Conquering cities, destroying every upgrade in the city, making loads of cash, then abandoning it to rebels. Not only does the computer have to destroy the rebels, but their city is now crap ;)
Spamming useless crap armies of peasants or militia and overwhelming them with sheer numbers :beam: . It does cost a lot of upkeep though:wall:
This sounds like a bad version of AA.
And uh... I like to steal generals with my princesses.

But it's not an addiction. I only do it at parties.
I mean, common everybody does it sometimes, right?
Horse archers and mounted crossbowmen. Heck, archers and crossbowmen in general, but especially mounted. There's just something about watching a hail of bolts and arrows smash into an advancing wave of enemy soldiers that pleases me much more than the actual melee.
And when they can't even strike back, they just have to keep marching under fire until they meet my infantry, which is when the HA charges against their rear and they break... ahhh, that's the best.

BTW Insane..just a word of caution about killing ur "friends" off.. if your assasins are discovered enough and fail their missions it will degrade your diplomatic relations to the point of war. So aim true!
I always build at least about five or six full stacks for when both the Mongols and the Timurids arrive.
And I love making enemy cities Rebel. Rebels seem cool by the mid-game, its like they're a novelty. Right now I've triggered a French war of independance in my Turkish campaign. So far with the aid of my spies and sabotaging assassins the rebels have liberated both Paris and Rheims from the English (a superpower in this campaign), and Bruges has the peasants revolt sign and is at 50% loyalty.
It's so difficult to do that on VH if you're the same religion.:wall:
My Imams helped a little, but not much. Rheims was at about 10% Islam, 90% Catholic when it rebelled. I've noticed in my own settlements heresy seems to create more unrest than other religions, perhaps having double the effect on public order.
I've got so many spies in Bruges there's a 164% chance they'll open the gates if I attack (and maybe I will now I just took Antwerp).:dizzy2:

I keep getting paid by france and sicily to assassinate their kings, for france, i had two of those missions in a row. Also i find your rebel tactic fun, i let rebels take florence as it was sieged every 2 seconds, and the garrison out-does any force my army can muster. On my milan campaign the same thing happened as soon as i took Antioch (i got it give to me from egypt along with 5000 gold) but i couldnt exterminate them all so they rebelled and i was forced to to Allepo instead.
In combat my gut instinct is to use spearmen rather than heavy infantry, so i often get crushed, but nothing beats heavy cavalry:no: My newest hobby is to get a really, monsterous family, i have 1 character, called something de vela, i have to keep him in a fort as the public order goes down to far if he is in a town. i almost had a revolt in Venice because i kept him there
If you find you have a province you can't control, just sell it off. In a deal with the Danes in my Turkish campaign, they happily gave me Stockholm for an alliance and trade rights. Of course I coudn't exterminate the population, and my closest settlement at the time was somewhere in the Balkans, so the population was in an uproar. Meanwhile, the Byzantines were reduced to holding Antioch and Nicosia. So with a little money exchanged, I got Antioch from them in return for Stockholm! Using the toggle_fow command, I watched it rebel after a couple of turns. The merc xbows the Byzantines were given in the settlement marched all the way down past Antioch, and then got stuck because their last province was Nicosia, on the Isle of Cyprus province.
Did a similar thing giving Naples to the Egyptians after I bought it off the Pope.
my would be mass enemy routs, happened more in rome but its just something to watch a 500 men army rout and chase them all down with 1 horse unit that leaves a beautiful trail of bodies to the end of the map

I am currently turtling with England, i havent even conquered the scots yet, and my only expansion is caernervon, york and rennes, and i have built up a mighty trade empire, with just about every nation in the world, and by god is it sweet, no rebellions, enough generals for several crusades and best of all, a holy roman empire giving me cities as long as i dont attack and disrupt their trade, being rich, they prophit less of me than i do them, and well, i have scots french and holy roamn empire at my mercy, i have the most modern armies there, and i could take france out of the game within a heartbeat :skull:

My addiction would have to be unnecessary modding.
I don't seem to be able to just play through a single session these days without exiting to tinker with something or other. Most of my old save games no longer work because I've modded so much since I last played them. My current version features cannons which fire such a superabundance of grapeshot that they will wipe out a unit of elephants in one volley, from the far side of the map.
I think next time I will be adding elephant rockets, available to all factions, from the start of the campaign, from a wooden castle.

