Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
I voted Gah!
None of them qualifies as a single nation.
GB is nice, rather powerful, cool language, but making bad wars, getting votes from warmongers here and no option for me.
Spain is nice, I like especially the character of all spanish women I know(ok, can think of only two now).
Germany is pwn, but from Wilhelm II on there have been few if any really competent rulers, doesn´t qualify.
Netherlands aka Dutchiestan is my dad´s homecountry, some nice people, some strange guys, all in all, doesn´t qualify.
Sweden, nice women, nice attitude, but too liberal for my taste.
Czech Republic aka pornoland qualifies for fun factor, but that doesn´t make it great.
Don´t really know about the rest, so I´m left with Gah!

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
I think it's only fair to vote for places I've actually been. Ireland, Spain & England are all up there too. But Oulu is one of my most favorite places in the world.
There's not much of Europe that I don't like. I learned to keep very quiet and affect a Latin American accent while in Netherlands, and I was rather nervous about my personal safety while in Milan (the only part of Italy I've been to, and from what I know, it's very different than the rest of Italy). But other than the lack of friendliness of the locals, they had their redeeming qualities.
Come to think of it, I'm the Will Rogers of geography... I've never been to a place that I don't like. I even like New Jersey.

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
Is that the standard:
Their counties dollar is weak so they go weak at the knees.
Or is it more of a cultural thing?

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
Tie between Ireland and Germany for me. I chose Germany since I'll almost definately be spending next year over there.:2thumbsup:

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
I would have to say UK,
I must admit I'm quite ignorant to the EU system. From what I've understood the EU is basicly a federal government of the signed countries? Do the countries remain sovereign?
Also the UK losing her money is quite sad. The pound and the smaller coins were quite beautiful. Personally like the look of alot of the old British imperial coins. Quite sad they switch to the idiotic Euro.

Confederal, actually. Each country is sovereign, it just transfers some of it's power to the central EU goverment.
That said, Ireland. Liked it quite well when I was there. and it is also a shining beacon of hope for countries in transition and third-world countries ... or something like that.

Omigod, run and hide!!! :hide:
Ok, only teasing. It's just that the alleged desire of the EU to become a federation of states is extremely contentious in many countries - France and Germany were moving the EU in that direction, but have rather gone off the idea, the UK was very, very strongly against and still is. The EU Commission (the non-elected governing body for the EU made up of appointed ex-ministers from all countries) is still thought to be working towards such a project.
The EU is not even a confederation at this stage, just a loose alliance of countries bound together by treaties and common aims, mainly economically based. A proposed constitution for the grouping, which would have rationalised and codified the pre-existing treaties was rejected in referenda in several key countries, notably France (a big political player in the EU project) which should have killed it stone dead. As always with politicians however, a little thing like popular rejection has only made them more determined to sneak it through.
All the countries in the EU are sovereign states, but have assigned some element of that sovereignty to the EU - each country to a greater or lesser degree. Yes, it's complicated ~D
In a nutshell, the EU doesn't know what it wants to be, and every nation in it has a different idea, apart from the belief that they should be top dog. :wall: At least we're not shooting at one another anymore.

You'll be glad to know that the pound sterling is still in existence and used. The UK rejected the euro - so far, which has preserved it from the weak economic performance of the euro-zone. The Brits did change their old imperial coins and notes in 1971 to a decimal system, but this is still pounds and pence - just no shillings. ~:)

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
Denmark, Sweden or Holland - I voted Denmark cos Im living there.
-
Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
The east of the Netherlands is still bearable but the Netherlands as a whole has gone bleh, I don't like living here anymore. I think Ireland is currently the most pleasant country to live, lots of space and generally very warm people.

:laugh4: Thanks for proving my point of pornoland.:laugh4:
Been to Prague myself, it´s nice, all the buildings and so on, but it was also pornoland, judging by what the taxidriver had in his car, by the guy who made a pic of a girl´s behind in the underground and all those strange people standing around in some parts of the city, oh and it was the first and only city where I ever walked by some prostitutes(I know they exist everywhere, but this was the only city where I ever got close to some that were "working").
Was a funny trip indeed, but doesn´t qualify for me.
Oh, concerning the prices, generally yes, but we were in a restaurant next to this big castle(forgot the name) and it was really expensive there, I payed 8 Euros for a small rumpsteak(I think) with some egg...

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
Let's see.....
Greece is nice and hot, and cheap if you get away from the tourist areas.
Italy is like Greece but not as safe, (not just Milan Don, I was advised not to sleep in my vehicle when travelling through), plus it's in the 1st world. :2thumbsup:
San Marino not in the EU, but you have to admire such a small country (3rd smallest in the world) for keeping independence from Italy. And I got the chance to cross the Rubicon. :inquisitive:
Switzerland, again not in the EU but very clean and dapper. Plus the Swiss seem more laid back than their more northerly neighbours. Downside; they make you pay a full years vehicle tax even though you are only passing through.
France Like Italy can be expensive to travel through, if you use the toll roads. I dont and so get to see areas of rural France which is very beautiful. It reminds me of the Yorkshire Dales in places only much sunnier. :laugh4:
Luxembourg Lots of rolling hills and lots of trees, I tend to slip into 5th gear and put my foot down. :embarassed:
Belgium Flatter than Luxembourg and with cities. Antwerp is a bit of a hole, but it gets extra points for having women sat in their bungalows with a red light on the porch....:2thumbsup: ...Oh and the beers not bad either.
Netherlands I liked this country, a lot. Nice people, good beer and food not too dissimilar to the UK. You have to have a spliff as well, it's the law. :sweatdrop:
UK As a northener I look at the south and north as almost different countries. London is a ********, so I only go there when I have no choice. However in the north we have the most beautiful countryside and best quality of life.
My choice?
Switzerland and the Netherlands tie.
The Netherlands would win hands down if it was a bit further south and hence warmer. :2thumbsup:

Re : Which is the best Country in EU?
Scandinavia.
They show how societies really should function. Compared to them, the rest of the world behaves like a bunch of monkeys in a cage. :embarassed:
Norway is the prettiest, Sweden has the fairest women, but Denmark rulez.
