The COUNCIL OF THE MAGI is at hand.

Held only once every ten years the Council convenes to decide which of their number should be elevated to the status of Magus Supremo - Master of all Magic for the decade to come.

Only the first thirteen Magi to solve the riddles and enter the fabled Tower of Sorcery are able to form the Council; and with representatives present from the most powerful and ancient orders of Magic, the Council is always politically charged, very competitive and – according to legend – has even proved to be fatal for some of it’s less successful participants. At that time however, the Dark Sorcerors known as Magi Mafiosi still stalked the land ~ and magic was in constant use as a tool of war.

Thankfully those wild old days are long since passed : Over the last hundred years or so, the incidents closest to actual conflict have been marked by the occasional singed beard, or sleet-filled robe, as the perpetual squabble between the Order of The Unbridled Flame and the Order of The Icy Tempest continues with its own - barely sufferable - predictability…

…until now.

Despite the belief of the Council; that The Magi Mafiosi had been banished unto the eternal void for an infinity of harmlessness and boredom:- One of their infernal number escaped before the mass exile and; remaining in hiding for more than a century and slowly gaining in power, now seeks to return the shadowy order to its former malificent potency.

The Magus Mafioso has chosen the imminent COUNCIL OF THE MAGI to exact terrible revenge and seize the power required to release their evil brethren.



RULES:

COUNCIL OF THE MAGI is a mafia game for 13 players: Split into Day and Night phases as usual. Each day phase should last at least 24 hours - potentially more at weekends, but certainly no more than 48 hours. Each night phase shall last between 12 and 24 hours, or until I have all Night orders in and processed. Timings are sure to change and I shall state the deadline for posting votes and orders more specifically in the thread as we proceed.

Except for screen grabs, Players may post anything they like in the thread EXCEPT THE EXPLICIT IDENTITY OF YOUR ORDER OF MAGIC! For reasons that shall become clear in the thread; ANY MAGE WHO PUBLICLY REVEALS THEIR ORDER OF MAGIC MAY BE DISMISSED FROM THE COUNCIL WITHOUT WARNING!

During each Day phase the Council must vote for whichever Mage they wish to send into the void until the Magus Mafioso is correctly exiled. You may vote: Abstain, or vote: 'No Lynch', but one way or another, one of the Mages present will be exiled even in the event of a tie.

All the usual voting protocols apply: ie. Votes must be formatted in bold like so:

If you wish to change your vote, you must
unvote: boudica, vote:Askthepizzaguy

Official votes and vote changes should not appear in posts which have been edited - although the last judgement on whether a vote is counted or not is mine. Don't mess with the tally etc.

Players who have been sent UNTO THE VOID! (lynched) or night-killed MAY NOT play any further part in the game without contacting me first. That means: NO posting in the thread and NO discussing the game privately with active/exiled/dead players unless you use me as a go-between.

Players may be kicked from the game at the hosts discretion. but if this happens it will probably mean they have blatantly ignored some of the rules.

This may sound hypocritical due to my variable online time - especially at weekends, but... PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU CANNOT COMMIT AT LEAST A DAILY CHECK OF THE THREAD.

ADDITIONAL RULES will be revealed in due course. Any further questions - please PM me, or ask below. Game will commence once we have 13 confirmed starters.

After extensive traveling through the lands of Gaymeruhm and triumphantly passing the tests at the tower gates; thirteen chosen Magi wait expectantly in the Great Hall, for the current MAGUS SUPREMO; Boudica The n00bZoR!, to arrive and bring the Council into session.

From beneath the cowls of identical robes the Magi cast each other furtive glances. It is a given that all who have passed into the Tower of Sorcery are gifted Wizards and so; whimsical precedent dictates that the new Magus Supremo should be elected only by demonstration of their arts of persuasion, and that all Magi should remain anonymous throughout the Council, to prevent any one particular Order from gaining an advantage over the others: Breaking of this rule is grounds for dismissal from the Council!

To facilitate communication while the Council is in session, a minion of The Magus Supremo scuttles down the line of 13 Magi - from one shrouded figure to the next - tapping each on the chest with a small glowing wand. As the twinkling lights settle above each Mages' heart, they first assume the shape of letters, and then spectrally shuffle to form the code names by which each Mage shall be known for the duration of the Council, and hence transcribed unto legend. The code names are as follows:

Once all 13 Magi have been so adorned, the chief administrator of the Tower of Sorcery coughs nervously, and speaks thusly:

"Great and powerful Magi - We, your humble servants, welcome you to the Tower of Sorcery and bid you a pleasant stay. While the Magus Supremo commits the rituals which purge her of any further responsibility for the sorcerous welfare of the Lands of Gaymeruhm, we should be pleased to bid you pass through the double doors to your left where you will find our comfortable and spacious Conference Centre Cocktail Lounge. A complimentary glass of Bucks Fizz and voucher for a 10-inch plate for the Eat-As-Much-As-You-Like Cold Buffet await each of you!

Now if I might beg your attention for a further moment or two, in order to highlight some of the safety procedures that should be adhered to at all times duri.... oh!...

....they've gone."

The double doors to the Tower of Sorcery Conference Centre Cocktail Lounge swing back and forth as the last flapping robe signals the end of the stampede of the Magi.

The chief administrator shrugs and claps for a minion,
"Well - I guess they'll all get to know each other while they wait, now go and put a copy of the fire drill procedure in each of the rooms... on the pillows with the mints."

You may begin posting in the thread, but there is no reason to vote, as the act of unspeakable and violent evil which will be done in order to make voting necessary has actually not happened... yet.

*A noble man looks at his fellow Council assured that he would get through this alive, with such clear louts & apprentices parading around the room.

Magus Supremo I must thank you for you hospitallity you have truely made a paradise here. I must congratulate you on that spell that made the garden outisde you must tell it to me some time. I feel like this place is indeed a great sanctury from the hustle and bustle of being a magi

I hope we can finish this soon, I have better things to do than watch acolytes trade words over a counsle table.

Day One

The cold buffet and contents of the bar are quickly polished off by the thirteen Magi - who then brush off the crumbs and shiftily eye one anothers' identically-cowled Council Robes.

The gentle muzak which had been piped into the Tower of Sorcery Conference Centre Cocktail Lounge is suddenly interrupted by the amplified sound of two sharp notes on a xylophone, and the voice of the chief administrator crackles over the tannoy:

"Esteemed Magi! May I present to you the incumbent MAGUS SUPREMO! .....Boudica the N00bz0R!

The double doors swing open and - flanked by a gaggle of minions bearing the various Artifacts of Office (The Parchment of Word, The Mystical Spreadsheet and the most ineffective but widely lauded wand ever to be constructed: The Power Point) - Boudica enters the room. She walks slowly, her gnarled hands both clutch her staff for support, and coughs phlegm-ily a few times before addressing the Magi.

"Sorry I'm late folks... ahchhemmm - It is with great pleasure that I call this Council into Session. These past ten years have been frankly a pai... WAIT! I SENSE....."

SHAZZZAMMMMM!

The conference centre is thrown in to a blackness tinged with an electric surge of raw magic. Flashes of strobing purple light add suitably malevolent silhouettes, as those present bang into each other and attempt to cast protective circles about them.

From the Parchment of Word a cone of light is projected - within it's confines whirl the tortured figures of dark and fearsome Magi, numbering in their thousands. With one voice they speak:

"FOOLS! Our time of incarceration is at an end! We shall crush you and all your kind before taking back what is rightfully ours!"

The figure of Boudica is suddenly glimpsed, grasping the hallowed Mystical Spreadsheet from its ceremonial cushion as minions of the Tower of Sorcery are flung into the air and enveloped in searing purple flame. Boudica appears to wrestle with the magical item and unseen powers battle for ascendency until suddenly the darkness is lifted.

Boudica lies prone; the Mystical Spreadsheet under her. The bodies of dead and dying minions lie all about the Conference Centre, smoke rising from their charred husks. Belatedly the sprinkler system kicks in and soaks the thirteen Magi, before Boudica feebly raises a hand and with a click of her liver-spotted fingers shuts it off.

Clutching her staff, the MAGUS SUPREMO rises shakily to her feet. The doors burst open and the chief administrator rushes in "Oh Gods what has happened!" he cries and runs to where the Artifacts of Office have been scattered. With a lightening flash Boudica send forth a beam of energy which pins the administrator to the wall.

"What have you done?!" she shrieks

"Mistress! No!" the administrator clasps at his throat

"I have always suspected you! I have always known the Magi Mafiosi were not all accounted for! Now you shall pay!"

"Mistress I beg you..I...I"

But the strangled pleading of the chief administrator is cut off as his body is flung into the air and then hurled to the floor where the Parchment of Word lies. For an instant, the cone of whirling evil Magi is visible - before the chief administrators body appears to be cast into it...

"MWAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA!" the malificent voices cry as one! "Feed us more of these! - He is not our Kind!"

The thirteen Magi attempt to cover their ears as the chief administrator is ripped to shreds by the swirling forms, his screams fading to nothing as the cone of light shrinks and then disappears.

Boudica turns to face the astonished assembled.

"Oh bugger" she says "I always had my suspicions about that obsequious little runt, but it appears he was innocent after all"

She raises her finger and waves it slowly at the thirteen Magi.

"One of you! One of YOU! ....kaff! ... must be the Magus Mafioso for whom we have searched for these last hundred years.... Which of you is it?!"

All remain silent.

"Well - So be it! My strength allows me only to perform such vigorous action once a day without the fabric of time and space being shredded and the Magi Mafiosi freed! So - as I cannot simply exile you all right now - we shall convene here once again tomorrow and - instead of voting for whom we wish to assume the role of Magus Supremo - we shall decide between us who's turn it is to be cast into the VOID!"

Several of the Magi start forward - protesting at the clear insanity of such a project... but with another wave of her bony claw, and a terrifying glare, The Magus Supremo silences them.

With that, Boudica shuffles from the conference centre and cocktail lounge and the thirteen Magi are left open-mouthed at what they have seen. Nervously they begin to leave for their rooms - briefly consulting the map of the Tower of Sorcery in the foyer and taking their assigned keys from the terrified minion sitting at the desk of reception.

Boudica Teh N00bz0R sipped strong, dark, treacly coffee from a small white china cup and idly rolled herself a long tapered cigarillo.

One by one, the thirteen Magi filed in to the Breakfast hall and helped themselves to individual servings of cereal and fruit juice before taking their seats.

"It seems that you have all survived the night" the old crone looked severely at them. "..but one of you is a traitor and our task now shall see whomsoever is chosen: - cast into exile of the VOID.

You may begin your voting and of course - pleading for your miserable lives".

Day 2 begins - It will end in 24 hours (roughly 9 AM GMT Tues.).

EDIT: Day 2 will end in 48 hours from the original post rather than 24 - as it is a bank holiday :) (roughly 9AM GMT Wednesday)

Interesting fellow mages it seems like our traitor did not kill last night. I wonder why that could be? Is it possible that he feel asleep or could he have being indisposed?

She was confident they would soon get to the bottom of this and gave a wry smile at the thought of capturing the last of the Magi Mafiosi.

I am no conjurer of cheap tricks like those pretend magi - the mafiosi. To accuse me of such is a grave insult, and if it were allowed I would have challenged anyone who dared even insinuate this to a battle of sorcery.
The brass of such an insolent would meet the might of a skilled Dragon killer and surely the next Magus Supremo. Be warned!!

Boudica grows weary of the bickering which has begun since the Magi became more vocal with one another. She sparks up a fat cheroot and claps for the Chief Administrator.

After a pause she remembers that she cast the chief administrator into the VOID - whereapon his was RENT ASSUNDER by the legion of imprisoned Magi Mafiosi, and appoints a particularly slovenly gnollish minion as the new Chief Administrator.

The new Chief Administrator holds the black board while simultaneously exploring his cavernous nostril with several joints of its spatula-like index finger, enabling Boudica to inscribe thusly:
