PBeM minimod updated for v1.2

Most of the .Org is asleep right now, but I'll just leave this here anyway for when I wake up :laugh4:

ITT is my PBeM minimod for EB. It's as easy to set up as humanly possible, but some might have a question or two. Feel free to ask.

With that, this can serve as the first EB PBeM signup thread. Post if your interested. As a true praetorian, I claim the Romanii :clown: (if anyone is interested).

Ok, first post will have factions and players listed. If anyone wants to suggest rules just post it. A definite rule is it will be on EBv1.2 with RTW.exe.

I would suggest we use City Mod 5.1a, but that is just IMO. I also think it is a MUST to add the force diplomacy minimod...without it the game wouldn't be possible.

Other then that I'm all ears :smug:

I know it might be tricky for some of the inexperienced, but it was impossible for me to set up a "one install minimod" since there are some 400 combonations for choosing factions.

I am pretty damn impressed that you have managed to hack this into the game but at the same time I feel it's not gonna be too practical. If you've got to send your turn by email, every turn, the game is going to take a very long time. I'm sure someone is gonna be happy to have the option though, so good work.

You should check out the Throne Room and all those M2TW PBeM's.
Yes, it takes them a lot of time but this here allows you to play EB against other humans and I think it's .. well .. fantastic! :beam:

Like Ibn-Khaldun said, I am not the creator of PBeM's..far from it. They have been played in the Throne Room ever since Myrrdraal completed the generator. So, as far as lack of appeal, im not worried about it ~;) Besides, humans are much more fun to play with. With hardcoded computers, it's kind of hard to have logical opponents.

EDIT: BTW, as mentioned by Subotan, I looked up the EB1.2 minimod pack. Going over them I think that they are all great improvements...so I installed them :guilty: They just looked so good. So, I can re-install no problem, but I highly suggest we use the minimod pack, they city mod for the pack, and the phalanx mod for the pack. Up to the majority though.

Yeah. I'd very much like to see someone snag Carthage or some other western faction. If it's only me and TP there I would feel much too lonely. :shame:

Wasnt able to get on yesterday but the thread is still alive.

Still taking "applications" for factions. I think it would be GREAT to fill up every faction...we may never finish such a game but it would be a hell of alot of fun :laugh3:

Double post but I pulled my groin doing squats today and my internet loads edits very slow tonight :juggle2: = No patience.

As to Sarkiss' suggestion, I installed the minimod pack to try it out. I installed all of it, the 5.1a city mod for it, and the phalnx mod for it (all on the same page)

IMO, and Sarkiss', it adds alot of realism. My vote is for this little thing, but again if majority says no then..well..no :smile2:

Also, I think it would speed things up if we "recruited", or spread the word. Just PM a friend and ask if he's interested. If not, we all PM him 5,000 times a day with the same message until we "convince" him to join. :clown:

I wouldn't have been a Celtic Viking, nor would I have chosen Arverni, if I was. Civil war, baby!

Got you in as Makedonia, and yeah that is a good idea. But I think we should wait until we have enough players to show whomever the Throne Room moderator we have soem dedication.

@-Subotan: The files don't need to be changed until we start, so if you switch back to the original files you can play single player..or you can play a multi-faction campaign as you wait :2thumbsup:

But yes, when we get enough players (whenever that is) I will start by going over installation and setup, etc etc.

If we can get two people to play Karthadastim and Ptolemaioi we should just go ahead and start and let others join later if they wish.

Can I shotgun Qarthadastim? also, how would diplomacy work in this game? Would we make an agreement with the appropriate person in RL and then FD it?

Yeah, once this gets going hopefully we can get our own subforum and have whole threads where we can RP diplomacy and then FD in-game.

Thread still alive. Having problems updating lately..girls take up many many hours.

But I think it would be a great idea to start it up now. We have most of the major factions to make it interesting...perhaps if we advertise as we go on players will see it as a fun oppurtunity.

