I just started taking a look at Empires: Total War.
Between the expansion later this year on MIITW and then this next year, doesn't anyone think it's getting a little too much?
Empire's looks great by the way. I certainly wanted a Napoleonic period version. It's a perfect time period as far as I'm concerned.
Cavalry and swords are still used in abundance, but gunpowder is fully involved by then also.
After studying the period in university and since then become a fan of the Bernard Cornwell; Sharpe series this is going to be excellent.
For those of you that haven't read the Sharpe series of books...then do so. It will give you an excellent preparation for the tactics, economics and politics of the time.
The book is 100% historically accurate with regards to everything but the main character and his exploits. The author goes into great details in his closing comments about what he changed so you can get a perfect historical perspective.
And sometimes I find some parts of the SHarpe books quite amusing.
Yes, they seem top be overloading us with games. Maybe they think we were getting bored?
I know Warluster...it's just starting to take the edge off...
...the business cycle is forcing everything at this stage and I can't say I'm a fan. It's reaching saturation levels for me now...and that's only CA themselves.
And yes...parts of the Sharpe series make me laugh out loud. Patrick Harper has some classic lines as the dry witted Irishman.
[rant]Just enough time to make the quick buck and get people annoyed by the bugs, then release a new flashy high graphics game... the usual business cycle.
What ever happened to the traditional values of gaming quality over graphics quality.[/rant]
Anyway. Where's OK
Heh, Aussie, don't be suprised if Empires doesn't come till Q1 2009.
I think I'll contact one of the MTW2 beta testers again, he could tell me Empires was the new TW game over a year ago, I bet he has some more info CA doesn't want us to know ~D
Well hell go right ahead that sounds great StigQuote:

I'm downloading the save right now and will fight the battle!
Battle fought and won!
kotr1282-1
Odds were 5:1, casualties were down to two, and the prisoners were released.
I'll do my Battle Reports tonight.
Hmm...
Ituralde, looking back, you gave me a lot of grief when I was Kaiser. Not as much as others, but a lot of it.
Now, what to do about it...
Really?
I always had the feeling I was the one on the receiving end of the relationship. Glad I had that success though. And to be honest, Heinrichs performance as Kaiser was an inspiration for Siegfried! :beam:
Oops wrong thread.
Wrong thread.
Speaking of which, I guess Empress would really be the appropriate title for the wife of the Emperor. I had thought about that while writing my initial post, but by then I had already written some letters with her signing as Queen. It's probably better if we go with Empress to avoid confusion should the wife of the King of Outremere show up.

Very funny story GH. I'm looking forward to hearing more about Jens, he seems like a great character :beam:
Oh yeah, I've got plans for my little avatar.
He's got two complexes already, let's see how many more we can bring out in him. :laugh4:
Seeing as he skillfully plays on Jan's complexes, I foresee both of them bringing out the worst in each other. :laugh4:
Skillfully? :inquisitive:
Oh you give young Jens far too little credit. I do believe Jan feels that he is being punished for all the grief he gave Conrad. Its amusing that things have turned full circle. :beam:
Took the save btw

We've got one battle left. If it isn't fought by 2000 GMT, it will be auto-resolved.
I can't fight the battle today.
Not many more, considering he's dead now.Quote:

Egads, I wasn't prepared for this! Good characters get to hit the respawn button, right?
A bit of a shock that's for sure.
The little nut job was going well until now.
Depends how you mean it.Quote:

That said, I was surprised to get the message in the last minute of battle, when a lone mongol archer, surrounded by countless units and GBs managed to kill just Jens before dying.
Don't worry FactionHeir, I was just joking about the respawn button. It is indeed bad news, but I'm sure GH will rise to create yet another memorable character ~:)

btw, who's first to come with the Jan Conspiracy Theory? Afterall isn't it strange that Jens got killed :laugh4:
Jan almost died himself, he was down to one bodyguard. If he's part of a conspiracy, that's dedication.
Hey OK.
Which way is Arnold going now? I guess the Papal Bull prevents me slapping the Hungarian's, so it's more death for the Poles?
Seeing as Jan didn't command the battle, I'm not sure how that one would work. Unless people are going to claim IC that Jan got Hans to kill Jens. And thats a bit of a stretch. :laugh4:
The Hungarian army that was to your south is threatening Bran, so you'r probably going there. The Polish army retreated north back towards Krakow. They can't make up their mind.
If your doing something you have to do it well ~DQuote:

But no, it was really random chance that got him killed. Actually, all three were close to dying, as none had more than 3 GBs with them by the end. For Jan, that wasn't too big of a change, as he only entered with 17 anyway, compared to Hans and Jens who entered with 30 something.
Jan was asking for Hans to speak to Jens about his outspokeness which many older nobles do as a way to help curb the behavior of young outspoken nobles. Jan was not asking Hans to please kill Jens. :laugh4:Quote:

Meh, shouldn't make fun of GH's dead avatar. He did lose 2 in quite a short time now.
Thanks for the update OK.
Arnold doesn't think Jan is incompetent.
like Hans...Quote:

Btw OK: Our papal standing must be quite low even after the recent election that he gives an excomm order.
That's an old excomm order, not a recent one. I believe it came up when Bran was taken.
Ah I see. I thought it was new because OK bothered to post the screenshot of it.
Oh bugger, this one hurts. I was really having fun playing as Jens.
Okay, upon further reflection, I guess I'll take Dietrich von Dassel, but I'm going to need a few days off from this. This one really hurt.
yeah, that really sucks GH, is Von Dassel that Austrian Avatar?
edit: At OK, any mariage offers for Kordula accept them, at this point I'm not picky.
Dassel is the son of the old spare swabian that died a few diets ago.
Sorry about that again GH. Do get back to me on that story though.
Eh, it's not that bad. On the bright side, I have now tied Mount Suribachi's record of most avatars played in a PBM game. :eyebrows:
Will do, FH. Give me a bit of time though.
My condolences, GH. When you really like they character you're playing, his accidental death can sure take a part of you with him.
ok I'm taking the save now, ill be done in a sec
edit: ok I've done the battle but i can't seem to get it to upload am I doing something wrong?
what is specifically the problem that your having? :book:
just upload it to here:
http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Up.../pbmupload.php
whenever i press th upload button it doesn't actually appear on the file list, I think the file is too big for some reason, can I e-mail it to someone and they try
@BtG, did you zip the file first?
I've got 2 reports up, had a 3rd written, hit post and my connection timed out, It's totally lost, to quote the org in general (afaik): BAH!
I'll try again tonight, but no promises
After several similar horrors, I started writing everything lengthy in Word and then pasting it in to the posting box.Quote:

I usually select all my writing and hit ctrl + C, before hitting the post button. That way I can paste it back in how often I want to.
Also, sad to hear about Jens Hümmels death. Always bad to loose a character this unexpected. The mortality rate sure has risen up.
It looks like Bob the Great never figured out how to upload his save.
I would recommend reading this thread:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=30871
It helped me when I first started. You have to give the save a unique name "kotr1284-1" for example for the uploader to accept it. It won't accept a file with the same name as something it already has. It also has to be in a .zip or .rar compression format to be accepted. If you don't have a compression utility, some can be found on the web for free or cheap.
Well, no time to wait, the save's open for business again. Have at it.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/kotr1284.zip
I would still like to try and preserve Bob's game, if possible, so that he doesn't have to play it again. I just sent him my email via PM, so that he can send me the save directly if he can't figure out how to upload it.
I always use word rather than post directly into the board when I do battle reports.
I'm not going to hold up the game for a small battle against rebels. If BtG wants to write a report off his save, that's fine, I'll even put the stats in the summary. However, I don't know when he's going to be on line again, or if he can then succesfully upload the game. We've got four other battles, so I'd like to keep the ball rolling.
I can fight the battle tomorrow night I think if I had the save now, but I think if I get the save tomorrow night, then I can fight it on Wensday afternoon. Sigh.....Still kinda busy, but alot better than the summer now
You don't have a battle this year Xdeathfire, though I would like you to take a look at the save. Caen area is swarming with French troops and if I send the Sw HA in, it'll be messy. I'd like your thought as army commander on the matter.
The Night Dragon is eating the Moon!
Dark Omens! Witchcraft!
(We're having a lunar eclipse here one the east coast US. Thought I'd add a medieval spin to it.)
:wizard:
My condolences, GH. I know how it stinks to lose an avatar which you have no control over.
IC, however, Wolfgang is quite pleased, as he now has one less rival to the Duchy.
I was considering naming Wolfgang the Count of Metz in the letter to the diet, but that would have sounded as if Hans intentionally killed Jens
Well, you got a valid reason. Lorraine has been in the hands of the Hummels' since 1168. Besides, Wolfgang has changed...
Ah, the fraternal bond is not one we're currently embracing in this PBM, is it?Quote:

edit: I can't seem to find a .zip converter, can anyone point me to one?
dude the kastiliens love their brothers, but steffens, hummels, and hamburgs dont. learn from the franconians dude!
Bob emailed me the save, but I am at work now and for some reason the uploader is blocked by my work firewall. I have zipped the save and emailed it to OK.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/kotr1284-1.zip
Good, the save has travelled the four corners of the earth but has returned to us.
We still have four battles. Get to it. Schnell!
I will play mine tonight, but not before 7pm EST, so if someone else can do so before then, please take it.
The irony of this is, Jens was probably the family's only hope of restoring the Hummel name...Quote:
