EBO June Team Tournament
Last year I had an abortive attempt at getting a team tournament up and running. Safe to say, it didn't work out so well. I'm going to give this another shot since we have had some requests for fitting 2v2's and 3v3's into a tournament context.
Rules would be thus:
1. Players are limited to 1 faction choice through the entire month, just as in the 1v1 tourney. However you can pick a different faction from your 1v1 tournament if you'd wish.
2. The match would have to be accepted as a tournament match by all players as to be fair.
3. Signups would be on the forum but walk-ins throughout the month will be accepted.
4. Players are not limited to teammates, rather anyone can team with anyone. Players will be required to police this themselves so as to prevent abuses but I think the community as a whole is honest and not too concerned with titles.
5. Points will be awarded like this: Each victorious team a player is a part of earns +1 points for him individually. Each losing team he is a part of earns -1 points.
6. The winners will be based on point total, or theoretically, we can have a final match up in the last week between the 1st through 4th best players for the month. Logistically this may be tricky however so I'm still not sold on that.
7. Replays will be required from the winning side to prove their valor in battle!
Thanks and see you on Hamachi!

So we will have fluid teams? Hm...

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
Don't worry, Kival: there is one whom you can always put your faith in... ~;)

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
Well if you'd prefer fixed teams that is fine. I'm ok with doing the initial tournament either way. From my personal perspective I just feel as if due to player availability during certain hours, the same matchups will be constantly happening. Also, this does not allow for 3v3's or the rare 4v4 from factoring into a tournament context. But let me know people! This is a democracy and everyone has a say.
-
Re: EBO June Team Tournament
With fluid teams I can't see why 3v3s and 4v4s should be excluded :)

Yeah I was a little unclear. I meant that with set teams you couldn't use 3v3's or 4v4's. With open teams, all levels of team battles become a possibility.

Frustrated due to the poor attendance at his party, the Hai Arkah Robin hired some thraco-germanic tribes across the Pontos Euxinos to raid hellenic colonies...
Dismayed the Koinon Hellenon decided to send two of their best Strategoi: Kival and The Celtic Viking...
The two forces clashed in Mikra Skythia and this is what transpired...
-
Re: EBO June Team Tournament
In the aftermath of that battle, however, disputes arose over the share of the spoils. Hai Arkah Robin and Basileus Arjos Suadurix even came to blows and a peace was quickly settled between the Arkah and one of the Greek strategoi, The Celtic Viking, who join arms against the Basileus. Dismayed by the turn of events, the Thraco-Germans find themselves in a pitch and call in their Sarmatian allies for help, and being popular in Carthage from his time as a mercenary general in their army, Arjos was even able to convince the Carthaginians to send in a force of their own as well. This gave the Roman emperor Vega all the excuses he needed to enter in on the side of the Greek-Hai alliance.
Finally, when the omens seemed favourable, Basileus Arjos Suadurix and his allies attempted a sneak attack on the Romans before they could join the forces of the Arkah and the Greeks. Their movements had been noted however, and help was quickly sent on the way, but would they make it in time? Tune in here to see...
(I tried... :sweatdrop:)

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
New problems arising in Iberia forced the Romans to split their forces, and general Yavana sails away taking with him his army. Meanwhile the Arkah, having suffered a defeat and in need of reinforcements, once again showed evidence of his silver tongue as he convinced the Makedonians to take his side. Together they marched against the lone Roman general, who once again was joined by Strategos TCV. The intrepid Greek is intent on punishing the Arkah for turning on him, but whether the Arkah gets his just desert or if he prove his sword to be as sharp as his tongue, none shall know unless they see it here...

After few setbacks, Basileos Suadurix called up allies from the steppe...
By clever manouvering, the Sauro-Getai forces managed to surprise the Arkah Robin and the hellenic colonist rallied by the Strategos Kival...
There's a rumor that the Arkah himself was unhorsed by riders!
Here's what occurred...

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
Bollocks! The Arkah spends his time pleasuring his sizable harem, not gallivanting off to battle like some mere knight. He will return with new allies.

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
Basileus Suadurix informed us of events transpiring along the Pontos Euxinios, that a conspiracy had been hatched by clever clever Greeks to obstruct the Elektrine Keleuthos. These Greeks and their Scythian friends conspired to starve the Getic kingdom of wealth from trade. Privy to this conspiracy was the Arkah of Hayasdan, who wished to move northwards along the Euxine coast and seize Maeotis and perhaps the Bosporan kingdom itself. The Greeks did not entirely approve of such a venture, but in exchange for the support of the Arkah against the Getai, they agreed that such a move would be acceptable.
My king, a longtime ally of the Bastarnae (and, by extension, their friends the Getai) dispatched me with this news and a force of well armed and armored horsemen to the Bosporan kingdom, to raise an army in order to combat the Greek invasion. The king, fearful of the power of Hayastan, presented me with a large force of well-armed hoplites, as well as a sizeable force of archers and a few slingers; with these he sent several of his finest chiliarchs. These I brought with my horsemen to the plains of Skythia, north of Olbia (which, along with the city-states of Kallatis and Dinogetia, had authored the plan to obstruct the Istros), moving to meet the Basileus and his Bastarnae allies.
The Hai expeditionary force soon reached the shores of Olbia, from whence it intended to begin its venture into the Bosporan kingdom as soon as it helped subdue the Geto-Sarmatian alliance. They assembled north of the city, and a Hellenic force soon mustered to join them. Up the Danu Apara it marched, until it received word of a Getic presence in the plains to the north; there it marched until it caught sight of Suadurix and the Bastarnae. While moving to meet the Basileus, I encountered the Armeno-Hellenic host and halted my progress, sending a sub-commanders to discuss battle-plans with the Getic king. A plan to take advantage of our accidental separation, an apparent disadvantage, was made...

On other news, Basileos Suadurix settled his differences with the Hellenikoi. An alliance was secured and protection for all the colonists in Mikra Skythia.
This allarmed the Senatvs Popvlvsqve Romanvs: the two consuls for the year were dispatched to either break the alliance or put to the sword anyone, who dared oppose Roma.
But the Basileos was on the move, Strategos Kival rallied men and thanks to his personal connections, received Hoplitai Massaliotai to assist his cause.
Kival disembarked and regrouped at Dyrrachion, its port friendly to the Koinon Hellenon, marching northwards he was joined by Suadurix.
Consvl Yavana, always accompanied by his personal hispanic guard, raised troops from Gallia Cisalpina and started his march toward Dalmatia. At Salona, consvl Vega disembarked his old fashioned, levy army, which fielded elephants, but the long journey via sea, was too hard on the beasts and they were all sickly.
Without time to let the animals recover, the Geto-Hellenic army appeared in the countryside and started to pillage every village in the provincia. The Consvles rushed to meet them and this is what happened...

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
After having defeated the Roman foe, Basileos Suadurix and his Hellenic allies decided to turn their attention back to the Hai Arkah who after a string of defeats was desperate for new allies. Fortunately, he found them in the Epeirotes under the command of Strategos Capo who had been concerned with the growing power of the Getic king for some time. Marching over the Caucasus, he met the Epeirote force as it departed by ship west of the Chersonesos. The combined Getic-Hellenic force under Arjos and Kival departed from Olbia and upon the fields of Pripyet, this is what occurred...

Boy, these tournaments are really friendly to my point totals. :clown:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After his last battle against the Arkah, The Celtic Viking - or Strategos Rehnskiöld as he was affectionately known as amongst his men - had rested his soldiers and stayed quiet for a while. Athletic competitions had been held amongst his troops to keep them occupied, and he had no more scores to settle. His polis' interests were safe and, for a long time, life was good. However, all good things must at some point come to an end, and when he heard the news of the battle at the Pripyet fields, he became worried. If the Arkah and the Epeirotes were indeed victorious, and against a Greek army as well, there was every reason to fear that he might once again be forced to take up his sword once more, and this time it wouldn't be a fair fight as he had no allies of his own to call upon. These fears proved needless, however, as the Epeirotes were in no mood for any more fighting, and retired back to their ships to sail for home. Instead, Basileus Arjos Suadurix once again called on his Sauromatae allies and started a march against the Arkah Robin. The tables had turned, and Arkah Robin realized he had no chance of winning this fight and turned around and fled.
Meanwhile, Strategos Rehnskiöld now had a different threat to consider. The Basileus may have sworn an oath of alliance with another Greek and promised to defend the Greek colonists, but it was not sworn to him, and who can trust a barbarian anyway? With the Greek army scattered in defeat, who knew that he would care to hold to any promise he may have made? It would be foolish to allow a situation to arise whereupon he had nothing to rely upon other than a barbarian's honour. No, in Strategos Rehnskiöld's mind, it was in his own interest that the Hai-Getai feud would go on, for as long as possible, without either party gaining any significant advantage over the other. Most of all he did not wish to see either side completely destroyed, which he thought was undoubtedly the most probable outcome for the Arkah if no one intervened.
So it was that when Arkah Robin in his flight ran right into the Strategos Rehnskiöld's army and feared the worst, the Strategos met with him and once again made peace. With the Hai army already tired from all the forced marching, they had not much choice but to make their stand where they were. This is what happened...

