This is hard but i would choose between:
Zeco
Eusebio
Pele
Platini
Bobby Moore
And of course George Best
There are probably a few more as well besides but i can't choose one ~D
Only one choice really,
John Charles
....Orda
Martin O'Connor, and if you don't know him, you don't know anything.......lol.
I agree with BKB's choices, but I'd add Beckenbauer and maradonna to that list.
I agree with you DD, even about Martin O'Connor! ~D
Johan Cruyff, Maradona, Pele. The three most powerful players this world has yet seen.
I go for - this is difficult - I don't think I can choose.
It depends how you're talking. Keepers? Defenders? Midfielders? Strikers/Forwards? (They all do different jobs)
I'll think about a Dream Team and post it here. ~D
Johan Cruyff, Maradona, Pele
pelé.. his name is the best too.
edit - some reasons:
most hatricks ever (92)
most goals scored internationally (97)
second most goals scored (1281 in 1363 matches)
voted IOC athele of the 20th century
I have to disagree on Johann Cruyff being one of the greatest players ever. Not even close in my books.. He was good, really good, but not great. That's just my opinion, ~D
I asked my brother and he was choosing between Pele and Maradona and he chose Pele. I think I agree but I'm still not sure.
George Best
Marco Van Basten
Pele
Maradona
EDIT: not in order ~;)
heres a question, why is this called "Best soccer player ever" instead of "Best Football player ever"?
if i remember correctly only the usa officially calls it soccer still.
thanks,
dizzy
this is tough, really tough, pele would probably be the best ever, in my short life the best ive seen for a decent amount of time would be Eric Cantona *flicks collar up*
well people could confuse football with soccer , as you said only the Americans call it soccer, so if it were called football maybe the Americans would confuse it with american football.Quote:

Funny we get to name a sport were not even that good at and didnt originate here and we get to name our ownsport football. Americas power is overwhelming ~D You guys have been hijacked.
Not really, only you call it that. Plus "soccer" doesn't eralyl mean anything. It's a made up word in order for americans to make a distinction. It's quite sad really.
You guys like very "gladiatorial" games that you wear lots of pading or just pure stupidity(WWF comes to mind). Try watching E.Football, you'll find it much more enthrwalling.
i agree with BPQuote:

I said we should use soccer because I have the impression that many people that visit this forum are from the US. So it clears up confusion. ~;)Quote:

I think if i was going to put keepers i would have the following:
Peter Schimcheal(sp)
Gordern Banks(the save against Brazil in'70 was one of the best ever)
Dino Zoff
Oh and for goal scoring Paolo Rossi
Soccer? What is this soccer you talk about?
Law as in Denis Law?Quote:

I'm surprised to see you have left out Maradona? ~
Others you have overlooked: Ray Clemence, Paulo Maldini, Stanley Matthews, Jairzinho, Kevin Keegan, Jimmy Greaves, Geoff Hurst, Paul Gascoigne, Billy Wright, Garrincha, Bobby Charlton, Franz Beckenbauer, Roberto Baggio, John Barnes, Jurgen Klinsmann, Alan Shearer, Peter Shilton, Graeme Souness, Kenny Dalglish... ~D
Players in bold played for Liverpool at some point during their careers.
I would nominate John Barnes as one of the greatest players to ever play the beautiful game!

well i call it football now, i really think about it, why do the americans call a game football where your foot rarely touches the ball.
thanks,
dizzy
i think because the kick the penalties?????? i don't know pretty weird people those americans. some are crazy too just like the english and the dutch because the vote for bush, blair and balkenende. THE 3 STUPID B's
Kool Thread!
My pick for all time best:
- Pele
- Maradona
- Romario
At tha moment:
- Zinedine Zizou
- Ronaldo (oh! hes ma favorite! speedy gonzaa!)
- Luis Figo
The best players at the moment are:
1. Thierry Henry
2. Ronaldinho
3. Steven Gerrard
4. Zinedine Zidane
IMO ~ ~
Arjan Robben is da man at the moment... If he isn't injured.
Can't say I'm a huge fan of Arjen Robben but he has brought something new to Chelsea and they play worse without him.
~:) Agrees with Ellesthyan!!!Quote:

Seriously, Id have to go Pele (Legend) , Marco van Basten (With Gullit and Reikaard {sp?} they were the most formidable forward line in the world), Lothar Mattheus (150 Caps is some achivement!) Paulo Maldini, Jurgen Klinsmann, Mattheus Sammer, Hiristo Stoichkov, Gary Lineker, Gordon Banks, the Charltons, Dixie Dean, Bobby Moore, Stanley Matthews, Eusebeo, Zico, Romario, Socraties, just to name a few true greats. There are so many its difficult to choose who is the best ever.....
I still think Roy Makaay ( Bayern Munich ) is a great soccer player.
every ball he touches results in a goal ~D
to bad he hasn't played in a while ( hamstring or achilles (sp) injury )
Not if your a Chelsea Fan!!! ~DQuote:

I like chelsea, and most of the players for that matter... I'm just not really a Mourinho ( sp) fan, he always wants his head on the front page of every newspaper and will do everything to do so..
I'd rather Mourinho was on the front page taking flack than the players. Takes a lot of the pressure away from them. I think is partially intentional the way he acts.
Just look at Chelsea, they should be the side with the most pressure on them with the amount of cash they have splashed and yet they play as a solid unit that has taken the premiership in their stride.
I can see how Mourinho rubs people up the wrong way but there is no arguing his ability as a coach, although i am somewhat bias.....
well you are right, he is a good coach ( FC Porto now Chelsea ) but still I think he sometimes actes a little to arrogant for my liking, I mean he was all over the news because he acused Rijkaard ( Barcalona ) for ''bribing'' the referee, who then went out of the business because people threatend to kill him..Quote:

And as I said before I do respect what he did for the teams he coached, but I do still thing he should improve his attitude a little
I'll post a link that shows that he was infact right that Rijkaard tried to influence Frisk.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ea/4420769.stm
He is not stupid to make this stuff up, I Belive it was turned into a bit of a Witch hunt by the UK media and various individuals at Uefa aginst Chelsea and particulary Moriniho, but as i mentioned before, all this took all the heat of the Chelsea players as people seem to have forgotten that we actually lost that match!
Im not going to hide it, Chelsea are Arrogant, but while they continue to produce the goods on the pitch, there is not a lot people can do about it!
What i will condem is the idiots who give Chelsea and football in general a bad name by sending death threats to an offical who at the end of the day is only Human and is going to make mistakes. I hope in due time Mr Frisk reconsiders his retirement as I have always rated him as a referee.
well I read the article , and he indeed talked to him, but to believe that he actually ''bribed '' him ? wel we will probably never now, Rijkaard will certainley not admit it.Quote:

and yes it had been turned into a witch hunt, by every news paper around the world.
PS.. I actually did forget that Chelsea lost that match... ~;)
I dont think Chelsea ever clamed frisk was bribed, just 'Influenced' by Rijkaard.
I have to say(and i do hate Chelsea) they played excellent the other night and lampard's strike was incredible. The cheating ballack at the end made my stomach churn with that dive. I hope Chelsea smash them all over the place in Germany. As long as you keep Kezman on the bench and drop droghba to ball boy you'll be alright.
Those fellas couldn't hit a cows arse with a barn door ~D
Draogba has weighed in with a fair few goals but id like to see Shevchenko in a blue shirt, or even Owen, I think he would fit in with Chelsea's style of play.
getting Shevchenko won't be easy, what is that guy worth anyway ?
not that Chelsea can't offord it though, with the helping hand of a biljonair.
can't blame Abrahmovic though, if I had that kind of money, I would also finance a major team. ~:handball:
Also, shevchenko is not thelolQuote:
Best soccer player ever
By the time his playing days are over he will be. Its unfortunate on his part he doesnt play for someone like italy or brazil as he doesnt get the international recognition he deserves playing for the Ukraine but he is one of the best all round forwards of this generation of footballers.
Not in my opinion ~D ~:cool:Quote:

Well I would like to say that I'm the best back defender in the world, sadly I don't think I could honestly claim that title. Over all I would say Pele, the changes he made with his explosive, flashy moves changed the whole offensive scene of the game.
I have one question for the people call it "Soccer" why????
ITS FOOTBALL -
And thats final in my views
Soccer is the US term because we already have one type of football here. Imagine how confusing it would be to say lets go to the football game and not know which one they were talking about.
fair enough but when i just think "soccer" i think americans
Is american football like what we call rugby except its routher and tougher?
Basily yes it is Its Rugby cross by football
Rugby is pretty rough and tough as my newly torn thigh muscle will testify to. we didnt even win!!
Rugby is rough as american football
ColdKnight if you going to watch american football you could say that
and if going to see football you could say football
American Football is NFL lol!! I quite like watching it and i expect playing it would be a laugh too..Quote:

Yup american football players are a bunch of really big men scared to take a hit.
So they wear pads to protect themselves. Then they whine about soccer players being weak. When the soccer team averages more injuries and dishes out more injuries a year than the football team at my school. American football is actually less rough than rugby. And trust me here in American its not your graceful english soccer. Soccer is a bloody, vengful, all out war here. We aim to kill each other out there. Add that with teen-age aggression and vengence, and it takes real men to play in the Highschool leagues.
Well i played in a high school league with mates in lunch times and in football team .Lunch time football as you never really happens in Uk. But now am at college i dont play football as much now
I'm sorry if this has already been covered, but it has to be said; we did NOT "invent" the word soccer. The British did to make a distinction between Rugby Football and Football. The fact that everybody assumes Americans made it up assumes me to no end.Quote:

unfortuanately he will not be in the 2006 germany wc. I am very very disappointed that he soon will be retiring from his soccer profession. He definitely is one of the best and will be remembered as one of the best.
well he was very very good, but he isn't as good as he was.Quote:

Who remembers that volley against Man U in the Champions League. Brilliant. ~D ~D
Well I still remember him during the world cup, the finals to be exact , in which he scored 2 goals .
Single handedly leading France to win the World cup ( versus Brazil )
Yep, I remember that.. A good day for French football.
The French international team is good but the french leagues aren't as popular as La Liga or the premiership.. Hmm?
But I remembered tha volley he scored with his left leg against Bayern Leverkusen during tha Champions League final!! What a goal, superb goal...
Speaking about him, I think he had achieved his football career more than enough, his task is totally completed. He's one of those good player to achieved that I might say.
Definitely. ~:cheers:Quote:

Someday they will, or maybe in the distant future ( when PSV wins the CL )
I can't wait
~D
I hope Dutch and French football gets a boost but I also like Italian football.
Here in the UK, you hear next to nothing about Ligue de Professional (is that the title? sorry if I'm wrong I mean the French league) and Dutch (sorry I don't even know the correct title) leagues, a bit about Serie A, quite a lot about La Liga and loads (obviously) about the Premiership.
the list should be like this:Quote:
