Wat Are All Of Your Favourite Units!?

I have to say in Barbarian Invasion I have a new favorite faction, and hence, all their units are my favs. The Faction is the Allemani. Lombard Berserkers, Lombard Archers, wardogs, etc. I recently played a full campaign with these guys, and I have to say my battle were, bar none, the best tactical battles I have ever fought. The units worked as advertised (each was very good at supposed specialty) and a lot of battles came down to superior tactics winning (or bad tactics losing) the day. Not to mention how much fun it is releasing the Berserkers on top of a wall and watching the opposition literally fly off the walls.

Worst unit ever? Levy Spearman (Franks). These guys were horribly misnamed. They should be called Levy Javalinmen. They have no bonus versus cavalry, which IMHO is the only thing I want from my SPEARmen. Since they are just glorified javalin throwers, it leaves an annoying hole in the basic order of battle for the Franks. Don't get me wrong, I still like playing the Franks, it's just irritating that they have no base cheap infantry unit.

I think they have a bonus, but like the ERE Lanciarii it isn't shown (however haven't really played BI since I patched it so may be wrong if it has changed). And they do have shieldwall which is always nice (and spear units are not as slow in it like swords and axes).

Oh, after having fallen in love with a basic Medium Cavalry built in Defnas a few campaigns ago, I'm now in love with the welsh bandits. My, oh, my: fast as a bow, longer range, runs like a highlander, armour piercing, more than decent in melee (dies a bit easily though).... I've won a couple of battles against VIKINGS in a welsh campaign just because I could havily reduce their numbers with welsh bandits attacking from diferent sides, the enemy not knowing where to send its army. When they finally arrived to my main body of troops, they were 70% of them, and very tired apparently.... The general unit, which was standing a bit aside was finally routed by my 4 welsh bandit raining arrows...

In MTW which I'm currently playing again I'd have to say....... kataphractoi for cavalry they just roll over people......
Spanish jinetes because they are great for pelting the enemy and charging in afterwards (although only REALLY effective from the flanks).....
Gallowglasses...although they have poor morale they have a great attack and cost less to maintain than even peasants(22 florins compared to 37 for peasants).....
A little off the point but one of my favourite features of the battle scenario is the follow missiles option(when you right click a missile unit as he is firing at a target).......... it just looks cool........

Just sliced through Britain as the Welsh.

I am back to my old arrowing ways. Those v+1 archers at a reduced price... I just wiped the floor with all comers. :eyebrows:
Have now switched to a Pict campaign, to fine-tune my crossbow skills.

If you like V1 archers, then try out V2 longbowmen. Very fun indeed, though perhaps overpowered.:yes:

Hands down Gothic Knights are my favorite units in the Medieval series. The beautiful gothic style armor, armored steeds, maces and morningstars and of course the lances... Everything a man in battle could want! And of course Dismounted Gothic Knights with zweihänder make you water at the mouth before a good scrap! ^^

Have not played it in a loooong time because of compatibility issues with XP but in STW my favorite unit is Heavy Samurai Calvary. Nothing gets me more than heavy armor! And for infantry it was most definitely Naginata Samurai. Heavily armored samurai with a Naginata, give me one good troop of naginata armed samurai to defend the bridge into Musashi and that's all I need! :smash:

I like the English longbowmen-They're pretty much the cretan archers of M2TW.
The only thing i dont like about them is that sometimes during sieges when im defending,they tend to shoot high up in the air rather than shoot directly at the enemy.This is rather innacurate and less demaging to the enemy therefore making it pretty annoying.Can someone please tell me how to solve this problem?:help:

As I hard-core Nomads fan...surprisingley I have to admit: I love those Landsknecht mercenaries...gimme 2 stacks of these [playing a Hungarian campaign in MTW2] and we´ll go all the way to Venice or Jerusalem.

I think they have a coool animation to. Call them the Spartiats of my Magyar army.:laugh4:

RTW: Forester Warband.
STW: Naginata Cavalry. IIRC they could perform well against just about anything.
MTW: Jinetes. They were *so* cool for rushing purposes.

