Desperately need help with Algebra II!!!

Ok, so after losing everything for an undefined amount of time due to a bad Algebra II test, I have decided to ask for help here.

I will not ask you guys to do my tests for me (I take online school at CDIS, google it), but if I have trouble, then I'll post some of the sample questions. I'm sure that having you guys explain it will be much better than the crappy(and sometimes non-existent) descriptions given. I know that this will be solely out of the good of your hearts (wow, I'm posting this on the internet?), but I truly need help here, and I failed Geometry and had to re-take it last year. Every other class I excel in for some reason, including Biology...

So thank you to anyone who is willing to help me. I wish I had something other than my gratitude to offer.

I'm sure there would be plenty of people (me included) who would be glad to answer any questions you have.

I think I did alright in Algebra.. Integration is where my mathematics life began to go down the hill.

Could you post some sample question so I know I'm on the right page?

Until grade 10. Grade 11 is when I got lost and never bothered to pick up...
So its been about 3 years since I last properly picked up a math book.

Quadratic formula is that thing! Formula which is quadratic!

Long time since I've done any maths other than Financial maths. Not that I'm unhappy about that though. :smash:

ah yes, but my keyboard has no print screen. laptop you see.

y = mx + c is the standard format for the thingy. M is the gradient and C is y-intercept.

Rest are in terms we don't use in Queensland, or need images etc

I'm pretty sure most (if not all) laptop keyboards have a print screen function. It may just be in blue, under a function key.

same thing with Chemistry. i got an F on the final exam, B+ on the final grade. the reason? i owe it all to CuteWolf, and how he helped will be a secret between me and him....

A lot of the questions are unanswerable because of missing images.

If you need more help just pm i will guide you through it.

Oh and try www.physicsforum.org i find that it can help a whole lot and their "mods" literally do nothing but help people solve problems.

If it helps.....I'm in Penn's Math 114 class which is Calculus II. Thats a bit of a misnomer really since its basically a little of differential equations and then multivariable/vector calculus. Weird thing is I already know the 240/241 stuff.....which is differential equations + linear algebra.....

Anyways, math is something that you just have to practice. Preferably if you can understand the concept quickly, you won't have to do much or any at all but I suppose that isn't the case for you and algebra 2 right now. I'd recommend you to just basically do all the problems in your textbook without looking at the answers beforehand.....most schools usually offer tutors too so it wouldn't hurt to contact them.

Its quite possible I'm wrong, but would the y not become negative when moving it over to the other side of the equation to put it in standard form?

A is in standard form (as per my post, y = mx + c), gives the correct gradient and y intercept, no?

NAY! It's y = mx + b, and b is the slope, and it's called slope-intercept form! Standard form is Ax + By + c = 0.

I have no idea what this slope intercept form is.

Maybe im thinking of one for a straight line. Most likely.

Maybe instead of just giving you answers you could tell us the ones you had trouble on, and whoever is able to solve it can give you a basic explanation of how...?

Probably learn more that way... (or the tutoring idea is probably better but more effort as well)

What type of stats? Regression? I got an HD in stats last semester. (I wish I was doing as well in my Law class :wall:)

Well, I can try to help you. I am an all-A student and I had A's in all my semesters and semester exams related to Maths, but I but I barely got an "A" in Algebra II. Currently, I am taking College Algebra, and the class will start in precisely one hour from this post time (I am typing this in the Uni library). So I suppose I can help, even though I consider myself an imbecile in maths, despite my perfect grade record (not to mention some dubious things I occasionally did to get A's - asking students which problems were on the test and such :sweatdrop:). Really, I have gotten A's in Geometry and Algebra II mainly because of my spectacular luck with teachers, times, students, and etc.

In any case, use this site. I use it to check all my work. Mathway is a godsend for any struggling Maths students. Get the paid membership if you can - it will aid you in the understanding of how to solve problems, step-by-step, as opposed to the free just-answer-the-problem function.

And like I said, feel free to PM me any questions - I will see if I can help out. I deeply emphasize with you, as I struggled to get A's in mathematics myself. Although I did have my mother to help me out, who was maths professor and then an accountant, so that may explain my relative success... Life is not fair in other words, and I wish I can help you.

Ugh. Stuff like conditioned probabilities (That's the easiest part), margin intervals, etc. I fail completely at math. Although I was awesome at Economics. But then again, my economics exam didn't involve much math.

Trust me, I have used the site for two years. I never, ever had problems with the stuff it said it could do.

In fact, just two days ago, I did a take home quiz for College Algebra class, and checked all the work entirely on MathWay (finding two mistakes of mine) and got a 100, or aced in other words. While half at the same time the class failed it, because it was so difficult (although it is very easy to solve it once you already have the answer).

Look, PI (hehe - pi - 3.14) just email me the problems at ss78@gmail.students.uwf.edu or simply PM me, and I will try and see if MathWay works for that problem.

Also, consider buying a TI-83 Plus calculator - I did half my work in my past Algebra II class on that brilliant calculator. The only trick is, you really have to know how to use it, and our Algebra II teacher did just that. She would teach us the lesson normally, and then, when we were done with the topic, and took a test on it, she showed us how to sue the calculator to solve the problems, for future benefit. But I was always ahead and I learned how to use the calculator myself, which was permitted, to take all the tests :evilgrin:.

Join the site and go to precalculus math help. People there will guide you through the problem. And it is free, plus you can slowly advance. i still use it for my college level physics and my calculus. It is the same layout as the .org as well which is comforting to me

ok heres one i need help with:

Jeff can paddle his canoe 30 miles from home downstream in 2 hours. On his trip back home, he paddles upstream and it takes 6 hours. What is the rate of the current?

A. 5 mi/h
B. 10 mi/h
C. 15 mi/h
D. 20 mi/h

It's basically a simultaneous equations problem. If the current speed is C and the speed Jeff can paddle is P, we have:

P+C=15mph (Downstream)

P-C=5mph (Upstream)

Subtract the 2nd equation from the first and solve for C.

Youtube (to be honest, it was youtube of a tv show, Chopper Read teaching about OH&S) helped me to pass Economics.

What, you do not believe me? US schools, even the somewhat elite one I go to, are easy enough to make all A's if one simply lifts their rump. And it is not like Australia or UK have better schools. UK actually exhibits lower test scores than US on the same exams. Now, Asian or certain European school systems, especially in Eastern Europe are tough, but that is entirely different. And if I did not make all A's, how would I be enrolled in a Uni when I just turned 16??

I wouldn't be too jealous.. I personally would find it a little awkard being 16 with 18 year olds and older only in my classes... theres advantages and disadvantages...

Not rally sure what they ask about in 16, but D gives 2 f(X) with different values, usually not good for functions at this math level.

13. I assume it means gradient when it says slope and seeing as it increases by $2 for every topping added the gradient is 2/1=2

14. No idea what the question means (American terminology must be different) but (15.6, 3) is a point on the graph as when the pizza has three toppings it's price is $15.60

15. You can work out the cost of a blank pizza by taking 3x$2 away from the cost of a three topping pizza, which gives you $9.60. This function will only work when the number of toppings is greater than or equal to 3 though as you can't tell how much a two or one topping pizza will cost.

And again I have no idea what 16. is asking...

14 should be B. The equation of the line for pizza price is y = 2x + 9.6

So if x = 3, y = 15.6, or (3,15.6). Hah, if you don't like this, wait till you get to trigonometry, logarithms, and sigma notation. Although I assume you've already done some trigonometry in the last couple grades?

16's really simple. It's beginners stuff. Just use the vertical line test to see if it's a function. Literally something you learn on the first day of Functions lessons, guys. :inquisitive:
