Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
sorry forgot...working on it now....
https://img175.imageshack.us/img175/...lhotugayn8.jpg
the guys in the center are the Lusitan Hillmen, little more than peasants armed with falx...but have medium/high damage, and low armor...for the beggining of iberia recruiting...the guys on foot to the left are the Lusitan spearmen, a spearmen unit with stats similar to normal spearmen but with lower morale..the guys on the right are the lusitan bandits, a skirmisher unit, one of the first you get to recruit...
and this are the lusitan jinetes, a medium horse unit, prior to the appearance of this guys there were the light lusitan jinetes, and after, a elite cavalry unit, with few soldiers that i called the "Elite Cavalry of the Warlord"
https://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1478/0171cw5.jpg
in total, now i have 20 unique units recruitable only in lusitania by the Iberia faction only, all ripped from Iberia Total war,,,besides i updated the vettoni rebels of lusitania, and this rebels will have only lusitanian units, mercs also get a treat, and lusianian mercs can be paid..=) i'll see if the guys at ITW let me make an add on with the lusitans, asturians, and cantabrians for EB...
https://img180.imageshack.us/img180/1443/0203hn7.jpg
they actually make iberia more in depth, as well as interesting, to have diferent types of troops in diferent provinces as well as tottaly independant and different from the carthaginian faction, who as we know has some iberian units...and in Numantia i get to recruit the infamous blue spaniards...an iberian gaesatae like unit
https://img180.imageshack.us/img180/...ripeiropq9.jpg
in the mean time, i've added new units for spain only in cantabria, and asturias...
Greece is next....and i got quite a few models in mind, and spartans...and thebans!!!lol just hope there are enough slots...
-
Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
Thebans? Weren't they razed to the ground by Alexander?
-
Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
i think i heard something of the sorts. but anyway the spartans have the reputation of being all military and being human weapons. and bla bla, but they had some shameful moments, and the thebans, who normally are not mencioned, were like the spartans. or worst....ruthless and eficient...
-
Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
Just went through their sub-forum and all I can say is...wow...in a bad way.
Where are they getting basis for all those units? They have like 4 or 5 Lusitani units with mail armour, and what are Ursus?
-
Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
well i've been doing a search into historical documents and essays on lusitans, and many of this units are not that bad...for example Alarcão says that in the begining the lusitans were little more than peasants and shepherds, becoming with time more and more warlike...if you look at the units, you can see this evolution...as for the scaled armor units, i don't like some of them..but...and if you look at the masks stronger lusitanian units use, they can be seen as the ancestors of the masks used in profane partys and rituals in the interior of portugal nowadays...if you«re portuguese, you'll know of those guys from the Beiras, who in the winter will dress with odd vests, all made of crimson threads of fabric, and crimson blood masks....if you compare them, you'll see the similarities...and if you compare them with one found at an archeological site in the beiras, and portraid in one of the books of the same Author, you'll say, they are actually connected...
well the Ursus warriors are not available to the lusitans in the 1.5 version of the mod, but don't let your national pride, fool you and make you believe the authors of the mod(many of wich spanish, and some portuguese) are calling the portuguese bears(ursos, wich in our country is seen as a foul name, and a very depreciative way of calling a person)..don't forget that like the cantabrians, gaelics, celtiberians, and asturians, the Lusitan were also celtic...and as we all know they worship the Mother Goddess, the earth and living beings like sacred things, a unit that is covered in bear skin, and that it calls it self bear warriors, should have been a great honor for the persons envolved...the mod does have some blatant inacuracies, but if you want lusitan, asturian, cantabrian, turdetan, ilergete units you have to play it, or rip them from it, as there aren't any other mod who specializes in portraing the iberian diferent societies...
and personally i ejoyed the mod...it has custom warcires, made b the team, interesting units, and a good map..small but nice...
as for the scale armor, how can we say they didn't used it? as we portuguese know, the lusitans didn't leave many archeological evidence, at least not as much as the romans, and is dificult to say they wore or they didn't....

