Registered, but Can't Post?
I've received PM's from new registerees about problems they have in posting.
Most often, the problem is that they have not yet fully activated their accounts by clicking the link in our confirmation email.
If that describes YOUR situation, do this:
1) Go to the email account you used to register with us, and look for an email with the subject:
"Action Required to Activate Guild Membership"
2) Check not only your inbox, but also any folders called: Bulk, Junk, Spam, Trash, etc. Web-based email accounts like Hotmail, Lycos, Yahoo often send our emails to those folders.
3) Click the link inside that email; that will confirm your email and activate your membership. Then you can post.
If all of that fails, email me at jim@jimcee.com (put "TW" in the subject, so I don't mistake you for spam), and we'll sort things out that way.
Cheers. And welcome to the .Org! ~

Welcome to the Org, Avanti. I don't think you are experiencing an error: junior members cannot post in most forums except the guides and the Entrance Hall. This is to let them become used to the atmosphere here and to keep spammers, flamers, trolls and other internet-nuissances out. The system is a bit restrictive but if you post a few times in a friendly and helpfull manner, you will be a full member soon enough.
For more information, see the Guild FAQ.

Hi. Welcome to the forum. ~
If you look under your screen name, you will notice it says Junior Member. Right now you can just post in the New Member forums. You have to wait until one of the admins makes you a member. As you can see, I'm still waiting, too. ~:handball: ~D

Honestly, the faq says that you have to be around for some weeks and show the mods that you fit in here. The quantity of posts is one of the least important things in this.

Unles it relates to politics or is forbidden by the forum rules you can ask anything here. Often an old member will come by and answer questions of new patrons. If it really doesn't belong here, a moderator will move it (and any related post you may afterwards type) to the appropriate forum.

Hiya Upxl:
Why not just post it here? Put an identifier on it-- RTW, or MTW, or STW so folks will know what it pertains to-- and then shoot a new thread out. People are very responsive here, even in the new forums. Also, I think interaction in here will make it easier for people to make a decisions on whether to give you the keys to the forum or not. ~;)

Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Hello! I recently registered so I could make some comments on the mod I've using (medmod). However, it doesn't seem I'm allowed to post replies in any topic in the MTW Modification section. I've checked around to see if I'm missing something, but don't see what my problem is. Anyone have a possible solution?
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
It is because you are a junor member yet. Post your question in this forum and someone will help you out.

Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Oh dear I shouldn't make my first posts be quite so late at night, because they'll all turn out as dumb as that one. Didn't read the FAQ quite well enough, thanks.
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
OK, so I can post here and I'll keep participating in this Hall until I get upgraded. Couldn't be more fair, I'd rather keep out flamers and show that I belong. Thanks guys.

Three pages? How long did that take? If you are not active (that is: don't load new pages) for a period of 15 minutes or so the forum automaticaly logs you out. Perhaps that is what happened?

Hi there,
I still can't post in most threads and I did follow every single link in the activation email.
Anyway, I just wanted to let the community know that in order to solve the recurrent CTDs caused by Nvidia drivers you should install the 5.3.0.3 version (that can be found here: http://www.pny.com).
Can anyone post this in this thread?

Welcome to the Org, elbasto.
I have posted your message in the thread you linked to. The problems you are experiencing are because you are a junior member. Junior members can post only in a few forums and cannot edit. The system is a bit restrictive, but it keeps out spammers, trolls, flamers and assorted nuisances of the internet. If you post a few times in a friendly and helpful manner you will be a full member soon enough.
You can find more information in the Guild FAQ.

Ouch! I know that can hurt. How do manage to play TW like that?
When writing long post I always take care that I press the preview button every three paragraphs or so. This loads a new page so the forum knows you are still active (as it cannot see you typing). You have to do it every five minutes or so, I don't know exactly how long it takes for the computer to log you out but I think it is around 15 minutes.
-

Much thanks again Ludens for the info.

Welcome Turk, did you get to the sticky thread for introducing yourself? It's called HAIL New Members (Introduction). It's a really good place to see who is around and new.~:)

Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Okay, so now that I know how the Guild works for newcomers, thought I'd post my first message. I originally wanted to post a question regarding missile units on one of the other forums, but I guess I'll have to wait a little longer before I can do that. :san_huh:
Anyway, I’m still somewhat new to MTW. Although I had been playing around with the tutorials and battle campaigns on and off over a period of several months, I didn’t sit down and play an actual game until just last month (I guess I just didn't have time until now). Great stuff, though. I actually like it more than CIV.
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Hi Alexios :san_cheesy: . I hope you find an answer to your question in one of the forums. There is always the Guides to read which really helped me to get started.
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Hi Bogeys.
Yes, the guides were the first thing I read when I first came here to the Guild. Great information in there, especially from frogbeastegg. Anyway, after reading all the guides, playing all the tutorials and battle examples (and playing a couple of actual campaigns), I still haven't figured out how to get my missile units to fire ONLY on my command. I always put them on <Hold> position and remove them from <Fire at Will>, but the buggers keep firing anyway. Nothing more frustating then watching your archers waste away their arrows on the passing peasant unit or two, while the enemy has heavy cavs prancing just out of range! :san_angry: The only way I know how to keep them from firing is to give them the order to change position (thus, getting them preoccupied in doing another activity). There's gotta be a simpler way of doing this. Would be nice to just have a toggle switch that you could turn them "on" or "off."
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Hello Alexios, Welcome to the Org.
Hold position won't stop your archers from firing. Try pressing [A] (fire-at-will toggle) and then [BACKSPACE] (halt-command).
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
I'm glad you asked this question. After reading it I suddenly knew I didn't know how to keep them from firing away. Good question. Good answer too, thanks Luden.
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Hey, Ludens - Works great!! Thanks for the tip!!
Now, if I could only remember to tell them to start firing again :san_laugh:

In the first place: welcome to the Org. I can understand your frustration, but I think you misunderstand the system. It is not a test of skill (or age), just an introductory period so the moderators can get to know you. This is somewhat restrictive, but helps to keep out trolls.
Since you are an experienced R:TW player, you could help out the newbie's that post here. If you want to add to discussions in other forums, you can post a topic here and a moderator will move it to the indicated thread. Also, several other forums are accessible to new members as well (see for more information the Guild FAQ). All that is required for full membership is posting here several times in a friendly and helpfull manner and a bit of patience.
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Thanks for the intro Ludens. Reading the FAQ does indeed state that I can post in other forums however its not consistent with the FAQ. It seems the only other RTW forum I can post is "Hosted mods". Perhaps something is wrong or perhaps the FAQ needs updating.
My interests are pretty specific and mostly limited to the Colosseum forum but I will take into consideration your suggestions.

If the FAQ is indeed incorrect, please inform Therother. You should be able to post in the guide and modding forums, though you can't start new threads in all of them.

First of, welcome to the .Org Mattisius Carsonius ~ .
Junior members are limited to posting in the Entrance Hall and some of the modification forums. This is a bit restrictive, but it allows the moderators to filter out trolls, spammers, flammers and other nuissances of the internet. All that is required to be promoted and get access to the other forums is a bit of patience and posting a few a friendly and helpful messages in the Entrance Hall.

Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Hi, I agree it can be annoying when I see a subject that I wish to reply too and find I cannot reply there. Therefore I dont tend to write anywhere else so I seem to be stuck in a junior member position for not posting enough.

Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Greetings ForVictory, welcome to the Org~
I see you appreciate 'the direct approach'. Good. Here it is:
We have a two-step procedure to full membership, after which you can post forum-wide. This to cut down on spammers, baiters, trolls and other less-than-productive registerees, which I'm sure you have encountered on other game sites.
During the short time that you are a Junior Member, look for opportunities to make a positive contribution. You can start new topics in:
-Entrance Hall (where you are now)
-Scriptorium (Rome:TotalWar mods area)https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=77, and
-Apothecary (Tech help)https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=15
You can reply to already-existing topics in the above forums too, plus:
-Guides forum: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=78, and
-Hosted Mods: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=74
We've studied our new registerees habits, and found that the vast majority seek info on: Guides, Mods & Tech Help, so we've kept those areas open to all, with additional content available after we get to know you a bit.
So...to repeat: welcome to the Org ~ We're glad you've found and joined us. We're sorry for the inconvenience of your somewhat limited current access, but we look forward with eagerness to any contribution you might have to our community.
-

Promotion is not dependend on post-count. The most important thing is contribution: if you post here a few times in a friendly and helpful manner you will be promoted soon enough. Spamming to increase your post count will, at best, delay promotion. The editing function is unlocked when you are promoted.

I am afraid KurkiKhan was at least partially wrong, as there are many forums where you can post but not start new topics. For more information on what you can post in which forum, read the Guild FAQ.

Double-checking, you (and Ludens) are right...I was wrong. In the R:TW Mods forums, you CAN post new topics in: Modding Questions, and Forge, but NOT in Scriptorium.
I regret the error.

I still cant post in the other forums yet...cant wait till i get promoted...need to know something about mercenaries....do they regenerate per faction, and if they do at what rate?
-
Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Which version MTW or RTW?
Regenerate as a unit or at the places of hire?
They cannot be regenerated as a unit in either game like loyal units can by going to retraining zones.
In MTW if you have an inn and minimal law type structures (castles) then you get more Mercs, IMDHO if you buy more, more will be attracted to that province... mind you it has been ages since I played MTW.

Indeed. M:TW Mercenaries like undeveloped provinces (that is, no advanced castles or governement buildings) near warzones, and where mercenaries have been hired before.
In the unit files, certain units are marked as "possible mercenaries", and I think these will be generated as mercs near the places where they can be recruited. Also your disbanded units will enter the merc pool. Also, merc units seem to move about, never staying long at the same inn.
R:TW mercs are less mobile. R:TW provinces are grouped into regions and each region has it's own mercenary pool. A mercenary pool is allocated certain units and these units will generate there until a maximum has been reached (generation speed and maximum are different for each unit and region). There is nothing you can do to influence this.

Actually, it can be found in the FAQ. Whether you can make new threads in the M2:TW forum depends on your membership level. Junior members cannot, they have to be promoted to full member first. Promotion to member is based on participation and interaction with other patrons. Post count is not important, what is important is that you regularly post in a friendly, helpfull manner and you will be promoted in a couple of weeks.
Welcome to the Org, ~ .

Re: Registered, but Can't Post?
Can't post yet to reply, but I just wanted to say that the CTD for campaign games. Having come back to the game I could play battles etc just could not start a campaign. I did not have to roll back to an old driver which would be unreasonable for other computer uses. I have the latest Nvidia driver. What I did was change the antiliasing setting on the card from 0 to 2. GE Force FX 5500. Fixed the issue The game runs great including saved games. No more CTD. Just a suggestion for anyone trying to get back into the game after an absence and may have made a hardware change.
