I don't envy Norway's position. :sweatdrop: You've done a heck of a job with it, though.

Stubborn viking drunk. ;)
hey I just had a thought - deguerra is back soon, right?
so he'll be taking back control of scotland..what do you all think of asking barcamartin to take over wales on a permanent basis?
I say this as it seems like roadkill will not be back, and wales could do with a full-time leader at the helm so it can start to make diplomacy etc.
Sounds good, I'm up for it! :D
I definately approve of the idea. I'd like to make at least one more attempt to contact Roadkill first, though. Although he's been missing his turns here, he did play his last turn in the Grand Campaign hotseat. If he doesn't reply or is still too busy with school, barcamartin is welcome to take over.
Hungary might also be open for a sub or permanant replacement in the Grand Campaign hotseat. It's player is the same as Norway's in this game, and he's been online a few days ago, but has yet to reply to a pm I sent him a long time ago, several Norse turns ago.
Zim old chap, if you post your turn in the next few hours I can rattle through the Irish and Welsh turns tonight...
Well, I was eating dinner... :clown:
I could have it up within the hour.
I have to take my puppy to obedience classes first, so no immediate hurry..
Ok, I'm downloading the save right now.
scotland is up

I'll get to it this evening
hey, deguerra should be back soon right? I notice he was online on the 20th Feb, has anyone heard from him?
I haven't heard from him, but I'd thought he had another week left.
I'll send him a pm and see if he responds.
Just got back actually, and had a quick peek alraedy. Am kinda easing into it though, so if you wanna keep going for another turn or so thats fine with me. How are things anyway?
Clear your inbox and I can give you a rundown of what's happened.

here is the save for wales
http://www.mizus.com/files/pbm/Britannia-15-3.zip
Zim, do you want me to sub or should we get barca started on wales now deguerra is back?
Ok, I'd love to play Wales. A change of "climate" from the Scots. Should I do Wales and another turn for Scotland, since deguerra wanted to "ease into it"?
Definately take Wales turn, Barcamartin. You can probably do Scotlands as well, since deguerra gave permission.
Wales and Scotland done.
http://www.mizus.com/files/pbm/Britannia-15-5.zip
DOn't know when I'll be able to play it...
If not tonight, it will have to wait until monday, I fear.
Is it OK ?
As long as the other players are ok with it I don't mind. We've been going really quickly up to now anyway.
no problem Tristan, take as long as you need
Since I couldn't find a Council Thread or something, I should announce here that Wales has sunk a Norse fleet in the straits between Ireland and the "mainland". This was to protect and treasure the connections, trade and other cooperations with our noble friends, the Irish. As the King of Wales I wish to declare that I have no intentions to fight the Norse elsewhere. Consider this as an act of defending and aiding an ally, not fighting the Norse.

Had to dig through a few pages to find it. What little I know about Welsh diplomacy thus far is in there, and you can see the leadup to the war as well.
So that's it... Now I'm at war with everybody...
Have to think of something for the Council Thread...:smash:
yeh gods why must I fight Tristan. I had avoided it so beautifully until now :D
Oh well, onwards. I'll be taking over Scotland again from now on. Thanks heaps for subbing for me barcamartin, and Im glad to see youll stay with us as Wales. And thanks also to you Tristan for taking over the Norse, even though youve turned almost certain victory into a nail-biting thrill of a game :D
Well, he certainly made this game exciting. It has been a couple of sweaty weeks, glad you're here to relive me deguerra. ;) It also feels good to stay in such good company.
Save for England

FactionHeir addressed something in the MPC that I think is pertinent here. That is the issue of exploits. I don't like exploits because I think they create a separate set of rules for those players aware of and willing to use them. I believe games like this are more challenging and fun when everyone is clear on the rules from the start.
If anyone has a certain exploit they would like used in the game they should bring it up here. As long as most of the players know about it and are fine with its being used, everything is ok. We can then have a poll or something to see what people think.
I just posted my opinion on this in the BC hotseat thread, but to re-iterate:
While I won't be using any exploits and would hope that other players would similarly play in a good spirit of sportsmanship, I think you run into all sorts of trouble trying to define what constitutes an exploit, making up rules about them and detecting when a player is breaking those rules.
So I'm generally against legislation without the possibility of detection and enforcement.
My worst case scenario is that a player accuses another player of using an exploit, it can't be proved, and the whole atmosphere is poisoned by mutual suspicion and distrust.
Monkey no like bad vibes.
It would also be nearly impossible to tell if someone is reloading the game repeatedly until they win an autoresolved battle, but this would break the game.
To my mind exploits = cheating, and ruin the game for players who prefer to play a fair game. If everyone is aware of one and agrees it should be allowed, I don't mind. Otherwise I don't think they should be used. To put it another way, if this were a baseball game and everyone wanted to cork their bat, then fine, so long as everyone is aware that's an option. Ohterwise, you could have a few people winning only because they were the first to figure out a certian way of cheating, which I expect would create bad vibes a plenty if it came out.
People here at the ORG are pretty reasonable, and I don't think wild accusations will be thrown about. I also trust everyone here to follow the rules.
I hate to say it but Norway is up :P

Does Tristan need to be PMed?
We decided to always pm the next guy a while back, but the truth is the players we have tend to check the thread often anyway.

And mourning is in order for another Scottish King (his son made it out alone, his BG down to 1 man), too bad...
you have GOT to be kidding me. Where do you pull these victories from? :D Oh well. Another turn, another King. Pretty soon this will be an elective monarchy and noone will want the job :D
Ireland's up.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/Britannia-17-2.zip
Don't worry the next should have it easier seeing how everybody will gang up on me soon...
You can blame your predecessor for alienating everyone. :clown:

It is too late to turn around on diplomacy and that is why I'll fight to the end but I know that I should be out of this game before turn 20... Any turn after that will be pure bonus...
Unless I get some troops dropped in from Norway...
I think Norway's sole troop reinforcement event is the Haakon one early on.
Things all came to a head when Cheetah invaded Ireland and Scotland at the same time, I think. This ruined any chance he may have had to drive them apart diplomatically, and because I'm more of a roleplayer than a metagamer, I gladly put my support behind my King's son-in-law, King Alexander of Scotland.
Now you know what it's like to not be the first player. ~;)
I'd say you have too many settlements to be taken out in 3 turns, especially as you've hurt Scotland so much.
hi guys - I saw this was up last night but I couldn't get to it because I had to take the dog to the vet (yes, the mighty Irish king has a 12-week old beagle pup with an ear infection that takes priority over warring against the vikings)
should be able to do it this evening after work...:2thumbsup:
:2thumbsup: Thats fine. I also don't see us killing you in three turns Tristan. Anyone else maybe, but definetely not you. Consider that a compliment :P
Wales done, Scotland up.

Gah, my turns are coming up again awfully fast (even in the BC hotseat with a lot of players). Must be a good week for hotseats. :beam:
I am sans wireless for the week, so uploading might be difficult for a bit. If I can't upload the next save for my games, I'll get someone to sub for me.
Subbed Zims turn per his instructions. Ireland is up:
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/Britannia-19-2.rar
Scotland's up !!
http://www.mizus.com/files/pbm/Britannia-19-4.zip
seriously guys, if we keep letting tristan have a turn we'll never finish them off...:clown:
Maybe Tristan should get a handicap in these games, where he only gets every other turn.
Just to give his opponents a chance. :clown:
Seriously, though, I expect this game would be far duller if he hadn't taken over for Norway. Thanks for joining, Tristan.
My pleasure...
Brings me back in years when I was table-top wargaming and playing my own little hand-painted army of vikings...
Here is the save for England...

'twas cool
I had some friends who were into that stuff, but being from Germany, I guess I was too old by the time I hear of it to really get into it. That being said, the Warhammer Computer game (40K more so than the fantasy one) I have extensively played.
Nice to know we all share of bit of the same background :2thumbsup:
Ratpeople = The Skaven !! Awesome stuff !
Hungry aliens = The Tyranids
The game I guess you're talking about, Dawn of War, is really great. An expansion, Soulstorm, was released yesterday I think. I played DoW quite alot a year ago or so, good fun.
Skaven, that's it
and my aliens were Genestealers I think...nasty looking pink and blue chaps
Sorry for the wait.
