Wow...Never Seen This Before
Carthage actually landed a decent sized stack in Italy...
https://i35.tinypic.com/2nlfwib.jpg
I watched as the stack was recruited in Iberia as the fleet moved over to pick them up. It seemed like the AI actually had a purpose in what it was doing...

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
Yeah I've seen it also, In my current campaign Makedonia has made several Invasions of Rhodios, the last city of the KH.
Though if its anything like the Rhodios situation both sides will just bugger about without doing much.

What .exe are you playing with, Mcantu?

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
From my old Seleukeia campaign:

I love playing with BI.exe, because usually around 220 bc onwards is when things get really insteresting, at least with naval invasions :beam: Those stacks came straight from Karthage and eight turns later they took Baikor and Arse.

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
BI.exe explains it all. I tried playing with it once but there were so many screw ups that I just played on Vanilla exe. As it is I've heard the AI also has a habit of constantly attacking with 3 unit stacks, so that put me off as well. I'd prefer it if there were full scale sea launched invasions or none at all.

He's right. Most people are turned off by the medicore naval invasions at the onset of the game, but understand that most factions are not strong enough to mount a serious invasion (esp. by expensive boats) until the middle 200's B.C. At around that time, things get awfully serious at that point (try taking sicily or corsica from the cathaginians and you'll see what I mean).

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
That happened to me too, and I am not using the BI exe. Before 214 BCE the Carthaginians threatened me if I do not hand over Lillybaeum to them, of course I didn't take this as a serious threat, I was busy fighting the lusitanni as they invaded Gaul, and where going to unbalance the region, which I, as Rome, wanted to remain as it was, Aediu and Arverni fighting their civil war. Then in 214 BCE the hated foe landed a small army in Sicily and besiged Messana, the 2nd Punic war had began.
Cheers.

Yeah agreed, once you hit aound 220 things just pick up alot.

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
It really does get more serious after 220? I mean, I haven't experienced that with BI before but that's probably because I've never goten past that date:smash:

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
Wow. This actually makes me want to make another try at playing EB with BI. My previous attempt caused me to go back to the rtw.exe because it seemed to load RTW vanilla (or at least that's what the loading screen and main menu looked like). Maybe once I finish my Casse campaign, since I seriously doubt it is savegame compatible.

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
It isn't actually. If you have any issues, feel free to pm me and I'll give you a quick guide on how to enable BI with or without the extra features.

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
BI shines when you activate the "prefers naval invasions" setting. That increases the chances of proper naval invasions by far...
-
Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
Does ALEX have as many naval invasions as BI (and are they full stacks or a few solitary units)?
-
Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
Well, ALEX AI does use naval invasions but as a defensive mechanism, AFAIK. This means that they will ship troops to an endangered area as a mean to defend it, though they will never do it as a mean to invade a hostile area. As for the army quality that gets shiped, I'm not sure but I think it shoud look better than in BI (at least in he first yeas, that is).
Hope this helped,
Maion

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
expect high elite stacks of well balanced troops that are full stacked attackign u after u invaded a opposing nation with a good navy
lemme tell u
i ahnilated Koinon hellene and force migrated epirote to pergamon (lol bribed city from selekuid and gave it to them fora ceasfire then sent pyrhos and any other roaming general to it , gave them it and then took their homeland LOL
well i secured it all and i was @ 195bc in alexander exe, idecided to invade the anatolion area but by then.... epirote conqured up to coucasis, what it happened was epic
they besieged the seleukid settlement above cyrene with a decent full stack and i landed my elite veteren stack unit next to it in 3 turns..
BAM - a full seleukid army with a 6 star general full of thorikita, theurophia, syrian archer, agryspida, hydaspist , peltesti makedonia, hetairo, landed and attacked the opposing stack and i was sent as reinforcement, god damn i saw that stack get picked up out of antiocheia (cant spell that city name)
they were epic on that 4 unti stacks converged and met up from babylon and the egyption border
now... im kicking pontic ass Lol...was an epic 9480 men battle, epic battle
if u invade a sea faring nation in alexender exe, make sure u got a lot of reinforcements :)

I found this to be the case too with Alex.exe. It seems to be almost entirely defensive; however, BI is primarily offensive in nature. Also, If you stick with BI after 230-20 B.C. then the invasions will get... well... lets just say challenging. lol

It actually does, which is pretty ironic seeing as how so many factions were active from 220 - 200 bc historically from Antiochus III campaigns in Koele-Syria and the East to the Second Punic War.
The main reason I think is because by that time in the campaign is because, the "chaff has been seperated from the wheat". The factions that are going to become dominant for the rest of the campaign (usually Karthage, Romani, Epeiros and the Grey or Yellow Death in my experience) have been decided and they now have enough resources at their disposal to field considerable armies and navies against the player and the other ai empires.
The stacks that land from naval invasions also get much stronger and organized as time goes by. I was laughing before when Karthage kept landing stacks made up of Libyan spearmen and Corsican/Sardinian archers in the 260's to 230's in Italy. I wasn't laughing anymore, actually I was but I wouldn't if I was the Romani :laugh4:, when they started landing stacks filled up with Elite African Pikemen and Swordsmen and elephants in Italy and Spain :skull:

Exactly! I'd laugh at what the Carthaginians sent to Corsica and Italy at first after immediately seizing them, but now... my goodness! I've got full stacks of Libyan spearman and elite pikemen at my shores every three to four turns. It is actually forcing (for the first time) to build a permanent navy and seek out enemy ships before they reach my shores. In fact naval dominance against Carthage is now a top security issue in my Romani Campaign with BI. Entirely new dimension added to the game. That alone encouraged me to quit alexander for a while.
This is not a knock on Alex.exe, which is actually incredibly stable. Although their naval invasions are purely defensive, they are still extremely aggressive when they occur.

They've been buggering about there for loads of turns Siege and then cease fire on and on.

Apparently, Makedonia did not want to make the mistake of Demetrios Poliorketes again.

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
I just noticed that Makedonia declared war on the Romans in my Arverni campaign.
I wondered how that was possible, so I took a look.
This is the situation.

Got to love BI...

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
Funny, I've seen that happen as well, but then Makedonia was besieging Lilibeo!

Re: Wow...Never Seen This Before
few questions.
can you change .exe in mid campaign or will you have to start a new one, coz I'm playing rtw.exe and BI looks so much greater
can you use RTW disc to run it on BI.exe, because if you need to use the BI disc, I lost it
how are the naval invasions in rtw.exe?