As for rules I think we can agree the mini-mod pack is a must with the city mod. I am personally vouching for the phalanx mod to go with it, but if no one else wants it oh well.

As for diplomacy..thats the great thing! No more dumb AI! Yes, you can PM each other and make secret pacts and what not and we can make it work with force diplomacy. Of course this would need a great amount of trust, but i think we can handle it :2thumbsup:

I feel I'll be seeing a lot of you and your upstart little republic in this game. Will we also autocalc when we fight each other?

Yes, I believe all battles will have to be autocalc'd.

Urm, how do you fight in the battles by email? I see the campaign option, thats fairly easy.

I believe we would just autocalc when we fight a fellow human. When fighting the Eleutheroi, that would be fair game. I think....

Well as for the battles it will most certainly be Autocalced as that provides the fastest way. Otherwise, both players would have to get together online every single time they wanted to battle...which would take forever. Plus, everyone would have to know/learn how to script in battle casualties.

As for the Eleutheroi, yes they are fair game. Auto-calcing against them could prove to be foolish as they have high-ranked generals.

As for a sub-forum I will work on that soon. It appears that we may have to play a turn or two to let them know we are serious about this. A sub-forum would definately help organize things. This can be discussed later.

I usually use VH/M but if H/M is prefered we can do that.


I am now currently seeking a sub-forum. I've decided if we can get one more greek faction and the Egyptians we can start. Typically the mediterranian-based factions are the powerhouses and battle each other, so the smaller factions shouldn't have to worry about all the competition and it will give them a chance to rival the others in strength.

Sarkiss if you want to you can trade for the Ptolomies, but it is not holding anyone up so you don't have to worry about it :clown:

But yes, I will make the first post a checklist rather then a signup thread so that when the major factions are covered we can begin.

Also, if anyone can get me faction maps for the Saka and Saumoratae I would greatly appreciate it as the recruitment viewer didn't have anything on government placement which is needed since everything is homeland for every faction.

I prefer H/M, I find that on that setting the AI tends to be a bit more reasonable as far as diplomacy goes and also has more reasonable army compositions and doesn't send stacks upon stacks of elites at you, but I'll go with what the majority wants.

Note there are no money bonuses anymore except for the Eleutheroi so the AI can't build elite stacks as much as before.

As for AI diplomacy I am sure since we are using Force Diplomacy that we can "role play" a little bit as long as it's reasonable...like a ceasefire when they have one settlement and two units left :juggle2:
But the AI is the AI, and IMO we will be more concerned with "hidden" diplomacy between players then we will with stupid AI :laugh4:


Speaking of which, I want to note that the AI may make certain "choices" for you when it's not your turn..such as accept that ceasefire you don't want with another AI faction. So, if I can get this subforum we will have an "Official Diplomacy" thread. We will make it so anything diplomacy-wise will be recorded. If you are for some reason allies with someone you are not supposed to be don't worry about it, it will be recorded so you can double check, and then you can FD it back into shape. This problem only happens when your faction is "AI" and a real AI does something.

And for the sake of sieges if your faction takes a city when it's not your turn make sure you delete the Government building before you build anything.

EDIT:
Before I forget, bovi has made a new fix for EBv1.2 to the EBBS..something to do with the Sweboz reforms. Don't worry about it, I will edit the minimod and update it when we get started. I also plan on making a "confirmation" thread to make sure everyone has the game set up properly.

TinCow in the Throne Room may grant us a prefix for the threads. He says that a PBeM shouldn't require a subforum since it will not generate tons of traffic..but if it starts to get big he will ask. This is fine, a prefix is easily identifiable and will suit the same needs.

Now, all we need is someone to play the Ptolomies.

I notice a distinct lack of Steppe/Barbaroi factions. I would have thought people like Olaf would have been first over the parapet to show how awesome their particular smelly tribe is :P

I would have thought this whole hotseat would be filled in minutes now we finally have PBeM.
