The Trouble in Waiting [Concluded]
<style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --> </style> The pain had faded, replaced by a numb sensation over my whole body. I was flat on my back. Some strangers were pushing the cart I was on at a rapid pace. There was some shouting, some screams. My eyelids felt heavy, like I was ready for a nap. I felt the cart pull to a stop. There room I was in was so bright. The tiles of the ceiling were pearly white. My eyelids finally became too much of a burden to keep open.
Then, I felt a new, gentle warmth encompass my body. Like the world's softest blanket, caressing me, rocking me with a gentle sway. The darkness was lifted, replaced by a pale blue light. The pressure of the world lifted, and I felt like I was floating. And with a rush, I fell, down, down. And, with a moment's notice, I was sitting. Everything had changed. I was sitting on a pristine marble bench, though I still felt so airy. I looked up, and the ceiling, looking tall enough to encompass a five story building, was made of the same pristine marble. Everything was... the wall just to my left, the wall which looked several hundred feet behind me. When I peered to the right, I couldn't see a wall, just an endless expanse of the marble floor and a few dozen people sitting on benches identical to the one I was on. I caught sight of my hand in my peripheral vision and immediately noticed something was off. It looked as though it did when I was much younger, in my twenties. I felt my face- it was similarly smooth. Working up to the top of my head, I ran my hand through hair I hadn't had in decades.
“John?”
A young woman's voice called out. Instinctively, I felt like she was calling for me, even with such a common name. I turned back to what was in front of me. A polished, wooden desk had appeared in front of me. A young, oriental lady, wearing a pale, pink suit. She seemed fairly normal, except that her eye color glowed a harsh, vibrant violet.
“Er, yes. That's me.” She smiled.
“I know. Welcome.” An old, leather bound book materialized before her on the desk. It flipped itself open to what looked about halfway through. “Alright, John, it looks like, based on how you lived, like you're getting off pretty easy!” Her excessively cheery demeanor was a bit off putting, but then my brain wracked forward like it had been stopped dead while in a sprint. It dawned on my just where I was. “According to our records, it looks like you're only here for two years, four months, two weeks, six days, fifteen hours, twelve minutes, and thirty five seconds.
“Um... so what do I do now?”
“Oh, no worries, you'll be transported to your residence facility just abou-” POP. Instantly, I was in new room, much smaller than the previous. It was made of the same, shining marble, but looked to be only about a hundred feet in each direction. There were maybe twenty or so people loitering around, staying near the walls, oddly distant from each other. Rectangular frames indicated there were hallways leading elsewhere.
“Welcome, John!” Still recovering just a bit from the disorienting transportation, I located the voice from behind me. At an identical desk sat a young blonde woman with shoulder length hair, wearing the same pink suit as the previous lady. “This is your residence facility. My name is Jannette. Ordinarily, I would wish you a pleasant stay and be off by now. Unfortunately, you arrived here just at a poor time.”
“What's wrong?” I asked.
“Well,” she started, with the same incredibly cheery attitude as the previous lady. “It seems that someone in here is up to very unfortunate shenanigans. I was ordered by the Boss to stay on hand to help keep order. Just a bit ago, we discovered one of the residents was missing. Of course, its impossible to leave, so this means that someone made them not exist anymore.” My jaw dropped, partially at the circumstance I'd been thrown into, and partially at the chirpy manner in which I was informed. “We brought you in, John, because we know that you can't have done it. You see, the standard operating procedure is to let the residents figure this out, since, after all, they're quarantined in here anyways. You're to be the organizer of the residents, to help ensure nothing gets out of hand. Every day, you'll help the residents organize themselves, and you'll turn over whoever's been found to have been guilty.” That smile on her face was starting to weird me out even more. How could she be so cheery about this? “Well, John, I'd advise you to help them get started as soon as possible! We haven't got all the time in the world, now do we...?"
Welcome to my newest small mafia game! This will be a purely vanilla setup- the town will have to work with in thread behavior to catch the two mafioso. The townspeople are the residents of the facility, and the two mafioso will be agents aimed at their demise, hidden in their midst. There will be no detectives, or doctors, or anything like that. That means thread activity will be important- please participate if you sign up!
I'm looking for up to the maximum of 17 players.
Rules:
No quoting PM's, no quoting chatlogs, no screenshots, no alternate accounts, no translating pm's none of that.
I do not allow Vote: No Lynch as an option. Period. You may abstain, however.
If you wish to take back a vote, you CANNOT do it by editing a previous post. I will not count it. Period. You must unvote:playerX in order to recant the previous vote. In order to vote for someone, you must do so in the usual Vote: khaan style. However, thanks to my super moderator powers, I can tell what an original vote is, so feel free to edit a post after the fact if you just missed something and don't want to double post. Just be sensible about it. Votes must be bolded, for reference.
Suicides will only be allowed in the event of a person being very much unable to participate in the game. I do not allow suicides for any other reason.
No links to anything outside of this thread. Period. I don't care if it pertains to something completely irrelevant.
It would be very helpful for the sake of my sanity if player's kept a tally running.
Voting periods will be 24 hours, though I may occasionally extend it to 36 if necessary.
Any ties in voting will await someone to break it. First vote to either person who is tied will result in lynch, regardless of any posts after it.
WoK(Wrath of Khaan) will occur if a person does not vote 3 rounds in a row, or if they do not vote in 4 rounds in total. Please, please don't make me WoK you.

I suppose if you knew anyone else from cfc or twc, then I could use a bit of assistance on that front.

Khaan, if you need more people feel free to put me down as a full-time player.

Re: The Trouble in Waiting
Where is everyone? I know we have like between 40-60 regular players around here. Slow season?
Even with the influx of CFC'ers I am having difficulty finding people. Too many people are on the do not invite list.
-
Re: The Trouble in Waiting
Being honest, I am not too interested in vanilla game, and I am pretty busy RL, and with my own game hosting soon. However, 'khaan is a good host and writes good write-ups and his game should continue.

Re: The Trouble in Waiting
"So, what am I supposed to do exactly?" I asked the lady. "I mean, can't we just wait here in the main room? Surely whoever's responsible wouldn't attack while we're all here."
"Oh, dear John, how silly. Amanda must not have told you. John, here we must all still rest; its not quite like down on earth, but spirits don't have unlimited energy." She nodded to the open frames in the walls. "Those lead to everyone's quarters for when they want some privacy. Its also where they can enter transience. Transience is akin to sleep, except spirits don't have a choice in the matter. After a certain length of time, a spirit goes into transience involuntarily, if not done voluntarily before then."
"So, how long do we have before everyone goes into transience?" I asked her.
"Approximately thirty six hours. Until then, its up to you to help these good folk figure out who's being a troublemaker. Then you just hand the troublemaker over to me and we should be good!"
"Er.... right." I raised an eyebrow and turned to the people assembled in the middle of the room, to at least not have to face that abominably cheerful woman. "Well, you guys have ears, right! We need to figure out who made those people disappear. Anyone got any leads...?"
Day one has begun! You have 36 hours for this first lynch.

It's far too easy to gauge whether Romanic's innocent by looking at his mid-game posts. No investigation required - if he's bleating like a townie then he's vanilla. If he withdraws into himself, THEN set the dogs on him.

I think my reaction to other people voting for Diana has been the same in almost every game: dead silence. She is just another player in this game. It would be like accusing me of caring if someone voted for Split or Beskar because they are friends of mine... that has no real bearing on the game.
But back to the game itself: Both you and Pinman seemed quite disconcerted when I placed a second vote on him. I'm very interested by this. Then you removed your vote. I see you gave an excuse for voting for someone besides Pinman, in that he hadn't posted yet but then he did. If that is your basis for the vote, I find it interesting that you're voting for me. Kinda panicky and all over the map for a first round, if I were to characterize it. While it is a long shot you and Pinman flinched over one additional vote this early in the game, it is also not impossible. It also fits in with the usual distancing strategy.
If you truly are innocent, then you will acknowledge that Pinman isn't your mafia partner. I'd like to see you place your vote where it was. Unless of course... that makes you uncomfortable somehow.
-
Re: The Trouble in Waiting
Panicky, panicky... that's all you have for me these days? You're accusing me of being panicky in Zhou, and now here?
I'm not panicky, I'm returning you the favor of putting you ahead of the tally, after you did the same to me. How do you like it?
Changing my vote from Diana to you doesn't change the pîcture. I'm still tied at 2 with someone, except that this someone is now you, and not Diana. So where's the panic?
Let's roll the dices, I'm not moving my vote back to Pinman just because you request it, and imply that he could be my partner. That would be plain stupid of me as it would leave me alone ahead of the tally, which is btw:
2 Romanic (civplayah, ATPG)
2 ATPG (Secura, Romanic)
1 landlubber (Beskar)
1 Captain Blackadder (God Emperor)
1 Skooma Addict (Blackadder)

Mafia response: Fine by me, *crosses fingers*
Townie response: I'd be fine with you and me being lynch number 1 and 2. Either order is fine by me. <-----I pick this one.

Right, except that my answer is more like: I can't remove my vote without being the only one ahead of the tally. You're quoting the part that makes you look good.
100% losing a townie (me)
50% losing a townie (me) or 50% losing an unclear faction member (you) <-----I pick this one.

Re: The Trouble in Waiting
Are you honestly so afraid of having 2 little votes on you? You weren't so squeamish about that in other games. What's the dealio?
So, are we doing this thing or not? I can fling myself pointlessly toward a dumb lynch with the best of them. Better now than later, when the lynch actually has a reasonable chance of success.

Hahaha, so now you are convinced enough that I am mafia to throw your life away? Again, you're wrong buddy.
As if I had a choice, lynch you then lynch me, but we both know that everyone else is king on this decision, we can't decide what they will do.
Either way, your friend Pinman came to your rescue, so we won't have to test your readiness to lynch yourself. :smug2:

Sorry, what I was trying to say is that Romanic easily gives himself away if he's vanilla rather than mafia. Examples? Every game I've played with him where he's been town (you were in Beefdom, weren't you Pizza?) he's always taken the crystal-clear, honest townie strategy. I'd have liked to see whether this pans out during this game.
Either way, that'll teach me to go on the Org after having a few drinks, heh.

Accusation went to no less than half the entire group! This was hardly a consensus like I'd been hoping for, but when all was said, a man who I'd guess had been Italian, by the name of Romanic, had been declared most suspicious. He was jostled to the front by everyone else. Not harshly, but in a determined sort of manner. Romanic, for his part, did not look panicked, but quite calm. In a way, I thought, he was a victor in all this, assuming he wasn't at fault. He would be safe, even if in a cage.
“Well hello, Romanic!” The lady chirped. A comically impressive frown overtook her face. “It looks like the folks here don't seem to like you all that much.” And just like that, the smile was back. “Well, no worries, everything will be just alright.” She reached into her jacket, and with the skill of an old west outlaw, whipped out an old colt revolver, took aim at Romanic's face, and blew a a giant, gaping hole in it. All in less than a second. My jaw dropped. An assortment of screams and gasps came from the crowd.
“WHAT WAS THAT?! I THOUGHT WE WERE IMPRISONING THEM!”
“Oh, silly John,” she answered in her sweet tone. “That was told to you so there wouldn't be immediate panic. You all are trapped in here, so there's actually no place to imprison anyone.” She took a look at the rest of the crowd and waved her right hand. “Aaaaaanywhos, have fun in transience everyone!” The crowd slowly backed away in a shuffle from her, and finally turned their backs once near the hallways. “Go on, John, otherwise you'll end up in transience out here and then you'd just be a sitting duck. And don't worry about this,” she motioned to Romanic. “I'll have it cleaned up in a jiffy. Have a good rest!”
Its now night phase, I'm giving 24 hours to get me orders!