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
After the defeat of the combined Getic-Sarmatian force, the Hai Arkah was feeling good about his campaign. He had successfully played various Greek city-states against his numerous foes and had found powerful allies such as the Epeirotes. However, he was still having trouble striking south from the steppe, where his cavalry reigned supreme, into the thick woods and mountainous terrain of the Carpathians. There, Basileos Suadurix had his stronghold and far too many men for the Arkah to dislodge. With Strategos Rehnskiold and Strategos Capo both indisposed with other issues, the Arkah was forced to look elsewhere.
A runner approached the King of Kings with news that soon had his heart aflutter. The Gauls, legendary warriors from the west, who often appeared as prized mercenaries in the armies of his foes and allies, were said to be on the move eastwards. They had heard of fighting to the east, and in true Gallic fashion, wanted a piece of the pie so to say. One of these tribes were the Aedui, brave warriors under the command of a man known to his men as Bren Ulysses. This noble Celtic chieftain forged an alliance with the Hai Arkah; the Celts would raid the Danube basin of the Getic lands while the Arkah invaded from the north. The plan worked to perfection and Basileos Suadurix was faced with war on both fronts. Ceding territory rapidly to the Gallic warriors, the Getic forces retreated east, only to be met by the fierce horsemen of the Hai. Luckily for Arjos, the Hai had not treated the Hellenic citizens living on the coast with much respect, plundering their temples and ravaging their finer women. So it came to be that Strategos Kival was called upon to defend Hellenic honor and he arrived to the defense of the hard-pressed Getai.
The Arkah, seeing how many foes were now before him, skirted the north of the Carpathians and met up with plundering Gauls there. With plenty on the line for both sides, the two large forces clashed and click here to see what happened...

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
Garh, that was the one where my main line bugged :(.
Okay... now my one... I hope you can bear it:
The getai under Basileus Arjos defeated and the veterans of Strategos Kival killed, Strategos Kival went back to his poleis, sending a letter to Strategos Rehnskiöld to warn him about the new danger. Planning to use his newly trained men who learned to fight in the way of the the makedonian phalanx he wanted to join troops with the experienced forces of Strategos Renskiöld who had called fo thracian and anatolian allies. Both had lost a lot of their cavalry in the last month and decided to focus their strength in the infantry contingents, especially to hold off that celtic barbarians. But nothing ever works as planned and before they could march north to face the Celto-Hay-Alliance two messages forced a change of plans. The Celtic and Hayasdan troops could not agree on how to handle the spoils of war and the alliance already started to dissolve while in the meantime former Consul Vega declared himself princeps, first of the Roman citizen. To strengthen his newly achieved dictatorship over the Roman populus, he allied himelf with the Sarmatians and marched towards the greek cities to show his strength. Both greek Strategoi now were forced to deal with the new danger and rapidly marched towards the roman forces in hope they could reach them before they meet Xshaya Gamegeek, Second of His Name, but the new troops were slow and so they were forced to fight the Romans and Sarmatians at the same time.
Imperator Vega brought his two most experienced legions: Legio III Gallica and Legio IX Hispanica Triuamphalis newly reformed into the first imperial Legio I Vega while the barbaric sarmatians under Xshaya Gamegeek brought slavic man-eaters and Bastarnae mercenaries. Under the command of a small contingent of sarmatian heavy horse archers they forced greek colonies to sent them some men who'd not run away at the first contact with the modernized Spartan armies of the Strategoi Renskiöld and Kival. In a righteous fury the greek armies attacked and here you can see how it ended...

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
After many hard defeats of the Roman army by various barbarians, Roman commander Vega decided to attack Gallic warriors with his best and the most powerful legion, which were under control of Gallic leader better known as Ulysses with help of Strategos Kival who lead brave Greeks. Unexpectedly Ulysses made an alliance with Hai Arkah Robin and his Armenian army.... Everything was ready for clash! See here what happened.... http://www.mediafire.com/?fbjmiukmkuraomo

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
After his defeat at the hands of his former ally Vega and the Greeks of Kival, the Hai Arkah Robin was forced to remove the remnants of his army from Getic lands, giving Basileos Arjos time to recover his strength. To his banner flocked both the Ktistai of the priesthood and the Tarabostes from surrounding estates. This was truly a powerful army at his beck and call. The Arkah, ever fearful of Getic power was forced to make a difficult decision. Under the cover of night, he stole into the Roman camp, disguised as a slave trader with a precious cargo in tow. The Roman camp guard whom he met with was bribed with several pieces of silver to take him to the tent of Imperator Vega. Once there, the Arkah threw back his cloak, revealing a shining golden crown! Vega grasped at his sword hilt but was soon swayed by what the Arkah had to say and the gift he had brought.
Robin made it clear that Armenia was much too far away to be a threat to Roman power and instead they should form an alliance against the Basileos Arjos. He also uncloaked his special gift to Vega: one of the most beautiful girls from his harem, born in the lands of the Sogdians. Vega, who was well known to possess a voracious sexual appetite, was quite pleased with this gift and hastily agreed to terms with the King of Kings. So it was that the Romans and the Hayasdan marched side by side back into the lands of the Getai.
Arjos, troubled by this development, quickly dispatched a runner to Strategos Rehskiold who had been busy helping his fellow Greek Kival restore his power along the Black Sea colonies. Rehnskiold had previously fought on the side of the Hai Arkah, but like any Greek was willing to sell his sword to the highest bidder and his reputation as a fine commander of men preceded himself. Raising some Scythian the Thracian mercenaries from along the Black Sea, Rehskiold met up with Arjos and the two faced the combined might of the Hai Arkah and the Romans. Here is what happened on that glorious field of battle.

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
And so it was that the Arkah Robin's thirst for power seemed unquencheable: his new agreement with Imperator Vega, aimed to split the east and west between them...
But Basileos Suadurix and Strategos TCV regrouped and called up the wealthiest soldiers in Getia and Hellas, even the Uolkai settled in the Balkans and the Leukanoi answered the call: with all the other ethnes in the world happy to live under the autocratic powers, these two generals were all that was left to preserve freedom.
The Arkah and the Imperator met in Byzantion to sign a treaty, but alarming news reached them about two mighty hosts taking position just outsite the polis. Confident of their now professional troops, Romani and Hai moved forward and the armies clashed, this is what happened...

Re: EBO June Team Tournament
And so it came to be after that last great battle that the Hai Arkah limped home. He had gained some territory through his warring, but not as much as he had hoped. Basileos Arjos was still in power, but his lands were depleted of men of fighting age, a grim reminder of several battles lost. Stormrage, Basileos of Makedonia had also lost some land in this war, though not as much as others. Yavana, a former Consul of the SPQR remained a loyal and trustworthy commander under Imperator Vega. He of the insatiable sexual appetite had won over the people of Rome and controlled the majority of the Senate. Gamegeek, the great steppe warrior had also along with Arjos felt the sting of battle. While he still ruled over his tribe, many of the great battles had taken place on his lands of Pripyet and the nearby fields and grassy areas had been destroyed, denying his horses valuable grazing ground. Capo, King of Epeiros had gained some land through his victory, something he cherished dearly. Lazy O and Ulysses, both the leaders of far off contestants retained their status quo for the most part. There had been some gain, but nothing which would change the course of their rule for the better or worse. Kival, Strategos of the Greeks on the coast had suffered a bit during this war; his coffers were a bit depleted from paying nearby tribes to come to his aid and some of the colonists had challenged his rule, albeit briefly.
The unquestioned victor however was Strategos Rehnskiold. He had sat on the sidelines for some time and his prudent interjections into the campaigning on both sides had paid off handsomely in the end. His coffers overflowed, his army camp was larger than ever, and only the most beautiful slave girls populated his tent. This was truly the sole victor of the battles which had raged for some time.
Final Report:
