Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
The flurry of PMs I've been sending and receiving make me a little reluctant to end 1310 now. But I think we have done everything we can in the save and there are some battles we need to get out of the way in 1312, so I think I will post the report on 1310. We are now officially in 1312.

First, Jan is going to take his army and go this way. :charge:
Then, Jan is going to take his army and go that way. :charge:
Somewhere in between, Jan is going to fight some people and then release them all. :shakehands:
During all of this, Jan will spend hours writing legislation that he will just pull at the last minute. :study:
If he lives through it all, Jan will celebrate by drinking copious amounts of beer with whoever else is still alive. ~
There, now please plan an event around that. :hide:

We crappola I was looking at the wrong save.
That's what 9 weeks away will do.
This one looks much better.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
AG,
You had me scared for a moment that we had a "zombie Siegfried" like we had a "zombie Hummel". o_O
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Believe me, poor Siegfried died more times planning 1308 than you can imagine. :sweatdrop:
Sort of reminds me of that scene in Shaun of the Dead, where Shaun imagines all the different scenarios in which he could kill his zombie stepdad Phil and rescue his mum.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Some battles for 1312:
Duke Arnold (AussieGiant)
Friedrich Karolinger (Warmaster Horus)
Edmund Becker (CecilXIX)
Fredericus Erlach (Stuperman)
Ignoramus or Factionheir: advice on the Swabian situation would be appreciated. Unless Ignoramus can fight battles, we can only autoresolve so that constrains us. I'll do the autoresolving, but I will follow your instructions about moves.
This is the save:
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/1312-1.zip
Deadline for all battles - 24 hours hence.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I can fight battles, only Medieval 2 sometimes quits on me. But it's far better than autoresolving first off.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
hey kids - dont forget about the wiki. lotsa editing to do.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
With the wiki, I suspect a lot of people are waiting for their avatar to die before making an entry.
I made an entry for Jan's retinue but I'd prefer to wait before I make one for Jan himself. Though if GH insists that there be one, I'll make a small generic one and flesh it out later.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
It's a bit tough writing about your own avatar. You have the background, but might have a skewed perspective. I'm kinda glad someone besides myself(GH?) wrote Otto's bio.

edit: prisioners released, moved as close to the bridge as possibe.
Edit 2: sorry, I toggle_fow'd and didn't turn it off for the save.
Edit 3: New save is up, correcting said deficiencies, 1312-2b.

Well, if you can fight the battle, there is a large French army next to you that you could attack. However, your army is pretty beat up from all the autoresolving it has been doing and I would not recommend the battle unless you can fight it manually. Don't call the save for longer than 2 hours as there is a queue.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I'm scheduled to fight my battle Thursday night around 19:00 Swiss time.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Battle fought and won. No screenshots except for the end result, unfortunately, as the computer was threatening to jam, I didn't want to minimise MTW2(I take screenshots manually with print screen, pause the battle, then paste them in paint).

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I'll take the save in 5-6 hours, if nobody else has it then.
I wonder, what would happen if Friedrich exterminated/sacked Thessalonica?
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Elberhard would cry out but Lothar would protect you, so would most of the Lutheran diet.

Elberhard was pretty explicit about that contingency:
Quote:
Once it falls, the Kaiser instructs you to occupy the city - not exterminate or sack it. We are to gift our Eastern Roman brothers a fine, healthy city - not a traumatised husk. Failure to comply with this instruction may lead to severe consequences. For example, you would probably be walking, not sailing, home. And Household Army Otto would be reduced to minimum legal size.

Numbers are good for me, then...
Meh, I'll see what happens: if they press me hard, sack it is. If not...
I've got some more work to do. I'll have to take the save after Aussiegiant takes it.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
It's a long walk to Bavaria...
It's a gamble. On one hand, the Kaiser might not want to anger a third house. On the other, Bavaria might not want an angry Kaiser. It's like a big game of chicken... :laugh4:
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Meh, the walk Hans was forced to make under Fredericus was carrying infantry from Vienna all the way to Aleppo. Talk about long...
And Salier specifically authorized me to use boats.

At this point, Lothar already feels like he cannot rely on anything outside of Bavaria, so angering Elberhard would mean nothing to him. If he had his way, the borders would be lined with fortresses manned by Bavarian armies. Bavaria would be concerned only about itself while the rest of the Reich continued to fall apart. Batten down the hatches, boys! There are rough seas ahead!
Of course, I'm sure some of this is due to my OOC knowledge, but I'm conceding some RP irregularities simply due to the difficulty of being a Player and a DM simultaneously.

You do bring up a good point on regionalism in this game. I am fascinated with how the cataclysm is going to influence it.

When I was your age I had to walk to school in a blizzard with no shoes for 80 miles uphill both ways... ^_^

Uphill both ways? Sounds like an Escher work....

I love Escher.
But I suspected we were going to get into a contest on who's avatar has walked farther in the game so I decided to one up everyone.
I also walked to school through volcanoes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, alien invasions, asteroid hits, and two nuclear holocausts.
Your turn...
How far has your avatar walked? ^_^

Surprisingly I got a name change.
Arnold the Mighty, I guess middle age is mellowing him :beam:
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Hum... This is embarrassing, sort of...
So, first, I've had way more work than I imagined. And I'm not finished yet, so I've got to work some more. I've got 2 hours to finish before I go to bed, and that's making my time limited.
So, as I'm taking a break right now, I thought "I'll see if I can fight my battle now". Unfortunately, there are 2 problems:
- AG still has the save, which is not the least of my bothers, EDIT: Actually, I see he's finished with it now. Ah, that doesn't change what's coming after,
-the 1.3 patch, which I hadn't needed until now, and which I planned to install right now, is a large 520MB file. And my USB key is only 487MB. And my MII worthy laptop doesn't have an internet access. So, I can't transfer the 1.3 patch from this computer to my laptop. And because of this, I can't fight the battle, if I understood correctly.
So, I'm trying to earn your forgiveness. I can't fight the battle, therefore it will have to be auto-resolved. If Friedrich wins, and the city is taken, then I'd like it sacked, please.
Quick-edit: Hey, I don't actually have to fight the battle this turn, right? So if I wait next turn, I'll be able to fight it manually. Umm, any problems with waiting? Once again, sorry!
Edit2: And now, I'm logging off for the night, and won't be able to access the Org until 12 GMT+2.

Didn't Hans change to "The Mauler"?
Yeah, there's a bunch of title changes lately. ^_^
Jan got The Merciful to try and balance out the 200 people with the title The Merciless. :balloon2:

Yeah, tell me about it. 21 was cool. 25 gives you a slightly cheaper car insurance. After that, b-days become utterly pointless. 26,27, and 28 bled one into the other. I'm sure 30 will be a big deal but not for any good reasons. :shame:

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
21 will be nothing important for me, in Holland you can do more or less anything after 16 (drinking, smoking, the like) or 18 (driving, "Dutch vegetables")
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
At 19, I wonder if I'm older than average... Probably not. I'll ask again in two months. :beam:
Anyways, I'm taking the save.

Yeah well I live in a country that has decided that you can't drink until your 21 but you can enlist in the Army at age 17 if your parents sign consent. Figure that out... :dizzy2:

haha, but im in america with PK so its still illegal to do that stuff.

BTW econ, I added a few choice buildings to the repair queue so Bucharest won't riot. Just FYI so you can review them and make the final decision, hope I didn't overstep my authority.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
gibson, you can at least start driving at 16 right? Not exactly sure of that.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
TC, if it makes you feel any better I caught the reference. :laugh4:
As far as ages in the US goes, generally driving restrictions go by state. In NJ for example I got my permit at 16 (can only drive with licensed driver accompanying) and my Cinderella license at 17 (can drive alone, but no more than two other passengers in the car). I'll get the standard license at 18.
Voting is at 18, drinking/gambling is at 21.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
i can drive at 16, but my birthday lies so perfectly that i couldnt have gotten my permit over the summer thru the school, and im not getting it privately. i started school a bit early, so im a junior, so id rather be a junior not driving than a sophomore driving.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I caught that reference too. At least in Singapore, we can drink/drive/vote at 18, the age that we are drafted. But no watching of naked women/overly violent movies before 21. That's what I call stupid.

This would be a day faster than the 1 turn/2 days pace I planned, but I will be unable to get to a computer that can play M2TW on Friday and Saturday, so it should balance out.
We may have to wait just a bit for the next turn. It's a long weekend here might as well enjoy the great weather were having.:2thumbsup:

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Well, In Canada it varries from province to province, It's 19 here in Ontario, but in Quebec it's only 18, I went a lot after my 18 b-day (I'm 21)
edit: drinking that is, driving is 16, not sure about military service I think 18.

No problem - as long as I know what people have done and can reverse it, they can use their initiative. Did you make a note of your battle stats?

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
So we come to it at last...
CHAOS! CATACLYSM! ARMAGEDDON!
:jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping:
Ok, enough already. I am going to post a provisional report on 1312 soon. There is a minor battle that Dutch_guy needs to fight before I end 1312. As I will be away from M2TW until Sunday night, we are going to have to leave it there and not press "end turn". So in character, we are late in 1312 - too late to do anything, but we can comment on what has happened and plan what to do in 1314.
We are virtually at the stage we planned for 1320 - order is breaking down and so you can contact me as gamesmaster to make individual orders for what your character does. You can defy Elberhard, your Duke etc. I will try to make moves on the map that I think plausible given the character's wishes or, if I don't know your wishes, what I assume would be his wishes. I would like to avoid player vs player battles, as the focus on the cataclysm is going to be on fighting the AI, not each other. But if they do arise, we can find a way of modelling them.
Where you are physically perhaps should start affecting Diet speeches. When all hell breaks loose, your character probably is not going to be commuting back to Rome to pontificate. Writing stories or sending PMs might be a better way of role-playing player interactions. (Perhaps some PM exchanges could be posted as stories). Elberhard will be stuck in Acre, so he won't be doing Q&A sessions. The Diet Speaker may step in, but he may also prove susceptible to Theodora's charms. Be gentle with him.
It's probably best not to toggle the fog of war, but if you do see Matthias Steffen catching some sun, don't believe it - it's just a mirage.
In recognition of the cataclysm, we will open a new OOC thread.
