Spartacus: Total War
Hello everyone, I am currently developing a mod for Rome Total War; Spartacus Total War.
The mod will focus on the gladiator uprising lead by Spartacus and on the many events taking place at that time.
It will be as historically accurate as possible, having in mind, of course, that his is a game and supposed to be fun, not a history lesson.
The new factions will be:
The Republic of Rome (previous Julii)
The Gladiator Rebels (previous Macedon)
The Roman Rebels (previous Scipii)
The Eastern Provinces (previous Brutii)
The Celts (previous S.P.Q.R.)
The Mauritanians (previous carthage)
The Kingdom of Bithinya and Pergamum (previous Seleucid Empire)
The map will suffer some changes. More regions will be added, as well as the starting territories for the remaining factions, and some tricks I won't reveal so you can be surprised while playing it.
Since I'm no artist whatsoever I'm using the units already present in the game with some changes. You will see on the updates I will be making
If someone is willing, I could really use some help creating faction symbols and making some new skins. If so, give me a word here and we will get in touch.
This is all, for now. I will keep updating!

Re: Spartacus: Total War
"I am Spartacus!" :gring:
I really do not have time to devote to work on new material for Spartacus, but if there is anything you like in ATW, feel free to use it.
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
Thank you, SubRosa, I have already saved you a place of honor in the mod's "thank you list" due to the many times you assisted me :)
If I use something else from ATW (I am already using the Athenian Marines) , I will be sure to let you know first. :sweatdrop:

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Faction Preview:
Pontus
Pontus will be a very important faction in the mod, playing one of the major parts. By the time Spartacus and his army revolted, Mithridates the VI had invaded for the third time the roman province of Asia.
Pontic Light Infantry
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...1-43-41-73.jpg
Bosphoran Infantry
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...1-42-45-01.jpg
Pontic Heavy Infantry
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...1-41-47-59.jpg
Pontic Nobles
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...1-42-19-23.jpg
Pontic Royal Guards
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...1-43-10-01.jpg
These are the new units for Pontus. They have others that were already present in Vanilla, like Hillmen or Cappadocian Cavalry, wich I didn't put here because I think everyone knows them already.

Re: Spartacus: Total War
That looks good!
I'd like to see the map.
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
I will make that possible as soon as I can, Prince of Graal. You can have a small peak on the starting territories of some factions in my next update, though the map has already been altered since then.

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Faction preview:
The Greek Cities.
The Greek Cities will play a secondary roll on the mod. They are supposed to represent the greek city states that still remained with some sort of autonomy from roman authority.
City Guards

Greek Citizen Militia
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...itymilitia.jpg
Greek Marines (all the credit from this badboys must go to SubRosa, who kindly allowed me to use them from her own mod, Amazon Total War)
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...reekmarine.jpg
Greek Spearmen
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...ekspearmen.jpg
Sacred Band (these already exist in the game, but when the mod is ready you will understand why I put them as a new unit)
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...sacredband.jpg
Greek Cavalry (I am looking for a better name, sugestions will be welcome)
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...eus/th_1-2.jpg
Rhodian Trireme
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v..._deus/th_7.jpg
Also, Cretan Archers and Rhodian Slingers have been added to the Greek roster. I have not included them because they are already known by everyone.
Feel free to post any suggestions, ideas, etc, you may have.

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Beautiful skinning!
Also the Map looks good.
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
Thanks, Prince of Graal. I am yet learning how to work with the skins and models, so there might be some changes. For better, I hope!

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Well, this is a unit I created today for the Mauritania faction, the Gaetulian Skirmishers.

What do you think of it?

Re: Spartacus: Total War

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Brilliant. Thats sort of the way im taking Mauretania in PTW, except the 'Mediteranean Infantry' will be replaced by a lighter version of a legionary.
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
I'm still having doubts about the Mediterranean Infantry too. I think is too Romanlike...
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
Wow, the only thing is the Mediterranean Infantry...
Too Roman.

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Hi all. Here's a new update for you.
These are the Lybian mercenaries. They come to fill the complete lack of infantry mercenary options in Western Africa, Lybia, Cyrenaica and maybe Egypt.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...tariaLbia3.jpg
And also, the new version of Mediterranean Infantry.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v..._meditinf2.jpg

You know the drill, comment, suggest, etc :)

Re: Spartacus: Total War
i think the Mediterranean Infantry is now very good

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Thank you, Emperor of Graal.

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Just to let you know I have not stop working on the mod. But these last few days have been crazy for me so I haven't updated here.
I've been working on some celtic units for Iberia and some skinning for the gladiators. I'll post a preview as soon as I can.

