Promotion is not based on postcount, but on participation. All that is required for promotion is a bit of patience and that you post regularly in a friendly and helpfull manner. Blatant spamming will, at best, delay promotion.Quote:

Welcome to the .org all new members!
Hi everyone.
My name is Mike, and I'm a game-aholic.:shame:
I've been playing MTW on-and-off since the "Battle Collection" edition came out, but I have been playing video games almost my whole life.
I haven't played for almost an hour now.:sweatdrop:
Aren't we all ?Quote:

Actually I have a question, but idk if this is the right thread. Aah, o well, here it goes anyway.Quote:

I'm not too artistic, so I just used the unit graphics for other units (Ex. I used the Swiss Armoured Pikemen artwork for my pikemen unit, and the Lancers artwork for my bodyguard unit) and renamed them and fooled with the stats a little bit. The thing is, I gave them all pavises to use as shields, but since I just copied everything for the artwork, most of the units don't have the pavises on the battle map.
:help:
I was wondering, could explain to me how I could get my units to carry around a pavise on the battle map (I don't care too much about having it in the other places, like the strategy map unit descriptions or uniticon panel)? Along the same lines, I gave all my cavalry swords instead of the lances they would usually have, so could I get the lances to go away and have them fight with swords instead? Lastly, I took the javelins away from the Spanish Jinetes and gave them bows instead (this one is really funny; they pick up a javelin, make a throwing motion with it, and an arrow flies out of the middle of the spear:laugh4: ); can I make the bows show up too?
Greatings!
Another noob here, started playing a week ago, yes years later there is STILL someone starting with Rome total war, this game is awsome.
Just wanted to say hi, you seem like a great bunch and I'm hoping to be a productive and suporting member of the comunity (or not) :charge:

Hello to all. Trying to learn much about shogun. I lost my manual for shogun total war, Warlord edition. I have no access code, is tehr anything i can do??????????????? Help
Welcome bowrestt and everyone else. Sorry, I don't have Shogun so I can't really help you out, but I'm sure someone will be along soon that can give you a hand.
Another question I came up with: How do I get an Avatar that isn't one of the default choices? I have this one that I use in the Civfanatics forums and AIM and I'd like to use that here too, but I didn't see a place for custom Avatars. Can I use an Avatar that isn't one of the default ones?
Hmm...It seems like traffic cops only come around when I Don't want them too, but I guess I'll wait and see.Quote:

Thanks. There were a few things I wanted to change (like the stupid thing where you can have the right building to build crossbows but can't actually train them until 1205), and I figured while I was at it I should make a couple more things different, mostly so the game fit my play style better.Quote:

Another mod related question, just in case someone comes around who can help me with this (and so I don't forget what it was I wanted to ask again :dizzy2:). Is there any way I can get my generals to stop dying of old age? I still want my king to do so, because that has an impact on the actual game play. All that happens when a regular old general or an heir that no longer has claim to the throne dies is the unit gets renamed and there is a new picture when you click on the army. The vnv doesn't change any, and the unit count doesn't go down any, so I don't really see a reason for generals to die of old age (other than for more realism I guess, but then again the player is some omnipresent being that is aware instantly of everything going on in his realm, and can force the group of 25 peasants to charge uphill at the formation of knights, and I don't see that as being too realistic, its even a little bit of why I like the game). This isn't something I would usually rant about, but I hate it when I finally start realizing what all my generals are good for, then they die of old age and I have to learn all the new names. Plus, I think a 400 year old El Cid would be pretty cool. :dizzy2: :laugh4:

Hi fellow TW fans. I'm actually a long time reader of this forum and I may have registered at one point years ago but can't remember.
I've played TW since 2000 and still play all three games (inc expansions) regularly. I tend to play vh/vh full campaigns and I think I've played all factions. I'm really looking forward to MTW2.
Welcome to the .org all new members! :balloon2:
Welcome Kiter, have a good time at this awesome site!
-ZainDustin
hey all - noob to the forum, not to the game though - played MTW constantly for the last few years, but am just getting into RTW/BI in the last month or so.
Great forum you have here, never thought much about the complexity of the game until I read some of the mechanics posts - great stuff
Welcome Kiter and Devil.
Wow this thread grows fast, doesn't it? 20 posts in a day and a half. That's just over a post every 2 hours. Wow. Yay new people.

Short answer: there isn't. I don't know the answer to your other modding question, but I posted it in the Alchemist Lab so I hope there will be an answer shortly. As for editing, you will get the edit button once you are full member.Quote:

Salute Org,
My first post, I send greeting to all members here. Lots of members here I know in the TotalWar community, would be nice to share advises and good words within this community. Greetings again.

Hi folks,
I've been playing TW games since Shogun was first released (I got it the day it came out in the UK so I even have the t-shirt kicking around somewhere).
I enjoyed M:TW, but wasn't impressed by R:TW. So I'm hoping that EB will be a pretty decent mod (if I can ever get it to work:embarassed: ).
About me: I live in Blantyre in Scotland and I love Military History, wargames (miniatures & computer) and Stoner Rock music.
So a big hello to everyone on the forum!