I confess, I am addicted to spamming high level priests until I completely control the college of cardinals. Sometimes I even "cheat" by liquidating other factions priests to speed the process up.
I'm addicted to fielding "perfect" armies. I like a balanced army with the highest level units possible, upgraded with the best weapons and armor possible, and led by the best generals possible. I often waste a lot of time suffling units around the map to achieve this. Then, after the army has taken some casualties, I have to do more shuffling to bring it back up to its earlier pristine state of perfection. This can be seen in this post from an old RTW BI PBM, where I created several border armies. Legio II Italica, Legio VI Claudia Pia Fidelis, and Legio V Claudia Pia Fidelis can be seen and they're all of a relatively standard composition, with the best units available upgraded with the best weapons and armor I could find. I remember being slightly annoyed that Legio I Italica was never perfect because it saw constant action.
I would rather call it an obsession. I'm obsessed with keeping my missile units at full strength, meaning none of them gets killed during a fight. I'm fine with my infantry getting killed, and possibly some of my cavalry, but not my archers. They MUST keep full strength so that I may unload a full unit's load of arrows in the battle and thus save more of my men.
Running down routing armies with calvary.
Assassination, especially the pope after I get excommunicated.
Using artillery on the first turn to take a city/castle before the
pope knows about it.

I agree with Ed TW's. i have about 1 group of heavy cavalry mop of several hundred routing infantry, i mainly like to watch them fight to the death in impossible situations.
My biggest addiction as a result of this game...... the Guild! :laugh4:

War. I'm never at peace for more then 20 turns. Theres nothing quite like seeing your armies destory the weakened and out numbered enemy.
"Alright men, lets show them what a overly bloated runaway miltary defense budget can do!!"-Me.
I'm also addicted to having a perfect, full strength army of elite troops, and retrain units that are totally capable of fighting, march units to that remote castle with swordssmiths guild and armor factory just to maximize their effectiveness.
I remember in RTW, if you played Scipii it was possible to get troops with gold armor and weapons with a foundry and the right pantheon, plus some experience from the start, then I pumped out Urban Cohorts and Praetorian cavalry from that city :p
But my main addiction is probably limiting casualties as much as I can. It's weird how much I care about my imaginary soldiers! I especially HATE those mailed knights I routed that come back 15 strong and charge my no longer protected longbows, AAARRRRRGGH!!
I'm also addicted to incinerating people on bridges with that perfect catapult ball of flaming death. Getting a ballista lined up to the side of a pike line is also very rewarding =)
You my friend have a blod lust to match my own..
Does anyone else count the number of flaming bolts being shot by siege equipment to be sure that the game isn't cheating you?
Now my addiction is to keep the council of nobles as happy as possible, the pope may give you 500 gold at odd times, but the council of nobles gave me 3000 gold in 2 turns, right at the start of my campaign with milan, i captured flourence, gave it to the pope, then captured ajjacio, and now im moving on to bern, just to keep the council happy:beam:
getting and making marriage alliances with every possible fractions - even if i have to find excuses to bump off my existing princes and kings to the Lord's Judgement.
1. Getting really good horse-archers to hunt down Templars, Hospitaliers and the like....just like back in the days.....
2. Erasing city walls with a massive bombardement.
3. Hunt enemy kings/generals/family members on battlefield with trebuchets & canons to see them "enlightened"....oh, most of the times some of my men get bbq-ed to...well....
4. Hunt the pope! Just like old Frundsberg or the Hussites....
5. Danish war clerics just simply rule! When playing that faction I always love to have some of those....
6. Nasty, unknightly but well experienced Pavese crossbow-men postitioned well are able to do funny things to enemy lines.....love to watch that too....
Its a shame that whilst playing Egypt you cant make your son have more wifes, in a book im reading, the pharaoh had about 200 wifes, all of them around 16-30, how nice it would be to field and army of generals bodyguards, the good old days :thumbsdown:

I've playing the Britannia campaign as England & when William Wallace turned up I knew I had to get him.
I waited until he was in a nice fort with loads of highlanders - sieged the fort & brought up 4-5 mortars.
I then proceeded in true English cad style to just bombard the hell out of the compacted Scots...there was tartan & haggis flying in all directions....
It was a dirty way way to get rid of a major character but hey it worked!
