One month vacation for me and I'm playing ETW like crazy. Started an unmodded, fresh, 1.5 campaign with Prussia on normal/normal to see how I can create the German Empire and so far I'm enjoying it... :)
So, anyone still playing ardently despite NTW out and running?
I prefer the variety of ETW though.
I miss the scope of ETW but at the moment I am still working through NTW.
It is not to say that I won't pick it up again; I still have it installed, but there is a lot to like about NTW even without the extra theaters.
NTW's map is pretty much the MTW/RTW/MIITW one without N.Africa... So I think people are just spoiled with the size of ETW's map :-p. Its plenty enough though the faction count is a little low.
I'll probably will start playing again once patch 1.6 is out.
Not buying NTW -may do when it hits the bargain-bin - not too sure yet.Quote:

I think 1.6 will make a big difference if the AI is working right and they fix a few of the most glaring bugs.
As long as it seems to be taking they must be working on some heavy stuff. It has been announced for what, 2 months now or so?
Still, if you are waiting, NTW gives some very entertaining play. :laugh4:
*raises hand*. Can't afford Napoleon just now, and besides I'll let it be modded more thoroughly, for a year or so, before picking it up in the bargain bin. That's the soundest policy when it comes to CA games from Rome onwards, it seems.
Plus, I never really got the time to sink my teeth into Kingdoms at the time, so there's that to consider as well when I'm tired of Empire + DarthMod.

The above sounds good! I'm still playing Empire, currently doing well on my GB campaign. Though the AI does seem alittle weak at times, its still enjoyable. Might even give Napoleon a go when I have more money. I've been playing TW games for years and yes, I do like M2TW! Hopefully they continue to produce more games, though I would like them to me more 'sandboxie' and less like the mission based rigidity of Napoleon (at least in my opinion). Total war is fun, looking forward to continuing my multiple campaings on multiple titles!
I certainly stated some time ago that CA needs to scale back and consolidate for a period of time. As Tomisama just stated, I expect them to do far more defined periods which have more detail to them and allow them to focus on stability, look and game play. N:TW has got me hooked and the game looks amazing. I certainly don't mind the narrower scope as it's been executed very very well.
So to answer the question, no I have not been playing E:TW because N:TW is taking up all my time.
I just reinstalled after hearing v1.6 being out. I hadn't played in a while so thought I'd see what changes there are. No plans to try NTW at this time.
I'm still playing, or more accurately playing again. The game's a lot better since 1.5 (and now 1.6) came out.
I just started playing again. let's see how it goes.
I'm afraid I haven't played Empire in months. I've wanted so badly to like it; but in the end, I just got fed up.
I got tired of the crashes, the imbalances, and -- most/worst of all -- the craptastic AI, especially on the strategic level. And while the various patches/updates have fixed the majority of the first two problems, CA/Sega has done almost nothing about the last one: I got sick of DOW's from factions that should've had little or no reason to want to attack me, DOW's from factions that didn't have an even-remotely realistic chance of beating me, factions refusing to accept peace terms no matter how badly they were losing to me, and factions that offered ridiculously lopsided deals (in their favor) that no ruler in their right mind would ever accept.
The "Black Knight" AI has been a problem with this game from the beginning, and I've seen no signs that it's improved in any significant or meaningful way. I keep desperately hoping against all odds that CA does at least one more update to fix (or at least significantly improve) it, but it's hard for me to be at all optimistic at this point. Unless & until the campaign AI is addressed (especially with respect to diplomacy), ETW will remain forever uninstalled on my computer.

If you have not played NTW you can not judge it.
It is a different beast than ETW.
I have not been able to drag my self back even after the patch. I have no idea what got changed.
But I will tell you that NTW is more than worth the money, especially now that the price is so reduced. It is a different experience totally and entirely from what you got in ETW.
It is a shame that everyone is so gun-shy now, because it is an excellent game.

Napoleon's multiplayer experience looks like the best iteration out of the newer Total War games.
Have not played for the best part of nine months due to University, going to start a campaign now, not sure what state the game is in, last time I played AI could still not invade by sea.
I've seen the French land an army near one of my English cities in America. I've also heard stories of Maratha sending large armies all over the place via fleets. I do think it's possible. I don't know with what patch this was made so, but definately possible in 1.6.
It is possible in 1.6, Maratha declared war and took Leeward Islands from me.

Fired up a Prussia campaign on normal, steamrolling through Europe.
My computer had some work done. ETW was deleted. I have to reinstall, which I plan to do. Probably give the French a go when I do. Would love to invade England, in all my campaigns I have yet to do so. I have taken Paris on several occasions as a variety of different factions, but have yet to take London. Perhaps as France I will.
I hadn’t played since the last patch so I decided to give GB a go. (been mostly on NTW)
There are a lot of changes! At least to GB but a few in the way the game plays.
No one said much about it so far.
The starting forces are changed. They are for the most part weaker, particularly in England and Jamaica.
I noticed the CAI acting a lot different in diplomacy even more than any by the BAI. Trade seems to have been tweaked too.
Anyway ETW is still in the top 10 on Steam (#8) while NTW had dropped to 13.
I find that a bit curious because ETW seems almost primitive, compared to the game play in NTW.
I started a Prussian campaign a few days ago.
15 turns in with 8 or 9 regions but I’m hotly pressed by the Austrians, Poles and Russians.
Squares have been my salvation as I have seen a lot of enemy light cavalry.
After a long break, I fired up a GB campaign last night. The BAI does behave differently now. At times, it can even keep a line...
It seems, interceptions have been retweaked now too. I was intercepted by the AI and, on battle open, I found myself in column formation thrown directly into the combat with no time to arrange troops, almost like an ambush situation. I think, it makes it much more realistic.
Having just received the game yesterday, I must say I am totally impressed. Graphics stunning, gameplay (so far, started RTI and am at the French and Indian War) absolutely amazing. Think I'm gonna hold off getting NTW for awhile.
I would also be impressed if I just started to play ETW just now but with all the former versions of it under their belt most 'veterans' are a bit jaded. I'm still playing it though and I'm still enjoying it immensely.
Still playing ETW and enjoying it very much. Recently purchased NTW and am impressed with some of the upgrades and the improved AI. All around, great game, worth the money I spent on it. Many hours of enjoyment.
I'm still given 'er on Empire. I have all the TW titles presently installed so I play whichever game has the historical setting im in the mood for. I have just read 2 Napolean books, a duke of wellington book, a book about the british empire and now I'm reading one about English rakes. So I am pretty into the period right now. Empire is a great title, I admit it was a bit buggy at first, but I don't seem to have much of a problem these days except for the odd one, which is expected with every PC game.
I've started playing after a long time. i gave at patch 1.3 i think so quite a while. The campaign is going pretty well though i have noticed noone bothers to invade Britain and briatain ahs sent two stacks agfsint me now probably with a 10-20 turn gap between them. Totaly usless attempt. the second stack was nearly all cavalry and 2 units of infrantry so they got beat by jsut my town militia. the stupid thing is i got 3 full stack british navies in the indian ocean doing nothing. and each of these stacks has 2-3 trade ships in them. its pretty stupid for the AI to waste so much upkeep while doing nothing.
I am a true General! I play all my total war games ranging from RTW- ETW.

Actually, I've been caught off-guard far more in ETW (DMUC) than I ever was with in MTW. If I was beaten back in MTW it was because I was stretched to far, because I took too many risks. In ETW (DMUC), if I take 1 risk it could be 1 to many to protect my current resources.
I'm currently playing ETW a GC with Austria. It makes still fun.
I started a VH/M game as my own country the United Provinces. I am doing well enough, it is my first campaign on ETW and I am having quite a hard time.
I like this game A LOT, I've played it for the past week for hours. I love the game and the naval battles, despite all the criticism I heard. I play the Special Forces Edition and haven't patched up, are those patches save game compatible?
I am a RTW - Europa Barbarorum - BI - Alex - MTWII (and Kingdoms) veteran. I liked all those games (EB the most), I really like the bigger focus on diplomacy ETW has. I was becoming tired of the blitzes and countless battles.Quote:

Steam does automatic updates when ever you load the game. You always have the newest patches just by accessing Steam on-line.
Mods are the only thing you can add or have an out of date copy of.

I have a French campaign currently rolling. Britian took the 13 colonies. They then made a move from there on some of my local holdings and sent a stack after Paris that I defeated in a fort near the city. Currently, I have 1/2 of the 13 colonies (thanks Britian) and am rolling south. A few more military researches and I will raise an army to march on the UK. Much of holdings in the American theatre will soon be mine! Well, except for what my ally the Spanish hold...for now.
I succumbed to the N:TW features.
I started a Prussian game and tried to steamroll the German states, but Austria intervened and almost won the war for themselves. But, the French finally marched against the Austrians and are helping put pressure on them. If I can win a few more battles I should be in good shape to change the tide of the war. Silesia and Prague are hotly contested zones. Not to mention the Russians keep trying to take Poland...

The code is not the same.
I was playing Shogun2 so much that I was afraid I would burn out, so to break things up a bit I recently started an English campaign in Napoleon.
By alternating sessions between the 2 games, the play is staying fresh for each.
Now, if I could just port howitzers to Shogun2 and warrior monk archers to Napoleon, ----I'd have two really weird games!:laugh4:
P.S. I somehow thought I was in the Napoleon forum when I posted this. However, I have also started a French campaign in Empire just to add to the confusion
of trying to manage three TW campaigns in three different games at the same time. If I give up sleeping and bathing, I could probably fit in a Med II campaign too.