Lusitani have always been warriors, they had to be so they wouldn't be dominated by the Celtic migrations that happened throughout the centuries. What they fail to see is that there are different areas of development and hence of economical development. And that means different ammounts of armament and ornaments on the warriors.
There's evidence for the use of masks on Lusitani warriors, though establishing a direct connection with what appear to be medieval customs, not mention such a specific thig like war-masks seems a bit far-fetched. It is possible but unlikely. Can you post a picture of that find of the mask please? I'd be indepted to you.

I am Portuguese, but I think I'm pretty unbiased in that respect. I wasn't resenting the fact that they're called ursos, I was contesting their existence. Where is the evidence to support this unit in the Lusitanian roster?
And I dispute the fact that they were Celtic. They are most likely not native of the Iberian Peninsula and are of Indo-European (Continental rather than Mediterranic) stock and speak a slightly celtic influenced language. Culturally however, they are most certainly not celtic. Ilergetes weren't either - they were Iberians.
Gauls were though, do they have a unit called ursos? I do not think so. You're thinking in a much too Romantic way in relation to ancient times. Me and a couple others are already working on sorting out the Peninsular armies, and don't worry they will hopefully be much more accurate than these.

I think you will be pleased with what we'll come up. BTW, thank you a lot for that. If you can find some evidence for those "falxes" I'd be really thankfull as well.
Abraço.

these are by far my favorite..from the siege of taras, after a long bloody war that lasted 5 years....this time i prefered conquering the north and leave the greek fools live a bit longer, so as i could face them in more battles...=))))
for those who asked, those hastati like units in lynotorax, are samnite hastatis from Ancient Empires mod, and the roman like officer is a roman legate unit i found floating around TWC's download area...and the guys with the hoplon are a custom unit i made for myself out of a model i found around the Troy total war mod...

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
The middle one is quite stunning, very nice...but it looks like any battles that take place at high noon or not in the shadow of some building are gonna be washed out and blinding. Kind of hard to look at the top and bottom shots, personally...
You have any pics from battles in the bush/field? I'm interested to see the shrubs :sweatdrop:

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
Yeah, I was wondering when RTW got an HDR makeover. Some of those screens look a bit strange though, the brilliant shirts give the impression that the Romans used bleach.
-
Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
mt card is capable of HDR, any paralel aplication would allow me to use it in RTW?? or any aplication that emulates this efect?

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
This is from my Kart-Hadastim campaign. The Romani and Epeiros existed in an alliance for quite some time and the latter controlled southern Italy with two and a half stalks of troops.
Intense fighting for Megale Hellas with reinforcements on their way. http://abou.heliologue.com/uploads/qve1.jpg
http://abou.heliologue.com/uploads/qve2.jpg
Phalanx breaking apart and only a few moments from being surrounded, but reinforcement cavalary saved the day and chased off the skirmishers - too bad I don't have a picture of that!

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
Here are a two from a couple of my favorite battles in my Casse campaign.
A vast force of mercenary cavalry, decimated at the battle of Venetia...
https://img369.imageshack.us/img369/8177/battle3rn6.jpg
And here's one, my favorite battle so far, that took place in the woodlands of Liguria above Segesta...if you ever have to fight there, I recomend playing a defensive battle in that pretty stand of trees above Segesta.
These guys are on the top of a steep wooded hill, outnumbered 2 stacks to 1.
The mercenary army of Roma has been marching uphill for quite some time, and most were exhausted by the time they reached my battle line. What's more, they're being flanked by two hidden units of heavy cavalry...tsk tsk
Before...

After...
https://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8800/afterbv6.jpg
https://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7858/rundownuj2.jpg
I lost around sixty men, and they lost 2 legions...:2thumbsup:

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
After their defeat at Taras, the Epeirotes summoned backup from Rhegion, wich they had conquered a year before, and ambushed one of my armies at the exit of Taras in a hill through wich the road to Canusium passes...i had little time to organize manipules, and made them face the enemy , and turn their backs to the forest...there i made my stand...it was a gloomy late afternoon, and my captain had to fight or die, cuz this boys meant business...at first they struck head on with my army, being repelled with some casualties
https://img77.imageshack.us/img77/2954/0328tv3.jpg
https://img77.imageshack.us/img77/3301/0332oe7.jpg
then they divided their forces, sending their heavy cavalry, and stronger infantary trough the forest, and ordered a new atack on my position with the phalanx units...facing oposition on two fronts i decided to deal with the phalanx first, but they were a togh nut to crack and some of my front units wavered and got decimated...
https://img77.imageshack.us/img77/9207/0338tf3.jpg
by now i was being rammed from the right and left sides by heavy cavalry...at this point i sent in my accensi and battered them into submision my flanks held at the cost of heavy casualties....when the rest of the attackers saw it's general die shot with accensi fire, started to panic, and it was just a question of maneuvering some of my hastatis to cause them to rout...
https://img77.imageshack.us/img77/1061/0346gv4.jpg
from then on it was just sweep them back to Rhegion...
https://img77.imageshack.us/img77/1016/0354gm9.jpg
this was one tough battle...i loved it, and loved the screens even more...i play in H/VH...some or a lot, of casualties could have been avoided, but, this point was the best to defend...the rest of the map available quick was made of forest..wich dificulted the life for my accensi, and dificulties for my generals view so, i chose this spot...in the end of day i got an heroic victory, and felt tired, but gooodd....lol
i found a nifty litle mod at TWC its called DustCloud mod, or something similar, and it changes dust to look more realistic as you can see in the last pic...and it's tottaly compatible with EB...i found no incompatibility so far...

Iberius Generalis:
Where did you get those sweet looking icons from? (The ones from the battlemap that inform you of routing units, reinforcements, fallen general, etc.)
Those look awesome.
Bye!

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
I played a custom battle as the Aeudi against Sweboz today, and looking at the replay I got some fair screenshots of it, and I figured I might aswell revive this thread with them. My favourite is the second one.
Here is my battle formation: Mala Gaeroas first line, Botroas second, Bataroas in the third. Sotaroas in the fourth line and behind them stands one group of Carnute Clingetos. A group of gaesatae deployed on the left wing. The only cavalry unit is my general, located behind everyone else, ready to turn to where he's most needed.
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/157551_formation.jpg
The enemy closing in, under heavy fire:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/157557_closingin.jpg
Some Gastiz advancing on my right flank:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/15757...nginrflank.jpg
The charge in the center:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/157601_centercharge.jpg
Fighting ensued over my whole front, and on my flanks. Here's a shot seen slightly from the left of the middle, towards my left flank:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/157613_cleft.jpg
The enemy succeeded in breaking through my center, putting my right flank in real danger. Just off screen, my general moves there to help out, while I send in reinforcements at the wide open center:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/15762...trefalling.jpg
Even though less patient fans are already leaving the stadium, the members of the Carnute Cingetos supporter club won't stop singing. ~
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/15763...getoschant.jpg
While the left flank still sees some intense fighting...
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/157645_lwingfight.jpg
... the right flank falls. My general, who can be seen in the background, is the only one left there:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/157649_rwingbroken.jpg
My left wing, allthough not yet critical, was starting to have some trouble too:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/157652_lwingtrouble.jpg
My general charges the remaining enemy troops on my ex right flank:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/157655_generaljoins.jpg
After firing all their arrows, the Sweboz bugimannoz joins the melee:
http://i2.turboimagehost.com/t/15765...nbowcharge.jpg
I have more, but the hosting server seems to be down, so I'll edit them in later. And I don't care if you think this is plenty already. ~;)

NIce screenshots.
Glad to be back and playing EB after like 10 months.....
