Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Tonight I consumed the worst possible drink Ive ever had the misfortune of purchasing.
A smell of putrid death emanated from the bottle upon the first crack of the protective seal. A strong and pungent odor that my face had to wade through only to have my taste buds assaulted by bringers of death.
Gentlemen! Gentle ladies! I warn ye all, do not drink Lime-Cucumber Gatorade!
Has anyone else had a horrible experience with food and drink purchases you have made?

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
True story: living in Madrid with a host family. The food is terrible, terrible. Imma gonna starve.
Hatch a plan: Every day I will visit a tapas bar, eat something disgusting, so that the host family food won't seem to horrible.
I eat blood sausage, barnacle, sea urchin, weird gelatinous cow parts, the works. Finally I take the plunge and eat goat's head.
... and kinda liked it.
Never got used to host family's food. Discovered I had a "thing" for goat's head.
Worst food of all: Sea urchin. Like biting into rotten mercury.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Blood-sausage and goat-head is delicious. The worst I ever ate is probably sorstroming, it's fermented fishthat is illegal to bring on an airplane as the cans can explode.
http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2011/...-surstromming/
I must say I kinda liked it on a leaf of bread and some pickles, the smell when you open the can is overpowering though, you can't imagine actually eating that. I'll try anything, not something I'd eat every week, your house will still smell 2 days later, it even goes into your clothes it's vicious.
We are kinda guilty as well by the way, rotten herring is really popular here. But it doesn't smell like a zombie-horde
https://www.google.nl/#q=zoute+haring
Edit, got to add Polish blood-soup. It's exactly what it says, it's made of blood, from poultry. It's a realy nicetasting and hearty meal with some bread, but you are really eating blood.
I have also eaten the testicles of a bull in Spain. Squishy. But also not bad at all. You can buy them here as well at Turkish shops but I don't know how to prepare them, they also have goat-heads, that should be easy, just put it in the oven and eat it with that delcious Turkish yoghurt.

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Blood is fine in food, black pudding is nice and I'm not one for strange foods.
I once ate a mushroom in a curry thinking it was a bit of chicken. It made me boke, vile texture, I thought it was a slug.

Yeah black pudding is nice, I love it with some sour aples. The Frenchie who runs a store here just brought from from la France, real bloodsaucage is hard to get here, all you can get is a slice of something that has no taste at all I want the ones they eat in Belgium an France, boudin noir.
About the Polish Soup, it isn't a bit of blood, it's blood. With some cabbage. Not bad at all but kinda ffs

I once made a hot chocolate with baking cocoa. Never again.

You can make an omelette from spare blood; it is very eatable with the bark of a birch tree...

You need to add a sweetner. I grew up on the stuff and have many fond memories of hot cocoa.

yeah, I had the misfortune to try Marmite....why is it so popular in Britain? are their taste buds burned off?

Bellevue is terrible, a good Kriek made with a lambique and sour cherries is awesome though

I never liked boiled vegetables. My grandmother always used to serve them that way. I prefer to eat them raw. Much more nutritious.

Steam them. Good for fish as well.
Edit, oh extra tip, steam them with a good boullion, and a good pan

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Stouffer's frozen meatballs. I opened the bag and they are all covered in literal inches of ice. Cooked them as it said on the box and they were very tough and one of them even had a piece of cartilage in it. I can't even eat too many at a time because my stomach starts to hurt.
My apartment mate keeps telling me to just make my own meatballs, but I am not a hobby chef like him and I don't have the ******* time to be making my own meatballs.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Geez it takes two minutes. You can also buy them at the supermarket, all the hard work has already been done.

You mean you actually tried it, brave man. What you pull out the wall has been laying there for hours sometimes, especially in the tourist trap area's it's just begging for getting food-poisening

These are pretty good for a deepfried pizza, the best really. Just make sure you put the oven on 220 otherwise the bodem will be squishy. Especially the one with spinach is great.

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Marmite is great, almost as good as vegemite.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Aren't Marmite and Vegemite the same thing?
I used to love Febo burgers, even though I knew it was the equivalent of just picking a burger off the ground, there was just something about them. The fact that I was generally stoned off my tits when I had one probably didn't help.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
It's kinda funny, tourists seem to love Febo, most Dutch avoid it like the plague, most go for shoarma after a night out.Not that that is such a good idea if you care about hygiene you wouldn't believe what health-inspection found in most shoarma-stands, urine, poop, even sperm on occasion. But there isn't a stick big enough to slap (especially English) tourists out of a Febo.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
I wasn't a tourist, I lived there. The fact that I could walk to work through the 'dam at 6am, without the black prostitutes accosting me, or north African midgets trying to sell me "Coke, speed or E's" proves my non-tourist status.

heh sorry. They don't bother with me either. Tourists usually could as well paint a big T on their head.

When intoxicated, the idea of removing the awkward social interaction from buying fast food seemed great. The resulting experience was not. Luckily it was Den Haag so no tourist traps. Speaking of tourist traps though, entire areas of Amsterdam now make me nauseous. Whoever introduced 'American style' pizza to this once great nation has a lot to answer for.

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
My father is fond of this brands of frozen hamburger patties here called "Bubba Burgers". Aparently, they are made from a more fatty cut of the cow to make them more juicy and flavorful. Just pop them on the grill and eat. He made me one once and I found it quite unpalletable. I call them lard burgers now. I won't eat them again. The hamburger meat he gets from an old Italian man at his store up the block is so much better. I'll take those over lard burgers any day! :P

An olive when I was a kid and I thought it was a grape. Brussel sprouts is definitely one of the top must disliked.

