In, Arrest Reenk Roink.
:laugh4:
Just sayin'. Hehehehe.
All I saw was that spoiled smiley.
/returns to lurk mode
That's really all you need, isn't it?
:laugh4:
Reenk is recognizeable by smiley face now.
GeneralHankerchief is correct. Reenk Roink was the serial killer!!!!
Wow. Okay I admit this one might have been hard. However, there were three major clue paths which all lead to Reenk Roink, in case the main clue was indecipherable. You may want to check out these clues. It's pretty interesting.
Okay, here's how it goes.Quote:
Day One:
Leet Eriksson was killed by a bag of pearls flung at high velocity.
The Serial Killer left a clue:
Does the number ten mean anything to you? I have between 1,000 and 5,000 posts.
The letter N starts you off with the hangman clue path. Reenk Roink has two N's in his name.
A bag of pearls. This is the unusual method of death. it was also the only death which did not involve a band name. Why? Pearl was part of a band name. Pearl Jam.
How does Pearl jam relate to Reenk Roink? Google "Pearl Jam Reenk Roink" and you will find out. :eyebrows: Ever wonder what Reenk Roink means? That's what it means. :2thumbsup:
ten. The number ten. Well... not so much the number ten. How about the album, Ten?
Pearl Jam's Ten album. Relates specifically and only to Reenk Roink. With the letter N and the post count, if you knew the trivia regarding Reenk's name, this was solveable on round one. But I didn't seriously believe anyone would. Very difficult if you don't know the obscure origin of "Reenk Roink".
Post count between 1,000 and 5,000 helps you narrow down suspects when combined with other clues.
The letter E continues the hangman path of clues.Quote:
Day Two:

Splitpersonality died because he couldn't manage his split enz.
Beskar engaged in a bitter feud, but survived the duel. He was given five for fighting.
shlin28 was assaulted, but would continue to shine on down.
Beefy187 was tossed into a drowning pool, but his death wasn't in the script. He got his nickel back.
Day Two Summary:
Splitpersonality died.
All the other detectives survived.
Day Two Murders:
Kagemusha raged against the machine and was promptly destroyed.
Ironside was thrown inside an iron maiden.
woad&fangs was bitten by a white snake.
The Serial Killer left a clue:
In case you're wondering, I'm still alive.
On day two, all the murders involve band names.
Split Enz
Five for Fighting
Shinedown
Drowning Pool
The Script
Nickelback
Rage against the Machine
Iron Maiden
Whitesnake
Pearls, plus band names.... plus "I'm still alive"... gets you thinking about:
1. Music
2. Bands in particular
3. Pearl jam in particular
4. The song "alive" by Pearl Jam, on the album "Ten"
5. Which leads you to the rare CD clue.... Rare Pearl Jam Ten album, Reenk Roink. :2thumbsup:
Now, here comes the fun. The murder victims are all players of Capo de Tutti Capi. Specifically, the mafia at first.
That leads you down the third clue path, the Capo III players path. Again, in case you didn't get the Pearl Jam clues, the Capo clues and the letter clues and the post count clue.

Beefy187 was out making an arrest, but he only found some sick puppies. He nursed them back to health, and he is still alive, miraculously
Day Three Summary:
Johnhughthom died.
All the other detectives survived.
Day Three Murders:
FactionHeir was hit over the head by a skillet, just after he joined the fray.
Scottishranger was trapt in a pit of boiling acid.
Veronica "Trouble" Toluso was kind of like Alice, in chains. Only deader.
Crazed Rabbit would not be a survivor.
GeneralHankerchief found out the hard way that he was allergic to red hot chili peppers.
discovery1 was murdered by someone wielding both guns n' roses.
The Serial Killer left a clue:
Oh, I.... oh... I'm still alive.

Band names:
The theory of a deadman
Sick Puppies
Skillet
The Fray
Trapt
Alice in chains
Survivor
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Guns N' Roses
Alive clues:
Beefy's clue mentions the word "alive", and the Serial Killer clue is literally "Oh, I... oh.... I'm still alive", which are lyrics from the song "Alive" by Pearl Jam. Which is more obvious a clue, Alive leads you to the album Ten by Pearl Jam, which starts to link all the clues together. All you need to know now is that it's a CD and it's rare.
N, E, O, R....Quote:

38 civilian casualties.
Seven detectives died.
Marginal victory for the town.... :sweatdrop:
Personal victory to GeneralHankerchief.
And you know what? I'm going to award Awesome Serial killer victory to Reenk Roink
for only being caught by a dead guy after 6 days, 45 bodies later. :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:
By the skin of your teeth, detectives.... there weren't that many active, talkative ones left.
Bleh, I got confused and stopped thinking after a bit :sheepish:
I think Meth uses that smiley more though. Eh. Will there be more serial killers?
Yes, but I would need to think of a good Serial Killer and also a good clue path for him or her.
NEW RULES
Ok. Now that we have gotten a feel for the game, it's time to up the ante. There will be something every one of the murder victims have in common. Remember, there's only so many members of the .org, and I'm not going to be digging through the massive amount of 200 post-count and below members to find more victims. The amount of victims killed per night relates to how large the victim pool is. If there's only a few people meeting the criteria, then there will only ever be a few victims. If there's a larger victim pool, then it will start off with more victims and it will increase exponentially every day until they are all gone.
1. When the pool of victims is depleted, the Serial Killer will roll a six sided die and take out that many remaining detectives. Who those detectives are will be determined by random.org.
So it is now possible for the Serial Killer to win the game outright.
2. Any 24-hour phase where there are no accusations or arrests will also result in a Serial Killer victory.
Typically you'll be given 5 to 6 days to safely solve the case. After a week, prepare to die. Please be aware of these changes. Are you ready? :holmes:
Day One:
Gaius Scribonius Curio was killed when he ate a poisoned mushroom.
Byzantine Knight died when a flickering monitor was dropped on his head.
julius caesar the first was killed by the giant's knife.
The Serial Killer has left a clue:
Bwahahaha.... I'll destroy your whole world with the Genesis device.
edit: Posts between 1,000 and 5,000
Uh, let's go with Accuse: Chaotix.
Accuse: Demon of Light
Arrest: Ibrahim
Day Two:
Retaliation:
Ichigo was shot in the head by the BFG 9000.
Ichigo died.
Everyone else survived.
Day Two murders:
Motep was exploded by the ASMD Shock Rifle.
Sarathos was shot by the M1 Garand.
The Lemongate was blasted by the Hand Cannon.
MarcusAureliusAntoninus was blown apart by the Super Shotgun.
Mikeus Caesar was frozen by the Ice Beam.
Reenk Roink was blown apart by the Cerebral Bore.
Aemilius Paulus was impaled by the Master Sword.
Hurin Rules was hacked to pieces by the Blades of Chaos.
TevashSzat was blasted to bits by the menacing Death Egg.
The Serial Killer has left a clue:
I'm feeling mighty with my brass knuckles.
Ah wait, didn't see the difference between accuse and arrest.
Arrest: Chaotix
I guess I picked a clue set that you were all too familiar with, Congrats on getting two in a row, Inspector Hankerchief.
GeneralHankerchief is correct. Chaotix was the serial killer.
The hangman letter: HQuote:

edit: Posts between 1,000 and 5,000
Post count 1,000 to 5,000
Victim clues:
Gaius, Knight, and JC all have similar style avatars to Chaotix.
Murder clues:
poisoned mushroom is a reference to Super Mario Brothers, the lost levels.
flickering monitor is a reference to the item boxes in the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games.
Giant's knife is a reference to the Legend of Zelda series of games.
The Sonic reference matches Chaotix because "Team Chaotix" were characters in the Knuckles Chaotix game.
Serial Killer clue:
Bwahahahaha in Comic Sans MS font is a reference to the Council of Villains game where I played Bowser, hosted by Chaotix.
Genesis is a reference to the Sega Genesis. Chaotix is a Sega trademarked character.
From these, GeneralHankerchief was able to solve the case on the first round, really. Just forgot to arrest, not accuse. He automatically gets at least second place for the first correct accusation.
Hangman letters: T, H.Quote:

The Serial Killer has left a clue:
I'm feeling mighty with my brass knuckles.
Murder clues:
BFG 9000 is a Doom reference. The murder theme is video game weapons.
All the other murders are also video game references.
Blades of Chaos is a less than subtle hint.
Death Egg refers to Dr. Robotnik's flying Death Star-like battle station, another reference to the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
Serial Killer clue:
Mighty the Armadillo and Knucles the Echidna are other starring characters in the Knuckles' Chaotix game.
Easy peasy lemon squeezie.
A job well done... only one detective dead and a relatively short list of victims.Oh, and I'm no longer announcing the failed murders. This way if you make the correct accusation, it's not blatantly obvious when you aren't attacked the next day. The rules were otherwise pretty broken. But you still retain total immunity to being killed by that serial killer if you randomly guess correctly on the accusation, and then arrest the wrong person.
Overwhelming Victory for the town,
and a personal victory for GeneralHankerchief.
-----
It's one of the benefits of accusing rather than arresting. :2thumbsup:
Okay, on to a new round... and a new Serial Killer.
Man, I feel like such a freeloader.
Congratulations GH!
It's not fair to have GH play this, he has literally seen and interacted with too much of the Orgahs, especially the Frontroom/Gameroom and the Throne Room. I told GH straight up in chat 3 years ago or so the origin of my username and yet he has seen my posting style so much he got it from a smiley. :laugh4:
I still need to tweak the rules a little... I'd like to encourage "making a case" against the arrested parties. Actual law enforcement don't just run around arresting randomly; they have to have a reason. Well, that's the theory anyway. :laugh4:
I need to figure out how to reward case-building in this game. I was thinking something along the lines of.... arrests do not work unless you correctly link one of the actual clues to the correct murderer. Correctly identifying incriminating evidence should be how you make the arrest. It's also satisfying to state your case and have no one be able to refute it.
I wish I could make it so the other detectives might even get some kind of brownie points for refuting bad cases. I know there's a way to do it but I need to figure out how to make it both fun and fair, and retain the spirit of the game that we have running now.
:juggle2: Ah hosting... so many challenges, so little time.
Player and bystander input is welcome on improving the game.
You could need one piece of evidence to make an accusation, two to make an arrest. Whether other players could use the same evidence for their accusations/arrests I'm not sure, perhaps not until the player who pointed to the evidence first is killed?
I like your case rewarding idea Atpg, and john's suggestion seems to be a good way to implement it. I was going to go and type /in and point out that Chaotix would never like Genesis as much as Nintendo and so with all the video game related deaths it must be him but apparently everyone else got the clues first. :wall: :beam:
He would have been the only one that I'd have gotten early in this game too (aside from myself of course - the first clues were a dead giveaway but I did have some trouble with all the bands... I was like, I don't listen to a lot of these! :laugh4:).
How quickly would you have gotten yourself, Reenk? :beam:
Taking the post count/letters from the name out of the game (maybe start doing it on day 5 or so) would encourage different cases being built up and less of making up a list of candidates and then thinking up a case.
edit: though that obviously makes it a lot harder on you to think up various clues...
The day 1 clue. The 'pearls' initially passed over my head because I'm not a very careful reader, but the mention of 'ten' with the bold and underline caught my eye. Then looking back at pearl... I killed fiz too! :embarassed:
The thing that made it weird was that there were other clues that were obvious, but they were mixed in with bands that I really don't listen to (aside from AIC and GNR :2thumbsup: maybe some others). Good on you for looking it up too, I get asked that too many times... :laugh4:
Here's the thing about the letter clues;
If I picked a Serial Killer that you've never heard of, and knew nothing about, out of the .org's thousands of members, it would take forever to solve the game and you'd all end up dead.
The letter clues are like a last-ditch effort to make the case solvable when you're really stumped. If you wish I can remove the post count clue, though you have to admit, it just makes it that much harder to weed out candidates.
The post count clue and the letter clues are designed such that if you THINK you know the answer, you can have one or two last lines of defense to stop yourself if you are wrong. Much like a police detective might cross off a suspect because the blood spatter at the scene of the crime is of a different blood type... or perhaps DNA evidence clears them... etc. Perhaps they had an alibi, too?
Basically, it catches you in some cases from having a bad case. But it's obviously not totally effective, as many suspects will match in post count range and in various letters.
I like these clues, and these are the measure which prevents me as the game host from picking clues that are too hard or too obscure, because there will always be letter and post count clues which eventually solve the case... though based on just those alone, you're more likely to die due to the Serial killer getting you. These clues make it solvable (technically) even without further clues by deduction and a lucky guess. If I narrow the suspects down to about 30 people out of thousands and thousands, then there are enough of you to "lucky guess" the Serial Killer. Then the additional clues along the way make it so you could exhaustively narrow it down.
But it's hard to reduce the suspect list to a manageable level. And that's why following the other clue leads gives you an advantage over the other detectives who haven't solved those clues. The competition is in solving it faster with fewer leads, or at least personally narrowing down your own suspect list to make educated guesses good enough to possibly win.
Yeah... basically I was just trying to get an overall theme of music in general, and then get people thinking "band names" and then get them thinking "okay, band names... but which band am I looking for?"Quote:

I guess you either made it too easy, ATPG, or I misjudged how easily others would pick up on the reference. (That's right, I'm a volunteer serial killer :clown:)
Ah, well. Maybe next time. It was probably Council of Villains that pushed it over the edge, I didn't take that into account.
