Hi all,

Zimoa just remember the unit size thing in the install part it is a very tricky thing since most people in MTW use the huge setting ... in this mod it is not needed.

On the Description front yes we have new descriptions and I have to sit and make some more for all the new units in the game. I will try to make a file with more extensive descriptions of the units in the game and some instructions on how to use them for better effect in combat.

I see you get mixed up a lot with the eras here.
The Area has settlements since 3000BC so there are a lot of eras.
The Eras for HTW are
Geometric starting at 750BC
Proclassical
Classical that ends about in the time of the Peloponnesian was.
Hellenistic is a later period used for the time of the Kingdoms that appeared after the death of Alexander and ends with the Romans.

This mod the best, much better then NTW. I don't like NTW, the AI only fires muskets, it never charges. Anyways, this looks like its gonna be really good. The graphics look better then MTW And Antalis, you seem to be really good at make Historical battles, but you seem to loose all the ones in the screenshots ^^;;;.

Patch in case of CTD (crash to desktop)

This is a patch against the turning to another year bug (CTD) for HTW v2.1 Beta
If you had CTD´s (crash to desktops), when you turned to another year then install this patch to
protect your NEW campaigns against the same problem ,but I doupt that it could heal
a damaged save-game, but try it.

This patch can protect your HTW version against the CTD bug.

BUT please, don´t install it, if you don´t have the turning to another year problem

Installation :

Copy the Medieval.Cfg-file into your HTW main directory.


Tip:set unit size on default so don’t play this mod on large or huge settings

im still totaly confused when the mod is happening, really, and i get all kind of small bits of information in the thread, really i can't use it for anything.

Ive been playing this some more and ive realized something that might make it alittle better. How about the main strong melee soldiers that toss javalins only have 1 javalin? This will allow them to toss then charge in like they are supposed too, instead of tossing then skirmishing.

And they are very weak in melee, so its better to use them behind the lines, as skirmishing unit.

Yes but some units still have problems, like when you play geometrical period, the main warrior is the Polemista (sorry if I spelled it wrong), and it turns into a giant skirmish instead of a raging battle many times, not to mention the computer tends to turn his back on you and not skirmish properly. Just thought some units could benefit by having one javelin.

Alright ive played this game many many times now, I wanted to test out unit capabilities and such, I think its really good minus a few things, I think you made the standard hoplite too powerful, in ancient Greece most citizens could only afford a breastplate, helmet shield and spear. So Heavily Armored takes it too far, I believe simply armored would be more accurate. Although elite units such as the Sacred Bands and such of course would be heavily armored. Also these elite units would also more likely be disciplined. Ive been playing as the Spartans, and my beloved Spartans arent living up to their name, the standard hoplite is just about as powerful as my Spartan counterpart and is much cheaper and takes less time to make. I would like to see those hoplites live up to the description you guys give them 'the elite of the Ancient Greek world' if I remember correct. Also if I remember correctly the Thebian Sacred Band only had 300 men, so possibly only have heir's and kings use that unit type? They are definately from what ive seen as strong as Spartan hoplites and faster to make.

What I would do with the Spartans is make their standard hoplite disciplined and armored, also not slow moving, and better 3 years to create. The Spartan king had a personal bodyguard of elite warriors of such, these men wouldve been heavily armored and very elite, these men should be like 5 years to train, and should show the superiority of the Spartan war machine.

Couple other problems I found, the computers seem to be obsessed with ships, all my ports get swarmed from ships from every nation, gets annoying when waging war on that nation.
I also believe Hippies are too powerful, Greeks definately did not have good horsemen, the cavalary of the Nothern tribes should be able to completely destroy the Hippie units, Ive found this cavalary can stand toe to toe with hoplites and that should be so at all.

Minus all this I really enjoy this mod, much more than medieval total war itself, and I cannot say how excited I am about the new update thats coming.

King Azzole, they do have one spear. The problem is that they don’t release all at the same time so this might end in what appear to be 2 or usually 3 javelins. Mounted units get only one and light mounted 2 javelins to through.
The massive skirmish is because TW engine sees all missile units as skirmish can’t help much in that yet. I am trying using formation modifiers to reduce that.

CrownOfSwords, Hoplites were very heavily armed as you go backing time. The initial versions of Hoplites in 750BC had the bell shaped armor about 1.5cm thick, hoplon, helmet, protection for the hands and legs. The leg protection had extra parts that protected the upper leg. This armor was gradually reduced with the Philips phalangites to have just a linothorax or chain-mail. But usually they used heavier armor.
In TW engine now there are just 5 separations for the names anything above that gets the maximum. Unfortunately we have a grater range in armor and in most factors so if the unit goes above 5 then it gets heavily armored.

I have been silently following HTW for some time now and I've just gotten into playing on it and I must say, I love it.

Could any of the developers of HTW explain me what is the CTD patch and why CTD occurs?
I am developing the Reconquista campaign mod and I have the CTD problem. I did not find this problem with HTW (I played several years of three campaigns with different factions).
May this patch solve my own problem?
I have a fresh installation of MTW-VI for any of the mods.

Well we discovered this file of the patch while searching for the solution of the turn to another year ctd bug, which had a few players.

What it is exactly?: I don´t know exactly, but it worked, so maybe it will also work for you.

Hi, gentleman I have been following this MOD for some time now, this is my first of many post at this forum. I have talked to Antalis about doing a music mod for HTW, I have been working on one for the last couple of weeks. I will post it at the TWC or in the upload section here at the org.

It features new menu music to give the game a new feel as well as campaign and battle music.

Some of the music that I have used is from some of the best coposers in the the industry such as Howard Shore, James Honer (Troy), Bruce Davey (Passion), and some various artist. What I have done so far is edited most of the songs so that they work better for the game in other word smoth transitions form tension to movement to battle etc.

I know that you guys will like it, I mainly did the MOD for myself kinda tried of the same music, let me know what you guys think.

I found that the port in south cyclabs is in the bottom of the island but the way with ship is from the small strip of water to the left next too North cyclabs.

that mistake in the map jast cost me the campaign.
Many revolt because the king led the invasion ...

So for Greeks battle tunes should be that of a twin flute known as di-avlos usually singing too of specific song called pe-anas. Each unit had a yang man that played the flute called avlitis. Hope these help I have no idea about the rest.

Lt Mor, sorry this was a glitch that is traced back to the original map I think we can fix it, I will try. But have in mind you need a boat in the inner Cycladic sea region to move out of the Cyclade region.

Why not just use the music from the movie troy? It has very nice music...
