Anyone else a fan besides me?
I listen to very little. Didn't listen at all before I had heard of MF Doom; a rapper inspired by shrooms and comic books rather than crack is quite a refreshing change.
By the way, anyone know of any other such out-there rappers?
Nah! Where are the times them MC's just announced the DJ's. They should have stick to that. Though I must admit that while most of it is cheesy moneymaking :daisy:, there's are some gems if you look close enough.
Rap and Hiphop I absolutely loathe. Sorry, had to get that off my chest.
little bit
isn't flo rida a rapper? lols
Aight I be listen to Snoop while smacking dem hoes, be taking down (slur) before da coppas show. Got my bling on my neck, and my gun in my ride, be wearing pimp clothes, they be looking fly. Got "Peace" and "Love" tatooed on my fingers. Riding through da hood picking up dem swingas!!! Oh!
Me? Not much, no.
If we're talking about the composition of bigger-than-his-brain-sized blings, hemorrhagingly idiotic level of luxury show-off and gigantic pairs of buttocks mean to be rap. NO.
If we're not talking about that disgusting MTV bastardization, some groovy beat with harmonical sets of words spiced with catchy samples are never bad for one's ear.
I used to have to listen to some New York City cable tv rap stations, some were in Hispanic too, while at work covering inmate recreation at the jail. Maybe it's a generational/cultural thing, my dad hated the rock music I listened to as a kid, but for me it's....umm....:daisy:. Yeah, definitely :daisy:.Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Rappers are to music what hooliganis are to football.
Sure, rap music is party music. That's why it's so popular.
if you mean american/english "gangsta" rap...I listen to very little of it....I consider it acceptable as "soundtrack" music on a movie or tv show...but I wouldn´t listen to it...same if you go to a club....I don´t mind listening to it at a club...but I wouldn´t listen to it at home.
there is one brazilian rapper that I rather like, Gabriel "O Pensador" (the thinker) is a great artist in my opinion, his songs are not straight rap but add a lot of other musical flavors, also also sings about more important subjects then how many "hos" he got last month.
-shudders-
Rap = abomination
I spot an oxymoron.:juggle2:
If the lyrics are worthy enough, sure. One of the very few that lives up to that is this one. Dig it! :2thumbsup:
Okay, now this is a good song: stream-of-consciousness lyrics, semi-experimental instrumentation and a good beat.
Psychedelic rap.
like most genres, i listen to a bit of it, here and there.
Illest thing i have heard to date. THIS IS HIP HOP. Ill Bill:Society is Brainwashed-Produced by DJ Premier.
Pure Classic: Big Pun:How We Roll Feat. Ashanti
As you can tell from this track, It was made before Rap became the bulldookie it is today.
A lot of the Underground stuff has stayed true to the roots though. PaceWon:Hip Hop...Yeah this guy's from Newark, which is close to where i live. You can see the Highway sign for it in the beginning.
:furious3:
:soapbox:
:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
Sorry dude but IMNSHO He's one of the worst there is. Completely commercialized materialistic crap.
If you wanna rap about money and Possesions and such, at least do it in a way that takes skill.
See the Big Pun track i posted earlier.
I have got a question: I have been looking for a song for ages. It's a rap (as far as I can tell) and the chorus is sung by some Russian opera singer (in Russian). The song must have been sort of a hit (at least over here in the Old World) in the 90s. Can anyone help?
You can probably tell, that I am not very well versed in the art of rap music. My apologies. Also, this has probably nothing to do with the topic. Some more apologies.
Quid
Gabriel o Pensador stuff:
Racismo é burrice (Racism is dumb)
Ate quando? (until when?
lorraBurra (dumb blond)
Tas a ver (can you see?)
"tech n9ne"? "caribou lou"?
hahaha, is that guy being satirical?
Wayne IMO is better his beats his voice the whole thing. He has a lot more skill. Pun doesnt have the beats to compare with Wayne or other mainstream guys nor does he have the lyrical depth to compete with guys like Aesop rock or immortal Technique.
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=0dRgYd5Mxs0
Ive posted this here before.
The Beats may not be as good, I will admit wayne has better beats,(he died of a heart attack in i think '97) But his Lyrics Suck. I would go as far as to say you might be right about Tech, but i'm not gonna do that. Pun was a LEGEND! I cant say whether tech is better.
Oh, and I cant figure out what Aesop is talking about 90% of the time. And its not because i dont understand the words, its that his bars just dont make sense.
oh, and i'm gonna repost this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSWE3JTScFg.
He's sooooo much better than wayne. And dont go saying that "wayne's beats are better" because thats a DJ Premier track.
Wayne can surprise you from time to time but he is really just party music. Tech is legit I would put his lyrics up against anyone else's
The idea that lyrical depth is important is silly and pretentious.
Rap with the rude amount of ice and bling, thats not rap. Thats just disgusting.
Rap with a message, thats rap.
Disgusting. And you call yourself a Texan....
I'm a white middle class British guy who listens to Nirvana and Sinatra, and i quite like rap when there's more to it than nines, bling and bitches.
Also, while we're on the subject of rap, my personal favourite at the moment...

:2thumbsup:
I have to say, "Drop it like it's Hot" was actually pretty nice for me.

favorite rapper
Not a whole lot, but I dig it's 2nd cousin...
Reggaeton, mijo.
yeah i used to like his stuff alot, but he changed, started making all these corny songs, completely sold out to interscope, and on top of that there is evidence that he started rapping the way he did when he was so awesome, because he took a bunch of other people's styles and put it together.
Examples of his stuff BEFORE he Bit other peoples steez.
Eminem-Infinite(1996:yes:)
Eminem-Tonight, and -Maxine. (1996)
After He linked up with a New Jersey group called the Outsidaz (I live in NJ) he totally changed his style due to being in their group.
EX:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXjN58aMAZI
Notice he shouts out Outsidaz, and Young Zee and Pace Won, both members of the Outsidaz.
Outsidaz Feat. Eminem-Macosa
Outsidaz Feat. Eminem-Rush Ya Clique
There is also evidence he stole from Cage...some say that its the other way around but i doubt it because Cage came out first.
Cage-Agent Orange
Now examples of the WACKNESSSSS he turned into after he sold out to Interscope.
Just Lose It
Cleanin out my closet
In response to his newfound commercialism and WACKNESS, PaceWon(his old friend from the Outsidaz) Dissed him with this track: Pacewon- Rap Music (eminem Diss)
Granted some of his stuff was good even after he made it big,(especially the songs dissin Benzino and Ja Rule) but he went down hill after a while.
yeah most people dont know about him and outsidaz...i prolly wouldnt if i didn't live in New Jersey.
Eminem never responded back to the diss from his old friend PaceWon. He had beef with Canibus too and his diss track was better than Canibus's response, but after Em said a bunch of stuff talkin crap about him on a video, Canibus Responded back and totally destroyed him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMuDpffr_w0
He destroys him on this one too (ZOMG he kills him so bad!!!) Curriculum 101
I completely agree with that :smash:
You my friend, sound like the type to dig Immortal Technique
You might wanna listen to Aesop Rock, The Puppet Masterz, The Disposable Heroes of Hipocracy (rare but awesome, Mike Franti used to be MC), Meat Beat Manifesto, Food for Animals and the like. DJ Dangermouses "Grey Album" may be of special interest!
Generally speaking:
Besides all sorts of sound I have a very close relation to HipHop/ Rap. There are artists like Gangstaar, A Tribe Called Quest, The Beasties, EPMD, Eric B. and Rakim, Dre, Snoop, Knderzimmer Productions (German), The Pharcyde, Timbaland, to name but a few.
There is good rap music out there, but 2 all of those bling bling shouting braindamaged hooligan rappers shouting over some mobile phone samples...my illustrious arse!
I like it, but mostly semi-underground kinda stuff. Like this. Or something more old-school like Jedi Mind Tricks. None of that gangsta or MTV stuff for me, no sir.
Most of it isn't really my thing but I can enjoy some rap.
Rap is not for me, but I do dig one artist who raps, like an old soul record:

This is beyond rap though. I'm not sure how it would be classified. One clip seems to be from a jazz show. Anyway, a very underrated bassist/songwriter. Luv her style, luv her stuff ...
(and loved those nights of endless dancing with you, Chile, wherever you are!)
Masamune, that's pretty cool stuff. Never heard of 'r, but I dig it ~:)
I listen pretty much everything coming out. I'm hungry for the music, so producers are more important for me than the artists singing whatever they sing. I also listen a lot of instrumental mixtapes. Whole DMX discography is great. M.O.P., Cypress Hill, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, I have been listening everything from them for a long time now. Nas had great albums till Street's Disciple album came out. Luda has some great stuff and Wu Tang also.
I mean I haven't been listening the lyrics for over 8 years now. It's all about the beats, the music. All that Beefing and throwing punch lines between various artist, was kind of fun few years ago. At least some of the best beats are on the background of those tracks.
after seeing Tom Cruise hilarious dance to a rap song on the movie Tropic Thunder my respect for rap is kinda restored...and for Tom Cruise also....man that was funny :laugh4:

Odd video of a song with the most striking lyrics wrote in french for the last thirty years. (damn it's already ten years old. Si I am....)
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=-hhi-l...eature=related
la Rumeur, le monde ivre", "the drunk world". by far the best lyrics in contemporary french rap. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Rumeur
and also http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=R0AKWW...eature=related also ten years old, alas.... a song about one of the band's leader going back to Togo, and being treated a nigger by his cousins, felling like sitting between two chairs.
SICK!!!!!:yes::2thumbsup:
Never Say Never At All
Don't know how many of you have heard this. I think it's quite unique. Great music.
Joe Budden - Walk With Me

Repost because it didnt work first time.
Slaine and Sicknature- "Never Say Never at all
this track gets me so hyped. The beat is straight up fire.
everyone likes outkast.
Is there some site out there that tracks album releases? It would be nice to check out what albums are about to come out. This genre pushes out so much it's hard to track for me.
How about music, a set of samples technically form first Max Payne?

Still hooking for me...
:verycool: Lupe Fiasco :bounce::2cents:
I grew up with a style of rap called "Bounce," which first developed in New Orleans during the 80s.
Here's a few examples:
Ricky B.: Yall Holla!
M.C. Thick: Marrero
D.J. Jubilee: Get it Ready, Ready! (Live)
New East Coast Avengers!!!
Kill Bill O'reilly
this song could actually be posted in the backroom!
Gangsta rap is the personification and manifestation of a culture in need of education and/or bulldozers. Whatever happened to 80s rap, when the song wasn't just about toking or smacking up your woman of ill repute?
it still exists, my theory is that record execs want to project black people as stupid and ignorant people who only care about money, and will not sign anyone who promotes good hip-hop.
listen to this guy:Sabac Red-Shift of the Earth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87iu73J6CQs
Listen to that beat, it's awesome!
one of my favorite AOTP tracks!!!!
lmao!:laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
Wasn't everyone listening to this in the 80's?
