It may seem counter-intuitive, but I'd have to choose "Life without Freedom".

"Freedom without Life" is not freedom at all (not to mention no life at all). It is no freedom at all, because nothing challenges it. Having total liberty, without the constraints/context of human life makes that freedom uncomparable to anything-anyone else.

Whereas "Life without Freedom", although onerous, probably brutal, and likely short, at least offers me, the human, an opportunity to TAKE my freedom. To throw off the shackles of whatever-whoever it is that keeps me un-free.

That struggle might make me dead before my time, but at least it presents me with a choice (struggle to take my freedom vs move about quietly to continue breathing longer). The "freedom without life" option does not provide that.

"Live Free or Die!" as the Vermonters say. :)
