Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans.
EB v0.81 is here! We originally said you could expect it "soon", but then we hit a snag which took time to resolve and then the Christmas season arrived and most EB members took some well-deserved time off. In January we resumed full work on 0.81 and hit some more snags, including several nasty CTDs. And to top it all off, our FTP server suffered some downtime, making it harder to coordinate the updates as we had to find other avenues for sharing modified files between us. But now the Patch is here, so rejoice and we are certain you will enjoy it!!
An interesting sidenote: As therother compiled the v.81 installer, he counted how many files EB had added or changed in RTW v1.5 and the number is: 19,765
Impressive eh!

Be sure to close all unnecessary applications before running the installer. If the installer crashes during the installation process, it is almost certainly a memory problem caused by too many open applications.
If your browser won't download the patch, please use a torrent or refer to this post for help
Past experience indicates that many of the reported problems with EB involve bad installations of either RTW or EB. Accordingly, if you follow these instructions EXACTLY, you should not have a problem:
1. Install RTW 1.0
2. Update RTW with the v1.3 Patch
3. Update RTW with the v1.5 Patch
4. Load a game to make sure RTW is working (i.e. it should list the version number on one of the screens - see "Note" below for details), and after confirming the version number, shut it down
5. Copy this entire folder to a new directory and rename THE COPY (for example, instead of "Rome: Total War" it would be "EB")
6. Install EB v.80 into the new "EB" directory
7. Load a game to make sure EB v.80 is working (you MUST load the game using the desktop shortcut created during the installation process), and after confirming that it loads properly, shut it down
8. Install the EB v.81 Patch into the new "EB" directory
9. Go to "\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\world\maps\base" and delete the file map.rwm. This is to make sure EB uses the latest map changes.
10. Load a game using the EBv81 desktop shortcut created during the installation process (The EB Menu screen will have "ver. 0.8.1" imprinted on the bottom left)
Note: If you have a newer version of RTW, or just aren't sure what version it is, be sure to load it and check. Launch a game of "vanilla", and at the RTW Menu screen, select "Options". The version number will appear on the top right of the next screen.

I am amazingly happy and sad right now.
Happy of course that .81 is out...
... but sad that I won't be able to play it for two weeks since I'm in Hong Kong with my family during the Spring Festival!
Oh well, I'm sure everyone else will be able to enjoy it! And 恭喜发财!新年快乐!
(oh, but I'm still going to DL it and help seed the torrent! hopefully I'll be able to read some good AARs during the two weeks!)

Wow, now that's a pleasant surprise. Perfect timing since I wanted to start a new campaign next week. I'm sure the waiting was worth it. Many thanks to the modders for this vastly improved version of the game!!

If the savegame doesn't work then that suggests a problem with campaign_script.txt, which can go into a loop and thus stop the game from saving (thankfully something that doesn't occur in MTW2 - thank God!). It is certainly odd that that is happening, especially if another has confirmed that it does indeed work. It may be a problem with a bad install or perhaps might just be a fluke.

DAMIT !!
I tried new campaigns with other factions , LOAD AND SAVE option works....
But aint working in the Lusitan campaign that i want to play , auto save doesnt work neither , and Load and save option are locked !!!!!
I alreasy reeinstal,, still doesnt work , how i ficx ths , pls help me

The torrents are a good call, I've gotten pretty much every release of EB that way, with some of the best speeds I've ever gotten from that medium.

I get a problem: missing skeleton for secondary weapon in Carthaginian infantry in export_units_descr.txt. Consequently the game won't start at all.

Strange people got it to work. So I guess that or you have corrupt download or you didn't install it properly. the 0.81 patch should be installed over a 0.8 version of EB. Then 0.8 must not have been modded.
EDit: I've seen others having the same problem. A reïnstall of 0.8 and 0.81 makes it working.
EDit2: deleting the map.rwm, in the EB/data/world/maps/base folder might help if you can't start campaigns.

I think its safe to say that a clean install of at least EB 0.8 before applying the patch is the best way to go here.

Notice to all EB fans. After installing the EB 0.81 patch you must delete map.rwm. map.rwm can be found in the following folder of your EB install:
[x]:\[RTW folder]\EB\data\world\maps\base\map.rwm
[x] is the drive letter on which the RTW you are using to run EB is installed.
[RTW folder] stands for the base folder of your RTW install, which contains RomeTW.exe.
The default is:
c:\program files\activision\rome - total war

Hi, I'm just post here to congratulate and giving my thanks to EB team. What an excellent patch it is! At first I thought it would just be a couple of bug fixes here and there, but then I loaded up the KH and saw the new general unit... it was amazing! And then there was this new Baktria General body guard!! and all the new stuff that have been add!!
Thanks you EB team, as aways you guys manages to not only meet, but in this case, exceed expectation! Keep up the good work guys! and thank you for all your hard work!!!

I made a new fresh installation of rtw vanilla , apllied 1.2 patch , 1.3 , 1.5 , o,8 and 0,81 .
Still when i started a new Lusitan campaign it doesnt let u save and auto save doesnt work either !!!!!!!!!!!
PLs , the ones that have the 0.81 already just try to make a new capaign wit Lusitan and try to save the current campaign, it doesnt work , repot here pls
I remind you , it happens only with Lusitan faction , ive already tested with other factions and save/load works , i think Lusitan faction is broken !!!! too bad i wanted to play them !!!

I had it working on RomeTW (1.5). Which makes it even stranger. Am currently checking it anew. The only explanation I can come up with is that a particular course of action would cause an infinite script-loop.
Will do a step-by-step check. Hopefully that casts a bit of light on this mystery.

One of our guys did a fresh install of the whole thing (080 plus 081 files) and he can save them for lusotannan. Very strange.
