Trapped in Taormina [Concluded]
Taormina - Sicily.
https://i156.photobucket.com/albums/...atTaormina.jpg
The little mouse never knew what hit her. She was still enjoying a small piece of cheese she had found in a heap of rubble, when the claws hit her. The cat didn't feel like playing with the mouse and immediately ate it.
"Ah, the cruelty of nature", René said to his fiancee, Juliette, watching the little drama at the other end of the street.
It was hot that day in Taormina. Terasses were packed with tourists, eating gelatto, granite or drinking ice cold soda drinks.
"My granite is melting faster then I can eat it", Juliette said, sweat dripping from her forehead. She looked up to smile at her fiancee. She loved him and he still looked as gorgeous as the first time they met, in Paris.
"You still remember Paris, bijou?", she asked, her hart melting like her granite when she stared at his face. Accidentally, she dropped her handkerchief. She bowed quickly to grab it, laughing at ther own clumsiness.
René didn't answer. Juliette noticed the blood dripping. When she looked up, she saw René, with an amazed look on his face. The bullet between his eyes had almost instantly ended his life. He fell forward and his head bounced on the table.
Juliette's scream went unnoticed in the panic that broke loose. At the same time, the earth started to tremble and the howling screams of the people around her got lost in the overwhelming sound of the eruption of Mount Etna .
***
https://i156.photobucket.com/albums/...coTaormina.jpg
The surviving villagers and toursits gathered at the Theatro Grecco.
Pino di Luca stared at the remaining people of Taormina. He was amazed by the fact that half the town was in ruins, while the ancien theatre still looked like nothing happened.
"Ladies and gentlemen", Pino said, with a trembling voice. "As the last remaining official of the Taormina Carabinieri, it is my duty to tell you about what has happened. The eruption of Mount Etna cut us off from civilisation. Help is on it's way, but it may take weeks before they reach us. I have to ask you all to stay calm. We have plenty of supplies left. Some parts of the town are still in good shape, so there should be shelter for all of you. Please don't panic and go to sleep now."
***
Manfredo was standing in the crowd, looking at the blond hair of Juliette. Damned eruption! He was so close. The job was almost finished. Oh well, the Carabinieri said that there would be several weeks, plenty of time to find Juliette and kill her, without witnesses.
***
Gianluca was frustrated. The whole operation was ruined. There was no way to get the stuff to his boss now, unless... He shivered. He was a criminal and had committed alot of crimes in his life. But the thought of having to kill every single one of the surviving villagers and tourists didn't make him happy. He looked at his partner. Luciano shrugged. He didn't seem to care. "Damn, that guy is cold as ice", Gianluca thought and he felt even worse.
***
Taketsi was pleased by his good fortune. This would make his work easier. He already knew where the stuff of the Carelli family was hidden. Now all he had to do was killing the Carelli's, take care of the pathetic villagers and tourists and leave with the bomb. His yakuza boss would be very pleased and maybe he would be made oyabun.
***
Juliette was still mourning the death of her fiancee. He wasn't supposed to die! That bullet was meant for her. The falling handkerchief saved her life, but she was the one who should have been dead now.
"Revenge will be mine!"
***
The man wearing a black cloak, standing at the opposite side of the theatre watched the group of people. He grinned.
***
Welcome to "Trapped in Taormina"!
Rules:
Roles :
- Manfredo : a hired assasin. His job was to kill Juliette. He accidentally hit her fiancee. He is allowed to investigate 3 players each night. These results are only useful for his own victory condition though. He won't get clues about a player's innocence. He investigates to discover Juliette. So he will only get results like "nope" or "yes, you found her!". He must kill Juliette and survive the game. However, he still has more then one bullet left in his gun, so who knows what this pro does after he has killed Juliette?
- Gianluca and Luciano : two made gangsters of the Carelli family. They have a stash of illegal nuclear weapons hidden in Taormina. They have to get it out of the place, without witnesses. Since the stash is big and they'll have to use a truck, they won't be able to leave unnoticed under the current circumstances. So, they'll have to kill every inhabitant of the town. Only guilty on investigation when performing a kill.
- Taketsi : one of the most cruel killers wandering around this earth. He's a member of an important yakuza family. His job is to take out Gianluca and Luciano and to get the nuclear weapons out of the place. He is able investigate 2 players each night or to kill 1 player. When killing, he'll turn out guilty upon investigation by the Carabinieri or Juliette. If he doesn't kill at night, he'll turn up innocent.
- Juliette: Secret agent. She was enjoying a holiday with her fiancee, who got unfortunately killed. She has the ability to investigate one player each night. If she happens to discover the hitman, she will have a 50 % chance of killing him during a unique attempt. If she fails, she will die.
- Carabinieri: a classic detective. Can investigate one player each night.
- Prostitute: gets to spend the night with one player each night. Night actions of that player will be blocked. If the player gets attacked or investigated, the attack and investigation will fail. An attack on the player sleeping with the prostitute has a 33 % chance of killing the prostitute.
- The man wearing a black cloak : classified information
Roles will be assigned using random.org.
* no private reveals.
* it's not allowed to quote role pm's or night actions results in private. Feel free to quote all other pm traffic, including mine (unless I explicity state that you are not allowed to quote my pm). You can quote/fabricate/forge anything you want in the public thread while being alive. Quoting chatlogs idem ditto.
* no screenshots.
* the dead are allowed to talk in the thread, but cannot communicate about this game outside of the thread.
* no post mortem reveal of role/night actions. no post mortem quoting of pm's, chatlogs or any other non public communication you had while still alive. Paraphrasing, alluding, fabricating, forging is allowed.
* MOST IMPORTANT RULE : HAVE FUN!

