Re: Notable Afro-American actors
Trivia: Whoopi Goldberg hates the label of African American. To paraphrase her, "If you're born in America, you are American."
And I agree with her.

I definitely prefer "black" but restrained fearing that somebody could find it offensive.

Re: Notable Afro-American actors
"Black" is superior to "African-American" on every level. It's one syllable versus seven, so on a linguistic basis it kicks booty. Also, how can you call Colin Powell, to pick an example, "African-American"? The guy's parents are from the Caribbean, not Africa. And what about black people from South America?
But the stake through the heart of "African-American," for this lemur, is the seven syllables when there's a perfectly good alternative that has but one syllable.

Viggo Mortensen.
May I ask about the source of this specific interest, Moussé ?

Re: Notable Afro-American actors
Most really do prefer being called black, it denotes being on the same level as White, Indian, Latino, Asian, Etc. Being Called African-American is basically saying they're not the same.
oh... hmmm; Halle Barry

Re: Notable Afro-American actors
Chris Tucker.
Eddie Murphy
Halle Berry

It's similar to saying "german american" and not meant to be an equivalent to "black" I thought.

God forbid there are any blacks in counties like Canada or Britain. And what about the whites in South Africa? If they immigrate to America, are they still considered African-American and get the benefits of the NAACP? :tongueg:

But the title says Afro-American, so just find a picture of him wearing an afro and everything will be fine.:idea2:

Oh, uh, my jokes have been so lame lately that they are taken for serious. (this is not an opportunity for you to say that they always were, I'll shoot you all in the heels with RPG.)
I'll askthepizzaguy about this issue anyway. :smoking:

Regarding the fact that he was the one to accommodate me to The Org 's circle before getting kicked out in my Armenian Issue thread here back in 2005, yeah, what you said sounds as accurate as Viggo Mortensen being Nordic-American :2thumbsup:

Excellent addition! Between him, Fishburne, Freeman, and Samuel L. Jackson, I would say they easily comprise my personal favorites.
Also, Avery Brooks. Loved him as Captain Sisko on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. :2thumbsup:
