The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
Calling all Strategos, Consuls, Kings, Chieftains, Generals and Admirals with a creative flair.
It has been a while now since the last screenshot competition (thanks to those forum members who organised it, Duguntz I believe, and some excellent shots from players). I would like to suggest a film contest for September to take our minds off EBII for a while (I know some of you are getting quite irritated by the lack of recent previews).
There are already some excellent films on Youtube by EB'ers, my particular favourites being "Legion Strong" and "Life of a Legionary" (if only for the farting Gaul), but you can never have too much of a good thing, apart from perhaps whisky and vodka which caused me to miss a ferry from Scotland on saturday (oops). If people want to participate in an EB film contest please let me know, I will happily do the leg work of organising it.
What do people think? Up for it? Or should I just go back to my Belgae?
(BTW I pinched this idea from Sonic, I admit to that).

Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
IT would be awesome, though fraps seem to hate my pc, so I wouldn't be participating.

There are many, just hard to find. That's why there are people dedicated to the idea of promoting the activation of such potential. They're known as the Total War Filmmakers. Good job Sonic and Brennus.
EDIT: Do promotional vids count and am I eligible? xD
EDIT #2: Who cares?!

Be more specific, I might be able to help!

:laugh4: It's actually a 2-day draft I turned into YouTube out of pure laziness. There are only 3 weeks till the start of Fall so I don't care. Besides, the players are fixed, they will be the top players of the last tournaments. EB: The Movie is a concept that's been around, but I can't give out information on my rendition of it, or who is working on it. (While we're on the subject, Jirisys, get started on that script and director's notes sheet, as well as some cam paths from the July 2010 replay archive. Thanks.) :laugh4:

Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
Everyone is eligeable.
Here are some preliminary rules:
1. Only use in-game footage from EB. Any footage from other mods or non-ingame graphics are not allowed.
2. Choose whatever music you like, but just remember that not everyone likes the same music so be careful if setting your video to popular music.
3. One video per contender.
4. Voice overs are allowed, however they must be original (no pinching lines from Gladiator or Spartacus). Also if you choose to use your own voice just be careful it sounds professional.
5. Use of either the Pahlava or Epeiros intro videos will result in disqualification.
6. Videos must be no longer than 10 minutes (again be careful, a long video may seem like a good idea but may cause people to lose interest).
7. Have fun!
Contest Ends 1st October.

Thanks to everyone who has expressed interest in this thread so far but I fear this thread is dying.

 Several great shots, and I do like the soundtrack.
Anyway, I like the idea of a contest. Should people be allowed to critize one another's video's?

Thank you.
I'm sure that is within the bounds of forum rules, as long as some common etiquette is followed, correct?

I usually am, unless you're specifically asking people to use the RTW movie_cam. If you are, the least you can do is link them to some tutorial vids.

Thanks vartan.
I was about to ask some tips how to make videos in RTW and the next thing I see is your post here.

Always one step ahead of you, my same-wavelength EB Online Jury Cleric! Ahahaah.

Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
Armed with these tutorial videos I might even try to make an EB movie. :2thumbsup:
-
Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
I might even be tempted (don't worry I wont enter, just always wanted to make one).

It is; I am just asking if you want special rules for the contest. Not everybody likes to have their work critiqued, and not everybody is good at giving constructive criticism. So: do we allow comments on the quality of video's, and do we want it during the contest or only after?

A question for Brennus indeed. Anyone wanting to send me four letter words can just PM me on here. As for the usual remarks, I get them all the time on YouTube, whether as messages or as comments. So no worries on my end (:

Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
Did altered unit numbers in EDU allowable?
such as putting 240 Thorakitai Argyraspidai against 240 gaesatae for massive effect....
-
Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
RE Ludens, I don't really think there is anyway of preventing criticism is there? I will re-draw the rules and add a note asking people to be constructive if they must criticise. Also no faction biased posts. For example if people post videos showing Roman victories no criticising purely because people like the Sweboz and vice versa for videos showing "barbarian" victories, comments must be purely based on the videos creative aspects not it's political leanings. How does that sound?
RE Cute_Wolf, there will be no limit on unit sizes. Now this might be viewed as unfair to people whose computers cannot handle large numbers of units but large unit sizes are not neccesserilly (I can't spell) a good thing. Due to the nature of the "clone armies" sometime huge numbers of identical units can appear quite dull and detract from the atmosphere of the battle (IMO). What do you think?

Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
Link to a dictionary definition of 'critique'.
-
Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
What's wrong with sticking to the original MP EDU Cute Wolf? Or do you feel you need to compromise for the lack of something? (:

Haha, typical ASM. Just for kicks, your link doesn't work.

Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
Come on everyone let's show abit of enthusiasm! Last time there was a screenshot competition there was a flood of entries.
Can anyone think of a good reward for the winner? There's the obvious balloon but thaty seems a bit of an anti-climax for people who have gone to the effort of producing a video.

Brennus you have to understand something, one of the only pieces of software that actually provides a decent video capture result is known as Fraps, and that costs some money. It may not be too expensive, but it's still money. I personally don't know anybody from all the dozens of friends that I have that actually owns Fraps. So if you don't get a lot of video productions this month (and it's only the 4th of the month, mind you), then don't be disappointed please.

Oh I no I fully understand and I don't expect anyone to be producing videos yet I was just hoping that a few more people would have indicated that they would take part. (I'm unemployed at the moment and thus quite impatient I will admit).

Re: The EB Film Contest (eat your heart out Cannes)
I have 2 ideas. One for a short movie(more like an intro for a faction) and another one for a longer movie. What I need is someone who could help me playing some MP battles so that I could use them to create scenes for my movie(s). A help with the RTW movie cam is also appreciated.

I have people who can direct, create a camera path, and produce. I also have a bunch of tournament replays that you can download off the Replay Archive on the EB Online website. Perhaps you could find ample material there, because it is getting harder to find opponents.
