April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Yeah guys, everybody wanted it, but nobody made a move, so here is the thread of the month!!! Welcome to all screenshot, demotivator, Motivator, may the niciest win the balloon of April!
Rules
-One submission per person per month
-Must be from EB
-No picture editting for this month's competition
-Only slight cropping will be allowed (small pictures are ok, just not extreme cropping)
-Please keep the dimensions to a size that fits in the forum screen (maximum of 1024ish)
-Must obey forum rules
Suggestions
-Turn off banners
-Turn off arrows and/or deselect your units
-Make sure the cursor, "Paused", and map border aren't showing
-Crop out the UI (though too much cropping may get your pic disqualified)
-No Elephants
Limit for subscription of your screenshot : 23 april
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Nice, dude, good job taking the initiative. I'll look around my shots and see what's sitting around.
Just a suggestion though, cropping is your friend. A pic can be great but still look kind of strange because the UI and the minimap are sitting there. I would suggest using Gimp to edit your shots.
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Welcome, it's my pleasure to open that thread, as it's always nice to see screenshots from others! and thanks for the advise, with GIMP, I didn't figured out how it's work yet, but eee, i posted only 4 pictures in my life on the forum (from wich the 3 above!) so, I still have to learn ;)
Looking foward to see your screenies!
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Yeah nice of you to take the initiative to start this thread, I thank thee.
Here's mine, with the brave son of Seleukeia alone charging the ranks of the Persian archers:
Since we can only post one picture per month I'll have save the other for next month... :furious3:
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
the pic with the soldier alone charging those archer is really nice! good job! The other as well!
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
I was looking forward for it. Thanks.
Well, I couldn't choose only one pic but I see everyone post whatever number they like. It's good. More impressions.
Sorry but the caption has only one and the first pic
Unequal duel
EDIT: if for some reason only one pic might take part in competition, then let it be the first "unequal duel" only.

What trouble did you have with Gimp?
Another minor suggestion, but if this is a competition, shouldn't everyone be limited to one screenshot? If everyone is posting 5 or 6 shots, pretty soon we're going to have to be choosing between 100+ pics.
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
I just use paint for mine, takes like a minute and a half.
Also, I agree, everyone should choose one of their pictures posted to enter.
I'll have to get some good pictures during my Iberian conquest.
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Yeah! I started the thread, but i never participated to any screenshot contest! if someone is used, please, share the rules with us! if we must pick only one pic, it's fine with me! but let's establish a number of rules! ideas?
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
@Duguntz
Here are the rules from last May's competition, perhaps they should go in your original post:
Rules
-One submission per person per month
-Must be from EB
-No picture editting for this month's competition
-Only slight cropping will be allowed (small pictures are ok, just not extreme cropping)
-Please keep the dimensions to a size that fits in the forum screen (maximum of 1024ish)
-Must obey forum rules
Suggestions
-Turn off banners
-Turn off arrows and/or deselect your units
-Make sure the cursor, "Paused", and map border aren't showing
-Crop out the UI (though too much cropping may get your pic disqualified)
-No Elephants
The reason for no elephants is because apparently a shot with elephants won three months in a row, so people were worried that everyone was going to just start taking pictures of elephants. They just had no elephants as a suggestion instead of a rule, but I think it could be either.
For cropping, I would say allow any cropping that is done to get rid of the UI, etc, but over-the-top cropping that focuses on only one or two men in a big picture is too much.
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Nice pics, guys! Especially I like the one showing brave sons of Carthage, sacred band infantry fighting some barbarian tribe. :2thumbsup:
Mine is called: Breaking the agema.

Big battle between the Sweboz (me) and either the Aedui or Arverni.

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
That's Aedui. Nice picture, too.
Anyway, I will resubmit an old one of mine, because I don't have any other and I think it deserves another shot. (Plus, I'd have to kick Celtic Punk's ass in self defence if I didn't. :laugh4:)

Celtic Viking's picture is kind of epic :O
Here's mine anyway: "morning rush-hour in gaul" (try to spot the italian tourists ;P)
EDIT: For some reason the image got all blurry when I uploaded it to Photobucket. It's supposed to look better. :/
EDIT2: Uploaded it to Imageshack instead. Much better quality now.

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
How do you remove the "paused" button? Or do you wait for just the right moment?
Also, I downloaded fraps and my UI changed... Now the map is in the top right corner and everytime I take a screenshot I have to crop out the top too. How do you guys take screens?

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Nice pictures! I prefer 'This is Seleukia' thus far, though I prefer to play with out grass in my campaigns!

1) You can't remove pause button.
2) Why use fraps for screenshots? Just press the "Print Screen" button and you can find your images in your Rtw/Tgas folder :)

If you have anti-aliasing enabled your screenshots will be all black when using "print screen", IIRC.

If you - in-battle - press F1, a window will appear which lets you choose keyboard style setup. Select "FPS style setup"; and then you can toggle the radar visibility with F5 and the unit cards with F6. Hope that will help :)

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
As I recall, old rules were:
No excessive cropping
One submission per member
No previous entries allowed
So if you have submitted more than one, please select the one which you wish to use in the contest. I presume that there is a deadline that all entries must be submitted by in preparation for the poll vote?
Anyway here's my submission, from way back when I had an AAR, lol.