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Whole baby octopus in a seaweed broth, eaten from a shotglass without utensils. Had to down the octopus in a single mouthful; tasted like Neptune's Taint.

I ate fried tarantula. Tasty.I wouldn't eat a living squid though I would feel too sorry for the poor thing. Food needs to be dead. Dead squid, awesome.

If you read the description and comments on that video, the squid IS dead. The movement is caused by the salt in the soy sauce, which is why it doesn't move at all until it's poured on. Not that I would eat it; that goes well beyond my comfort level regardless of whether it's alive or dead.

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
1) Stinky Tofu - couldn't eat it. The smell alone is like someone has taken a wet dump in the toilet and found they couldn't flush it for a day. I told Wasabi is she ate she would sleep on the couch and it is the reason Taiwan isn't in the UN as the food is clearly a biological weapon of mass destruction.
2) Durian - imagine a football with spikes falling out of a tree twice the height of a coconut tree near your feet. If Newton had been in Indonesia his contribution to science would have been cut short as he entered a vegetative state via fruit. Not only is it lethal in form, it is pungent to and if eaten and combined with alcohol can ferment in ones stomach and kill you. What does it smell like? Well one of the engineers at the minesite who was a war vet discribed it like the bodies on a battlefield. Personally I thought it was more like rotten onions. It tasted like rotten baby onion and was a thick yellow pudding with the consistency of snot.
3) Live fish sashimi. Side of the fish was cut out, prepared as sashimi and placed back on the live fish. I've never been as angry at dinner nor drank as much alcohol afterwards. I should have speared the fish with the chopsticks through its bright innocent eyes ending the tragedy. Different country, different rules. Still sick though.
4) Kimchi - its a bit like curries - quite a few varieties and each home has its version. Love it and will finish off the side dish of it before my bimbab arrives :)
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Drink:
Freaking cheap German Beer called Oettinger, b/c it gives me a headache immediately. When i studied in the US: Budweiser…Jesus….Sorry 2 all US- guys, i know some of you love it, yet my Bavarian taste buds (hehe) are not used to this blend of a big nothingness and bubbles.
Food:
Pizza with vinegar and loooots of salt in Liverpool. Deep fried Toast with tons of cheese and i guess lard sausage in Prague….called Hell Toast. Well, gave hell to me as far as i can tell.

Oddly enough some people really love these Durians, the queen of fruits they call it. They smell so bad that some airlines banned them. I tried it at the local toko and I have no idea why anyone would eat it, but it gets sold a lot.

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
My mother bought this 'cheese bread'(Cheese surrounded by foam paste) for me last year. She was quite intrigued(and still is) by chemicals they put in our food, so she had bought it from this obscure store. The first bite wasn't too bad, because it was mostly just dough. However, the next bite was full on the cheese, which proved to be this really sour goats cheese. I can't describe how bad it was. That filth went straight into the trash bin.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Goat-cheese is delicious imho. Not everybody likes it, it has a really strong taste. I wrap it up in bacon first, and than bake the bundle. When put on a nice piece of white bread with a little bit of honey and some roasted nuts you have the best sandwich in the universe and surroundings.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
I have to admit, that does sound tasty, Fragony.
Cranberry, Brie and Bacon Paninis are definitely delicious too.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Worst thing I ate is a toss up between Country Fried Steak in Sioux City or some extremely sugary waffles in Dubuque.
Worst thing I drank is Lite beers like miller bud etc in Iowa City.

Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Worst thing I ever drank: milk in Europe. I don't know what they do to their milk, but it does not taste like milk. I grew up drinking raw milk my family would purchase from some Amish, and when the Amish moved away had to start drinking store milk. It tasted very different, but still tasted like milk. Milk sold in Europe tastes vile beyond belief.
Worst thing I ever ate: mushrooms. Eating mushrooms violates my beliefs, so I always avoid them. I did however one accidently eat a slice of pizza containing them and nearly threw up.

You probably had pasturised milk, that stuff is horrible if you are used to fresh milk, pasturisied milk has been heated up to kill bactirae. Fresh milk is what everybody buys here in the Neds, but you won't find it in France or Spain unless you buy your milk at a local farmer. Yeah, it sucks
Mushsrooms are delicious by the way, they taste like a good steak if you use good butter. I always wrap a steak up in tinfoil after baking it, and use the juices to bake the mushrooms. It's delicious, your faith is cruel.

It was a total waste of mince never mind steak

basically they take all the cream out of the milk because its too valuable to be wasted on cornflakes and tea.
Shop milk especially in places like America or Europe where the dairy industry is so big will always taste less creamy.
Also you might be used to drinking milk from housed cattle rather than more natural pasture based milk.
-
Re: Worst things you have ever drank/ate?
Depends if it was full-cream, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk. Then there is powdered, Soya and other versions.
As it sounds like you drank straight from the cow, then there would most likely be some differences as it is usually pasturised, but it would still be 'milk'.

On one hand, I wish he had been in the path of those guts. That would have looked hilarious: ragdoll physics.
On the other hand, he would likely have been killed by the force of it, so...
Compromise: kick-ass backflip to avoid killer gut-storm.

Two times the absolute truth. Lambs head is great. Lutefish isn't my thing either, there is nothing wrong with the taste really, but it has no texture or bite to it.
