I have the save.
Yes, sorry AussieGiant, FactionHeir said what I was thinking with my excessively short abbreviation... Medieval II's victory conditions.
And I think we may be talking of two different kinds of football here, but whichever is your interest, it's an exciting time of year ~:)
either way, the analogy holds. we pass the save around like a little ball whether it is to be kicked or thrown. Either way, I hate sports. It just seemed like a semi-effective way to get the point across. :D
Bad news for some here. I've been asked to tell everyone that, due to a family situation, Olympia is no longer going to be able to join us. I know she was planning to write with at least two people here, and possibly more than that. But it appears that won't be allowed to happen. She says she plans to write to these people and explain a bit more, either later today or tomorrow at some point.
Sigh. Ah well, she caused quite the stir while she was here! Thanks everyone for letting her have a go, if only for a short time. She enjoyed it greatly, and wishes everyone to know she's very envious that we can all continue onward into the cataclysm and so on.
Sorry to hear.
An updated report for 1290 is up:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showp...&postcount=270
1292 should be happening shortly.
That does suck that she can't play but family has to take priority. Hopefully, she can come back some time. She proved you don't have to have a high-powered super avatar in order to have fun. She certainly taught me a thing or two about role-playing and I was able to develop some things IC that I was stuck on. The tavern won't be the same without her.
Sad to hear Tamur.
She was already adding a great deal to the adventure we are all on together.
I hope everything is ok and there is nothing too serious.
Real life has to take priority.
Cheers
AG

Is Arnold destined NEVER to be able to have a wife??
Kids sprouting around everywhere, it's like a kindergarten all of a sudden.
Oh dear...I guess it's time to go and hack off more heads.
Arnold isn't on his own m8
It's damn frustrating hey.Quote:

This is moving very slowly, guys. With OK having two successive terms, and Ituralde indicating that he's going to assume the Chancellorship in 1300, there's no point in canvassing support for becoming Chancellor. OK is doing a fantastic job in keeping things moving, but it's simply becoming too much for me.
As much as people talk up this catastrophe in 1320, I think it is merely delaying our win by 40 turns. Part of the point of WoTS PBM's is the challenge of having conflicting views about the policy of the faction, while trying to successfully expand/defend against the AI.
We've done an admirable job of keeping this PBM going past 1220, when it was obvious that we weren't going to lose, so I think there's no shame in concluding the game in 1300.
We have:
- Defeated the Milanese
- Made the Pope a puppet
- Crippled France
- Crippled Venice
- Crippled Sicily
- Crippled Hungary
- Conquered the Holy Land
- Defeated the Mongols
- Conquered all of Italy
- Conquered half of France
- Conquered most of the Balkans
- Conquered half of Poland
- XXXXXXXXX amount of florins
- 10 Cardinals in the College
- Had lots of fun.
I see no reason to suddenly end this, there's enough to do for the future of this.
If you can't find the time to play anymore or you don't like this anymore you can always just resign mate, no shame in that.
Personally I would love to reach America or fight the Timurids (I've never come this far on my own before)
I'm just saying that it'll take us another year to reach 1530, and surely it would be more challenging and exciting to start a new game. WoTS only went for 10 months, and this is how long KoTR has gone.
Yes, a new game might be more challenging, but when disaster will strike this will be like a new game, only difference is is that everyone has an avatar.
I believe there are other PBMs trying to run, you can join those as well.
Wait, I'm confused, should I be doing a worse job as Chancellor? :laugh4: I got elected fair and square two times. I didn't get it handed to me on a silver platter either, like the Kaisers.
3/4 of the avatars are unmarried including Matthias, I guess we're celibate warrior monks or something. The topic is well covered ground, but what is odd is that I've gotten marriage offers for the daughters, but no offers of wives to the already existing avatars. Not one.
Can anyone actually remember the last avatar that got married outside of a Princess marriage?
You did a great job and no I can't remember the last marriage outside of a princess.
We did what we had to do from the last diet session and another is coming up. I think it will get very interesting in what we want to do with the game IC and OOC.
If we choose to implement the 'event' as planned, the game will get far more interesting, I assure you.
Are we really only playing this to meet the victory conditions? I thought we were playing to have fun, without any real ending goals.
Well it would be nice if we could reach them, in 1530 or so.
That's definitely true, for me anyway. I was hoping the answer to my question would be that we have no end goal in mind, and therefore can feel free to throw any number of other issues into the mix (like the proto-reformation crisis).Quote:

I don't know how many of you play board games, but there is one called Dark Age of Camelot in which one of the players is a traitor, and works against everyone else. And of course the traitor is my kids' favourite role. I wonder if we could introduce the same idea into KotR, with one of us hotseat-ing an enemy faction each turn --- just one of us, not two or three. Five is right out!
Fritz can't say so in the diet, but that is quite an homage, TinCow. I only hope that I have a story like that about me in the newspaper when I'm gone.
Lothar liked his dad.
Has it been that long already ?Quote:

:balloon2:
He didn't always show it though. I was actually surprised at his eloquent remarks.
As for the game itself - while I believe Ignoramus has a point (and personally I wouldn't mind starting/working on the next), we can probably still keep it going till around the Timurids. I wouldn't go as far as the new world though, as that would be another 100 years post-Timurids (the first and possibly second waves anyway) with really just about nothing to do.
Something that I would intend to correct for the next game is the time events occur, by making the game more fast paced and thus less close to actual history. Possibly add a large element of randomness when some events occur as well to spice the game up.
As for traitor factions, Tamur, it is indeed a nice idea, but it would force us to not be able to fight any defensive battles (due to requiring hotseat activation pre-game even though you only pick 1 faction) as far as I know.
We can however force the game to merge enemy factions into one to fight us for instance (must be done pre game).
So yeah, what's everyone's thought of the post plague era? Is it really worth idling about 100 years (50 turns) just to see the new world? In a new game we can just make it happen earlier without the dead weight in between.
There's been some OOC discussion about creating a 'catastrophe' that will result in the loss of provinces, buildings, and armies. It would significantly weaken us and strengthen our enemies, giving us far more of a challenge (and interesting RP opportunities) than we've had for sometime. I believe econ21 will be speaking about it in more detail around the next Diet session.Quote:

I personally do not want to end this, but I have noticed a certain amount of lethargy from everyone.
It's a pity Olympia had to leave as she was certainly going to add some spice to the situation.
I'd like wait for the Timurids as I believe it will certainly be a challenge for most of the players here...of course some are invincible.
I would not really support a traitor that is not a clear role playing move. Something artificial like the mafia game would not really suit this game in my opinion.
I have not real goal in mind at this point. The game simply provides a back drop for role playing. We have so much legislation and amendments that people can actually play this game as much more than simply MTWII.
My question is...what is the spark that is missing for those that are loosing some momentum?
I think what happens with the pace is what was planned or voted for in the last Diet. In this case if objectives are met and there are no threats then things become idle waiting for the Chancellor's term to end.
We do not have any issues/threats to focus on for the next few turns.
I think we will have to discuss some avenues IC/OOC in the next Diet. I didn't have any objectives in mind only how far can we play the game without "blitzing" for total domination. I am amazed it has been this long and I think there is life still.
It is what we make it or want to make of it.
Well I am personally still enjoying KotR and I think the problem with starting a new one is the fact that there will not be enough characters for everyone to have an avatar, perhaps someone could act as chancellor for a term or two beefore everyone joins just to expand the family tree and stabilise economy?
taking the save btw, shouldn't have upload troubles this time
Arrghhh, it won't upload again! I don't understand this becasue I am participating in two hotseat campaigns and all those saves have uploaded fine, why am I having problems with KotR?
Zip it before you upload it, these saves are bigger
In my opinion, this game is still going strong. Maybe my perception is different because I am still relatively new. But I am already planning out my next avatar. I think there is plenty of life left in this game. If the game is not working out for you, either work with us to change it or take a hiatus. But, asking all of us to quit, so we can start this all over, seems a bit premature at this point. As for there seeming like there is a lull, my theory is that is because so much of this game has moved to PM's. Theres a lot of plotting and planning that goes on in the background. So, while there may seem to be lethargy, a lot of people are planning stories, running secret groups, and plotting future legislation. By my estimation, my avatar is probably in on only 5% of this stuff and it is more than enough to keep me busy. So, there's plenty to plug your avatar into. EO showed that its quite possible to jump in and not only plug yourself in, but make up story threads too.
*edit*
Also, for the new game, I'm against speeding the game up. I don't mind the "idle" 50 turns between big events because we seem to keep making up stuff to fill the time in. This is a creative community here and I have faith we will keep things fresh and fun for a long time.
Heh, the game goes slow from time to time yes.
But then, that's one of the reason I'm going to introduce the non-official rank of Fürst (Prince in other languages). I'll be splitting up Franconia in 2 parts, Saxonia and Prussia, with both a HA. Ansehelm will still be the Duke, and after the Teutonic Army is disbanded he will take command of one of the HA's. Both the Fürsts will more or less have a say over their regions, with Ansehelm ofcourse having a final say.
Next to that they'll be able to both use 1 of the Ducal edicts to their own liking ... Ansehelm will still come forth with them, so they're all fully legal.
This will give something for those who aren't Duke to aim at. So they won't sit there, being a count all of the time, but they can actually get somewhere.
Ofcourse this is also done with the idea of the size Franconia has, in real a Duchy that big would be hard to rule on your own.
Stig, I think that's a good way to add some complexity while still keeping with the Charter. We need more middle ranks in my opinion. We have high ranks (Kaiser, Dukes, Chancellor) and low ranks (Counts, Crusader Counts, Electors). The game has only two middle ranks and they are largely outside of the Ducal power structure. (King and Prince) More would add some spice to Ducal politics. I think Stig's middle ranks are a great idea. I know we agreed to not overhaul the patronage system until the next game but I think its cool that someone is doing this un-officially while keeping it legal.
okay just autoresolve my battle because I ****** up the save, I'll probably post a battle report even if it will be completely innacurate
Bob, did you compress the save file (i.e. .zip or .rar?) or are you trying to upload it as a normal .sav file? For KOTR, uncompressed files are too large for the uploader to handle, they must be compressed or you will get an error.
well I tried to convert it into a .zip file by using a winzip trial but that complately broke the file and my duplicate just never appeared so I've lost the battle data, as I said I'll just let it be autoresolved and post a battle report of what really happened :)
Maybe it created the .zip in a different location than the original save. Try searching your computer for *.zip, that should show you a list of all zip files currently on your HD(s).
no i know where the file is but the winzip program i got wasn't actually winzip is was an extension trial so I thought changing it to compressed in properties and renaming it to a .zip but would be worth a try but after that ruined the file I found that when I dragged the file out of the save folder to the desktop it didn't create a duplicate like it normally does so the file is lost end of story
Sorry you lost your save, Bob the Great.
I've just uninstalled Kingdoms etc and reinstall M2TW 1.2, so I'll pick up the savegame now.
Bob the Great, if you can fit in, feel free to take another shot at the save once you have a working compression utility. Or send the save as an attachment in an email to TC or myself as before. I hate to see your efforts come to nothing.
If that's not viable, get me the casualty stats, and I'll try to fight the battle myself to fit your outcome.

