install all of the other sub-mods which we are using this PBM. In short, it means that I may at some point decide to move down a house.
:balloon2:
Actually, this PBM is running on RTRPE 1.5. It won't work with a 1.6 install.Quote:

The only bordering factions not at war with me have only got one bordering region, namely Germania, the Ptolemaioi and Iberia.
OK, I'll assign you that chap. I hope you do move to the Lower House. As PBM vet, there's no reason to sit this one out. I doubt you'll regret installing the mod, it's very good.Quote:

Feel free to use it.
Ah, I see. Now I guess there's no way I could easily (without having to uninstall every 1.6 file) delete the 1.6 patch - and install the 1.5 one, or is there ?Quote:

About the install: Do I have to install it on a fresh RTW folder as opposed to a BI folder to get the right files? And am I a Legate yet by the way?
Hiya folks,
Back on the forum in time for the upcoming elections thanks to the timely assistance of FLYdude, econ21 and Ser Clegane. Gratitude and muchos kudos to all of you !
Dutch_guy, there is no easy way to downgrade from RTR 1.6 to RTR 1.5. I recommend a reinstall.
Tiberius, great work on the sig !
x-dANGEr, welcome back in the lower house !
