It's a general qualm, really.

I just think that it's your character, why should someone else be deciding what you say or do? How can they even determine how you'd respond to their questions or actions? Thankfully, nobody has really done that in relation to my character yet; I didn't mind the tendrils or nightmarish visions because they furthered the storyline, and nobody's been putting words into Tawariell's mouth just yet.

Raina is a different matter, but I can discuss her characterisation with Seon so he can perfect her when Allie/Raina converse.

I thought that I'd elaborate that this isn't a problem per se, just something that I've picked up on; for the record, I think that this post from DiY is fantastic, definitely the way to go if you want to be encorporating the actions/words of other characters in your posts.

He really encapsulates Alyssa's attitude and battle prowess without taking DE's character and determining everything she does, while the post is still all about Guantano, leaving DE room to respond and perhaps elaborate on Alyssa's thought process before she fired the second arrow. T'is a great post. :3

I can see what Secura means. You should pay attention to the opening post; TLD stated that it's allowed to coordinate with other players what happens with their characters, sort of like what Seon and Flufffy did in the beginning, I think. Otherwise, be very careful about assuming behaviour... So far, I think Secura's the only one who's felt stepped on her toes, but... I'd be angry if someone did the same to my character. The point of this is not a railroaded hack-and-slash. We should not necessarily bump into the main plot at once (as far as we can avoid it, I mean it's enveloping the land) - sure, it would affect our characters, but I don't think such a gathering of people would just come out and go "hey we should save the world" right away... Do I make sense? I don't want this to be like Neverwinter Nights in that no matter what kind of character you are you are forced into the main plotline and to "fight the bad guys".

Now that you mention it, visor was there anything wrong with how I portrayed your character earlier?

Rufus doesn't care about the world. He cares about himself, and now to an extent, Glungard.

Who says I will fight the bad guys? :P

I didn't expect Glungard to carry Thomas.

He seems a bit... too eager the way you portray him. (IMO)

Oh yes, I agree on that too, which is why Tawariell and Raina were going to depart from the little gathering in the woods; there's no current character motivation for them to stay around such a large group, particularly as they all appear to be magic practitioners in some form or another.

I guess I'm just a bit 'gah' in seeing Raina's portrayal, but that's perhaps my own fault for not elaborating on the aistari particular well; I can talk this over with Seon so he gets her behaviour down to a 't'.

Exactly as been said here it's a thing of coordination. Seon and fluffy did this very well, planning their encounter in PM before writing it out in the storyline, you can plan dialogues this way so you don't have to do one-line posts where a person responds. I've put words into other character's mouth a bit in this storyline too, although nothing drastic, I think I let Drax nod and say his name once... It's difficult because you want to proceed on the one hand but you also don't want to "take over" someone else's character.

I usually posted here afterwards, asking if anyone wanted something changed, for example with the ambush on Rufus just a few posts ago. I hope that's fine, I assumend they would put down their weapons and come along... of course they could have acted different but they didn't have much of a choice that's why I did it...

There is definitely more "Posting for others" in this RPG than I am used to so it might be a good idea to keep in touch with each other and plan a bit and if it doesn't work any other way just go ahead and do a rather short post and wait for the response...

Honestly, I've found it hard to think of what the character's would do without thinking "what would I do?" Thomas is easy to write for as he's pretty much my author avatar (and yeah I know I'm going overboard on the special powers, I'll work on that) and Gilford's abit one dimentional. Rufus I thought of as acting alot like bronn from Game of thrones for some reason and I found it hard not to make glungurd speak like "small man gave glungurd apple, me like small man".

Rufus would probably put his weapons down. Then kick Thomas. :P

Well what I tried is do identify what these gus value... FOr Rufus there's probably not much more than his own life but that's something. It means that under the given circumstances he put down his weapons as he doesn't have a deathwish or anything of the like...

Visor, if my char asks for Rufus' name will he give it to him? Just for my next post ^^

Hmm, I think that overall, there's no problem putting words in other player characters' mouths, if its just a short blurb or if its just playful banter, as long as one stays clear of characterizing the other fellah in a manner that he/she/it hasn't been portrayed as before.

However, there's still room for flexibility, and if one isn't sure whether it crosses a line or not, what I thought was the best way to proceed was to read previous IC posts and the background story of the character in question.

In any case, I remain wary of linking up and traveling in a big group to save the world. Perhaps until the characters in question are convinced of the dire necessity (probably somewhere closer to the end) could such an action be taken. Best to ask I suppose.

Fluffy, do you want us to wait up for you as the learned professor? I'd estimate at most 2 scenes (arrival included) before Guantano/Alyssa reach Leon and the library/study in question (unless they get sidetracked of course, but with no demons yet I'd be hard pressed to come up with anything to seriously deviate them from their course).

On a random note, it seems like our story of Lassara remains in perpetual daylight :tongue:

WEll our group is way into night 1 already ;) So you guys need to speed things up a bit :P

Just FYI, whenever it is Meghghan actually catches up with any of you, feel free to write as much dialogue for her as you want. She's not a particularly complex character.

She can pretty much pop up anywhere now. Anyone got room for one more? :grin2: I think time-wise I'm about level with the Alain/Drax team, but she can always turn up later (she doesn't have to fall on top of you).

@Secura: I haven't read the post yet but from your post here it seems that it doesn't go well, in that case I'd suggest fluffy edits his post, esp. since it's true, there's ben a lot of marching around and stuff like that with your group so it could easily be nightfall... and the groups don't have to be completely "timed" - it's just something to keep in mind when you wanna meet characters that are somewhere else...

I don't think this poses much of a problem.

We can just tell Fluffy to delete the implied part in parentheses, and then we are right back where we were before.

Then the rest of the post works. You hear what Morangul's saying about sticking around, decide not to if that is how you are so inclined, and run off into the woods without looking back. Kyran can still decide whether or not to tag along. Frijyk is probably going to go with Morangul and Alaria, as he sees it as an opportunity to make himself stronger and more capable.

Though I must admit I'd be sad if us Happy Tree Friends could no longer be friends any more...

OK, I just read the post and I think it's easy to solve.. just consider whatever fluffy wrote in parentheses as non-existent so the last sentence Morangul speaks is that about getting things sorted out and he'll tell you all he knows... Now your character can respond any way she wants and there's been no fast forward in time

Yeah, when I re-read the post it seemed that if one ignored the OOC part, then it wouldn't be a problem to continue from there, and it leaves Fluffy some scope for storytelling when he returns.

Dunno. There are probably enough Happy Tree Friends without adding even more people. She might be a bit out-of-place in the testosterone cauldron that is the Capital Crew. And 'I am hungry' probably rules out landing in the desert with Samson and Limira.

So maybe she ends up in Leon. At some point she might be able to meet Alyssa and Guantano there... that is where you're all going, right?

I will also be sad if Tah and Raina 'leave the band', because they fill both the 'Tin Man' and 'Cowardly Lion' roles. (Alaria is Dorothy. Morangul is the Scarecrow, the man without a brain. Kyran and Frijyk can take turns at being Toto.)

Well I may have a problem then. Seeing, my guy has taken by surprise, you four and has a dagger to Alain's throat. What is your guy going to do?

@Visor: There you go, I hereby give you permission to kill my character but yours will die if you do so, there is no way around it. This camp is heavily guarded, your hut not being the only one, the hut with Thomas in it has at least to hidden sentries posted too. Anyway, you can kill Alain but if you do Rufus is going to die too ;)

Rufus has no intention of killing Alain. He does want to get out of here. I told you he would fight for his freedom. Though he does have a backup plan....

And I told you what your options are, letting you run just now is going to endanger the princess and that's something Alain won't do. You either kill him and get killed in the process or you don't and stay for the night to talk things over in the morning... What your display just did is that he will probably think twice before forcing you to do anything (which he probably wouldn't have done anyway) as you'll simply betray them any time you can

In respone to the magic sword bit he would have to have it in a nonconductive bag, it shocks people who try to use it.

He doesn't have the sword and it is being guarded.

About the hostage part: Nope, they'll simply kill you and him if necessary.

You definitely won't die by surrendering as the rules clearly state I cannot kill your character if you don't give me permission like I just did, although with the condition to get your permission too if you kill my character ;)

Rufus was never going to kill Alain though. He only wanted to use him to get him and Glungard (who may want to stay anyway) out of there.

So Rufus isn't allowed to leave the camp? O_O

I understand that now but considering the reactions AND the fact that Glungard wasn't held captive it might not have been a smart move if his only goal was to get Glungard out :P

Looks like it was a potion bottle; I found it jarring too... I'm not sure Tah would react favourably to these Lassara types, what with their forcing people to stay against their will and attacking them even after they've surrendered. :laugh4:

Hey, the lassaran troops have not attacked him that was the noble guy... plus Rufus was the attacker in the first place so don't get things mixed up here :P

Also, their (the royal guard's) main concern right now is to keep the princess safe. THis guy first attacked a Lassaran noble and got taken as a prisoner for that. Then he attacked Alain and now they simply can't let him go just like that because they can't really trust him and he could betray their position to anyone... I think given the circumstances it's rather nice he's allowed to stay alive :P

Greyblades might've visited an Apothecary, but he got ripped off. :D

And he only threatened the both of them. He never attacked them. :P

It allows Rufus to learn more about the events so far, instead of being kept in the dark. Rufus probably won't escape soon just to be killed by the other side. But if a different situation arises....

Your profile doesn't state anything about Thomas having a clue about potions though so I'd say Visor's move was alright. ANd I kinda like this resolve

As I said it's fine with me, since Thomas isn't exactly an expert on potions he wouldn't know what he's throwin at Rufus and I like this turnout of Rufus learning something about what's really going on. At the moment my character had no motivation to tell him but it'll give Rufus a better understanding to base his decisions on...

EH? No, Gilford slavaged them from an apothecary when we were leaving lassara. I made a small post just to make sure he didn't get off fully.

Oh come on! You think it was worse than his glass ball of water story?

It's probably worse than that but the bottom line is we need to go on instead of reevaluating something that happened. first it's a potion, then it's water, then it's a potion that works bad when applied to the skin... if you really need to leave it in but make your character answer my question ;)

Look I think the problem was that I said "small orb" instead of potion, I thought of a potion that looked like this:Attachment 1339 pretty rotund no? The idea being it was a sleeping potion, when he said it was water I was annoyed, so I added a bit to say rufus thought it was just water but found out later while it was not a sleeping potion it definitely not water.
It was a mistake that started because I wasn't specific enough.

I still don't get it because there could still be water inside that thing... but it doesn't matter anymore so let's not worry about it

This is the craziest game I've ever played. :dizzy2: Rufus is still with the Lake Birun group, right? I'm not sure how my character would react to all this in-fighting, so I'll hold off posting until necessary. And where are we going from here? I'm guessing we'll be heading east to stop... oh, what's his name? The big axe guy.

Rufus is still with the group but he doesn't know if he's going to stay with it. It's currently night there and the decision is delayed until it dawns... two of the group (that's acutally one player, but two chars, THomas and Gilford) want to go to Tar Cantun and the princess wants to go to Leon. We'll see.

Duno where Rufus is headed if he doesn't stay with us...

So, when I tell the back-story to the Happy Tree Friends, can I just make a "........." to imply
I told the story, while adding in parentheses to just read the history TLD posted?
