Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Ferromancer, in descr_strat you forgot to change (or at least it didn't change that in my installation) "campaign imperial_campaign" into "campaign barbarian_invasion". Because of this can_swim does not work.
Beware though that when you change this you need to alter the text files for the campaign descriptions too, because else they won't show up anymore.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Has anyone ever had problems achieving the victory screen with a campaign they switched from rtw.exe to bi.exe with this mod? Just curious about one of my campaigns I thought I had just won...
I don't mind starting a new game, just not sure if I should continue with the one I'm on. :charge:

Ferromancer,
Do you have any plans of implementing Horde ability for Sakae, Sauromatae and (optionally) Pahlava?

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
I know I haven't posted here in a while (busy with other things) but I have addressed a bug brought up above about an entry in desc_strat being "imperial_campaign" instead of "barbarian_invasion". This fix was actually tricky, as a number of other files had to be modified and with the proper encoding. I have also added two new options to the installer: (1) the ability to select alternate brightness settings and (2) the giant trees fix. I will update the first page of this thread shortly to reflect the updates.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
@Ferromancer
Ave mate, good approach
But check hardcoded copy path (c:/program file/activision/rome - total war) for your *.dll file. In case another path for RTW,BI,EB your installer miss it.

The dll path is not hard coded. It uses whatever directory you typed in the installer.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Just added Victory Conditions to the installer after testing them in BI. See first post for more details.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hi Ferromancer it's been a while since I used your installer 0.81 I think.
I've now finished a full Roman campaign in 1.2 using Lz3's mod pack but I want to do a fresh re-install and use you BI installer especially now you've added win conditions and chopped the trees!
However I want to add other mods namely;
City Mod
Forced Diplomacy
Darth's AI formations.
Konny's Allied legions
Gallic helm correction
Do any of thes econflict and if not what is the sequence to install starting with vanilla RTW?
Thanks

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hi, I have the Problem, that during the Instalation of this minimod the programm tells me that a file named EBforBIHelper.dll wich should be in the EB folder is missing. :help:
I also wanted to ask, wheter this mod: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...105242&page=20
Is compatible with your BI mod. :juggle2:
Edit: i can specify my problem now.
If i Install EB 1.1 + 1.2 + the fixes and on top this mod for BI exe, i have the "select an item from the list" bug.
If i first Install the minimod pack, game isnt starting at all. :embarassed: :help:

I've set up the installer so that it makes changes to files line-by-line, so in theory it shouldn't conflict with anything. The only trick is that you have to run my installer last.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
No, i use Windows XP Profesionell.
I have installed:
-rtw 1.5
-BI 1.6
-Alx

-Eb 1.2
-your BI mod
--> if i want to start a campaign --> "please select an item from the list" :furious3:
I have although treid, to Install only EB 1.1 and then your EB for BI version for 1.1 but i got the same problem. :dizzy2:

Another thing, don't use the trivial script. Use the shortcut provided to you by the installer.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
do u mean the shortcut, wich apears on my desktop after Installing the BI mod?
I always use this, because the "EB single player" shortcut wich is in my rome folder is not working with BI CD....
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Okay, I just updated the installer to do extra checks before installing. For instance, it should prompt you if you've picked the wrong BI.exe directory, and make sure the helper DLL is in the right place.
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Yes, now it says me that the BI exe was not found....

Okay, I admit that dialog is just a little confusing. I've made it so that it just doesn't let you click the install button instead of popping up a warning all the time. Try again.

Yes its doing so. After klicking the "ok" Button a lot of times i am able to Install.
the Warning message is: "C/Documents/Desktop/RomeTW-BI.exe was not found.
Please verify your Rome Total War directory exists, and that Barbarian Invasion is Installed"
what can i do now? the BI exe is on my Desktop.....
Edit: if i download the new version, its Installing like it did before without any warning message and with the same "select item from the list" thing.......