Hey Bob,
I know it can be a little confusing here some screen shots to make sure you are following the right steps. To know what to look for.
From your save folder highlight the save to .zip
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Right click the higlighted file and send to .zip (top of list)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The file will .zip in the save folder. Highlight and cut or copy.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Go to desktop and paste there. that way you can find it quickly to upload the file.

Here is the link to upload.

It took me a few tries to figure it out. Hope it helps.
One other point, Bob: I notice you are running some Kingdoms games. Any save you produce in M2TW with Kingdoms installed will almost certainly not be usable by this PBM. We are still on 1.2. While people with 1.3 can read 1.2 saves, people with 1.2 can't read 1.3 saves. I had to uninstall M2TW and Kingdoms, then reinstall and apply the 1.2 patch before I could fight my battle today. It was not fun.
aww, shucks guys, thanks for the kind words, it means a lot to m...Gerhard. :laugh4: :laugh4:
Are there any avaiable avatars?
econ was saying how Kordula might be married off next turn or so.
wewt!
I hate to be a killjoy, but don't put to much faith in peeking forward a few turns. Game play, for whatever reason, changes the future so to speak. So it may not come to pass.
We don't have any available now, although there is always the optional of a recruitable Bavarian. My advice would be to wait a couple of turns to see if the Bavarian (or the Swabian) woman marries.Quote:

Stig: Is your game still displaying as 1.3 after you reinstalled m2tw (without patching I assume)? If so, did you completely delete your m2tw folder before reinstalling and removed reg entries that remained?
Good point - please can someone without kingdoms or 1.3 try to upload my save?Quote:

Just a note to say, I'll be fighting Fritz' battle about 06 GMT.
Sounds good, I'll see if Kordula marries, and won't really concern myself about an avatar till next diet session, but I'll still be bavarian.Quote:

Good point - I'll put Stuperman down as the 4th Elector of Bavaria so he can still contribute to the IC debates. I am sure Overknight will alert him if a new Bavarian spawns; he should contact Overknight if/when he gets tired of waiting and wants a recruitable general hired.
I'm losing interest, need something to do for me.
Perhaps you could organise the Ball that your Duke has sent invitations for? PM AussieGiant for details.Quote:

Mmmm, ok. OverKnight, autoresolve Fritz' battle please. I could fight it now but with the save taken I'm just going to go get a bit more sleep than my usual four hours.
Go get em Cecil!!!
Get Roadkill knighted also. That would be great. Remember...blood and lots of it for the old war horse!! :)

My lord, what a terrible battle. I lost over four-fifths of the army, and got my first 'Crushing Defeat' in my M2TW career. I'm completely clueless about how to fight the Poles. Edmund gained a half-dozen traits that make him a worse general and a better warrior.
But what's worst is that Wilhelm von Heidelberg was routed, captured, and executed. Christ, I'm sorry Roadkill.

Cecil, an unfortunate defeat, but understandable. The usual imbalanced AI army, and Polish Nobles are hell-spawn.
He can't afford to. He needs all the people he can get. Luckily, RK's avatar popped out a kid so the next generation of Austrians is looking pretty good. That being said, it sucks that RK lost his first avatar right out of the gate. But, this game is getting quite deadly.Quote:

Mother of god!!
Maybe we should just play against the Polish in the next game!!
That puts the Austrian Eastern Front as numero uno on the deadly list.
When are you going to write that up Cecil?
