Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
As d'Arthez said, create a new shortcut to Rome-TW.exe and edit the target line by adding: -mod:eb -show_err -ne -nm
Use this to start EB.
1.2 and the fixes for 1.2 are strictly recommended for best game experience. Be careful where to point the 1.2 installer to, it has to go into the main RTW folder.
If you are using Vista/Win7, don't install RTW+EB into Program Files!

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Ok, so I tried adding the thing to the target line, and it says that its not a valid name. Thanks for the help though!
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
"....Rome-TW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne -nm
Please check again for spelling mistakes, you need a space character after "...Rome-TW.exe"

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Okay so the name change just worked. I spelled something wrong. Thank you, you just made my month!
Anyway, what should i do now? Do i just click the edited shortcut to launch EB.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Before starting playing EB you have to read the EB-FAQ as EB features great changes compared to Vanilla...
Afterwards you use the created shortcut.
If you encounter technical problems, start by looking here for informations and guides first.
Have a great campaign!

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
I have a problem with the EB and shorcuts or something...
I have uninstalled and reinstalled RTW vanilla and patches, EB 1.1 and 1.2 and the 3 other fix files twice and I have the same problem twice. I followed the tutorial, but when I use the shortcut for singleplayer (I have windows 7 and use CDs, not steam) the starting little picture will appear like normal, dissapear and then I will get a glimpse of the first full screen picture and then it will exit to desktop and close itself down. I tried changing the configurations to windowed and no movies and still it does not help. Also, when I try to launch the Trivial Script, I get an error on line 122 column 39 in the data/text/descr.shortcuts.txt. I also replaced the target for the Rome-TW.exe and that does not help at all.
The RTW and EB files are not in Program Files either... I am so lost right now. Do you know what might be happening?
Thank you

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Hello and welcome to the org!
Are you using a no-CD crack? EB does not support that.
Please run Vanilla and see if that works without problems.
Run validateInstall.bat found in your main RTW folder and post your results here (in spoilers).

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Well , lol . All was fine one year ago. But I saw a post here and what? Should I install RTR and then Barbarian or vice versa. Thou the problem I have is ''fail to open sound database'' quite annoying and o saw other threads here complaining about that but none of the answers worked for me. I'm just confused cuz i installed everything normally the last year and it's the first time this problem happens. I hope you can help me :).
Further more , yeah , I did not install the game to Program files as well as I copied and pasted the files to another folder. Same shit. ''Failed to open database!''
I also moved this to another folder ''The Creative Assembly'' Same , game crashes!
I did nothing more or less like the first time i installed this and it worked and what makes this worse is that you are giving out hundreds or ''solutions'' for a damn thing and , lol none of them is working. Too much complicated and fml im using vista.
If there is no solution for Vista , just say it please . Do not waste our time.
Here are 2 screens of the files

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
EB needs a 100% clean version of RTW, don't install it along with other mods, use a copy of RTW for every mod you are using.

The problem is that i remember to have installed EB over RTW 1.5 , and now it does not work ? Wtf , maybe I should not even install RTW 1.5?
-
Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
As I said above, help yourself to a clean RTW 1.5 version (outside Programmi while using Vista/Win7) and install EB into that, you shouldn't have problems there.
Stick to this installation guide.
If you have any further questions post back here!

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Hey guys, just wanted to share some (should be obvious unless you are an idiot like me) knowledge about a problem which I kept running into: anti-virus software. Yes even those which seemingly never interfere with installation of a game can cause some problems.
First of all, before installing EB MAKE SURE TO PAUSE YOUR PROTECTION! This will save you about as much frustration as trying to answer a four year old who keeps asking "Why?" Mainly, my problem was that I could install EB, but the launch icons would never show up, the EB script would give me errors, and I could not launch the game because there was no way to launch it.
I disabled protection, re-installed EB 1.1 and guess what? I'll save you the details but it ended with me facepalming my head so hard at my own stupidity that I think I could feel shockwaves pulsating through to the back of my skull (I'll go get that checked out at the doctor's office later). The important thing is that the downloads were never corrupt and now I can finally enjoy EB!
Sincerely,
The EB Total War Forums Village Idiot

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
I am getting the following message during EB setup
"An error occurred while trying to read the source file: the source file is corrupted"
3 options: abort, retry, ignore. Retry same issue again. I have noticed this message is only appearing with .wav files. Any advice please?

I would also like the answer to this question, I have a clean install of Rome Total War Gold Edition and I've downloaded the mod and the fixes for it. I just don't want to risk derping it all up.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Don't set Steam to Offline-Mode, this should do the trick ;)

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
The latest post is two years old, is still possible to get support on EB's installation? It's the first time I try this MOD. Or my question will go into oblivion?

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
You gotta help me, guys... I'm upset!~:mecry:
I've installed RTW, patched it to 1.3 before and 1.5 then, made a copy of the whole RTW folder and named it "Europa Barbarorum". Then I've installed EB 1.1 setting C:\Programmi\Activision\Europa Barbarorum as path, I've also installed EB 1.2, always choosing the same folder. Now why the hell I can't run the MOD? If I click Play starts the normal game, RTW. If I try to click Run Europa Barbarorum or Run Europa Barbarorum (troubleshooting) nothing happens.

Can someone help Matteo out here?

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Hope they'll read my post. Thanks, as always.
Edit: I tried to install EB into the main RTW folder, not the copy, and now it works. I also installed the three tools (EB Trivial Script, Recruitment Viewer and EB Documentation) into the EB subfolder, while the other times I installed them separately, could it depends on this?
Moreover, if I run Validate Installation I get this.

What does that mean? And what's the difference between Validate Install and Validate Installation?

I'm not sure about the trivial script, but the location of the other two shouldn't matter.
As for the validation: if the mod works, the validation is unimportant. Validation only matters when there are problems.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Look, Ludens, and what if I want to install EB with Barbarian Invasion installed into RTW folder? I found this -> https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...arian-Invasion, always on this forum. I have to use that?

(The submod you linked to is an adaptation of EB that uses the BI expansion rather than base R:TW. Some people prefer it because it has a few extra features and the computer is supposedly a bit smarter. But it doesn't make a big difference.)
Anyway, you wrote:

So I thought you got EB working. Are you still having problems?

No, read better, Ludens...

... EB works now. But, you know, I read it's possible to create as many copies of RTW folder as the MODs which someone wants to use, leaving the original folder "untouched". Why can't I do the same?

I don't know. Maybe you installed EB in the wrong folder; maybe its due to Windows security settings; maybe it's something else. I can't tell that from here. But if EB works, you don't need to bother with the install validator.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
Yes, I got it about the validation, now that's not the problem. The problem is try to figure out why I can't run EB on copies of RTW folder.
I'll keep looking up for a solution, should I need help, I'll write here. Thanks, mod.

Re: A guide to install EB, screenshots provided
OK, here's some tips, hoping they can help someone in the future.
1) At the beginning, I had two folders in C:\Program Files\Activision: Rome - Total War, the clean RTW folder with BI installed (so 1.5 version for RTW and 1.6 for BI) and his copy, renamed Europa Barbarorum, in which I had installed EB (that's why I had given it that name). But, if you read my previous posts, for some unknown reasons, I couldn't get working EB. So I removed it with Revo Uninstaller (it's a software for uninstalls in depth) and installed EB again, this time in the original folder. The MOD ran fine.
2) As I wasn't completely satisfied (I wanted to leave the original folder untouched, so I could use it to make a copy whenever I needed to try a new MOD), I removed EB again, RTW and BI included, because I had installed it on the main folder this time. So I reinstalled the game and the expansion then, updated them to 1.5 and 1.6 and created the usual copy as the first passage. Basically, I went back to the start (as the Coldplay's song, The Scientist ~D), the only difference was that this time I renamed the original folder (Rome - Total War) as RTW vanilla and the copy as the original (Rome - Total War). See the image below.
https://i.imgur.com/hkZ3I4F.png
The whole thing worked, now I have EB running on the folder copy, and I can use the original folder to play RTW or BI vanilla or to make another copy for when I'll want to play a different MOD. I don't know, but guess the problem depended on the name folder, when I used "Europa Barbarorum" the MOD didn't work, when I used another name (in my case "Rome - Total War", but I think any other name goes well anyway) it worked.
If someone has better explanations, feel free to write.~;)