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Faction Preview:
The Gladiators
Velite Gladiator
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.../th_velite.jpg
Mirmillo Gladiator
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...h_Mirmillo.jpg
Samnite Gladiator
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...th_Samnite.jpg
Retarius Gladiator
I know they used a net and not a shield, but all my attempts to creat a net failed miserably. Not to mention not having an animation for it.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...h_Retarius.jpg
Spartacus had to use many strategies to win against the the armies sent against him and his followers. Doesn't matter if they are somewhat archaic if they are effective!
Hoplite Gladiator
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...h_hoplites.jpg
Chosen Gladiator
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.../th_golden.jpg
Greek Pirates
Mercenaries hired to aid in the Gladiator's fight for freedom!
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...eekpirates.jpg
Not many years have passed since the Social Wars that opposed Rome against the rest of the cities in Italy. And although they have been defeated, some of them are always prompt to rebel against the Roman oppressor.
Trained and equiped in Roman style, this troops are a precious addition to Spartacus's army.
Samnite Warriors
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...itewarrior.jpg
Marcii Warriors
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...ciiwarrior.jpg
And some mounted units
Gladiator Cavalry
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...0-33-12-84.jpg
Gladiator Chariots
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...0-32-32-46.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...0-32-44-85.jpg
Ok, so here is the first preview. These are not final, I may and probably will make changes in some of them.
Here's what I already have in mind:
Give shields to Mirmillo and Samnite Gladiators, give a sword instead of a spear to the Chosen Gladiators.
Also, I'm not sure about the Greek Pirates... I like the idea, but I don't know if the unit is the right thing... What do you think?
Give all the suggestions and opinions you want, they are most welcome and needed in order to improve the mod!

Re: Spartacus: Total War
Ok, here's a new update. These are some units I've been working on.
The Iberian Tribes have suffered the influence of foreign people since anyone can remember, but they still keep some of their Celtiberian ways.
Celtiberian Infantry
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...celtiberia.jpg
Celtiberian Skirmishers (will also be slingers)
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...celtiberos.jpg
Iberian Heavy Infantry
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...anishheavy.jpg
Centuries of war against "more advanced" armies have taught the Gauls the value of fighting well armoured and protected.
Gallic Heavy Infantry
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v..._gaulheavy.jpg
These units reflect the greek influence in Egypt. Something I think it is seriously lacking on vanilla.
Macedonian Nobles (shield by Halie Satanus)
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...onianNoble.jpg
Ptolemaic Guard
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...emaicguard.jpg
And finally, some new units for the Gladiators.
Shepherd Slingers
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...eiropastor.jpg
Gladiator Archer
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...ogladiador.jpg
Gladiator Berserker Only the most violent and untamable of the slaves, those who could not be trusted to not kill their owners as soon as they had a chance, were sent to the quarries. Mostly captured warriors, the slaves sent to the quarries were as good as dead, the average life time on a quarrie was little more than a year. Now, making of their previous tool their arms, these men's bloodlust knows no limits!
(armour?)
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...erarmadura.jpg
(or no armour?)
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...berserkers.jpg
I'm not sure about if I should use or not the Gladiator Berserkers... what do you think?
Comment, suggest, discuss, etc!
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
Cool!
Both previews are Awesome, with the Beserkers...
No Armour and that's if you decide to have them
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
You will be happy to know that you have inspired me to watch the movie Spartacus again.
"I am Spartacus!"
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
Thank you, Emperor of Graal <:
I am, SubRosa. I have been meaning to talk to you, but I've been very busy. I guess I'll send you an email :)
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
The work on Spartacus continues! Sorry my lack of activity, but I've had some crazy days!
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
Wow dude, this seems very interesting! I especially like those gladiator soldiers.
I noticed you said you didn't have a net animation, well if you want i could work on that, only not in these few days, all you have to do is tell me how you want it, i'm pretty skilled at Cinema 4D (at everithing providing it's not living). Let me know if you need anything else! This mod looks very promising!:2thumbsup:
P.S. Are you Portugese or Brasilian?
-
Re: Spartacus: Total War
Thank you, Cyrus!
The net would have to be something that could be used to "wrap" enemies, whether it would be their arms or the entire body, not allowing them to move, and then attack them with their trident. Sounds pretty though, right?
Well, I could use a faction symbol for the Kingdom of Bithynia and Pergamum. I even have a neat image for it! :sweatdrop:
I'm portuguese. How did you figured it out? From the deus in my nickname?
