Undermountain has always sat beneath the City of Splendors. A Cavern system made in greed and lost to horrors untold, none in their right mind enter its maddening depths. And among the fools that do, none return unchanged. The darkness hides horrors untouched by time. And they all Hunger.
The mountain caverns have been the choice punishment of the Watch of Waterdeep for many decades. Those who displease the city soon find themselves exiled into Undermountains cold embrace. And more so even than the monsters, the mountain shows no pity…..
The creature let his mind expand, reaching out to the prisoner with his mental magic. The prisoner tried to stop him, but none are more adept at mental magic than the Mindflayers. His Tentacles wriggled deeper into the Lizardfolks head, and he intensified his assault. The prisoner broke easily enough, but still something Held the Mindflayer back. A Golden wall however stopped his mind from combing through the prisoners thoughts.
The Ilithid cursed and withdrew his tentacles. The prisoner fell heavily to the ground, his head bleeding and his mind almost broken once again.
Yhamask dispassionately closed the portal that made up the only way out of the prisoners cell, once again disappointed in his lack of progress. He walked down the long Corridor, hardly gazing through the translucent walls at the dozens of cells waiting just behind the psionically made crystal. His thoughts quickly sorted through the information he had learned this day, so that he was ready to present it to the rest of his enclave by the time he reached them. The Lizardfolk was still not broken, something which caused him a small amount of emotion. It was becoming obvious that the creature was not simply some simple shaman, He must have some kind of divine favor. A catch like that could be a great boon to Yhamask, but only if he could be broken. The Rest were far less valuable to him, but most could be easily turned into slaves…. Or, he thought, put to other important purposes. There was a large banging to the Ilithids right, and he turned to see the dwarf staring through his cell wall at him. The dwarf threw his hand up in a unpleasant gesture, and Presented his bare bottom to the Ilithid as his mouth formed every dwarven curse he had. That was more than a few.
Yhamask sighed and stared at the dwarf, his mind coming down like a ton of bricks on the dwarf. He expected a fight. What he got was a brick wall as the dwarf threw all of his rage and hate towards the invading tendril of thought. The Mindflayer recoiled, stunned. He shook his head and snarled a word of command. The wards in the room activated, seizing the dwarf’s muscles and causing him to collapse in agony.
The Mindflayer hissed and started walking once again. The evening meeting was going to have to deal with some key issues, that was no doubt. And…. of course, there was some important decisions that needed to be made, to ready for the upcoming grand experiment.
When the cell walls simply disappeared, there was a few moments of shock in the mind of every prisoner. Most simply stood there, expecting an Ilithid to march in at any moment. It was5 minutes before any managed to work up the nerve to actually leave their now broken cell and venture into the corridor. Garl thundered out of his cell with as much stealth as his Minotaur frame could muster (he was only heard for 50ft around him, rather than the normal 100). He stood in the corridor tentatively, not knowing if he was going to be punished at any moment. Other moved out as well.
This corridor had been home to 20 prisoners. Now they all slowly exited their rooms, all casting their eyes about waiting for their captors to return. All bore the marks of their time spent here, long and horrific scars, missing limbs, blank looks in those who had already lost their sanity. The Aura of fear was like a tangible fog in the room, each and every one of them terrified beyond what most would think possible.
And then someone started laughing. Dovcil McNeill threw back his head and started howling with laughter, rich and deep. “I told those squids they could never keep me! I told’em!” The dwarf started to slap his own arm muscles, flexing and laughing “Can’t never keep a dwarf trapped forever!”
Every other prisoner looked at the dwarf, utterly confused.
Roger Conrad scratched his head “Are you by any chance completely crazy?”
“A better question is laddie, are YOU!” The dwarf laughed even louder. Roger frowned and shook his head.
A kobold coughed loudly “not that this conversation isn’t great and all, but uhhh….. maybe we should leave before we all get torn to little pieces by the Ilithids. Koobboollld”
The prisoners all murmured in assent, and the large group started rushing down the corridor towards what they hoped was freedom.
They passed through several large rooms Before reaching a large hall, the edge of the Ilithids tunnel system. The Hall Was also guarded by 4 burly thralls, Humans each holding a long sword and shield.
The Unarmed prisoners stopped dead, unsure as to what they would do now. The thralls looked blankly at the escapee’s, but moved forward to stop them all the same. The swords came up, and the prisoners panicked. A few bolted back towards the cells, but a majority Hurled themselves at the thralls.
Garl Faced off with one the thralls by himself, Throwing one of his massive arms in the path of its blade, accepting the crippling hit to tear away the things shield and Then lift the small human bodily from the ground. His left arm cut to the bone, he hurled the Thrall into the wall before he could move his sword to attack once again. Picking up the shield he had torn from him he roared and charged.
The Thrall weighed 140 pounds. Garl was over 500. The thrall had no escape when the shield and Minotaur slammed him into the wall. The cracking sound could be heard through the entire hall.
Dovcil McNeill Cracked his knuckles and Charged his own Thrall, his shoulder dipping low to Tackle his enemy. The sword flew above the dwarfs ducking head, and both went sprawling onto the ground, the sword moving from his grasp. Dovcil Pummeled the Thrall with punches, his legs keeping the Thralls arms pinned. It took some time, but the thrall stopped struggling, his face a bloody mess.
Gringar the Goblin and Punikit the kobold both squared off with their own thrall, the two small creatures working together to bring the large thrall down by tripping up its legs. Gringar managed to grab a hold of one of the thralls blades, using the Human sized sword in both hands to Slit the Thralls throat.
The last thrall was brought down under the weight of the other prisoners, but not before killing 5 of the unarmed escapees. The guards dispatched, the prisoners bolted into the tunnels beyond the Ilithids compound, scattering into the dark.
Mistledown swayed slightly as she walked, the light she had summoned seeming small and insignificant in the oppressive dark of the thin tunnel. The Nymph looked around every few seconds for any openings in the tunnel, but she had no real destination. Undermountain was bigger than the city of waterdeep itself, with most of its exits placed haphazardly in its length. Mistledown tried not to look down at her arms while she walked, already knowing what she would see. But she looked anyway. In the flickering light her arms looked like a mass of rope where her skin had scarred. Her right wrist ended abruptly where her hand was missing. Her expression grew pained as she took that look to its logical extreme and ran her left hand over her face. The scars she felt were almost like hammer blows hitting her. She almost broke down in tears, but simply shivered and marched on.
The cavern had once been what appears to be a Goblin village. But in undermountain nothing lasts forever. The huts had been torn to pieces, and the only thing left alive was a group of Carrion crawlers
Which were being torn apart by Garl. The Minotaur had taken one of the beams from a hut, and proceeded to smash a carrion crawler to pieces. Hunkering down, he stuffed some of the creature into his mouth, growling in displeasure.
“Well, glad someone found something to eat.” Roger said sarcastically, entering the cavern alongside Dovcil.
The dwarf burst out laughing “Aye lad! This big one knows how to make it in these caverns!”
Garl stood, hefting his impromptu club “ What do you two want? This is my food now, back off.”
Roger grimaced “no need to worry about that. I would rather eat my own arm than that stuff.”
From another tunnel entrance Gringar and Punikit entered, the goblin holding onto a stolen human sword, and the Kobold struggling to carry a shield. The Goblin twitched spastically and looked at the rest of the prisoners “hehehehe…. Look who else is here Pun.” The Kobold nodded and tightened his grip on the shield.
Roger sighed as he saw everyone getting ready to fight “You are all idiots. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I seem to have noticed we have about 4 weapons between us, almost no armor, hardly anything else of value. Oh yeah, and we are in one of the most dangerous places in the entire material plane! The only way we are going to get out of this place Is if we work together.” Another grimace “even then figure our chance of success is pretty much zero.”
Slashnos and Mistledown moved from the tunnel. The lizardfolk nodded “The Human is right. We must work together. The other 6 prisoners all nodded and murmured their assent.
Roger rubbed his hands together “then lets get out of this death trap.”
Undermountain- Huge dungeon system underneath the City of Waterdeep. It was created by dwarves mining for mithral. But the huge veins went too deep, and over centuries Creatures slowly destroyed the dwarf clan, leaving the huge tunnel system inhabited by all manner of creature. It is a tunnel system larger than the city it rest below.
Mindflayers- also called Illithids, octopus headed humanoids, they are skilled in psionics (mental magic) and are extremely arrogant. They keep huge amounts of slaves broken to their mind, and also preform insane experiments on their prisoners. For teh lolz.
Kobold- More reptilian humanoids, they are small and normally weak, relying on trickery to prevail. (they also like to add the word Kobold to the end of their sentences. Nahhh, thats a lie.)
Psionics- Magic, but more like telepathy stuff, basically these guys are psychics.

I don't even have it.
However my friend has both 1 and 2 for his XBox. But for whatever reason his dad put it in some storage unit or something when they moved. You know, a very clearly portable console. I don't know either.
PC games = Awesomeness on a scale never seen before in RPGs anywhere in this or any universe.
Console games =
You do realise that Dragon Age was styled as the spiritual succesor of the PC Baldur's Gates? If you are enjoying DA you will enjoy BG, the graphics may be slightly dated but you aren't that shallow. Right?

Oh god no, I'll still play Age of Kings.
I really don't see the difference between console and PC games, other than controls, which go to PC. I meant really important things, like story or gameplay. Like how Anno 1404 is different (and childish) on the Wii.

There is a massive difference in the Balduer's gate PC and Console versions. They are practically very different games.
Balduer's gate on the console was a hack'n'slash, Balduer's gate on the PC was Open World.

The problem with BG2 and Icewind Dale was that it became too repetitive, after slaugthering hordes of monsters and putting a lot of time into the game it just keeps going that way. To me that becomes boring and repetitive, you´d never play that as a Pen and Paper campaign too boring. Anyway, how many players do we have?

Night 0:
The party marched through the tunnels carefully, always expecting some creature to leap out of the twists and turns. But for the most part Undermountain remained silent.
Garl marched at the groups point, his club scratching his large head “I don’t understand. Why the ilithids leave the cells with little guard. How come we escape so easy?”
Dovcil laughed loudly “isn’t it obvious you big lug. There is only one way those flayers let us go, and that’s only if they wanted us to escape. We have been playing into their hands ever since we left our cells.”
Roger looked at the dwarf “then why the hell didn’t you tell us that before we left our cells you idiot!”
Punikit shook his head “The dwarf knew it wouldn’t make any difference. Either we leave and hope we can outsmart the ilithids, or we stay and never even try.”
Dovcil smiled “the kobolds a smart one. Its right. This is our best chance.”
Slashnos Moved parallel to the dwarf “So it changes nothing. We still need to keep moving forward.”The entire Party tensed up As a sounds echoed down the hallway, The sound of Orc boots.
Gringar hefted his human sized sword “Company.”

Re: The Lost of Undermountain
End of Day 1:
The Battle was fiercer than anything Mistledown had ever seen. When they heard the Orcs approaching the prisoners had fallen back to a large chamber filled with stalagmites and a small stream. Hiding among the rocks and extinguishing all their lights they waited in silence for the Orc company to arrive. Roger had been furious, being the only one who could not see in the oppressive darkness.
It had taken only a few minutes for the orcs to file in, arrayed in 2 lines 6. Mistledown grimaced, they were hoping for a far smaller scouting party than 12. But they only had a few moments before one of the orcs noticed them, and so the entire grouped launched its attack on the surprised orcs. Dovcil Lept from his hiding place, the human sword in his hand Smashing one orc in the face and sending it dead to the cavern floor. Garl Hefted his club and Smashed another orc flat. Gringar and Punikit worked together once again, One holding a shield and darting forward while the other hefted the sword and struck. Slashnos Howled a war chant and Slashed another orc to ribbons. Mistledown however, held back and raised a hand, a orb of white light illuminating the area around her, and giving light to see by. He whooped in triumph and moved forward beside the Nymph.
In the first 5 seconds of combat 4 orcs were slain. But even then the rest of the group shook off its surprise and started fighting back. The prisoners were soon each met with their own combatants, and the better equipped orcs started getting the upper hand.
2 orcs broke off from the main fighting to confront Mistledown and Roger, and the rogue cursed and raised his sword to parry the orcs slashes. Mistledown started singing, her voices unbroken and strikingly beautiful as she weaved a spell. Then all at once she started laughing, the sound radiating like a physical force and hitting the orcs. They both stuttered and held back, moving onto their guard, affected by the spell. Roger nodded and moved forward, his sword trying several strikes on the orcs, testing their guard. Mistledown hardly notices, launching herself into another spell and taking a wuick look at the rest of the battle.
Garl had quickly dispatched his own orc, but had taken another nasty hit on his arm. Dovcil had also slaughtered his own orc, and both were aiding Punikit and Gringar against their pair of orcs. Slashnos was working circles around his orc and slowly bleeding him out.
Roger yelped in pain and Mistledown brought her attention back to her own battle. The orcs had obviously overcome her spell and were pressing forward, roger hardly holding on against the orcs sword strikes. Mistledown ended her spell, and a arrow flew from her outstretched hand to slam into one of the orcs. It growled in agony as the small arrow pumped acid into its stomach and fell to the ground. Roger smiled in glee and pressed forward once again, moving forward and forward and slamming the orcs sword down. Mistledown nodded and smiled taking another look around. The battle was all but over, the last few orcs running from the victorious party. Mistledown allowed herself to relax, They had won their first fight together with nothing to serious.
That is when the orc she had wounded with her arrow managed to crawl all the way over to the nymph, his arm pulling her down and his sword stabbing into her chest. Her eyes bulged as she starred at the orc and sword. She slowly slid to the ground, cursing herself for her stupidity with her dying breath.
Mistledown the Nymph (johnhughthom) Has been lynched. She was a Doctor

End of Night 1:
Night in the tunnels is whatever time everyone is tired at, and the part stopped in a large tunnel filled with small alcoves and niches. Each finding a place to stay they took turns watching the tunnel for any enemies.
Roger spent the night huddled in utter darkness, his only light dead farther back in the cavern system.
The air of the tunnel was filled with haunting screams and strange noises, but the watch was uninterrupted. When they awoke and set off once again they found everyone alive, if not well.

1) No night kills - Impossible b/c of doctor
2) Limited night kills - certainly possible
3) 1 kill / Night - Beskar Guilty; is this even possible with 7 people?
Thats all I have - but I thought it was worth a roleclaim.

Re: The Lost of Undermountain
Together with the failed unvote that is the most solid lead. Let´s see how Beskar responds...
But nevermind, there goes another strong pro-town role. Also, as I said, the failed unvote was an accident, but it is pointless even to say that.

Re: The Lost of Undermountain
Anyway, you killed Johnhughthom, while I tried to change vote, Khazaar, so you willfully killed him?
Vote: Khazaar
As you are never usually active. Unless some one revealed they actually stopped the real mafia.

Re: The Lost of Undermountain
IMO Beskar genuinely forgot to unvote, there is no motivation for him not doing so as even if he was the mafia, 1st round is unclear and uncertain.
I think the only reason you guys are citing that as a reason is because jht was a doctor
Vote: Khazaar
Since I don't think that Beskar is guilty based on that, I'll go with Khazaar.
On Pinman's reveal, I think that considering that CDf said that he would change his game styles, I'm not putting away the possibility that there might not even be a killer.
Actually I'll prefer no lynch, but assuming that we lynch today and there is a murderer amongst us, the odds are more favorable with 3 people in the final day phase (assuming standard set up, alas may not be so).
Also, another Pinman vs Beskar role reveal? *sigh* :clown:

The beginning write-up talks about a Mindflayer who can control the minds of others. The mafia is a conversion role?

Re: The Lost of Undermountain
I just don't see any obvious physical threat to us. The only baddy so to speak in the original write up was as you said, the mind flayer. Referring to the original write up once again, the Mind flayer doesn't seem to be the down to earth get up close and kill them kind of baddy, so I'm just not ruling that case out.

No idea, just pure speculation. I would be inclined to vote no lynch now but I'm being cautious because if there was a mafia/killer, if we lynch now the odds are more favorable later.

There has to be a killer, because there is a doctor.

Re: The Lost of Undermountain
Because vote changing = scummy?
My original reasons become false as Johnhughthom did get scumtelled in another game which was mentioned, and he ended up dead in it. Hence I attempted to change my vote to an inactive (Centurion1).
Being honest, I thought the vote did change, but due to an slip-up, it didn't count. There was no "scum" at all in the action, and even then, a mafia wouldn't have known what his role was anyway, and if they didn't, they wouldn't have tried to unvote.
But nevertheless, I am not surprised to be either roleblocked or investigated on round one or two, as it always happens while others don't even get touched at all.
But now the mafia is laughing their behind off at this situation.

Re: The Lost of Undermountain
I clearly stated that I thought it necessary to lynch someone on d1. I´m sorry that it was a doctor but there was no falsehood in my statement or intentions. Beskar on the other hand is an experienced player who knows that you have to unvote.
Beskars vote for me is clearly an OMGUS vote with the great argument "Vote Khazaar As you are never usually active." looks like desperation to me...
@DIY: We´re playing mafia after all, there are usually killers in it. And to me the best clue is Pinmans roleblock. Unless that is some sort of metagaming I can´t see how you can ignore the best clue that we have at the moment.

Yet that doesn't count when you thought you did unvote. I only knew that I didn't when CDF posted the tally, which I then attempted to correct.

After playing TF2 at 11am, I went to sleep for 5 hours and didn't see the thread had new posts until now.
I'm trying to get back on a normal schedule so I can do the driving part of driver's ed for the next 3 days without falling asleep. Don't expect me on the entire night until Wednesday.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
This is like the Methos-Pizza situation at the start of the year all over again... remember Swords and D20s 3? And there was another game before that where Methos first-nighted Pizza, I think. :laugh4:
To an observer (who's enjoying the writing btw, Drizzty), it's pretty clear that you were first-nighted because of the altercation between you and your accuser in Lylat Wars; it seems to be a typical case of masculine one-upmanship, a case of "he was a massive threat to me in a previous game, remove him in the first round!"
Metagaming is a poor way to win or lose a game, but look at it this way; it means people see you as a massive threat that needs to be dealt with (whether you're vanilla, pro-town, neutral or otherwise) which means you're bloody good at mafia, no?
*goes back to observing*
