Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Welcome back to the .Org Kensai
Oh and the name is very familiar, yet I couldn't give you more details, I've only returned at the beginning of this year myself after ceasing my visits sometime in 2005 due to lack of time for games and whatnot sigh. The rest are sure to remember him and have some idea though.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hi All,
I am new to the Total War Franchise. Currently playing RTW gold (system cannot play anything newer). Have lots of queries which I hope you all will help me with.
Dream to buy a new laptop so that I can play ETW and NTW (I like the gunpowder era the most) but currently cant afford anything at all so content with reading
the posts you all put in the NTW and ETW forums :)
I bring to this forum a perspective from India, (ETW ppl perhaps might like this since India is a major theater in that game). So far thats all I can offer I am afraid.
Hope to catch a thing or two on modding so that once I have a decent system I can mod the Punjab faction ( my homeland ) into a playable faction with accurate units

Welcome jaspritsingh!
And yes, we're a bit heavy on yanks and europeans around here, definitely good to have fresh blood from the other side of the globe.
Might I suggest going for a custom-made desktop PC by the by? You get the same tech for less than half the price of the laptop.

Thanks Nowake,
I travel to my city of work every monday and come home for the weekend. So I prefer a laptop that I can lug around.

Well it is great to be back..
I first joined the org in mid 2008 when I had just finished playing original Shogun and got right into medieval..
Well I drifted away for a while but just bought my copy of Shogun 2 and thought I would reconnect..
Looking forward to it!

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hello, everybody. This is my first post here. Thank you to everyone for diligently assembling a thoroughly amazing catalog of information and advice for us TW enthusiasts. I just discovered "Rome: Total War" a couple of months ago. I only found it because it appears in the Top 20 of several "best PC games of all-time" lists.
I started my first RTW campaign with the Brutii, and have been browsing this site for numerous tips along the way. Now at 44 regions and preparing to invade Roma, I've begun thinking about my next campaign. I'd like to try Britannia's corner position, with its advantage of border seclusion and challenge of distance from Greece's wonders.
I also recently discovered the slew of other games in the TW franchise. I just ordered "Medieval II: Total War" because it uses the same game engine. Between M2TW and RTW and their modding options, I've got gameplay for the rest of my life. And I might add that I got both RTW and M2TW for less than $10 each -- including shipping. Thanks to ebay for that!
For any "Rome: Total War" newbies... here are my top two starters' tips:
- Having too many armies will hurt your profits big-time. All ungoverned cities should have only 1-2 peasants, unless fighting is imminent. This is crucial in the beginning, when you think you need lots of armies (but really should focus on trade and building your empire's economy). Any armies you do have should be out fighting. If you leave a huge garrison sitting in a random city for more than one turn, you are throwing away profits.
- Build up a big navy and make sure each ship icon contains at least three ship units. Start early. This makes everything easier. Soon you'll have several three-ship groups, which gives you the ultimate flexibility to manage your empire and expand as needed. First, you won't have any problems with those annoying Rebel and Greek fleets that come around only looking to destroy your ships. Second, you can eventually have enough three-ship groups to blockade all ports owned by a particular faction (useful to slow an enemy's growth before you invade). Also, you can have 100% confidence that you will be able to safely transport troops over water simply by using any three-ship group (with at least 60 soldiers total).
I know that last segment belongs in the RTW forums. But since this is my required first post, I figured I'd throw out a little general analysis for any newbies who stumble upon this post.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Welcome Vibius Drummicus!
Excellent first post.
If and when you exhaust yourself on Rome Total War, go ahead and download the free Rome total realism mod. It converts your game into what amounts to a whole new experience and I highly, highly enjoyed it.
But put off doing that for a while. Both the original game and the converted mod are extremely engrossing and I would love for you to get hooked on one for a while, and then later on get hooked on the other. Each one has their merits, and it does change the feel of the game.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hello all!
There's probably a few people, ATPG included, who'll recognise me; I hail from another forum a bit like this where, among other things, I play a little mafia. :D I hear there's a thriving Mafia-playing community here, so I thought I'd join up and see what all the fuss was about. Total War also seems like an interesting game, which I've heard a lot of good stuff about, so I'll likely have a look at that as well. So see you guys around! :)
Quick edit: Oh, and I'm from New Zealand.
