Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Hello!
i am new with EB and i would like to see if somebody could help me
i have RTW patched to 1.5 and i've installed EB , and everything worked perfect but..
when i want to play custom battles i try to choose for example the Sweboz and when i want to choose my army there is a mixture of all the cultures there, and it is the same for all the factions there, i dont know if it is normal or it is something wrong with my game because some of the warriors that comes in the website( that is not working btw) doenst appear here, and there are mixed gauls, sweboz , africans, etc like if i had chose the freemen faction
somebody there could help me to know if that's how the game is or if it is something wrong? and maybe to help me to fix it?
i appreciate it so much
greetings!

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Hey, I just installed Europa Barbarorum 1.0. I wanted to get the latest version straight off their website but for some reason it's down and I get redirected to some Go Daddy site. Anyway, I had to get this version at Gamespot, and I think it's old.
Do I need to download both the 1.1 and 1.2 patches to be up to date?
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
1.1 is standalone. 1.2 is a patch. This means that your 1.0 installer is no use when you want to get 1.2.
To get 1.2 download 1.1 and then 1.2. The website may be down, but the mirrors are still there. Both Filefront and the ORG (this very totalwar.org) should have those files so you can download directly from them instead.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Oh ok, thanks. So I might as well just get rid of the 1.0 version since I don't need it?

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Ok, I finished installing 1.1 and 1.2 and tried to launch it, but I get the Failed to Find Steam error message. And yes, I did follow mk56's advice and right clicked Rome Total War Gold in steam, clicked properties, went to set launch options, and typed in -mod:eb -show_err without quotations.
I have Vista, and in the guide it says that you can make a backup of the clean RTW 1.5 outside of the Program Files folder, so I just copied the entire Steam folder into a Games folder I have under Users. When installing, I specified the folder with Roman Total War Gold in it like the guide says. Does the fact that I still have the original Steam folder with all the RTW games in my C:/Program Files folder have anything to do with why I can't launch it? Should I have deleted the original or actually reinstalled the game into the new Games folder rather than just copying it? Oh, and by clean copy of 1.5, do you mean no saved games on it either?
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Saved games are irrelevant, you can have as many as you like of those.
I'm not familiar with Steam, but it might well be that it is trying to launch EB from your Program Files-installed RTW still. I'm not sure if you can control the installation or run location for Steam games?

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Is there a reported bug for trying to play EB with BI and Alex installed? I'm not talking about playing EB with BI or Alex. I'm new to RTW and I'm not sure what files get altered if BI and Alex are installed. My RTW says 1.5 though. I just thought I should ask first before I uninstall and then reinstall. Also if I were to just copy paste which files should I not copy and paste to make it a plain RTW 1.5?
Thanks in advance

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Some people who have had problems getting EB to run properly have been more successful when installing without any expansions. Many do get EB to run properly with them installed though, and in theory there should be no damage from having them there.
If you were to copy your installation, if there is an expansion related problem, you would still get this problem, as any problem it has caused will still be in use by the RTW executable. Files which are Alex/BI specific will not be used by RTW. Therefore, copying such an installation cannot create a clean 1.5 RTW. You need to install RTW again to get a clean installation.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Hi again. Yeah I thought it should work as well because EB has its own folder but I reinstalled anyway. I started a Roman campaign and so 30 turns far so good stability wise. It's not as slow as I thought it would be, only the between turns I feel significance difference. Uncivilised Eleutheroi can't think as fast! Game wise so far it's a blast. Well maybe I should reload with harder campaign setting but anyway I love that "in the year" thing. I think I started the campaign script right. I just can't clarify. How do I know if I started campaign script? It doesn't "loop" though so I probably did it right.
Oh I was wondering what the trivial script was I double clicked the exe and I got...
Quote:
XMLScriptParser: Couldn't load file: script.xml
Error Parsing file: script.xml
Row: 0 Description: Failed to open file
It doesn't seem like it but is it because it's not installed inside the EB folder? I forgot to change the default path for this one so it's in program files alone. Any way to reinstall it without reinstalling whole EB? Copy paste? Matter at all?
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
The trivial script is an easy way to do certain small changes to the game, such as choosing the lighting that suits you best, turning on or off movies or switching between multiplayer and singleplayer filesets.
I do not know how to fix any installation problem on it, in fact I have been unable to get it to work by installing myself (but personally prefer using shortcuts anyway). I think only LordBula (who wrote it) knows what is the problem, and he's not around now. The installation location should not matter, I gather.
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
I don't see any option about lighting and switching files...only the "preferences." Well the game works so I'm good. Thanks Bovi for replying often.
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Switching files occurs when you choose to run EB multiplayer or EB single player. It copies the file sets which are appropriate from the backup folders into the mod folder proper before running the game.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
OK, so I've followed the instructions on how to install, but I get this error when I try to start up EB:
This application has failed to start because MSS32.DLL was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
I have absolutely no clue what that means and I'm not great with computers :dizzy2:
I have read through the other posts but couldn't find an answer. I know how it's normally to do with where it's installed, but I followed the instructions fully and I'm completely stuck :wall:
This is the third time I've tried to get EB to work so any help is hugely appreciated!

