A map, i thought the stats etc were quite easy to find. A unit description manual is coming out soon and perhaps with the stats but im not sure as of yet
TS
Hello http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
If you want a rough version of the VI unit's mod
mail me at TheLords@thelordz.co.uk
and I'll send you a link .
I say rough because it replaces alot of
default files still so a second install is best
unless you know what you are doing or you just don't care. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
All I know is it will work with a clean install
of VI and forget about plating VI as all the
animations have changed.
I mention this as It's been asked a few times
as to why the MTW unit are all wierd when
you install the MOD?
Well it's because I refuse to have
any animation in the mod that is better than our http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/joker.gif
OK seriously http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif it's because the game has limited amount
of unit animations files available , so if we wish to add one we must remove one .
VI allows for ten custom animations files to be added ,
which is great However we have already added
more than double that and people keep asking for more . http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif So you'll never be able to play both
on the same install ,well untill it comes
with an installer that restores the default files.
This will happen but not for a while yet.
We have made smaller sprites in an effort to try
get more units in less bifs and we are testing them at the moment .Non the less a limit exists which will need to
be addressed . I still don't know how many it will be in the end and exactly which ones .
You'll be the first to know , well after the team
and my girlfriend and my sister of course . http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/joker.gif
regards
LK http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/smokin.gif
Hmmmm, thats a very good point about the limitation on unit numbers LK.
May I make a suggestion.
Do away with the current 'specific' units (e.g HessenHomburg Hussars, Pavlograd Hussars, Marioupal Hussars....) and replace them with just 1 general unit. So instead of having 3 hussar units for the Russians you would only have 1.
There is also a certain historical argument for this as well because you would only have 1 regiment of each of those specific troops and at the moment you are free to build as many as you want.
Just a thought and probably not very high on your to do list, but could solve part of a problem.
Very good point Brother Derfel, Really Hussars for all the nations are very much the same, more or less unless guard units. Adding a generic General unit in one of those spare spaces would be ideal. Kinda a general model and staff, say a unit of 6-10 models in bicorns etc...

De Moray http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif

Okay now I've dried my eyes
1. LK do you require a list of all the nations generals and their qualities for the campaign? I mean not the leaders but the rest.
2. Why are the French line in bicorns, just wondering?
3. Would there be any reason why the howitzers and cannon batteries are poorly diplayed on my machine, they appear buried in the ground.
4. I've just spent the last 8 hours playing custom battles and I'd like to say well done once again.
Tenkisoratoti.... hope to meet you on the field soon. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif

TS
French line wore Bicorns for a good deal of the early revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. I have forgotten when they adopted the Shako. I agree however if we were to be completely realistic, a shako wearing line infantry unit should be available, but lets not give the lords more work than they already have.Quote:

Could'nt agree more my friend. Just all the other units have shakos.
1806/07 Is when the shako came into use.
Kind Regards,
De Moray
Just the imperial guard retained the bicorne in their ranks as well as their old fashioned uniforms.
Hmm.. the Emperial guard retained the bicorn only as an undress hat. Since the creation of the Consular Guard in 1800 the had adopted the Bearskin, but correct that they retained the older cut of coat with the longer tails.
LK are the units in the mod so far everything you will be doing or do you plan to add more at this stage, just realised that I had written descriptions for French Lancers, guard lancers, middle guards etc...
Spot on to Cuirassier for the square effect seems to work well. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif

Great news LK. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
Hey guys,
I might have a small tip for you concerning moveable guns. I don't how you are doing it right now, but I came up with this when designing a battering ram for the LotR mod.
You'll need the following things:
1. BIF with the horse
2. BIF with cannon. You will need the cannon to be seen from the 4 angles. This BIF also includes one soldier doing all the appropiate actions that a cannoneer should do.
Then you build the image:
1. First of course the mount, place this anywhere you want, if front or behind the cannon.
2. Next the rider, and that would be the cannon.
3. Then the shield and weapon. In the item files write the coordinates of the soldier. The shield is one soldier and the weapon is the same soldier. Using the last number you can say whether he should be infront or behind the cannon. Because the shield and weapon are read from the BIF every frame, you will see two animated soldiers.
I thought this would be interesting for you since it would add some more activity on a otherwise pretty static unit. If it's useless, then what the heck If you don't understand then you'll to wait untill I have the battering ram finished.
Cheers, Duke John
Duke John
Thanks for the input . At present we just put the whole
thing on the same bif . I understand what you are
talking about .LBA and I have tought about this
and tried some variations on it .
Using shields for other things has been spoken
about here before but not for long
as most of the ideas involved writing complicated
items coordiates.
You can make cannon move on the one bif also
but the horse is not on the stand or shoot frame .
Using two bifs and a shield image does seem to be the best way but it's harder and a longer process.
Seen as I find it hard enough to keep up as it is
that makes it a no no for me at the moment. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/frown.gif
The ones we tried only kind of worked that's why
we decided to go with one that only kinda worked http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
but did not require as much work http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Let me know when you have yours done .
We might be able to use it as the template for ours.
All ideas and help welcome when it comes to that sort
of thing

Right now the available Unit betas are just the units for Custom Battles. The whole Campaign Mod will be released shortly, and will include all the major factions of the Napoleonic era, Napoleon himself along with some other prominent generals of the period, a new tech tree, game pieces,Portraits and a host of many other things are being changed to bring the Total Napoleonic War experience. We can get it to work on a basic level
working with the same file structure as Vikings.
It still has a few issues that need to be resolved

When that's done we will have a stable base to
add all the data and files we have put togeather