Why did you install rome total war and barbarian invasion to your desktop? That would explain a lot of things going wrong.
Here is what you're supposed to do. Since you have windows XP, all you have to do is:
1) Install RTW (just use the default directory)
2) Install BI (just use the default directory)
3) Install the BI patch
4) install EB 1.1 (USE THE DIRECTORY THAT RTW INSTALLED TO IN PROGRAM FILES, something like c:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\, not EB's default directory--that directory is for VISTA users running under high security mode)
5) install EB 1.2
6) Run my installer (just use the default directory. if everything went well, the button is not greyed out)

Huh, I wonder why it looked for it there. No matter, I'm glad it finally worked out for you. In fact, your issue was the same as one a lot of other people had, so I recommend that people give the installer a second chance if there were unable to start a game properly.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hi! Awesome work you've done here!!!
Forgive my ignorance, but...
I am a Vista User. I've been running EB on vanilla for quite some time, and it's been working beautifully. Naturally, I disabled User Account Control (evil incarnate) and gave EB all clearances etc.
So I uninstalled all that recently, and now I'm starting from scratch.
So you're saying that I SHOULD install RTW in Program Files? Or will your BI installer work if I just put RTW in C:/ in my own folder?

Where you install RTW is up to you. Simply point to the path containing your exe when running your installer. It will even warn you if it's the wrong directory. The EB team doesn't recommend using program files for Vista users such as yourself, which is explained here. Of course, you could try installing to that location yourself, I won't stop you :)

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Yes, I had to do a lot of research on EB and vista.
I was just reading the last guy's problems and thought it might cause issues to install outside program files.
I think I got it now though.
And again, thanks for your AWESOME work! May I balloon you?

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Just found this and was all excited over something easy to use for once, except for one thing. The installer won't actually let me choose a different destination or install to the default. The "ok" and "install" buttons are greyed out no matter what I do. Anything I can do to fix this?

You must choose the correct directory where BI exe is located or else the installation will not let you continue. It's also smart enough to know if you're trying to pick a new directory that doesn't have it, and won't let you click okay until you find it :)

Where exactly is BI.exe exactly within the BI files? I can't find it although that might be because I repaired BI instead of reinstalling it. I'll try that and then will attempt to use this mod again :)
EDIT: Ok, I found it and installed it, but it tells me that MSS32.DLL was not found. What now?

Sounds like your BI install is hosed, though you may be able to gracefully recover by following the instructions on this thread.

So I just tried installling this with Steam, but when I opened RTW and the Barbarian invasion, everything looked the same?

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Dear sir, thank you for your wonderful job and the installer works fine with my campaign game. Nevertheless, like original EB, we lose some units in custom game of single player. Is there any solution could add multi player mod? I would appreciate for that~:beam:

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Great installer - thanks again ferromancer. I've tried a little EB with your EB for BI installer and separately with Alexander.
The Alexander battlefield AI seems a bit better (though thats relative - it's still not very smart, just doesnt throw generals into the middle of an enemy army just to kill skirmishers at the start of the battle) and it does seem to combine armies at the campaign level before attacking.
With BI the campaign AI does seem a bit more aggressive and the Romans did invade Corsica by sea (though only with 2 units) and the shield wall is nice, but the battlefield AI isnt very great so i think (not sure yet) i prefer it with Alexander - though no-one seems to have made an installer for EB with Alexander that's even half as easy to install as your one for EB with BI.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hmm, I'm unable to start new campaigns, it states: Select/Choose and item from the list :inquisitive:
I can play previous saves though, and behold on my third turn Carthage landed an army on Corsica, two turns later Rhodos was invaded by Pontus
So yeah naval invasions are frequent now, but how can I start new campaigns?

How did you install the game?
It's supposed to be in this order; one of the causes I've read for that error is if you use the patches for RTW either before or after installing BI. Don't know if that's the only cause.
-RTW
-BI
-1.6 Patch
-EB 1.1
-EB 1.2
-Optionally any other mod
-This mod
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
I think it went:
Rome
EB 1.1
EB 1.2
BI
BI 1.6
This mod
I read back a few pages and it something about editing the descr_strat folder can also cause this :inquisitive:
Oh I don't know
I'm happy to start campaigns on vanilla and continue them on BI, as night battles aren't all that important to me
I really don't want to have to uninstall everything and start from scratch
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Thanks for this mod, I used it before without any problems, but now I've got one.
I installed:
RTW:GOLD
EB 1.1
EB 1.2
This mod.
And when I select a campaign to play and press the next button, it gives me a CTD without error messages, just a clean desktop, what should I do?
And yes, I'm using Vista
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Just did a brand new install of RTW, BI 1.6, EB 1.1, EB1.2 and finally your patch and I cannot get past the part where it says select from the list. Today is the first time installing any of those on my new harddrive. It keeps giving error line 31 column 1 unexpected start date of campaign when game closes. Any solutions for this?
I am using XP Service pack 2 and I am installing all on my second harddrive under E:\games\rome total war.
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
So, I've been happily playing EB 1.2 for vanilla RTW for some time, then find out I can do it for BI through this. Problem is, I now cant start any new campaigns (message saying "select item from list" within the game), it crashes to desktop when I try to start a historical battle, I can load my existing campaigns but it crashes to desktop after battles (campaign map works fine), and in custom battles I can get up to selecting armies but when I move to the next screen it in fact takes me back to the previous one.
Any ideas what the problem might be? I use XP SP3.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hello everybody. I apologize for not replying sooner. For those still having problems with the installer, and appear to be installing things in the right order, I have a possible solution for you. When running the installer, keep an eye out for the scrolling text box that posts messages regarding the installation. Copy and paste these messages on here--that might give a better clue as to what's going on. I have some theories, but they can't be confirmed unless I have some technical information.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
It appears a files are failing to copy over from one local directory to another, but not files extracted from the installer--those copy over fine. You aren't running a limited account or running vista with User Account Control are you?
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Im using an XP SP3 admin account, so it shouldnt be a problem with that.
Take me through the install order; it shouldnt be an issue there but I may have misread something.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Short and simple, from somebody who installed successfully:

It's supposed to be in this order; one of the causes I've read for that error is if you use the patches for RTW either before or after installing BI. Don't know if that's the only cause.
-RTW
-BI
-1.6 Patch
-EB 1.1
-EB 1.2
-Optionally any other mod

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hi,
I'm having a problem with EB1.2 with BI - I hope someone can help.
I installed as instructed but did the EB1.2 updates manually before installing the BI setup exe. No other mods.
So the problem is as follows - when I capture a town/city if I click on the recruitment tab I crash to desktop.
Running under XP SP3. I've previously been running EB1.2 with RTW with no issues.
Thanks in advance.

Don't do the EB1.2 updates manually :)

Thanks Ferromancer - is it a known bug?

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
I have tried the install both ways now. First try I installed
RTW
BI
1.6
EB 1.1
EB 1.2
BI Mod
and that failed as the game would not allow me to choose a faction because of errors with year. I then tried
RTW
1.3
1.5
BI
1.6
EB 1.1
EB 1.2
BI Mod
and again got the same problem. I am running XP Service pack 2 as an admin. Soon installing Windows 7 64bit so I can't imagine what problems I will have with just EB soon.

Why not wait awhile for Windows 7? If it is anything like vista, you will have your hands full of problems and wasted RAM. XP is a solid OS. I see no reason to switch, unless you just have to have more "eye" candy.
If you have alex, go with the mod pack. Very stable. I had no problems with the following process:
RTW-Gold > Alex > EB 1.1 > 1.2 > official fixes > minimod pack (3.1) > LZ3's script adaptation > phalanx mod > RS textures mod > naval strat mod > Lysander's sihunet formations adaptations > EOM 2.1b V.T. Marvin's Adaptation

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
The new computer I built has 6 gigs of RAM but XP only supports 4 so I have 2 not being utilized. I still have 1 more channel available so I could cheaply add another 2 gigs if I wanted. I do have Alex so I might just try that route.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
If I have the mini mod pack can I still use this?

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hello!
Well, I have some problems with installing EB for BI. My problems are the following https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...30#post2377930
Any suggestions about how to install it correct? Order? And how to install pathes correct? RTW 1.3 then 1.5 then BI then 1.6 then EBs and mod?

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hi Ferromancer,
Is there any way to set EB for BI to windowed mode? It seems to increase my performance by something like 50%, but for some reason I cannot change it to that setting.
Thanks

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
I just did a thorough testing of my installer with EB 1.2 with different options, etc. and found no problems. If you could please copy and paste the text from the installer's output, I could help more with your difficulties. With one person it appeared that NO files were copied successfully from one directory to another, even though the installer was able to do other things without a problem. My impression is that perhaps there is an over-agressive antivirus/antispyware that is preventing files from being modified or copied. I recommend temporarily stopping your antivirus for the duration of the installer, and then turning it back on.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hi
I wanted to say I love this mod, thanks for all the hard work you put into it! I was wondering if you could include konny's character traits mod so my generals will actually be able to gain command points, again thanks!

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Hello chaps,
I have briefly searched this thread and I didn't find any similar problems to the one I am having.
Firstly I have RTW Gold Edition and followed the correct steps to install this mod. When the game loads it up says 1.1 in the bottom left corner...which I found strange as I installed EB 1.2 correctly? Anyways, the custom and historical battles work fine, but I cannot start a campaign with any faction other than the Saka. When I click another faction (i.e. Rome) it goes to desktop, minimises EB and opens 'Active Movie Window'. It's just a blank black screen...which can be closed down, then reappears when you click EB to maximise. Has anyone else experiences this problem? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and I keep encountering this problem.
I'm not sure if this helps but I am running Vista, I was always playing EB on the normal RTW disc but since I bought the Gold Edition I thought I'd try this mod.
Many thanks,
SV

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Cheers guys!
I tried to install Alex engine, but I can't seem to start it as a bug occur and I've a error message, so I deleted everything and re-installed everything with BI, hoping that things were more easy BUT NO! It just can't start neither and every time i press the shortcut I just have that message that's pop up :
Failed to copy the file 'D:\RTW\EB\sp game edu backup\map.rwm to 'D:\RTW\EB\Data\world\maps\base\map.rwm' (error 2 the system cannot find the file specified)
It pisses me off as I'd like to be able to try a new engine... thanks for any help pals
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
I had the same thing.
Use Search on ur computer to find map.rwm. Then copy it to the folder "D:\RTW\EB\sp game edu backup\". Then computer will copy it from there (e 'D:\RTW\EB\sp game edu backup\map.rwm) where it should be but it doesn't, to whatever it wants and it would be OK.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Thanks a lot, I've no more the error! now, as the 3 fates seems to hate me, when i click on the icon, I've no error, but they don't recognise the cd... Do I play with Rome cd or BI cd? or should I change the target of the EB Single Player icon?
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Look to ur desktop or Run menu here u should see Europa Barbarorum for Barbarian Invasion icon with BI picture-icon. Also have you install 1.6 update on BI mod before? You should.
Or do you mean that after update 1.6 computer doesn't recognize the soft and ask to insert cd to ur drive? I have license disk, but after updating it asked me to do it. So I just find crack on the net. For updated version of course.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Could anybody tell me how to properly install this for steam (Rome - total war gold edition) with following mods (problem is: I can't install the mini-mod pack, it gives me a script error)
- Some trait changes
- Phalanx mod
- Force diplomacy
- AI Battle Formation
- Spoils of victory
The biggest problem is: I can't start the normal BI with a shortcut, I can only make a shortcut to Rome - TW gold via steam.
When I want to play the normal BI I need to double click on Rome - total war gold in steam, then I can choose between RTW and BI. So how can I change the parameter of the BI shortcut to start EB?
Edit: I think I got it working :).

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
happy new year guys :beam:
i installed this mod in the following order
1.RTW
2.RTW-BI
3.patched it to 1.6
4.EB 1.1
5.EB 1.2
6.this mod
i tested my previous EB 1.2 saves and they are compatible, the new campaign is working well and i have the new formations. u have not tested the night battles yet. i have one problem though, when i go to custom battle i can't see all the units available, especially the more generic units specific for each faction (like velites, principes, triari) for the romans or the reformed phalanx for the makedones are missing. well, they are not missing actually, sinse if i let the CPU pick my army they are there, even though the are without icons. but i can' see them in the recruitment screen. this happenes only in custom battle. can something be done about it?
thanx in advance :2thumbsup:

You should use the edu.txt in the "mp game backup folder" to play custom battle as per EB instruction.
The opposite is actually happening to me as I can see reformed phalanx for Macedon and all reform legions for Rome in custom. Maybe it's because I have the mp edu loaded before I installed this neat installer? OK nvm. Just found out the installer doesn't have edu for multiplayer which means no special abilities for custom battle.
If it's as easy as adding "shield_wall" to the units I'd be glad to do it. Just waiting for the OK(interest) from you guys and confirmation that it's possible to do with little room for error. I've little experience.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Cool mod.
I used to be an EB fanatic back in the day, but I haven't played for a bit. I saw you mod, and I have some free time so I decided to give it a go again.
What difficulty do you recommend playing on?
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
.
H/M works fine for me.
.
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
With EB, I tread lightly, so usually it's only M/M for me [but if it's vanilla RTW or EGM or AmazonTW I go for H/H] Sorry for bringing non-EB here; I just want to emphasize my being careful with EB compared to others, because, for me, EB is more authentic and more dangerous to my troops.

Edit the preferences.txt file and change whichever item you want from false to true or true to false. Or you can re-run the installer.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
May I just jump in here without having time to read the entire thread...
How is this installed? I have EB up and working on RTW..
Can I install BI over the top even though EB is installed now? Then I run your installer?
Thanks
Update: I reinstalled totally using instructions from this thread.
RTW
BI
BI1.5
EB1.1
EB1.2
EB BI mod
And I can't launch a campaign I just get something like Select from a list...
Tried twice reinstalling and still..
Aaaaaah
!

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
Where do I insteall the mod exactly please? In EB or anywhere else? meaning just in the eb directory like for example... C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\EB???
Thanks for your help in advance...

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
EDIT:
my question lost its importance.
-
Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
I am also having the "select item from list" problem. It is quite irksome, as I'm certain I'm installing everything in the correct order, and that there is no anti-virus software preventing copying from occurring. Here is the text from the setup window. Additionally, it is not the fact that the current installation is in Program Files: I have tried it in other locations as well with the same result. I would really appreciate any help you can give, as I'm really fond of EB and incorporating the fixes in this minimod would just be fantastic.
Thanks

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
HELP PLEASE!
some days ago i transferred the directory EB-BI from one HD to another HD (its name is D:\Rome total war-EB)
but then, when i started it it seems to have lost the mod BI.
I explain:
the introducing video is the original of RTW (it begins with carthaginian infantry marching....)
the units like hastati and principes don't have the shield_wall ability.
moreover, when i start it, the PC gives me this advice:
failed to copy the file 'D:\Rome - Total War-EB\EB\sp game edu backup\map.rwm' to ' rome- total war-EB\EB\data\world\maps\base\map.rwm' error 2: impossible to find the specified file (this last sentence is in italian).
what to do? if i reinstall B-BI mod, it will be save-game compatible? will it work?
desperate....

Re: Problems with the New installer for EB with BI
:help: Hello Ferromancer.:help:
I just get excited with the idea of play EB with BI engine. Then I tried and failed. I used the installer that you provide. I was able to enter the menus of EB after the Huns video of BI, and so on... But when I tried to create a new campaign, or a custom battle, I was sent back to the menus and nothing happens.
Well, I checked and my BI was version 1.4. And I read in some place that the EB for BI installer needs BI patch 1.6. So I uninstalled everything and started again from the begining.
Before continue, here's a quick description of my pc:
I use XP, and the machine is a Pentium IV 2.2GB, Motherboard Asus, 2GB Ram, A suficient video card (cant remember which now, and Im not in my computer) and suficient disk space. I'm pretty sure of that cause I've played Rome TW (1.5) and Barbarian Invasion (didnt had notice the version) for over a year and everything works well. I beggin to play Alexander to, but unistalled due to free some disk space to other things..
Now I have tried many combinations of installation and just cant update BI to 1.6. Every time I try to apply the patch (both 1.5 or 1.6, whatever...) I receive a message that "this patch only updates from 1.3 to 1.5" and gives me an adress to download the 1.3 patch. And when I go to options in BI, the version number displayed is 1.4.
I tried:
- RTW 1.0 > 1.1 > 1.2 > 1.3 > 1.5 > BI > and the 1.6 cannot be installed
- RTW 1.0 > 1.1 > 1.2 > 1.3 > BI > and either 1.5 or 1.6 cannot be installed
- RTW 1.0 > 1.3 > BI > and the same again
- RTW 1.0 > BI > and the same again
- I even try to install 1.3 and 1.5 after the BI but it became a mess..
In time, I use cracks, but in all times I didnt cracked the game. I was expecting patch and install everything first.
Well, there's pretty much nothing left to do now according to what I know about, so... please, Help Me!!!:help:
Thanks!!!

Re: Problems with the New installer for EB with BI
Reform problem?
I'm playing as romans and it's 241 BC, I already hold Segesta, Mediolanum, Patavium, Bononia, Lilibeo, Messana and Syracuse but nothing happens!
Should I wait more? The reforms randomly takes places in the next seasons?
The EB Faq says:
-At least year 242
-Hold 2 of these cities (Segesta, Mediolanum, Patavium, Bononia)
-Hold 2 of these cities (Lilibeo, Messana, Syracuse)
This had being change?

The reform finally happened.

Re: New installer for Europa Barbarorum with Barbarian Invasion
i beg again for help here.
i installed EB-BI but it requests me the map.rwm file.
and when i run it, the demo is the old one (with the carthaginians marching...) and the units still don't have the BI abilities.
i reinstalled this submod several times (i also reinstalled completely new RTW-EB), but still does not work.
what to do?
did anybody experience the same situation? already answered?
is somewhere available another map.rwm file to paste?
