Bosnia, ceding lands to Yougoslavia and (a bit) backed by Croatia?
Macsen Rufus has got it.
Bolivia lost its chunk of the Atacama Desert to Chile during the War of the Pacific (1979-1883). In solidarity with its ally, Peru, which also lost significant territority, has since gifted a small stretch of beach to Bolivia as a symbolic Bolivian coastline.
Take it away, Macsen Rufus.
Sorry it's taken a while to get back - I'm only online at work, and had to go home after I posted the last one....
OK, so the (British) Channel Islands (Les Iles Anglo-Normandes to Francophones) are NOT part of the United Kingdom or Great Britain. By what claim does the British monarch reign over them?
Duchy of Normandie.
 IA has it...
yes, the Channel Islands are the last vestiges of the Duchy of Normandy (the rest having been subsumed into France), and the British Monarch holds the title of Duke of Normandy (even when the monarch's a queen ~D)
Give me a minute to come up with one. :embarassed:
A bit local but all I could come up with quickly.
Why did pregnant women in the Lancashire/Yorkshire border town of Todmorden cross the river into Yorkshire to have their babies born?
If too parochial, I'll amend it.
To make their sons eligible for the better cricket team? ~D

The mainland of which continent has a large statue of Christ at its southernmost point?
For 1 bonus point: what country is it in?
For 5 bonus points: name the nearest port (the most southerly in this continent)
For 10 bonus points: name the body of water this statue can be seen from
EDIT: was this too hard?
Couple of clues: there are glaciers nearby, and the waterway was named after a Portuguese explorer.
ANOTHER EDIT:
48hrs no answer - do I get a prize? Or a booby prize for killing the thread?
Surely someone here knows!
South America, Argentina. Dunno the other ones.
Is the statue the one in South America, in Brazil, and is it in Rio de Janerio :P
South America, Chile, Ushuaia and antartic ocean.
Yeah!
greaterkhaan was the first with the main answer, so is the winner of this round.
Is it indeed South America, but no bonus points...
One bonus point to tristukhan for naming Chile correctly.
The closest port is actually Punta Arenas, and the waterway is the Estrechos Magellanicos (Straits of Magellan) - Ushuaia is in Tierra del Fuego which is not part of the mainland.
Take it away greaterkhaan :2thumbsup:
Ok, I'll stick w/ the format used by macsen rufus. The question is, what river runs through more countries than any other?
For one bonus point, name how many countries.
For five bonus points, name all the countries.
the Donau/Danube?
It flows through 10 countries,
Germany
Austria
Slovakia
Hungary
Croatia
Serbia
Romania
Bulgaria
Ukraine
and it's a part of the Moldavian border...
greaterkhaan,
Has Conradus got it?
My apologies, guys, I kinda forgot about this thread for a while. Counting Moldavia, Conradus is correct on all fronts.

Would you believe that up until just now I had always assumed the Appalachian Mountains were made up of the Appalachian Mountains? :smash:
A complete list would be huge. Off the top of my head I can think of the Alleghenies, Blue Ridge, Berkshires, Taconics, and the Cumberland Mountains. There's plenty more.Quote:
