I've played 8 or 9 mafia games, and in every one lurking mafia win; yet when I propose lynching lurkers it's always: "let 'em get WoG'd, don't waste a lynch." And I listen and comply, and lurkers win. :laugh4:
Thank you Andres for the incredible amount of work you poured into this project. It was truly worthy of being THE mafia game for org's 10th anniversary. :bow:

I think the problem is whenever we have followed the lynch the lurkers strategy we lynch off some innocent lurkers and then give up and return to lynching active players...Quote:

The ninja's got a plain 'innocent' result, and neither the summary nor diary refer to it. Whatever it was, it sure got him (BG) suspicious of me - enough to kill me. This was before I became a candidate as traitor recruit, if I get the timing accurately. If I'm wrong, that might explain it.

I think its main fail as a strategy is that we dont stay the course... i think if we were much stronger in our lynching of lurkers then people simply wouldn't lurk... though then in the end we'd come back to the lurkers must be innocent because they know they would be lynched otherwise...
Problem is there are players who always lurk, and don't mind being lynched for it once in a while.
I never planned on lurking as much as I did. I wanted to continue to participate as I did in the beginning but RL got in the way. I always ended up not being able to be online during most of the discussions. At the end there wasn't much of a point since none of the alive people suspected me.
Thanks to Andres for hosting the game, it was a lot of fun.
Wonderfully complex and challenging. Well done Andres. I truly had nothing aside from inklings as to who to lynch. Too many leads, none really pursued properly.
Congrats to Ichigo and the Ninja team. Ninjutsu over bushido this time. Banzai!

It is funny how different things effect the teams. My crazy act seemed to attract the attention and concern of the traitors, but I never hit the radar on the ninja team. Likewise, the LG gang was a concern of the ninjas, but not a concern of the traitors (apparently).
Here's a summary of my (very) brief role in the game. I had planned from before the start of the game that my character would be a nut case. When confronted with something new (the mafia game), one must go with ones strength. :laugh4: When I got the geisha role, my plan stayed the same, but the crazy act became a cover for my real role.
The Name Fiasco
I knew I my cover story was a samurai so I played a male. When Andres revealed the randomess of the names and a few other players checked their names, I did too. Unfortunately, my random cover name was female. I therefore reasoned that other players would have female names too and further, that some of the townies would have to be female just to provide some "cover" for the two geishas. Therefore, since I had already announced my cover name in public and anyone who would bother to check it would find it a female name, I decided to have some fun and "discover" that I was in fact female. I panicked a few hours afterwards when I realized only a few players were revealing they character names and I just announced to the world that I was female.:bullseye: My only hope was that I my character was so crazy that nobody would know what to believe. I can't gauge from the quicktopic discussions whether my reveal was a factor. The traitors did investigate me and discovered my geishahood (peeping Toms!!) :angryg: but I don't know if the decision to investigate me was made before or after.

Night 1 I did nothing. My special abilities were to protect and/or block my target. I didn't know who to protect other than the Lord Winter (hindsight says I should have). As far as blocking, I had an equal chance of blocking a bad guy from killing (good) or preventing a townie role from performing his task (bad). Therefore my choice to sit tight. On Night 2, I decided to work my charms on the brazenly bold Sasaki who was much too agressive to be up to any good. Much to my surprise, I spent a glorious night with the virile Lord Shingen. :loveg: I was finally on the inside and able to coordinate my activities with Sasaki behind the scenes. Unfortunately, on Night 3 I died so nothing became of it. Had I lived, Beskar would have been the recipient of my womanly attention on Night 3. And so my spirit wandered the grounds for over a week, until I found my true love. At first we were separated by the temporary barrier between life and death. But finally he joined me in death. I speak, of course, of the manly Wishazu. Be still my heart, but that man KNOWS how to kiss a pillow! :winkg:
And such was the boringly uneventful, short life of a geisha in her first mafia game. It would have been nice to have lived a little long and have my abilities utilized in a more useful and directed manner, especially having been fortunate enough to have hooked up with the known core of towniedom in Sasaki,his (unknown) bodyguards, and CA. :bow:
An awesome game by Andres, hallmark of the 10th Anniversary. Too bad I couldn't participate much, midst of exam periods :book:.

I must offer apologies for letting the town down. What a newb! :embarassed: Especially as my reveal was clearly a round early. Too much paranoia, I'm afraid.
I still don't understand why my investigation of Kukri produced this:

Then when Kukri started trying to lynch me a second time, he convinced me that I had better act and reveal - especially since we didn't realise our success at the time and the town was running around like headless chickens. I hoped the innocent list would give some focus, but the fact that it couldn't be guaranteed as innocent, actually made things worse. We speculated on the possible hidden and confused ourselves. In retrospect, the innocent list did far more damage and since Kukri wasn't hunting me down (sorry mate, no hard feelings - I used ricin so it would have been quick!) we would have got Ichigo next round. D'oh.
On wider mafia games, it seems to me that any game that forbade lurking would benefit. This time, I lurked deliberately for a long time and got away with it - my first game I contributed with gusto and roleplay as Greg did this time, and was dead in short order. Amazingly, I learnt in this game that lurking still pays off, whereas I would have thought it should be the first tactic of the town to lynch everyone who doesn't participate fully. If there are ever any games that have a no lurking rule, and compulsory role-play, I may dip my toe in the mafia water again.

Funny, I thought early on that since Sasaki was the real Shingen, Ichigo would then have a role as well, probably the Ninja Master...
Kept it to myself cause I couldn't take it seriously myself... Was wrong anyway, and yet not so...
I'd have tried to at least challenge but was afraid to risk of possibly compromising my role in the write-up.
I think you made the right choice in revealing--I would have assumed kukri was guilty from that write up.
The innocent list was less useful what with it being assumed (rightly) that the ninja master came up innocent.
The reason for the difference in the write-up of the investigation on Kukri is very trivial: I didn't like the write-up of the first result and I wanted a shorter, easier format. In retrospect, I should have gone for a dry "innocent" or "guilty" without adding anything else.
Sorry about that.

BG, I would have drawn the same conclusions regarding Kukri based on those PMs. Revealing was the right thing to do. You had one guilty result and a second result that you had perfectly good reasons for thinking was off. Most detectives don't get to take down even one mafioso, so a shot at two was well worth revealing.

@Banquo's Ghost: no harm, no foul. I'd have made the same decision, given the same feedback. And timing a pro-town reveal is always the toughest decision to make in these games IMO. You gotta get the info out there, to help the town, and you gotta do it before you're killed. The two times I've revealed (once as Rogue Detective, once as Resurrector) I was one turn too late to help.
The only hint that Ichigo was dirty was that he was NOT lurking -- but there are plenty of games where he hasn't so.....
