On a side note, the biggest complaint about the Backroom I have received from newer/irregulars is that it is considered too right-wing/racist and this apparently stops people feeling welcome and prefer to avoid the place, with an apparent hostile atmosphere towards non-regulars. The problem here, is that I personally don't want to censor peoples opinion and in fact, encourage opinions to be challenged as long as it doesn't cross certain lines. This has been a disagreement with my moderation as I haven't locked down certain posts and threads.

As for newcomers and lurkers feeling uncomfortable, well, I don't see what we could do besides outright banning certain members. Part of the reason I sometimes engage in discussion here is that I do not want outsiders to think that certain (seemingly) extreme views appear here unopposed. I have realized though that it has become almost futile by now and people still stay away thinking that this is a racist cesspool.