Right click and press "view image" to see it in it's correct resolution

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Cool screenshot Subotan. :)
Does anyone know what the limit of poll options is?
Seems to be 30. :book:
Seems like this question was completely irrelevant.

Ok, here is mine, it may not be a work of art, like most of those, but the signification it carries with it are worth much more than plain beauty. We have the saying : An image is worth a thousand words, well, those words are worth a thousand images...

So true, so true. If you ever need soldiers to help you in you fight against the true enemy then just shoot an arrow with a message in my direction and a thousand horsemen shall rise from the endless plains.

Well, I've never actually submitted to one of these, but here are a few shots I've taken over the years... some might be too cropped, but I'll let you all be the judges.
*Edited to remove extra pics* I suppose I should re-read the rules before posting...

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Hey you lazy buggers, this is a thread in the tradition of the venerable EB-screenshot competitions, and no "Post all your Screenshots"-Thread. :furious3:
Rules
- One submission per person per month
(to be read in the first post of this thread)
Pick your favourite screenshot yourself, and post ONE! You can post another one in the next competition. Pff, today's youth! Show the old EB ways the respect due to them!
I have spoken :brood:
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Yeah, SwissBarbar, tell 'em!!! ARRRRRGH! Follow example! I posted 4... I ereased 'em all to respect the rules!

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
i have an idea.
Duguntz, you pick the best 10 pics, then make a poll. the winner will get a "winner banner" that i will make, composed of his pic.
the winner will be the one judging the next competition (he cant submit for that competition), and so forth.
and Teucer you need to choose one. people who post multiple screens are disqualified.
-

Sounds interesting, how large is this "winner banner" going to be if you make one? If I may make a suggestion maybe the size of an EB-Fan user bar?
So that it fits in ones sig.
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Very good idea indeed, when would be the limit for the screen presentation, and thus the start of the pool? we're still only at the beginning of april! what do you think about the 20 april?
All those with multiple screenshots, choose your favourite from those you posted and delete the others, otherwise you shall be disquilified.

Hi,
here is a particularly painful memory from my campaign against the gauls.... you guessed it, my guys are the ones on the ground...

Lol, you know it's quite hard to get 1 soldier per unit in the first place, and I took that screenshot ages ago. Glad you like it.
Cool pic Pobs! What faction did you play as?
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Nice one pobs! i know what it does... in my sweboz campain, about 20 minutes ago, I captured Segesta... I won. But what a price it costed me. an army of 2300 crack troops (of corse, no real heavy infantry as i'm sweboz, but still, neeto swordsmen, duguntiz, slagonez... all with 3 chevron and upgraded armor in blacksmith)... against a garrison of a pettiful 700 light troops. I lost about 16oo guys in that massacre. Lost my core army of italy, now i must make come another one all way south from my capital and around it to counter the repetitive attemp of the romans to recapture rome...

Ah, field casualties, that with decorate the battle. The best way afterward, when the field is surveyed, to truly see who got the upperhand during that frenzied event. Nice screenshot!

You can, its just a matter of fairness and the opinion of people who did not take part in the competition.

Yeah I know it's technically possible, I just wanted to ask this so people know of it, since it wasn't mentioned in the OP, and yes I too think it's not really Ok to vote for ones own screenshot. Maybe this should be added in the OP.

At least make the results public, so you can see who voted on what, then you can spot injustice.

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Why aren't you allowed to use cropping btw? It's not like it gives an unfair advantage to anyone. Anyone who can use Paint can crop. :P

Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Because it's meant to be a screenshot.

Not extreme cropping, you can crop out the map and your unit cards but not make the picture as small as, for example, your Casse and Koinon sig pictures.
~Fluvius
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Why aren't elephants allowed?
Edit: never mind, I now noticed it's under "suggestions". :shame:
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Once upon a time, in EB history, there was a period when almost only pictures with elephants won the competitions. So a rule was made, that you should not post pictures with them, because it became boring. Now in EB modern era it is no rule, but still a suggestion. An echo from the ancient times of EB ;-)

Cool thread, Duguntz.
Too bad I haven't been able to get screenshots from EB for the life of me.
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
madoushi,
just turn off anti-aliasing then 'printscreen' will drop a tga file into the tga folder in your game folder.
hooahguy,
who won ?... well, lets say I was on the side that made the winning side possible.....:laugh4:
Arthur,
I think I was playing the Getai on this particular occasion, but losing in those northern forests is not uncommon in my campaigns so it could be Rome or Lusotani :beam:
cheers,
Pobs
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Pobs, I don't use anti-aliasing, and I've tried Prnt Scrn, Ctrl+Prnt Scrn, Alt+PrntScrn, Shift+Prnt Scrn and every other combonation I could think of. Ctrl+Prnt Scrn works for most games, but I can't take screenshots for the life of me in Total War. :(
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Press Print scrn and then CTRL ALT Delete. And paste it into paint and save it.
-
Re: April SCREENSHOT COMPETITION
Tried that. Every time, it says there's nothing in the clipboard to paste.
