Aargh! Hungarians! Curses! Looks like Leo has to turn back again...NB, if I were you I'd retreat to Wien where you can wait out a siege until I get back to relieve you. Or try a sally with the troops there but I don't like your chances as you have no horse to speak of and not many missiles.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Ya, I am going to have to fall back to Wien and make a stand there, hopefully reinforcement arrive in time. If any additional troops can be trained there it would greatly improve my chances of surviving an assault if you can't make it soon.
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I can get back there this turn to relieve the siege, or potentially just send back some troops for you while I carry on to Innsbruck and hire more mercs.
We'll see when we get the next save.
Hopefully this is the last major Hungarian army for a little while, eh?

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Yes please, I don't even understand where that army came from.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Pope Gregory has control of various pits of Hell scattered throughout Europe. He simply spawned the army from the most convenient one.

An impressive battle Tristan, I hope you post something about it in the Battle Reports thread. I take it most of your casualties were from the crossbows?

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Who is going to take Harold Merode?
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
We had someone new post about getting an avatar a while back, didn't we? If he can't be found I think Ignoramus is next.
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Ok I looked back over the thread and I think this is the list, in order, of people waiting for an avatar:
- mini
- Ignoramus
- Zim
Cecil is that right? Do you want to drop mini a pm?
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Sorry about missing the French turn - I plead first week first year uni.
If mini doesn't show up then I'm happy to take Harold.

Igno, why are you even on this forum right now?! Go back out there and keep making terrible decisions! :charge:

I'll be sure to post something in the Battle report thread though there'll be few screenshots, the battle was too tense for me to think about taking some...
The casualties were mostly from Xbows though not as much as one would think... I managed to keep them on the move, preventing them from reloading... I could perhaps have achieved better results if I had managed to kill the army general sooner...
I had my finger on the Withdraw button when the Victory screen appeared.
Cavalry truely rules !! :charge:

Not so much... After the first charge, most missile units were on the move and I had only to run after them until sufficient losses made them rout... Same goes for the peasants... A single well-timed charge made them rout as well. The first militia unit routed when charged from the rear by the mercs while trying to catch my general.
My biggest problem and fear was the last militia unit... I was down to less than 15 men overall against 100... And with men exhausted with meant that their charges were almost without effect...
Oh, and thanks for all the praise ... I had to make do with what I had or have Lothar sit on his butt doing nothing...

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
In terms of the "marching west from Magdeburg to get to Frankfurt" thing (see the Diet post), Theo can't reach the city with infantry this turn. However, if he marches west before this turn ends, he'll get pretty close to the city, and it would only take a couple more tiles of movement to get there on the next turn. Therefore, I'm thinking the movement order for TCV and myself in the next turn or two should go something like this:
- This turn, TCV moves west with his army.
- Turn ends
- Next turn, TCV moves a few more tiles west and is in position to reinforce the assault on Frankfurt
- I assault Frankfurt with TCV's army as reinforcement
- TCV takes the save and heads back east

Ha ha, no kidding. Actually I'm surprised, I always figured you were older than me Igno.
Incidentally, I've sent a PM to mini. He's not been on the .Org since January though, so if I don't get a response by the start of the next turn than I'll go and hand Harolde to Ignoramus.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
We should be careful not to bite off more than we can chew in Poland. They are likely to have some large armies back there.
We do have a rule in place that the capture of a settlement should be authorised by Edict in the Diet - I don't think it's strict and we certainly haven't been enforcing it so far, but maybe the plan of attack on Poland (and of course Milan once Innsbruck is recaptured) should be discussed so we can work as a team? Might be easier to do this here OOC though...

As a general rule, it's best to discuss things IC rather than OOC whenever possible. It provides for a more immersive and enjoyable experience.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Quick update: phonics, I'm going to try to get to your PM, but I turn 21 (and am American) in the next hour and a half or so and fully plan to spend the next 48-ish hours drunk. Therefore, I may not be in a real position to answer you or anyone else for a bit. :medievalcheers:

Mate, you go for it as hard as you can. We'll see what pieces of you are left afterwards!
EDIT: and of course, Happy Birthday!

Congratulations, Hankie! May I call you Hankie?

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I'm older as well, although not surprised. I remember him saying he was around 16ish back when I was finishing college and playing here. :clown:
Happy Birthday!

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I feel like I'm playing with kids in the kindergarten... I feel old suddenly, so old...
And Joyeux Anniversaire, GH !!

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I'm probably older than all of you. Is this the time to start posting our ages? I'm 33, celebrating my tenth wedding anniversary this year and I have a two year old son.
And yet I still spend all my spare time pretending to be medieval kings....hmmm
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I'm 20, a college student majoring in history and psychology.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Turning 40 in a few months' time.... One step closer to --> :skull:
And still pretending to be a cavalry general in shiny armour, as well :dizzy2:

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Well then, since we're all revealing our doomrings, since Thursday last week I am 22 years old. Or possibly 23. When you get as old as I am, it gets difficult to keep track of these things. ~;)