Most important thing for a new player to learn is some of the traditions we have. For example, game mods always give me an innocent role. The other guys like to make jokes about how I shouldn't be trusted but they're just playin.

Hello mate.
WE have to wait for more players. The game could start soon, so keep watching it.
Some things you should learn:
You will be voted in round 1. This is a welcome we, the veteran mafia players, do. Don't worry, you won't be lynched.
The rules. Seriously.
Do not make suspiction of yourself.
Have fun, and dont get angry if the mafia use you for their victory. After all, they are the bad people of the movie!

Re: Trapped in Taormina - sign up phase
Hi Axel ~
This Thread gives a good explanation of what mafia is all about. It also includes a dictionary of common terms used in mafia as well as links to some of the older large games.
Here is a game that was recently played with a similar number of players to this one. It should give you a basic idea of what mafia is like. If you go to the end of the thread you will find links to the various behind the scenes discussions. (note: Andres game looks like it is a little less complicated)

I hope its less complicated...:sweatdrop:

The game is played in this thread. We are just waiting for Andres to start it.
The only thing that might help you is reading old games, which are all in this forum.

Step 1: Cast suspicion
Step 2: Avoid suspicion
Step 3: Kill the other side
Step 4: Avoid getting killed
Lather, rinse, repeat, until you're among the last men standing on the winning side. That's about it, I think.
--edit to add --:
There's nothing to download. There are no graphics. It's a text-based, story-telling, role playing game. Andres (the host) will send you your role by PM. You won't know the other players' roles. Your job will be:
1. Guess the other players' roles
2. Figure out who is your "friend" and who is your "enemy".
3. Help your friends, and kill your enemies. Don't get killed yourself.

Day Zero
...Please don't panic and go to sleep now."
Pino di Luca watched the group of villagers leaving the theatre.
When the theatre was empty, he cursed. "Don't panic! Hah! What else could I tell them? If only they knew..."
With a bad feeling, he went to what's left of the Carabinieri building...
***
SIGN UPS ARE CLOSED !
Role pm's going out soon.
The game will start with a NIGHT PHASE, which will last for approximately 24 hours (might be a bit longer, might be late back home tomorrow).
First post has been updated, so please read carefully (especially the part about quoting/dead players/pm's).
Townie pm is publicly available, to avoid circumvention of the rules:

Alright, I want to see if I have something straight.
If I look at someone's profile, and their light bulb is not lit, and they have no "Last Activity:" status showing, then they are invisible?
If that's the case at least half of the game is lurking right now.
I don't trust invisible people...

Re: Trapped in Taormina
It's required in some games. Used as a precaution after profile-watchers caught people PMing in previous games and nailed the mafiosi that way.

I'm amused that some think there is only one possible reason to PM. Those of us in the throne room games PM each other regularly.

But do you have a reason to exchange pm's with another player in the game and then send a pm to the mod who then posts the night kills? It's possible to see an exchange by watching several profiles at once.

Well there are a lot of KotR players in the gameroom so if a Mafia game was run by GH, gibson, EF, ect.. then yeah I could see it happening and having nothing to do with Mafia.
A lot of us PM constantly for RolePlaying reasons. It's why KotR players were allowed to get an expanded PM limit.

Re: Trapped in Taormina
Two female roles (Juliette & Prostitute). Two female players (Makanyane & Proletariet). Hmmm...
Nah, he used random.org. So some guys are probably playing the prostitute and the secret agent.
Just making idle conversation.
Guess I'd better "go invisible".

Re: Trapped in Taormina
Look guys. We just had a volcanic eruption. How are we going to know who survived the natural disaster if everyone is see-through?
:clown:
-
Re: Trapped in Taormina
I shall put forth the theory that privateerkev wants people to turn off invisibility mode so that he can watch for the detective pm'ing andres. Another part of the theory is that he is putting forward his "as a KotR player it is useless to watch my profile" to provide himself with an alibi if people see him sending his kill order pm's to the game host.

:laugh4: You have a point! But deception is part and parcel of mafia games in my (limited) experiance. Learn to live with rather than going on a righteous Crusade. Otherwise, as Sasaki has pointed out, you could draw unwanted attention to yourself, from both sides.

But if people PM for all sorts of reasons, that wouldn't be very useful to someone who is "PM hunting".

If the only evidence people have against me is the fact that I PM people, then I will laugh to the gallows. :D
No, my real issue is with invisible wraiths talking after volcanic events. It makes me nervous. Maybe they came from the ground itself. Kind of spooky.
It is duly noted though that Sasaki is already trying to build a case against a brand new player who's only crime so far is being curious and fearing volcanic wraiths.
I will be watching you...
That is... if I could see you... :inquisitive:

as for wraiths, I have very little right now. Just half of the people in this town are floating around after a massive volcanic explosion. Kind of suspicious to me...
as for you building a case, you said you have two theories against me. One of your theories is that I have some sort of plot to watch you PM people. The other theory is that I want to cover my own PM activities.
Both are absurd because PM'ing is done for all sorts of reasons. I read the post about the program that watched people PM each other and laughed. The fact that you guys get so paranoid that you try to do a "deep reading" of every possible intersection a human makes on an internet bulletin board simply amuses me.
The fact that human beings can float around invisible after a volcanic eruption should be more of a cause for concern than anyone's PM habits.
Basically, I'm bored and I'm new so I like to get in and mix it up a little. :beam:
We're playing a game where we are all supposed to find out who we can trust. But how can I trust people I can't see?
Also, if you fear "PM hunters", can't you just do quicktopic, email, or IM's? Why be a volcanic wraith? If you can answer me that, it might put my mind a little at ease...
-

Maybe if I can make people think I really don't want to watch them PM then they will drop invisibility and then PM but they will probably know I am watching so they will just leave their PM menu open when they sleep but since it is open at some point in the night they will probably get up and send a PM anyways and then I will have them but they will remember I am watching so it won't be an important PM but maybe they will realize that no one can watch them 24/7 so maybe they will let an important one slip and from that one slip I can then divine the inner secrets to the entire game and win big and get more chocolate chip cookies that have been microwaved for a little bit but not too long.
Anyways, I'm going to bed. Now I don't want any of you volcanic wraiths to follow me into the bedroom. That would just be creepy. Hopefully my cat will warn me if a wraith is around. She's a crappy hunter but good at warning me of things.
For your profile watching entertainment, I will open up a PM and then shut the monitor off. You may divine what you wish from an 8 hour PM writing session. :clown:
