Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
As many of you may well know, battles for bridges can be quite the sight. This day was no excpetion. I believe pictures can better explain the spectacle, so without further yada yada...
(all pictures are thumbails. click to enlarge image.)
Before...

After...

http://img158.exs.cx/img158/7559/hol...gain7fs.th.jpg
And so it was that 3,741 Gauls were slain and slayed 1,463 brave Macedonians during this madness. About another 1/6 of the fallen army lie dead in the waters below, not visible in the pictures. Many men from both sides survived to fight another day, one of which was not Captain Dumnorix, who led the massive assault. In fact, he never even made it to the bridge...

The Gauls launch full-scale assaults yearly to take the bridge back. The Macedonian forces have been whittled down considerabely the last few years, and with reinforcements finding it difficult to keep up with the losses, the future is uncertain. This may go down in history as the bloodiest battle site of all time, taken the cumulative damages.

Great pics.
Bridge battles are really bloody. But great when you have good phalanges.
Were you playing on huge?
ps. Is your sig from J.Krishnamurti?

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Nice pictures. Always fun to fight a bloody battle. Makes the game more fun. Usually 30% of the enemy army is killed by running into the water and drown.

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
looks great but a question since i'm an defensive and specialy bridge fights expert how did you defended and then wich way did you employed your men i know lots of strategies but most are for sword types but with cav in can go good all the time
my bloodiest fight was when i was defending mediolanum
have no pics cause dont know how to make screenshots ~
2300 gauls vs 6500 romans (julii and brutii) 900 gauls send to heaven and 4800 romans to hades
it might sound easy but suddenly had an huge gap in my walls and didnt even sapped it also didnt said that before the siege that my wall was damaged its called the stockade mistery
and i had mainly (10) foresters and 5 chosens 2 generals
a governer and the king both died in this black page of gallic history
the king just retired of 15 succesfull bridge battles vs julii and brutii at age of 50 all my chosen gone and if it wasnt for my brave foresters i would lost my fresh recaptured city (lost it before to rebels at the start of the game so i could focus on spain)

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
To take screenshot you just press print screen, that should work, if not try Ctrl+Print screen.
The best way to defend bridges is to line the men up in \_/ and |_| this formation around the brigde. This works best with phalanx units but if you have swordmen it's also good to use those formations but it's best to put the men on the middle of the bridge but that will cost you alot of men.

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Man that is a nice battle, but I must say I had one five times worser than that just yesterday in multiplayer.
I had 4,840 men exaclty, was charged by a full calvery army, just like Lord of the Rings at Minas Tirith if you've sceen those movies. They penetrated my first 8 or so lines, my guys fought hard & long. Man their calvery looked just like Theodens in LOTR.
In the end, we lost, but I had annihalted the horse army, and fought to the death vs. the Senate army. Man the field was the biggest that I had ever sceen, dont know why I didnt screen shot.
When the Senate guy saw what was left of my guys standing in the ruins of his allies army, ready for the fight vs. his soliders, he typed "Man... that.. is a big field..." He was awed by the massive casulities on the field!
My figures, 2,160 Calvery from the Germanic player, around 864 from the Senate pitched in as well, & over 4,000 of my men were dead after the big battle, before the second one to take on the Senate ground troops, which took place over the death field of the first battle, so in the end, he had less than 200 men left alive, and ours were gone, so around in the main engagement zone, around 9,000+ soliders lie dead... It was so many dead, that my screen was lagging almost to frames when I viewed it. Very sad indeed.

His sig is from a Tool song called 'Reflection' I believe.

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Eww.....the horde....as someone once said in the MTW forums, the Horde contributed to civilisation as Hitler contributed to Ethnic equality. They are a horrible lot...

duh thats what i meant but it works better with elite archers and elite cavalry

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Order your men across and stop them right at the mouth of the bridge is great so that first rank or two is on the bridge is very secure for guarding.
Used to do that with halbs defending Kiev from the horde.
I love those epic mongol battles.
I also once enabled cannon towers without gunpowder and built Khazar straight to fortress with siege cannon towers and garrisoned it with pumped huscarles.
The horde lost 16k in assaulting and the carpet of bodies nicely outlined my towers' range.

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Ziu, yes I was playing on huge. I had a full stack army, and they had a little over half stack army, then another half stack army came as reinforcements. Any you know how Gallic units consist of over 200 warriors, so I was outnumbered somewhere around 3:1. More for me to kill. ~:)
Ended up slaughtering them with around a 4:1 kill ratio. The cavalry didn't even move a muscle, heh heh. Damn phalanx.
Casmin got it, the sig is from "Reflection" by Tool.
Emperor Umeu 1, I put three units of Royal Pikemen right at the mouth of the bridge, like so \_/ as hundurrin said. And I put the rest of my phalanx units in a sort of encircling formation around the 3 main units for total domination. One of my original up front phalanx units went down to one fighting man, and another down to 4. I took them back, replaced with a fresh unit from behind. And I had 2 units of archers on either side of the bridge for long range damage. Although they had a few units of the dreaded Forester Warband on their side of the riverbank. I actually took more casualties from them then at the main battlesight.

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Last time i checked there is no blood in this game ;]. Brings back memories of bridge battles in MTW, having a few hundred guys, and a thousand soldiers on the other side, and somehow emmerge victiorious.

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Ey. Don't sass me. ~;) lol.
Come Together is my favorite song by any group of bugs.

I got the same "LOTR" exprience on Saturday Multiplayer too, only this time the bugger took all Cataphracts using Armenians(spelling...).
Wipe out all my legionaire in a single charge the bugger did, it really felt like a low blow and frustrated the hell out of me, lucky he was crushed by by my allies waiting cavalry after exhausting all his troops in destroying my legionaires, I still have my general and 4 archers sticking around.
Then there were a couple of retards who even tried an all onagers and eles on me and I was lucky on both counts, having brought the right troops for the right job at both game time. But I should have quite before the battle even begin to discourage this players for playing in such a maner.
I wonder why people just can't play the game decently. :furious3:

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Yea, but the variety makes it fun. And you still won!

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
Unless agree upon the type of game you are going to play, like what most of the host did, they put the title of the type of games they desires. I don't really enjoy such games, especially when the bloody oponent is some obnoxious and rude kids who just bent on annoying his/her oponnent.

yes that is the main bridge strategy and the best this way your losses are minimum and the others have an huge amount of casualties

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
\_/ is a good way to defend a bride, just be sure there are no reinforcements coming up behind you. It happened to me ~D I was focused on the bridge and didn't notice another army, much larger than the one attacking the bridge, coming up behind me. The next thing I notice is the clip where I see my general get slaughtered and my units surrounded.
One of the bloodiest yet most fun battle I've lost.

Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
It was. An full army of elite units slaughtered by mistake ~D Well it was fun though. I think it is the only battle I've lost since I bought the game, beside naval battles.
-
Re: Bloodiest battle ever. (for me... till now...)
yes naval battles can really mess up your goal of having lost no single battle
and for me in normal battles with the pre marian julii i would go for this

Heh heh. Sounds fun.
*dreams of the day when naval battles are realtime 3d battles as well...*