That alone will take some time .
A bare bones beta will be released first

one question: What nations will be in this mod? will there be an Swedish nation? Danish? The swedes wasnt as uninportant in the nap. ear as in the middle ages http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
Lazul, agreed that the Swedes wernt AS important in the Napoleonic era as in the Medieval, but they did play some important roles during the Wars. The renegade (French) Marshal Bernadotte became King of Sweden (Charles, cant remeber the number atm) and in the German campaign of 1813, his small (about 30,000) but well trained army played quite an important part, linking up with the Russians, Prussians and Austrians for the Battle of the Nations (Liepzig)as well as some other smaller engagements during that campaign.
All that said, no, i dont think there will be a playable Swedish faction but I believe the Danes are in.
Lord Ux
well... that sux... cant be to hard to buit the swedes in... just take the danish infantry and cav and turn them blue and yellow... then just give them sweden. tadaa... fixed. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
OK enough already due to the outcry for a swedish faction, and rethinking the issue, The Swedes will be added even if as a minor faction at first until specific units can be worked on . LOS
That would take twelve hours work per unitQuote:

Just because we have factions declared does not mean they will have historical units .

Thats enough with the negative remarks, that is not what this thread is about so can it Lazul is just taking some pride in his country nothing wrong with that, maybe he just doesnt realize the time it takes to make units for an entire faction and be historically correct to boot. Btw Lazul, his name was Charles XIV John, (Karl XIV (14) Johan), Jean Baptiste Bernadotte before he moved here. King between 1818 and 1844.

all the bells and whistles are added ,but it will have to be at a stage that the file structure is intact and
can be upgraded without redoing the whole thing if pos .
Another factor which must be considered is that ,
over the last couple of months many members of the team
have been away dealing with a thing called real life.
Things like vacations , illness , death , birth
and work that pays money , have been the main reasons
this mod has had any delays .
We are doing this because we want to so it will get done
that's all I know .So spare a tought for the poor guy's
that are tring to make it .
Thanks
Regards,

"After Napoleon’s defeat in 1814, Denmark was compelled to sign the Treaty of Kiel, ceding Norway to the king of Sweden—an ally of Britain against France. The Norwegians, however, disavowed the treaty. They declared themselves an independent kingdom, drew up a liberal constitution, and offered the throne to the Danish crown prince Christian Frederick (later Christian VIII of Denmark). The Norwegian move was opposed by the European powers, and, the head of an army, Marshal Jean Bernadotte, later King Charles XIV John, persuaded Norway to accept the Treaty of Kiel. In return for its cooperation, Norway was allowed to retain the newly promulgated constitution. By the Act of Union of 1815, Norway was given its own army, navy, customs, and parliament (Storting), and was permitted full liberty and autonomy within its own boundaries."Quote:

Led by Johan Sverdrup, president of the Storting, the Norwegian legislature engaged in a long struggle with King Oscar II of Sweden over the issue of whether the king or the Storting would choose the cabinet (executive) in Norway. Under established tradition, the cabinet was responsible only to the Swedish king, giving the crown a permanent veto on legislation. Oscar was forced to yield in 1884, following the impeachment of his members from the Norwegian cabinet and their removal from office. Afterward, Oscar appointed Sverdrup to lead the first government responsible to the Storting, and Norway became a parliamentary democracy.
Once Norway had attained control over executive power, Norwegians demanded their own foreign minister to negotiate on behalf of the country. This was seen in Sweden as a threat to the authority of the king, and Sweden refused to capitulate. As a substitute policy, however, Norway demanded a separate consular service (to regulate Norway’s international economic and commercial relations) and a Norwegian flag for its merchant marine without the symbol of union. The flag was approved by Sweden in 1898, but Sweden balked at the demand for a consular service. Finally, in 1905, led by Prime Minister Christian Michelsen, the Storting declared the union with Sweden dissolved. In a plebiscite in August 1905 the Norwegian people voted overwhelmingly for separation from Sweden. The Swedish Riksdag (legislature) ratified the separation in October. A month later Prince Carl of Denmark accepted the Norwegian crown as Håkon VII."

Roughly the same article as the one in Swedish, from the US Encarta.
I was thinking about the thing Lazul said earlier, about the years. The uniforms used during the war were, more or less, the old m/1802, changed many times.
Many of the Swedish soldiers down on the continent, "modernized" their uniforms during their stay there, but it wasn't until 1816, when the troops got home, the new uniforms entered service. In 1815 they got shakoes.
http://www.algonet.se/~hogman/symbol/s-reg-uni5.gif m/1810 with Shako.
Uniform m/1816 was the one used to until 1845, with minor changes, this was the uniform that looked best and most "napoleonic".
http://www.algonet.se/~hogman/militaria/trupp_1830.jpg m/1816 in the 1830.
The uniforms of the 19th Century (in Swedish), can be divided into different "periods".
Gustavianska Uniformer (1771-1815):
During the reign of Gustav III, his son and his brother.
Early:

1815-1845:
During the reign of Charles XIV John (Jean Baptiste Bernadotte).
You've already seen that.
1845-60:
During the reign of Oscar and his followers
http://www.algonet.se/~hogman/milita..._i_m_m1845.jpghttp://www.algonet.se/~hogman/milita..._hat_m1845.jpg Uniform of the lifeguard.
Anyway this period, first half of the 19th century, is in my opinion the most interesting part of the uniform history, especially the 30's.
So how about the pre- and post-napoleonic eras in the mod?
It will a bit longer than that .Quote:

Well at least without putting
"...type" "...style" "vauge resmemblence to ..."
in the title also . http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
The mod will start before the Napoleonic Period
so to speak and will go on till the time
of Napoleon III.
I mean his nephew not the third version of the mod . http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
So Balaclava and Solferino will be in the time frame also.
So about as long as it's taking to make. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/joker.gif

Axelthorpe
That's the idea , but we have a lot of animations
to add and doing an early and late set for each faction
might not be possible .
