Special Units
Baronal Soldiers
Cheap soldiers conscripted by Barons, they are sent to the Prussian armies. Not that good, and easily break, should be used for skrimishes
British Mercinaries
Sent to Portugal, they are good, only avalible by the Portugese. Armed like regular line infantry, but cost more.
Foriegn Conscripts
Raised by local rulers, they are cheap units, used as skrimishers, and sometimes main battle units
Jaeger (russians)
Special units used by the Russians to protect Unicorns. Lightly armed, they can be used as skrimishers as well.
For further units go to the Napoleonic Crusade at the com. In the OT and Mod they have lists of units.
Greetings Hasbural,
Not to sure what you mean in your post. Most troops in all the nations were raised as conscripts. The Portugese Military was for the better part of the wars under British control, the new Portugese army had numbers of British Officers to assist in it's transformation into a modern army.
Most of the units you refer to could be considered landwher (Prussian) or 2nd line irregular troops, these are in the game already.
The Russian Jager units were a main part of the army's regulars used at a 1:4 ratio with the line.
Hope this helps
De Moray
We already have Russian Jaeger units in the game, the Russian Light Infantry.
It would be nice to have the special Russian Artillery, the Unicorn though now that it is mentioned. And Jaeger were not used to guard artillery, they were the general light infantry of the Russian army.
Ok I just decidied to bring over three units from the NC.
Also what about the Austrian Jaeger Infantry.
Austrian Jagers, I would hope that at a later stage they would be added, the model used at the moment is a Hungarian Line infantryman pre 1812 after which most Austrian Inf adopted the shako in favour of the crested helm.
I think the idea is to get the mod out and ready, then tweek later.
De Moray
Thanks to all for the Ottoman army discussion. I think we have a good picture of the army.
now we need more picture (which is quite hard to find) and see which existing units could be used maybe...
Let's stick with Brother Derfel list...any picture of them?
Infantry
-Sultan's Guard
-Janissary Regular troops.
-Nizam-I-Jedid Equivalent of Line infantry
-Sekhan Ranging from regular to militia quality
-Fellahin Militia
-Derbent Militia
-Raya Skirmishers
-Sultans Guard Cav. Elite - Medium, Lance
-Suvarileri Elite - Med, Lance
-Sipahi Regular - Med, Lance
-Mameluk Regular - Light
-Yoruk Militia, Light, Sk
-Djelli Regular, Light, Sk
-Arabic Militia, Light, Sk
Artillery

Artillery and engineer uniforms were the same as infantry with red coats.
The webiste with these figures has many more such pictures but of course there's no colour. Colour may only matter to the Nizam units the rest would be just a mixture I would guess.
De Moray
Agreed, the Nizam, and possibly the Janissary infantry would be the only infantry that require a set uniform, the others would all be dressed in various tribal and civilian atire such as a baggy coat and breeches and maybe a fez or a turban.
As for cavalry, I am not too sure, most would be similar to the infantry, but the Malmeluke cavalry are certainly dressed differently, I will see what I can find picture wise.
What sort of time scale do we have, because if there is no hurry, I may order the Osprey title that deals with these then we would have access to better picture references.
Brother Derfel,
The new units for the Ottoman empire will not be included in the first release of the campaign mod since the mod will be out very soon and there is no time to do them so we have some time in front of us.

Thats a pic of a Sekhan miniature. The colour of the clothes does not matter much, but that is the sort of atire they would ware. Remember these are semi profesional troops.
http://www.thequartermaster.com/cata...ans/ott27b.jpg
Topiji Artillery men. Again showing the range of clothing worn. I wil see if I can find examples of clours worn, but these would probably not be wearing a standard uniform.
http://www2.egenet.com.tr/mastersj/s...with-cirid.jpg
Sipahi cavalry man. Shown in typical colours warn. Again I think would not be uniformed.
If you have patience to trawl through the pics here:
http://www.garrison-clubs.org/clubs/...ttegallery.htm
There are loads of examples of painted wargaming figs of the Ottoman army.
I advice you to look, as there are too many to post the pics here. A useful site.
I would like to ask about, makeing new republic of sorts, such as the Confederacy of the Rhine, or Grand Duchy of Warsaw. Is it to be in seperate times or what. I would also like to know about the Portugese and the Spanish. Even a minor country of sorts, they created a problem for Napoleon, and I would like to know how they are to simulated.
I'm not sure I compltely understand what you are getting at, if you mean the Problems that Napoleon faced when he controlled spain, from the Spanish people themselves, then that will simply be 'simulated' by the loyalty of the provinces and how the French or indeed any player would deal with keeping a province happy. The only reason that Spain was so hostile to Napoleon was that he had not bothered to listen to their wants, or even understand their culture and religion.Quote:

This was a mistake as Ferdinand, bye ridding Spain of Godin(?), who was immensly unpopular, was seen as something of a people's champion. Revolts were bloodly crushed by Murat, thus starting the Spanish peoples hatred for the French who had betrayed them, their closest allies up to that point.
Now in the game this would be represented abstractly by a nation that conquered Spain, or indeed any province and instated an unpopular governer, i.e one with a bad vice that cause -% to happiness or one with very little dread. The newly conquered province would then become hostile, forcing the ruling player to leave more troops in that province, just as Napoleon had to move much of his Grand Army from Germany into Spain to deal with the Guirillos.
So realy there is no need for any changes in this mod to cover these circumstances as the MTW engine already handles it.
And BTW, Spain was hardly a 'minor' nation at the time (Just so any Spanish members of the baord don;t get a little angry http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/joker.gif )
Actually what i meant is that what about Spanish armies, I mean like Spanish Guerillas along with any other units, if there are to be more. I also didn't mean to sound rude to the Spainish.
Ah right, i get you now.Quote:

Personaly I am a big fan of the Spanish army (Crap in every possible way. Well the artillery wasn't too bad). They do have an apeal for me though as a very challenging Nation to play. I would love to see specific Spanish units (Perhaps a specific Ship unit as the Spanish had the largest ship on the waves at this time). Guerillas though i would like to see as a rebel only unit, as many bands were very independant, and indeed little more than bandits. I think having to bride them to use them would be much more historicaly accurate, or maybe have them in loyalist rebellions as well.
I will not give an estimate in days, The full campaign is in the next phase of beta testing at the moment. And all I can say about the official release date is it will be soon. Thank you for your continued patience and support . LOSQuote:

Its got British and other uniforms as well.
Murat,
There is only so much that can be done with the mod at this time. While the mod has developed into at total conversion of the game there are still limitations. In essence the game works the same as before, but with different units, buildings, map peices and start postions. Several other bits of artwork have been added to give the game a more Napoleonic feel. Like so many things i life you can't always get what you want, and i'm sure the lordz are working as best they can with what they have.
Suggestion for you, wait and see, i'm sure you'll be delighted with the outcome.
I think that the Lordz have all the information they need at this time.
Regards,
De Moray
Hey you guys (besides LoS and LK) the Lordz have updated thier site with more links.

We have all worked long and hard to put this Mod together,
with your input and feedback on the unit betas, and your ideas for the campaign it is our sincerest hope that the finished product meets your expectations.
Now I know we can not please everyone, there will be dissapointments I am sure, but we all must realize this is and will be a building process, the mod will go through developmental stages, many more elements will be added.
More factions,More units, stats will be tweaked and changed many times I am sure.
It was our goal to bring you a game that is truly Napoleonic in nature not just a cosmetic change but closer to a true conversion. We have done our best to be as historically accurate as we could with the platform we had to work with and the data that was available.
In some instances accuracy might have been sacrificed for better gameplay, this is known and hopefully understood.
And alas we are not perfect nor infallible, so send us your feedback, ideas, bugs etc. we welcome them it will help us to bring the Mod to the next level.
The Lords would like to thank you all again for your support.

But thats not to happen for a few more months
The mod looks nice and all, but could the fact that its a by-request only download be put with the news about it? Kinda annoying to search through the pages trying to find a download. And are you sending the mod by e-mail, or just e-mailing them where to dl it? I don't have an e-mail I could use for that right now so thats why i'm wondering.

Congratulations Lords on the public release of this no doubt great mod I have been waiting expectantly for months
tracking the progress of your fine work. My heart sank however when I read this morning that it was only for MTW VI. I must have missed a post somewhere because I thought this would be available for MTW 1.1 as I downloaded the earlier releases for custom battles ok. Oh well I guess for
$50 AUD it is worth getting an add on to MTW and as a bonus
being able to play this great mod
Well done Lords you guys are really on the leading edge and are what gaming community is all about - Many thanks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
Little misunderstanding LoS, I had been following this thread off an on waiting for the mod to come out. When I saw the _news_ post on the front page of the org I thought it was up for download. Didn't realize it wasn't except by request till I came and read up here in the thread. Didn't mean to be rude or anything. Anyway, just finished downloading the mod and gonna try it, looks good.
No worries CL, People should know the "news on the front page" was an article done by Mithandir as just that a news piece by an Org member/Moderator/Volunteer and was not meant as a release announcement, that was obviuos by its content, my post regarding the pre -release was clear and concise most people understand you must read the threads thorughly before saying something that might offend someoneQuote:

for those who have the pre release version 1.00 and are concerned if the latest release 1.01 has many more diffrences, and should they upgrade?, is 1.01 an add-on? No 1.01 has a few more elements than the prior release but is not an add on.We are working on an add on with the added elements of version 1.01 for those who received the pre release version of the mod, so they will not need to download again to have the most recent version. So keep on playing and we will get that out soon thanks LOSQuote:

First, I love it. This is what I was hoping for, and here's to hoping somewhere down the road CA gets behind a full blow Napoleon game. I like the Virtues/Vice deal, but my question is are these random? Having Napoleon be a drunkert is inaccurate, so I am to assume it random...
The game play however is where I want to focus on.
Battles:
1. Not sure if this is possible, but Infantry should have a Square formation for repelling cavalry. Otherwise, it seems to me anytime enemy cavalry, or mine, attack, its a guaranteed rout.
2. Artillery should be somewhat more accurate then they are depicted in this version.
Game Play: Huge imbalances here, but this is a Beta so its to be expected http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif
1. Guard units. Ive mainly played as France, and one thing I noticed is, I shouldn't be able to get Guard Infantry and Cavalry in 1753. This makes the game very very easy. There should be a much more involved, or lengthy tech tree.
2. Napoleon. Napoleon shouldn't be made available as early as he is, I got him in 1756. Considering he's not even BORN at that time.... hehe.
3. French should be limited to militia, or very shoddy infantry. At this time, the Revolution pumps out ALOT of men, but they are of crummy quality. Having Line Infantry available, and some Light is fine, but see above regarding high quality troops.
4. Change the cost of the units 30 turns into the game my military was at least twice the size as anyone elses, and it was all Guard. The elite should cost like elite 150 for Grenadiers when France is pulling in 3500+ a turn is a drop in the bucket. France was definetly a large economy, but at this time most of France is poor because of the lack of the current monarchy to build a national infrastructre. Cut down on what they can generate, and boost the cost of their units.
5. Make the enemy more agressive I played at expert lvl, and had 3/4 of Europe conquered within the first 150 turns. I only engaged 1 enemy army in that entire time. 1. Perhaps a trigger in the game that gives the computer a boost in money and manpower if the Human player chooses France? I understand France is a monster, but its not a REAL monster until it becomes Imperial France. The Revolution inflates their armies in patriotic fervor, but those armies suck.
6. Piedmont and Savoy are "ok" factions. But why not the Ottomon Empire and Sweden? Otto was the "Sick Man of Europe" at this point, but they were still a presence and fought many battles vs the Russians. Sweden will rear its head from time to time, and giving it control over the Scandanavian countries would be interesting.
7. WAR Revolutionary France is at war with damn near everyone at this time. Austria, England, Spain, Prussia, all of them should be already in a pre-existing war at the start of the game.
As I said, this is a Beta, and I'm not sure how much of this is possible, but so far I'm impressed at the amount you guys at the Lordz have done. Let me know if I posted this in the wrong place or if I'm a blithering idiot :o
-----
You can find his post here.
The Mod is great and im having a great time developing new tactics to defeat the enemy (so far grabing the high ground with my Green Coats is the best)
One problem i have noted is the AI's horrible over use of Cavalry - its often is see entire armies made up of the horse back units and this often recreates the charge of the light brigade over and over again
Hey I've got a question, which calvary types can fire?
All good points guys, and yes like you stated Emperor this is a beta and theres many changes to come, thats why feedback like this is invaluable thanks, and The Ottoman and the Swedes are being developed for eventual addition to the campaign, Napoleon being available as he is was a test to be sure this functioned correctly, the date is easily changed via the heroes file, as to the vices they are for the most part random with the exception of the 1 given virtue via the heroes file again. The Square is being developed further also, have you tried a custom battle yet?
Thanks for the feedback. LOS
While still on the point of the Over Cavalry Armies The Prussians Are next to perfect building one or 2 Cav to a whole lot of infantry - makes crushing them far harder
As for y they do this i have no idea as they are Catholic Expansionists just like the French and danish who dont seem to build anything but cav (except when the cav production buildings arnt built yet)
There is now an 'Official Forum' for NTW, I made some modification's to it as it was once a clan forum dedicated to NTW. You can find it Here Please give me some feedback about it. This forum will hopefully make playing the game with each other alot easier. Also I hope that this will give NTW a more official look rather than something attached to an alien forum.

Well firstly i must say great mod..i have really enjoyed the battles, however i cant seem to get a campaign going, as it appears that a campaign is supported. I have all the usual options for VI including the campaigns for VI and play custom battles using the mod which gives me the NTW troops to play with, i may be overlooking something and be a bit brain dead but i would like a helpful hand in regrads to this. So how do you get a campaign going. Treat me like a moron i dont mind.
Hey dlundie.
First, do you have the NTW campaign beta or 1.81(custom battles only).
If you have NTW beta, click down on the campaign selection.

Hi All,
Congratulations to the Lords on the official release of the Napoleon mod. I have the pre-release version 1.8, and enjoy it immensly.
Unfortunatley, I have only limited funds, and considering that I am planning to purchase Rome: Total War at the end of the year, I cannot afford the expense of purchasing the Viking expansion for Medieval just so I can play the full Napoleon mod (even though I would really love to).
A short time ago I believe it was mentioned that there would be two releases of the Napoleon mod. One for the Viking expansion, and one for the original game. Obviously, my question is, will there still be a version release for people who only have the standard game?
Keep up the good work, you have done exceptionally well

My problem is that when you have a family, a house mortgage, and a handful of loans to support, your money only goes so far. You have to start weighing up what is more important to spend your limited amount of money on.
Now that I know that there will definitely not be a Napoleon mod for the original game, I will dig as deep as I can to find the funds for purchasing the Viking expansion. The Napoleon mod is really worth it 100 times over.
Then, some time down the track, we hope there will be the Napoleon mod, the American Civil War mod, the American War of Independence mod, and the Franco-Prussian War mod for Rome: Total War.
All this in full 3D. What a dream

I've been trolling this thread for some time and am really impressed with the work that has gone into this mod. Congratulations to the mod crew for a job well done.
However before I set aside the 1-2gigs for another install of MTV:VI 2.0 so I can install this mod I need to know if and how the modmakers managed to prevent their musket wielding troopers from doing what ALL missile firing infantry and cavalry does in MTW; namely running from an advancing enemy. For the human player this isn't an issue as we can simply tell our missile troops to 'Hold' instead of 'Skirmish' but I have yet to see the AI tell its missile troops to Hold onto anything Did you guys find a way to get around this? If so then please share it with the rest of the mod community
What an amazing amount of work and detail.
Loved the mooveable artillery. Await with anticipation for the finished product.
OK, I couldn't resist so I made a new MTW install to try the mod out. Fantastic It's really got the feel of the period. I love all the new graphics; the bitmap soldiers, cavalry and artillery graphics taken from Breakaway's Waterloo and Austerlitz games, the new leader portraits, the new event graphics and even the new buildings on the campaign map.
Unfortunately musket & rifle armed units still skirmish about like there's no tomorrow making the tactical battles a bit 'wonky'. I guess if you want to get the most out of the Napoleonic experience in the tactical battles you need to play against another human being using 'house rules' or something like that. I can see 4v4 online battles with this mod and house rules in effect making for one hell of an experience.
Cheers and congratulations to the Lords mod team for a job well done

Hi Spino,
I've offen been at the hard end of a bayonet charge, i'm sure you was just unlucky, keep playing and enjoy.
Regards,
Lord De Moray http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
Ahhhh bayonet charges.... You never seem tired of them when your chargeing. Yes thats the problem with the AI, but I always put hold on my men. Did you know that when you fire a musket volley into some calvary, they drop like flies. Did it once against Russian and it was kick ass fun. ALso to LK and LOS when are you going to let out the new mod.
Greetings Spino Thanks for the kind words, rest assured the problem of infantry not holding the line is my pet peeve and one I will find a solution for, I was able to adapt a rudimentary square from the historical formations to the AI's special formation (this would be more evident in a custom battle) and by my own experiments I had the infantry at one point leaving the line to Charge the incoming Cav units . So with further experimenting I am confident we can improve this issue somewhat in the versions to come. LOSQuote:

UPDATEIt seems theres a number of reports of installer errors with the 1.03 update, I have just checked into this myself and it seems as though it does not install the file folders correctly, This will be taken care of as soon as possible so for now stick with your current version , We apologize for the oversight. Thanks LOS