Hi, I'm new here
I've played Total War since Shogun, with a little Medieval thrown in the middle.
The new RTW is a huge improvement to RTW:MI, and I can't wait to see what the Creative Assembly has in store for RTW:MI2

Ave Animal ~! Welcome to the Org!
And I too am excited. Hope it's an interesting game.
hello everybody~
Welcome Animal!
Greetings of the Battle Day
Let me begin by stating that it feels a great honour for me to join your ranks, at last, as a newbie. I've been playing MTW since its inception and will start on RTW as soon as I've completed played all MTW factions on Expert. I find Medieval to be the single most satisfying game I've ever played. Its subtlety and sophistication bear little relation to any other game, ever. I missed out on Shogun, which seems a terrible shame though I'm sure I'll get around to fully appreciating it in the near future.
I'd like to thank all the contributors to the Org for the vast improvement to my game that studying here has enabled. Special thanks go to Frogbeastegg, Ludens, Cheetah, Doug-Thompson and Katank, in no special order [deep bows], although all of you who have, through careful observation, produced useful insight into the world of Total War, are worthy of long and eloquent praise [full bow, eyes unaverted].
Favourite campaign so far: Russia, High/Hard. It's simply amazing what 2-3 units of halbs, 2 arbs, 2 druz and 1-2 boyars can acheive, (with the right morale bonuses for the infantry, of course) against practically any odds!
Favourite unit: Horse Archers, all varieties, Boyars especially.
Favourite personal innovation: Introducing Nietzchean civil service exams into my faction, whereby spammed assassins are then set upon my own other agents, thereby soon producing many high valour agents and assassins without upsetting the other factions diplomatically. Never have a priest or emmissary assassinated or a spy discovered by another faction again!
I look forward to the day we can multiplay the whole total war game and not merely the tactical aspect, satisfying though that is.
I'm would also like to make the singleplayer MTW game more complex and difficult for myself: which mod(s) would you recommend and why? (Don't use any at present)
I have much to learn from you,
thus respectfully yours,
gNostic Heretic :book:
Welcome, gNostic Heretic and others.
Very nice entry Heretic :2thumbsup:. I find that I must echo your statements about how helpful many of the veterns here are, as I probably wouldn't have thought to say those things myself.
To address the questions at the bottom of your post: From what I've read, what mods you would find best probably depend on what time period you are looking for. There are some good pre-MTW mods, and there are some good post- mods as well (Napoleanic comes to mind; such a masterpiece. I tred it a bit, and it was like a completely different game compared to Medieval; tactics, strategy, and just about everything else is different. This may be one for you to look into, as I found it both more complicated and harder), then there are some totally different ones (there is a Middle Earth mod based on Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, and a MTW redue of Shogun Total War). There are also many that just add more options to the standard MTW, like more units, factions, artwork, etc. My internet is pretty slow, and my computer is stupid, so download and play these mods I have not, but reading some of the threads for them make them seem promising enough. My best advise: explore the Engineers Guild. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=40.
What I have done is created my own mod. I think it might be good for you to try, especially since most mods aim at keeping the game balanced, so it is neither harder nor easier for the player. It also gave me a much better understanding of the game (and even more appreciation for the people who made the game and those you mentioned who wrote guides and FAQs). What I did was made a new faction with new units, making the game easier for me. I then played it on Expert difficulty level (I had been playing on Normal). I found this made the kind of balance I was looking for, as well as allowed me to change some of the more annoying parts of Medieval I didn't like (projectilestats, I'm looking at you :glares:). There are tons of great tools and modding guides in the Alchemist Lab and Repository, so I would suggest you consider that too. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=69
Well, I hope I was able to help you some, and again, welcome to the Org!
Hello Guild members! Just another newbie to the community. I purchased a Gold Edition copy of Roman Total War/Barbarian Invasion last week, and I have to say, as I start my first campaign game (long, and in easy mode, just for grins), I have to say this is the most engaging game I've ever played. I love watching the psychological development of my faction family members, the combat level aspect of the game (which I'm still breaking myself in on slowly), and the building of armies, viable cities, and the diplomatic and political relationship features of the game. To the veterans, I'm sure this sounds old hat to you. I don't think of myself as the typical gamer, being a middle aged guy with a book collecting hobby. :book: I was a history major in college and have read a great deal of ancient history. So the game touches my historical interests as well. As some newbies have already said before, I am deeply indebted to several veterans of this site - frogbeastegg, Aescuplius amd Quietus in particular, for their advice posts. They have provided some excellent counsel on the game that the manual doesn't give, and have saved me a lot of trouble and time in trial and error. :ballchain:
I don't know how often I'll post myself, but I do love reading the comments of those on this site. Some of the adventures are fascinating. My current game is with the cash poor Julii and I have just a few provinces subdued. So it's early. Thank you for letting me be a part of your community!
welcome to the org. germanicus