EB: Caetrati/Caetranann. Cheap, effective against anything, just about.
Blue Lotus: Wang Liang. The. Coolest. Unit. EVER. Plus they're nicely overpowered. I also love the Mongol horse archers and the firelances, those are pretty good.

I have more units! This time they are from EB, they are Spartiartai Hoplitai(Spartan Hoplites), Toxotai Kretekoi(Cretan Archers), Lo'hamim Azzilim(Sabean Noble Infantry) and Giusim Aravim Tsfonim(Arabian Light Archer-Spearmen).

I think that Serbian Knights are the best...:charge:

I now like Spanish Musketeers from M2TW a lot now, especially with them decked otu with top experince,armor and weapon!

And also Tercios with best armor etc.

I like the pilgrims, because they are powerful, ok powerful, especially in religious powerful:dizzy2:

Mounted archers are my favorite troops. Especially the ones with a high stamina.

mamluks archers, dvor cavalry, mongols mounted heavy archers.

English Lonbowmen all the way!
With 4 units of them and 4 units of Billmen I killed a full army :knight: of Frenchies!

The Armoured War Elephants are hands down the best unit in the series. They can gore you with there tusks, trample you, shoot you with arrows hecks they can even knock open gates.:wall:

Chariots...they kick ass...need I say more? Okay, Okay...fine...I will...dont be so pushy. I was engaged in an epic battle back around 180 b.c., standard, untampered rtw. I, of course, was the most noble egyptians, and had just recently gotten a stackfull of soldiers to Rome, the fabled heartand of the most notorious roman empire, which had recently been beaten off my most remote and seperated settlement...that of Tara (Ireland). Okay, Back to Rome. The S.P.Q.R had two stacks of most experienced triarii, priceps, hastati, and about 5 family members strewn about, aided by a stack of early legions and the older troops from the julii and scipii. I was fending off the onslaught of 3 and a half to 4 stacks with my one stack of shock-troops. I really thought that my family heir, along with the entire force involved with Operation: Kick Roman Ass (patent pending) were done for! But some clever posistioning and the extensive use of rocks to drive their forces apart, allowed my chariots to wipe their family members off of the map. I drove them into the enemies flanks, biting quite deeply into the enemy ranks, killing them by the dozens. A battle for which I held no hope was instantly brought into the light. I carved deep with my archers, holding their men at bay with my pikemen and my cavalry, somehow holding out against the overwhelming onslaught with much ease, winning the battle with only two hundred casualties...to thier two thousand. My chariots alone caused a full half of their casualties, and earned my undying respect. I later went on to completely conquer the romans, and later the whole of the map!...again...

You were caesar's cousin's roommate? Or were you his roommate?

In RTW my favourite units are all legionaries. Their javelins are devastating, and they kill everything on their way in melee.

In M2TW, musketeers. Very long range + accuracy + gunpowder = many DEAD :skull: enemies.'

I must admit that I don't remember a thing about MTW because I was 10 years old when I played it. :embarassed:

Yep, got to go with the Legions! I just love setting up in a "chequerboard" and just waiting for the enemy to come to me...soften them up with some arrows...then the javelins are enough to have them faltering....hit them hard from the front with a counter-charge (assuming they're still coming!) and then ride them down with whatever cavalry is available :skull: . Another victory for the Empire. :laugh4:

In RTW:

(Briton) Light Chariots - Wow. Just wow. Death Race 200BC. Now CA, let me play as Boudicca! I'm sick of Briton Generals all being blokes :wall:

(Briton) Head Hurlers - Routing the enemy in horrible style? Yes please.

(Roman) First Cohort - Well I paid for Rome. I want to see classic Roman Legions. I demand it.

(Greek) Spartan Hoplites - I've seen quite a few last stands by Spartan Hoplites. I'm proud :balloon2:

In BI:

The Saxons - I just love their look, its iconic Dark Age to me (from bad films like The Siege of the Saxons) and learning about the Battle of Hastings, and things in School :book:
