Game set-up:

3 Mafia
14 Town


RULES/Deviation from vanilla games:

• Each player begins the game with 100 credits.
• In order to vote, you must place a bet that a certain player is guilty and must be lynched. ("wager")
• You're allowed to wager between 1 credit and all your remaining credits.
• Whoever has the most total credits wagered against them at the end of the round is lynched. (Think of each credit as one "vote")
• If the person lynched is guilty, those credits are returned to the players who voted for that person.
• If the person you wager money on is innocent, you lose those credits.
• If your candidate you wagered on is not lynched, you lose those credits.
• No Lynch and Abstain are not allowed. (You must wager 1 credit per round, or you lose automatically)
• There are no mafia roles other than standard mafia.
• The mafia are collectively allowed to murder once per night. It costs them nothing to do so.
• There are no townie roles other than standard townie, except:
• Each townie is allowed to, at night, spend 30 credits defending themselves from murder, or 40 credits defending someone else from murder.
• This means defensive actions are possible, albeit extremely expensive.
• You are not allowed to transfer credits to anyone.
• You are allowed to add credits to your existing wager.
• You are allowed to remove credits from your existing wager.
• You're allowed to remove your wager altogether and place a new bet on someone else.
  
  oh, one more thing:
  
• If you are ever reduced to zero credits remaining, at any time, Askthepizzaguy bursts into the room and shoots you with his tommy gun.
  

Each vote must be placed carefully, and the amount of credits wagered must be thought about very carefully.
This makes for some unusual voting dynamics, and different scumtells than usual. People placing small wagers might be thought of as scummy. People who make sure their wagers come out on top might be thought of as scummy. Players who aim for that happy middle ground might be thought of as scummy.... who knows? Scumbags might try to spare themselves at the last minute by adding a lot to their wager. Townies might try to override that at the last minute, too. If this happens to be an innocent being lynched, with high wagers placed against that player, the town can be collectively devastated and unable to defeat the mafia. If the mafia starts off with 300 collective "votes" and the town starts off with 1400 collective "votes" then the town should be able to win, or they will be the ones who shot themselves in the foot. All that needs to happen is the right suspects need to die, and there needs to be enough being wagered to out-bet the mafia if they try to spare themselves.

Obviously the clock will be very important. :laugh4: And I will be merciless with the clock. The game will be very challenging, for both the town and the mafia.

• this is how you REMOVE ALL CREDITS from your wager. Think of it as an "unvote".
• You may place a new wager on anyone.

You may not place wagers on two candidates at once. You must fold your first wager to start a new wager.

• Game will not start until the first week of August, or whenever I have moderator approval. (August 4-7th?)

Day One



Michael wiped the sweat from his brow, as he walked across the hot, freshly paved parking lot to the pizzeria. He was looking forward to a beer and a slice of pepperoni. As soon as he entered the shop, the employees had his pizza ready, and plopped a cold beer onto the counter. The man took his meal to the back of the restaurant, past the "employees only" door, and sat down in the manager's office. Next to his desk was a rather large safe, hidden from view behind a bulletin board. Contained inside the safe was a quarter of a million dollars; precisely the amount the shop had made from pizza sales. Well, not exactly. There was approximately $1,250 in pizza sales, but there was also the house earnings from the high stakes gambling operation running out of the back room of the pizzeria. The cash would be emptied out today, as soon as Sal and Vinnie showed up.

It wasn't even 3:30 in the afternoon yet, and already the back of the restaurant was packed with businessmen, professional gamblers, corrupt government officials, and others with a desire to wager and live dangerously. They all knew the rules; if they won, they won big. If they didn't win, their best bet was to pack up and go home before the Michael found out they were flat broke. Many of these folks had already won and lost entire fortunes at these tables. Some of them were playing just so they could win enough money to pay off their creditors. Most of them owed money to Michael himself. Mikey was always loaning out generous amounts of money for very little interest. As long as that money got spent at his tables, he was a happy man. But he did demand that the principal be paid off, in full, plus the interest, within a given amount of time. And people usually paid. When someone didn't pay on time, Tony, Sal, and Vinnie made sure they understood the meaning of honoring one's agreements. And when that wasn't enough, Michael had his very dear friend Tommy take care of it.

Michael took a look at the guest list. Seventeen, this time. It seemed as though there were a lot of deadbeats gambling in his club today. He wondered if they would be able to win big money and be able to pay him off, or if he would have to introduce them to his very dear friend. He also noticed that among the seventeen guests, three of them were his own employees. Well, they knew the rules, too... If they didn't sucker these deadbeats out of every last dime they had, they would be fired. And Michael would make dead certain they never worked in this town, or any other, ever again.

ooh, that could have been a great mafia plan. Come out the gate with huge wagers so that no one wants to waste their credits competing, and then scale it back just enough to lynch an innocent.

Actually, since the high wagers will not be using it to pay for defence or defending some one else, makes it more of a case for being mafia.

Actually the mafia could be tempted to use small wagers to keep a low profile and a good reserve of credits for later rounds. After all they can kill at night, so why would they come out swinging on day 1?

Actually they can do one of the two, or both. Which brings us back to square one.

Not really, the Mafia are purposefully attempting to "look innocent", thus they will attempt to do the obvious non-action, such as massive bets. It would buy them enough "town cred" to last a while, while on the otherhand, the town would be spending nights having protection or not.

But if the Mafia uses most of their credits in these first days, then they'll lose any ability of saving themselves from lynches later on, by not having the points necessary to shift lynches around. Assuming the three Mafia can't each kill one (Making 3 kills per night until one of them is found), as that would be severely unbalanced for the Mafia in a small Mafia game, it would be a stupid mistake they'd make.

But then they'd might do that and trust us not to lynch them. So... Back at square one.

They would only have to do it for one round, then surf the rest of the game. Since trying to be deemed "less scummy" is worth more than the money.

Think of it this way. Who do you remember more - The person who bought the first round of pints, or the one who bought the 3rd or 4th?. It is the first round that makes it count.

Any townie with half a brain cell knows they will use hardly no money, since they will be spending it on other things anyway, only person who benefits are the mafia, as they don't have to spend 30 credits to do a night protection.

Or we could always wait till day two to start the WIFOMs.