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Read post #1 of this thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93236
It contains a download link for that file and instructions on where to put it.
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
I downloaded it and put it in the file and it works great! You wouldn't believe how much time i spent trying to get it to work before.
Thanks Tellos Athenaios and Bovi for the help you give to everyone! :clown:

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
hi anyway of installing with Total war gold
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
IIRC the Gold version is already patched to 1.5 , so no problem. Even if there are all addons installed the Trivial Script will identify the right exe.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Hello there,
I have a problem to run EB. I've installed RTW 1.0, then 1.3 and 1.5. After I install EB 1.1 in the right folder of RTW 1.5, and EB 1.2. But when I want to run EB game, the .exe launch RTW classic... I don't know why.
Here is a screenshot of my installation folder :

The validation :
You seem to have a corrupt install. There are changes to files, or some are missing.
However, these may be conscious changes you have made, to remod EB. See below for details.
==========
Changed file: .\eb\data\world\maps\battle\custom\279#bc#-#battle#of#ausculum\description.txt (expected checksum e54e6f6ba0c7cbb4eb7a2016e2f17842, got 0337a879748a757b21957959beb00873)
Changed file: .\eb\mp game edu backup\map.rwm (expected checksum 1c90eb5933e8e610f00bdd692ca60048, got ca3d6899906a707189b700241a6e2797)
Changed file: .\rometw.exe (expected checksum de01375b675cbd95b7efcb745e72ead6, got 632f884ca993a430038a03d76bfa2f50)
Added file: .\eb play.lnk
Added file: .\extras\ebtrivialscript_setup.exe
Added file: .\extras\eb_documentation.exe
Added file: .\extras\eb_rv_setup.exe
Added file: .\unins000.dat
Added file: .\unins000.exe
Note : french windows, but game in english. Same for the 1.3 and 1.5 patch.
Please, help me :)

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Let's start with changing the shortcut target line:
Quote:
Modify the shortcut target. Move the end quote from the end of the line to directly after RomeTW.exe and it should work (goes for both the new shortcuts in 1.2). For instance, instead of "C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe -mod:eb -show_err -ne" it should be "C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne.
Oh, did you install the 1.2 patch right into the RTW folder or into the EB sub-folder?

Thank you XSamatan, it works now. It was the shortcut :)

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Hello,
I am having trouble playing the game i believe i have installed the game correctly, the only problem i am having is with the CD. When i go to play it asks me to put the disk in, well i no longer have my RTW disks. I made ISO copies of them on three new disks that did not work. When i put the disk in it reads it and brings up the RTW install/uninstall/play menu, however when i go to start EB it does not read that the disk is there.
Any help would be much appreciated, I'm a huge Total War and History junky so I have a huge amount of anticipation about playing this game soon.
Thanks

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
EB supports no cracks or similar, you will need a valid copy.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Ok can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong
I uninstalled and reinstalled RTW and I'm 100% sure it is patched
To 1.5. I ran the installer and put the file in program files(x86)/the creative assembly/RTW
However I donot have a desktop shortcut for EB.
When I go into the file and click EB play it just bring up basic RTW
What have I done wrong? Oh and the version I installed was 1.1 and I have windows 7
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Might be an issue with the installer? Or are you fooled by the intro movie being from RTW? If you don't disable movies it tends to be played before EB proper loads.
You can always create a shortcut yourself.
Specify the Target as being:
Quote:
C:\program Files(x86)\the creative assembly\RTW\RomeTW.exe -mod:eb
And that should work. You an also add optional
-nm (no movies)
-show_err
to the command line.
